    Hi Becca, Chris, Your Vlogs are so entertaining. Loving Becca's floor, and again she explained everything to us as to what she was doing. Was Becca a crafts-person in another life. Maybe she built St Paul's in London? Love watching you both working so well together. Glad you got a new Water Thingy. Noticed the small hint of Dramatic Music (so good is that). Becca's Floor hatch is amazing. I love the way she works it all out, then builds it. Chris, well done gluing the boards down. Loved the way Becca had the Duck whistle, that was so funny, and what a good sport you are. Finally, how nice it was to see the 3rd member of the family make an appearance.Another excellent Vlog. Thank you both so very much. Take Care. (Spoolbox)

    The floor is bloody amazing just love it. Too funny what you did to Chris Beccs, so funny he fell for it. OK our house sold and we have to be out by Monday. We’re taking our caravan to a Showground to camp for a while until we sort Henri’s hand injury. I’ll have to try and find our dongle and get it connected again otherwise I’ll have bugger all internet and I need to watch what’s happening on the Whistling Wombat, god I’d go through withdrawals. Until we get the dongle going I might have to use McDonalds or the Commonwealth Banks internet, could be seen as sus sitting in the bank for about 20/30 minutes looking at my iPad. • @TheNomadicCrobot

      Thanks so much. We have deliberated over the pipes being under the floor and what we have decided is to create access points at where the joins are in the pipe work. This way, if they ever fail - which would most likely be at a join, we can get to them. Let's hope that works out for us!! 🤞😂

    Might want to look at having your solar connected to your calorifier via a relay. This enables the water to be heated using solar energy once you domestics are full. We have it and for most of the summer we have hot water without the need to run the engine🤷‍♂️ It takes around twice as long to heat as using the engine but hey Ho, ITS FREE🎉

    Trivial 'it's quite possibly true but there's no actual evidence 'fact'': posh is actually an acronym, so P.O.S.H. It stood for 'Port Out, Starboard Home' on the P&O steamships from Great Britain to India, where the rich folk would book the cabins on the side of the ship away from the sun, so they were a bit cooler.

    We have a 12 volt heater they come in various wattages ours is variable so depending on the amount of solar you have. We basically get our hot water from solar. Using the engine your using diesel. It’s the wattage not the fact that it’s 12 volt. Check out the Victron battery protect switch and you can set it up on auto depending how much your batteries have in , we’re on lithium which are always around 13.6 to 13.8 volts so we use the switch (£35) as an on off when we require hot water. By the way you can hire a floor sander save buying and it will be more of a commercial sander than the B&Q type which you would then have to sell when finished 👍👍🖐

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for this. It's definitely worth considering. We are planning to be cruising a lot and thus already using the diesel for the engine so the idea was to harness the extra energy we will be creating from moving anyway to heat the water but I really love the idea of a solar input too. It's all a wee bit confusing but im guessing the solar taps into the immersion element of the calorifier rather directly to one of the coils like the engine and gas boiler would too? Thanks so much for sharing this with us, it's really useful 😊 Also great idea about hiring a sander. We will have a look into if there's anywhere nearby that does rentals 😊

    The duck caller brilliant! Is that gap too wide to just have a thicker skirting board? Flooring is brilliant, looks great now but sanding and painting will mean its more hard wearing. I think anything that needs power tools is legit work before you sail as they use so much power and its not everywhere you can pull in and have firm flat ground to use the saw and bench. Bit of painting and what have you while you are cruising is one thing but laying a floor is a bit too demanding while cruising. Brilliant vlog , funny, informative and entertaining. Would a second hand shop take the stuff you don't want like the chest of drawers. Sod tidying up,that you show how you really are, no pretend Instagram life, that's makes you both so relatable.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha! The duck caller was just so much fun. It's still making me laugh now that he didn't cotton on!!! Yeah I wondered about thicker skirting board too so that might be an option. This is exactly what I keep saying to Chris about getting certain jobs that require power tools done whilst we are on the marina as it will just be so much more difficult to try do them on the towpath and then we can save the less intensive stuff for when we are travelling around. I'm glad someone else sees my sense!!!! 😂 Aww thank you so much, we are really glad you enjoyed it! Yeah we are currently working on a bit of a declutter so watch this space! Thanks so much for saying that as that's what's really important to us, to show things organically and naturally rather than trying to romantise everything because let's face it, most of the time life is chaos!! Yep, bad idea.
    I sell and install solid wood floors for a living. Wood and water doesnt mix.
    Sub floor needs to he a RH of 70% before laying, which Id bet my house on you're not going to get on a boat.
    If youre laying it as a floating floor annd not securely fixing it down, you need to leave an expansion gap around the perimeter as the wood will expand.

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing and yes you're right it's always going to be very tricky on a boat because of the fact they are damp places! However, it would seem that many boats have successfully installed solid wood flooring and it's faired well over time so we can only hope this will be true for ours too. We have tried to protect it as best as we can from the damp and also allowed for expansion etc. Can I ask though what 70% RH of the subfloor means? Thanks 😊

    Its late so it could be me nagging, but, instead of making the opening bigger, couldn't you have made the hatch just a little smaller? Doesn't matter. Just a tip, scribe the sideboard and cut a little smaller. Baseboard and done!

    Bless you both!

    • @TheNomadicCrobot
      @TheNomadicCrobot  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha! Nag away I'm always willing to learn! I couldn't have made the hatch smaller though at that point as I'd already cut the subfloor opening for the hatch which lined up with the support beams underneath. It's such a complicated process! I think this is what you're referring to? Otherwise if I'd made it smaller, the sub floor piece would catch on the surrounding floorboards whenever you needed to lift it up. Does that make sense!? I'm not quite sure I know what you mean by scribe the sideboard!? Sorry it doesn't take much to confuse me!!! 😂 Thanks so much for your comments. Yeah on the highway to showersville!! Can't wait 😆

      Scribing means you take a pensil and a peace of wood and follow the line of the wall on your floorboard to get the curve. Then measure youre with ( wideness? ) and follow the curve a little narrow to give yourselve some mercy, the floor can "work " and the baseboard will cover the cab. • @YaaLFH

      @@TheNomadicCrobot Yes, it looks much darker on camera, very noticeable. A different shade too, more pink than yellow (look up "heartwood" and "sapwood" if you're interested where the difference comes from) and heartwood is usually harder to stain, so you might have to use a much darker stain than you think to bring it to the same shade.
      You laid a few other boards that are partially heartwood, so be aware that those will not stain evenly. Swapping those boards for solid lighter ones now might prevent a lot of swearing in the near future 😁
