thanks for the random shoutout during the Chants of Senaar segment! I am a huge linguistics nerd and Chants of Senaar was everything I could ask for as a linguistics based puzzled game. The world building was super mysterious and I just couldn't put it down until it was finished. It was really refreshing!
What a fantastic game! Just played through it in two days. Totally immersed. My biggest linguistic achievement is doing the cryptic crossword regularly, but I was hooked on the feeling of exploring new languages, like the words are objects in a point-and-click adventure. And the ending even managed to totally surprise me. Great game!
Clement, I just want to congratulate you on your never-ending dedication to the channel. I don't comment much anymore, opting to read others comments more now that you have such a large audience, but I still greatly appreciate your insights and exposure you provide to such a wide array of games. Over the years you've become one of the pillars of the indie creator scene, success well-earned. I hope you're enjoying being a dad and that everyone in the family is happy and healthy. All the very best in 2024!
This year was absolutely crazy. You could easily triple this list and still leave many great games out. This is why I find it so baffling when I read someone saying that no good games are being released anymore, when the truth is that the problem is them, and that's fine, gaming fatigue is a common occurrence but the issue is that they don't realize that.
❤ You are my favorite game reviewer by far ❤ Genuine, honest, no buzzwords or nonsense So many other game review or "Best Games of 20XX" videos are either done by AI voice overs or... may as well be, because they just read words like 'iconic' off the script they were paid to read. ❤️ Anyway: Thank you for being you, and for making these. It helps me stay informed in my industry ❤
Chants of Sennaar is actually so good. I didn’t really know what to expect, but the depth is amazing. I was enthralled until the very end, which was also very surprising and clever. It feels like point-and-click but the objects are words that you don’t know yet. So inspired. Must play for anyone with even the slightest interest in wordplay and adventure games!
Just learned about Gravity Circuit last week and was able to grab it on sale. I was super interested in Laika and it was good, but the touchy controls really made it an exercise in frustration. I've never played a game before that seemed so obviously designed with a keyboard and mouse in mind.
As a horror-adventure fan, I can confirm Stasis: Bone Totem is great for the fans of the genre, wholly recommended. For some reason Turbo Overkill slipped into my 'backlog'; I need to rectify that ASAP. For both it and Ultrakill I was waiting for the full release. Oh dear, I need to figure out how to make my laptop double as a gaming rig one of these days.
Bread & Fred - Apart from the charming and cute graphics of the Penguin duo, it reminds me of some scenes in the old comedy "See No Evil, Hear No Evil" with Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor - with both characters handcuffed to each other! Very comedy coop game! Great choice.
That's a fun analogy, haven't thought of that but yeah, I can see that. I wonder of I'll hear Wilder's and Pryor's voices in my head for Bread and Fred next time I play 😅
I have played and fully finished Robotquest, playing the EA since one of the earliest builds. Besides having changed its core mechanics three times during development, I must say that the end-product is one of the best Roguelike Shooters out there. Unlike with contemporaries like Gunfire Reborn speed and precision is key here, but not too much to get completely "lost" in even as a casual player. Best of all, though, is the absolute KILLER Soundtrack from Noisecream: The tracks really feel like they belong to the areas they play in and the mixing of the quiet parts when in safe-areas, to then explode with the blaring beats during combat...it's just elevating the whole experience. Puts you in a trance and before you know it you glide through the areas! They got a youtube account, so look them up and take a listen! Listen to "Modify Me" and you'll know what time awaits you in Roboquest! EDIT: Also thanks for reminding me of You will die here tonight, I thought I was getting mad, not finding that "Resident Evil but with Combat in First Person" game I saw a trailer of a while ago!
I'm always afraid opening videos on this channel, because somehow, after watching I'm always compelled to buy a game or two or three or four, heck, one time I almost bought ALL the recommended games during steam sale. Now the steam sale ended, I'm totally afraid... Anyway, always great video!
Can't wait for the "Top 1 THAT ONE GUY GOTY 2023" video about Can of Wormholes 🤓 But yeah great vid as always, crazy the amount of high quality games that released in 2023
so I dont know if Jupiter Corporation is indie or not , Logiart Grimoire is a pricross game on steam and in early access and will be getting more added to it thanks to its successful Kickstarter . this was a really good video lots of good games to check out.
I really liked Chants of Sennar: didn't find it difficult but really enjoyed it nonetheless, plus soundtrack is amazing! I also saw Sun Haven everywhere as I'm a farming sim junkie but the pixel art style really grates on my nerves, looks too busy for me, so had to pass on it.
Trepang2 demo was super fun... right up until Level 2 where it turned into a wave-based shooter. I'm sure there's other stuff and it gets better, but I hateee wave shooters and was pretty dissapointed
I continue to take issue with using "boomer shooter" for a subgenre originating in Doom and its clones, which boomers' kids would have been playing rather than boomers themselves.

@@CoenBijpost glad you could get turned onto it. Its everything I could possible have asked for in a game like this. I am itching for more.
Gravity Circuit #1 for me, as an old school gamer that grew up on Mega Man and Castlevania it feels like a modern evolution of 2D action playformers

Just wanted to say that this is spot on.
Astrea is a super fun deck builder with an amazing soundtrack. Super underrated imo

A lot of AI slop these days

Thanks for featuring Bread & Fred + Turbo Overkill!!
Great list, I just missed Beneath Oresa and Astral Ascent

Stasis Bone Totem must have gone under my radar, but looks incredible, thanks as always for the videos

Super glad to see Wildfrost and Against the Storm make this list!

Uncharted waters 2 is a hidden gem
Thanks for reminding me of 24 Killers and supporting YOMIH
For me the highlights where “a tiny sticker tale” and “in stars and time”.
There’s a 2D Zeldalike named Moonshell Island in development that I always get excited for and let down any time someone mentions Moonstone Island.
Yo this game looks sick. Going to my wishlist for sure!
Very good list, it definitely covers more genres than the previous one.
Turbo Overkill, Lunacid and Roboquest are my jam :}
no one mentioned that sanabi fully came out last year and that game made me cry
The coffin of andy and leyley should be listed in your videos
This is the best top indie games list on the internet
Volcano princes is truly a blessed game, its perfect to clean your soul at 2am

I have been playing Lunacid pretty much religiously as of late. Can't recommend it enough.
Can't wait for the "Top 1 THAT ONE GUY GOTY 2023" video about Can of Wormholes 🤓

oh wow, thank you!
Wheres black skyland?
Personally i wanna shoutout sunkenland idk how much of an indie game it is but imo it will surpass raft. Super fun even in EA
For me the only error in Moonstone Island is the monsters doesnt evolve or fuse
Probably only Against the Storm was the only game on this list that I really enjoyed and some are just slipped away from my radar.
Pretty great of you to post this After the Steam sale lol
OTXO MENTIONED LETS FUCKING GOOOOOO
Not going to lie, the way you describe the games it really sounds like AI written.

its been the case with a bunch of Chinese games like back to the dawn and wandering sword which sell a lot but no one in the west tialk about
Sea of stars ?
It’s number 2 on his top indies of 2023 list. I agree, the naming of this video is quite confusing in isolation though.
TURBO OVERKILL
