on GP is why im still alive. 8 years later. stay here for the ones who love you. Even if you have no one today, stay here in spite until you find that. You will. Be better to the people around you and especially yourself. Annie got me cryin five mins in
“On GP” means “On General Principle”. So basically when he says “if it wasn’t for them id make that decision on gp” he says that if it wasn’t for his loved ones he would have offed himself. I personally dont really think it ties into Government plates
that's super interesting ~ I didn't know that, but it makes a lot of sense I still think Government plates makes sense too, but it definitely could be both
it's been almost a full decade since i first heard this song. i think i was always drawn to the hyper aggressive sound of death grips because it resonated with some part of my brain-kind of in a similar way to the fun of looking at urself in a funhouse mirror-but i was never moved much beyond the sound. that was until on gp, the song that got me through some of the hardest lows of my life. it remains one of my all-time favorites
This is *such* a great video. It's always really cool to see when somebody makes an actual analysis of something as experimental and detailed as Death Grips and Ride's lyricism. I also really like the mention of Whatever I Want. I feel like it's probably the second heaviest (In terms of emotional value) DG song after On GP for me. And the relation you give to both in the video really show how special they are as DG songs. It's such a fucking important and amazing band and some people really don't realize that sometimes.
Centuries of damn represent the eternal sadness On GP is the Suicide of Stefan Death Grips 2.0 is death grips after the death of stefan... 11/10 best álbum of 2015 fuck TPAB
@ oh ok! This was a great video. It’s rare to see Death Grips analysis that aren’t reviews. You should definitely look into Jenny Death a bit more, since I feel that’s the album where Death Grips is at their most darkest. Especially since that’s my second favorite Death Grips album.
Whats with the instinct bs? You dont hear the irony behind Rides lyrics? "Have a sad cum." "Fuck me, just dont touch me." Its not instinct, its patterns of behaviour that opne cant excape, either out of weakness, peer pressure, trauma. When he refered to instinct in that interview, he was more so talking about live performances. When you re on stage, there is no time to think, gotta do, go on instinct. Id have to be an idiot to think, Death grips just go on instinct, their songs are extremely well structured.
@@neburarieiv there's no need to get mean about it, I simply interpret Death Grips, and specifically their lyrics differently I feel in songs like Get Got the music and the character of Ride feels very instinctive - the lyrics have spelling errors in them, he leaves out words, and generally they're full of chaotic imagery music can also come from gut feelings and still be well-structured - Zach Hill did say he believes natural/spiritual forces guide his music - that sounds pretty instinctive to me Ride similarly talks about the paranormal in his lyrics, and he is quite animalistic, like in Spread Eagle Cross the Block or Want it/Need it of course I don't know the full creative process, but their motto seems to be "everything we do is whatever we feel like doing" even outside of the stage - I think interpreting their lyrics as ironic and satirical is also valid though
It’s not the best death grips song. I know I sound like a pretentious ass but the people who think this is their best are usually just casual fans. Say Hey Kid is easily better than this song and that’s not even their best
I appreciate your opinion ^^ as someone who listened to Say Hey Kid a bunch (it's one of my favourite songs too) I just like On GP in a more intense way

only heard gmail and the restraining orders once is a shame. hes the best drummer in the world, seriously.
I think it's a good track, and the drumming is incredible, but it is just way too intense for me at most times
