I think most people think they don't like him because they believe he's too prefect and alien, but it's only when you read his story that you realize how HUMAN HE is
@@beishicheong2232 I disagree. Superman is a noble true hero and has proven as with and without abilities. It's who he is at his core that makes him human, because of two good, true and pure hearted simple human farmers that Loves him and would die for him, he is their son physically human or not he is the son of Johnathan and Martha Kent, Superman may physically be an alien, but he is more human than anyone will acknowledge and that is why his greatest ,best and in my opinion his better ability that sets him apart from the rest of the DC heroes is his ability to INSPIRE.
Yeah, in a holgram. But he gave up for 10 years just because one guy got away with murder. And to top it all off, he expects everyone to follow along with his ideals and punished them for refusing. And by the end, he is just talked out of doing more harm after a scene involving mass murder. No one was likable (except maybe fascist Batman of all people and not by much), everyone was a plot device, and the ending was a letdown and rushed ham-fisted happy go-lucky series of “we learned our lesson, let’s be better for better future sake”events that rivals Steven Universe’s finale of rushed plot convenience for a quick, “happy”, yet unsatisfying ending. Kingdom Come was the story that made me hate Superman and made me see him as nothing more than a being who gives up and only acts to usurp his authority over others when it’s convenient for him. There are way better versions of him done by the writers of this story, Mark Waid and Alex Ross. I think it was the artwork by Ross that tricked people into believing this story was phenomenal- like a movie with a bad story but great eye-catching visuals- but there are times when you realize the art is too much and feels artificial, stiff, and fake. I’ve grown to like Superman over the years, but in my opinion KC doesn’t portray him or the other “heroes” in a way that makes them great characters.
I'm all for tragic heroes like Spider-Man, Daredevil, Batman, and so many more, but Superman using his power to be a superhero for no other reason than "because it's the right thing to do" is such a good change of pace.
*stands and applauds* Yes, just yes! Superman is not a god, nor does he have a "god complex" like Lex does. He represents everything that Lex lacks: Compassion, empathy, justice, etc. He chooses to do the right thing because it's right, and like you said, if he were a normal man, he would STILL choose do the right thing and fight the good fight, even at the cost of his own life. That's who he is at his core. A beautiful video, I love it
I agree, I hate when he's pidgeonholed into being simply the strong guy. He is a dynamic, inspirtational character and shou;d be treated as such. Thank you!
I do as well. That's why the episode "For the Man Who Has Everything" of Justice League Unlimited is one of my faves: Even in his dream state, his idea of the "perfect life" is having a family of his own, a very HUMAN desire, not about his powers and what he can do with them, like Mongul assumes. And that's what makes the ending of the episode so emotional, you see the MAN in him and it hurts when this MAN gets everything he's ever wanted snatched away. You're very welcome! (:
@Timberwolf410 You pretty much conveyed *EVERYTHING* that I feel and would like to say, nigh perfectly. It's my genuine Hope that *_hundreds to thousands_*_ of years hence, Superman _*_*WILL BE_*_ _*_LOVINGLY Remembered..._* ...just we lovingly Remember other *_icons_* such as King Arthur, or Heracles/Hercules....
This reminds me of DC Comics ONE YEAR LATER story after INFINITE CRISIS where Clark lost all his powers. He still pursued an investigation on Intergang with a risk being killed and still managed to post the story for the public. He still endangered his life in pursuit of Truth and Justice even without his powers. And that brings the greatness in his character, where he'd still do the right thing even when he was stripped away of his powers.
And this is why I don’t like it when in later Justice League episodes, Batman is like “They are right to fear you.” Superman will always choose to do what is right, Batman does what is logical. That is why I say, the world needs to fear Batman becoming evil more than Superman.
Chris Reeves said it best when he said Superman was a friend.... A friend who would run a million miles to save a kid with an incurable brain tumor... A friend who would refuse to play the NFL because he had an advantage over other players... A friend who would argue with his dad about adopting a homeless stray dog on the street... That is the essence of Superman.... And the legacy of Superman has always stayed intact all these years apart from Snyder's version
@@supersaiyan23130 fellow top student???????? also i would say that superman mboies Christian virtues and values, its especially present in his origin story and how hie is written when in charcyer, so he is a bit generic in that sense. i mean his nature is literally universal good so to what extent is literally every good superhero just imitating that universal good. but I def agree spidey takes inspiration from sup. daily planet and daily bugle. marriage lois and mj. teen sups . secret identity. nerdy mild mannered (peter gets angry sometimes though) livewire and electro. osborn and luthor
@@davidakin3840, while I agree with that statement to an extent, I think he's more supposed to represent the kindness of his parents, and by extension, the kindness that was needed during the Great Depression, which is when he was created. Essentially he is Southern hospitality personified, wearing spandex and using his power to help people because he genuinely wants to help.
Someone else said it first but I think it fits perfectly, He's not an Alien, He's not a God, he's just a good man from Kansas who happens to have powers and who tries to do the right thing every day.
He’s an ideal in a way. But in all reality, he’s love personified. He IS what we ASPIRE to be. Good people. Caring. Forgiving and understanding. He is sacrificial, a symbol for hope and light. We all aspire to be more than what we are but in what way? Good or bad? Lex or Kal-El? Superman is the depth of our souls that sees that we can shed a tear for those we don’t know because we feel their pain and comprehend their existence. You are important, you matter. You have a heart. A soul that is deserving of love and respect. That is how Superman sees the world. He is what we all should be. GOOD.
@@SagesRain You should make a analysis about Lex Luthor, specially the "Smallville" version and how Lex represents the greedy and power hungry nature of humanity at its worst. But, also talk about the sympathetic side of his greedy and non-stop journey of trying to become a god-like being.
Superman has always been one of my favorite superheroes. His powers are cool yes but I'm pulled to him by what he stands for. They way he stands tall in the face of evil and fights for all that is good. Even sparing those he could end in seconds. That's what makes Superman so super in my opinion
When Martian Manhunter gave that eulogy at Superman's funeral in the Justice League episode "Hereafter", what struck me was not only what J'onn says, but the score (Which I heard at the beginning of this video). "Though we are gathered here today, bound together in sorrow and loss, we share a precious gift. We are all of us privileged to live a life that has been touched by Superman. The Man of Steel possessed many extraordinary gifts and he shared them with us freely. None of these gifts were more remarkable than his ability to discern what needed to be done and his unfailing courage in doing it, whatever the personal cost. Let us all strive to accept his gift and pass it along, as an ongoing tribute to Kal-El of Krypton. The immigrant from the stars who taught us all how to be heroes." That broke my heart when I heard it the first time. Superman is powerful, and in more ways than one.
Superman's humanity makes him relatable ("If only reality was that simple") than is powers. -Saved people from suicide -Terrified of the monster Doomsday -has a human wife -Respects is fellow Justice Leaguers -And lastly sacrifices himself
Batman makes you to push beyond yourself and Superman reminds you when to pull your punches. I believe that its that grey area where Humanity truly lies.
What I like a lot about batman and superman is how much they contrast. Aside from the obvious light and dark iterations I like how their personalities differ. Batman is batman first and then Bruce Wayne. Between his egos batman is the real version and Bruce is just a tool. He's Batman's mask and source of income. But with superman, he's Clark kent before he is superman. He may be an alien but he's as human as it gets. He doesn't want to be a god and doesnt look down upon weaker beings since he's grown up among us
Great analysis, but it always comes down to who is writing them and what the author thinks of the characters. I agree the best Superman is the one where he is Clark Kent first and Superman/Kal-El second, but I personally believe for Batman that Bruce Wayne is the real face and there are two masks he wears: the superhero Batman who Bruce Wayne created and is essentially an extension of all his years of training, studying, and perfecting his mind and body to fight injustice; and the billionaire playboy “Bruce Wayne” who he becomes to throw people off from his his superhero activities. The best visual representation of the real Bruce Wayne (to me) is him wearing the bat suit minus the cowl. Those are just my thoughts on the matter.
One could say that Batman gives his all, beyond the limits of his body no matter the situation. Whereas Superman restrains himself and is selective on a certain situation.
I don't like how many people write superman. They often write him as a force of nature or something akin to a godlike Mary sue. When you get a good writer they know Superman isn't a person. He's an ideal. A lofty goal that Clark Kent with all the powers of kal-el can not hope to achieve. Superman would save the day. but Clark would cry to Martha kent about all those he couldn't save in time. Superman is the goal at the end of the day
Superman is basically a god, he has the powers of a god, so he should be written as having power beyond human compression. That doesn't make him a "mary sue", which is an idiotic term. That doesn't mean he can't be written as human at the same time. Superman is also a person, he has a personality, he has likes and dislikes. He has hobbies, funny moments, sad moments, times when he's angry and times when he's happy. Yes he's an ideal but he is more than that. An ideal doesn't cry to it's mother mother over those it couldn't save. A person does that.
@@Auron1Roxas2 superman by definition isnt a mary sue(or gary sue whatever) a mary sue is the ideal the facade that normal humans see superman as this impossible being that never struggles to do anything(i remember reading one superman comic where this viewpoint was explored with a woman in... i think it was a Harlem or Detroit parallel not the best with American microculture, where she got in the habit of calling on superman every time she saw a crime or something like it and her realizing that he's not this all-powerful saviour when he doesn't show up one day when she confronts some thugs and ends up hospitalized for it) Clark Kent is the man trying and occasionally stumbling and failing to be that ideal, that all-powerful ideal that can save everyone, he as much as everyone sees superman as something to aspire towards sadly not every writer realizes this and have occasionally had superman be that impossible mary sue character in short the superman comics are about Clark kent trying to be superman and while winning most of the time he never exactly succeeding in being that impossible can win everything figure
When you understand the character of Superman, he becomes near infinitely more likable. He's so much more complex than some people realize. I also feel like (disregarding the glaring faults of the DCEU films overall) Henry Cavill's Superman is very underappreciated and mischaracterized by the public, fans included.
He was raised to be a good human and he embraces the best of what humanity can be! I agree, All Star Superman is probably the best vision of who Superman could be! His heart can be broken, and he is at his best when his humanity is showing, and when he solves problems with his head and human heart working together!
Superman is much like Batman in my eyes: He doesn't see himself as special at his core. He's doing what he can because he can. He'd expect anyone else with his abilities to do the same.
Superman is a beautiful character and idea, an idea of the humanity at it's best, loveliest and purest form, a form that everyone wants to reach and should reach, not individually as it's not possible for us but as a society, the core of which is love, unity, humanity and Hope!
Every time I watch this video, I’m always taken back to the first Superman story I read, the one that firmly cemented what a Hero should be. It was a little comic for the leap pad interactive book things, based of the Superman anamated series. In the first story a man, Hank, loves reading Superman stories in the paper and wishes he “could be just like Superman!” As the story goes on, we see Superman fighting a robot and Hank watching the battle. Then he notices something, a woman and her kid trapped in their car by debbre! With out thinking Hank rushes to help, saving the woman and child. She calls him a hero and thanks him, but Hank denies the hero part becaus he doesn’t think highly of himself. Then Superman shows up telling Hank he was indeed a hero and delivers the moral of “you don’t have to be Super to be a Hero” and ends it. That story and the many more my firefighter father told me shaped how I saw heroes and how I tried to act. That is what makes him different and important, that inspiration. And to me, a Superman is not Superman unless he could inspire Hank or anyone else to rush into danger to help another person.
Superman reminds me of a quote I read somewhere that I think is very poignant, and is a good example of why I prefer DC to Marvel overall” “Marvel writes about everyday people struggling with godlike powers; DC writes about Gods who struggle to be everyday people”
This is one of the best explanations about his character, Superman has always been about having power and use it for the good of others, I know this is not something important but I am a SuperWonder shipper and I can say without doubt that in the new 52 Superman we see a good example of a more human Superman, the one that show his emotions, his fears and doubts but still do the right thing because thats what he believes in, I am sad in how DC simply decide to kill him and change everything to look like it never happen.
@@dcmarvelcomicfans9458 rebirth was better imo but superman's biggest problem is with the writers, they make him a plot device 95% of the time worse than the sentry like they once made him more powerful than the presence for cry out loud
So a lot of other people have already covered a lot of the good points and how they like what you've had to say, I just wanted to add that while for these reasons superman has always been one of if not my favorite hero and what always stuck out to me even as a small child was that he *CHOOSES* to be a hero, not circumstance, revenge, rage, or even responsibility just that he chooses it, and I've always wanted heroes to be something you should strive to be not just a "high" stakes story because they have "weak" powers(let's be honest basically every character has plot armor and only loses when it's better for the writer)
Thank you so much Superman is it always will be my favorite character and his ideals have inspired me since I was a young boy this video though short and It encapsulates a very strong side of him that people often overlook thank you
For someone who's been in some very dark places in our life and accuse trying to be a symbol of strength and Hope for those around him. I know it's hard I know it's difficult and are a lot of things that can make someone lose their way and lose their strength when those days come around I remember these words. "Be strong, be good." These words remind me that the path of the protector is more righteous than the path of the Destroyer. And I even though it's hard Indian if you can make one good change and even one person's life, then all the pain and all the struggle you go through if you can do one good thing for even one life it makes it all worth it, it's enough to keep going on.
"When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you." This quote from spiderman works well for superman. He is a hero that tries to save everyone so the bad stuff does not happen.
Superman and Spider-Man is different. Spider-Man has to do good, based on that line. He has to do good because “With great power, comes great responsibilities”. He becomes a hero because he has the power to do so. He feels like he has to be a hero, because he has the powers and its his responsibilities. Superman, on the other hand, wants to do good. He's taught by Martha and Jonathan Kent to do good. Even if he doesnt have his powers, he would still do good because thats what he believes in, and he wants to do good.
Wow. Ive said i hated superman for years now, and i do still have criticisms. But ive started to come around more lately. And leave it to you to officially win me over. You really are great at appreciating characters
Superman is a great inspiration, but always remember who you are as a person! Accept what you can and cannot do, and make the most of it. Never push yourself to be seen as good or great, but only push because you believe in your own cause. I loved more then half my life helping others, just so the world can be better. But I helped other people so much, that I neglected the most important one: myself. At a point were I was almost dead, I realised that when I’m gone, those people don’t have me to help them. But later I realised, that there are other people who help too. I accepteer the help of others, to help myself. And now 4 years later, I’m still recovering. But I know that when I am ready, I can help more people then I ever could if I died. So I cannot help every being I know at the moment, but I can help myself and a few other people too if needeed. And those people add up during my life, and maybe help others. In that way, we all are super. Not because we want to be, but because we believe in ourselves. (Sorry if it is hard to understand, it’s difficult describing something you don’t have the words for) Have a nice day ☺️
I watched the entirety of Superman the animated series and oh boy. Super man is just an average joe given the power of a god. As a kid he was confused about his abilities and saw them as freaky. As a teenager he took advantage of them on a bully, but it freaked his friend out. As a mature adult he saw his powers as a way to make the world a better place. By being a hero, he can be what humanity should aspire to be. Not super strong or super smart. But have a super heart. In the show I thought he had no personality. But he does and he only reveals it to his family and friends. He has to be Superman, an icon of good. If he ever quivers or breaks, if anyone catches his moment of weaknesses, it would shake people’s faith in him and allow his foe’s to find a crack in his strong exterior. The world’s faith weights heavy on his shoulders but he carries it with glee. Superman is the beauty of humanity.
Superman had values like real human and the compassion that sometimes most people don't however he is a good role model for the young ones and for the elders he inspires people to be good thank you
The thing about superman that gets to me despite being nonhuman and has all the power and can freely leave to go elsewhere because how humanity bashes him shows how much self-control he possesses not being able to punch a critic to the moon must take a lot of control
This is the first video of yours that I've seen, & man, what a first impression! Your point on how Clark Kent, stripped of his Superman persona & powers, would still try to save as many people as he could is spot on. Similar to what you brought up in your video, I think people get lost in the powers & abilities of what Superman can do. They get lost in the Super part of his name while negating the Man aspect, & I suspect that a lot of that has to do how poorly he's been handled in his movies. It doesn't matter how many All-Star Superman's & Superman For All Seasons' (a personal favorite of mine) are written, if the movies continue to make the Man seem boring & the Super the only thing that matters, no one's mind is going to change.
Before Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, I thought all superheroes solved their problems with their fists. Through Superman along with Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Batman, Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Doctor Fate, Hawkgirl, and many others, I see the great divide between heroes and the ordinary. We humans often envy those who are stronger, smarter, faster, or simply better than us and yet they help us and drive us to be better. I don't need a superhuman ability like Kal-El, but I can give people hope, and all I need is a few words.
Hearing the music from the Justice League animated series episode where they have a funeral for Superman after they think Toyman killed him made me realise how much Sage's Rain's voice sounds like Charles Lumbly who voiced the Martian Manhunter in that show.
Justice League and JLU show why Batman and Superman are great, it shows how Batman cares about human life, like when he sat with Ace until she died, and it showed how Superman is chill and human before he is powerful and alien, which is how I saw him before I watched the shows, but they showed why he is a great character, same with Batman
This video still helps when I see people who don’t understand Superman. He’s not trying to be the best of anything, he could, he could be all the evil things people feel that he could be. But he never will because despite everything bad, he holds his heart out for everyone and won’t stray from it. He’s the best superhero because he is truly human.
I used to not like Superman for being over powered, but everything changed when Ben Affleck's Batman attacked. The scene in Justice League when Bruce is talking to Alfredabout Supes was what made me realize how human Superman truly is, despite him being a literal alien. "He's more human than I am. He lived in this world, fell in love, got a job, despite all that power" I agree with you completely. Another amazing video Sage.
There's a comic where Superman loses his powers, and despite that Superman still tries to do save people. It just shows, power or no power, Superman will do his best to save the world.
People who typically don't like Superman are normally in this Container. They don't like them because they never read his books which is obvious and they don't like them because they're afraid that they're leis there less human than an alien from another world.. Superman is a character of morality something that is lacking in today's world he is a character of great empathy Again something that has been subtracted from our existence today.. Why not celebrate being human? Why not celebrate being superhuman with love & kindness.
I have a love/hate relationship with Superman. My favorite depictions of him are the animated cartoons (both the old Fleischer shorts and DCAU ones) and the John Byrne run in the comics, because they don’t make him absurdly powerful, and focus more on his humanity. Superman is at his best when he is dealing with his humanity, which can include anger, frustration, humility, and compassion. He is less interesting, in my opinion, when he’s just breezing through challenges with a smile on his face. This is one of the reasons why it’s hard for me to get into All Star Superman, despite how good I’ve heard it is.
Your vids are kinda underrated. I love the work and overall depth you put into these vids and feel like you need more recognition. Excellent Vid Sage! Edit: just scrolling through the comment section and other people's are saying this also 😂.
Thing I always thought was interesting about Superman is at the end of the day he is Clark Kent. A kid from Smallville raised to do what is right. Even though he came from Krypton, he is a byproduct of Earth. A alien with the powers of a god, defined by his humanity.
Bam, could never get my girl to understand that Clark is why i like the superman stories, not the super feats he does. One of the reasons i surprisingly don't like superman II, because Clark is depicted as a petty selfish jerk in that movie. Clark kicking superman's a$$ in Superman III is where it's at, showing that what makes the man of steel great is his empathy and compassion, not his superhuman strength.
I have always said that Superman's story isn't as much a conflict of a hero and his rogues gallery but a story about humanity. What shapes us. What drives us. It's why his most well known enemy as well as his most well known friend are near foils of each other- Lex Luthor, a normal man who uses his intelligence and resources for the benefit of himself in spite of others. Bruce Wayne/ Batman, a normal man who uses his intelligence and resources for the benefit of others in spite of himself. Superman is the deconstruction of the concept of "Absolute power corrupts absolutely" the story of someone raised to be a good person before all else, and takes that lesson and applies it to the best of his abilities. Sure there are stories where he fails this idea, but Superman is only truly Superman when he sticks by it. Superman is not Batman. Batman became the true persona while Bruce became the disguise. Superman will always be Clark Kent first. Clark drives him to do good. Clark drives him to be better than he once was and to inspire others to do the same. Clark is proud of his humanity.
I would love that you make videos about the Heroes in Crisis stories since I love their confessions. My favorite is Superman where he tells that Clark is not his secret identity since Clark was first and he sometimes has problems with his identity as a person.
Soviet Superman is the only one I love because it shows Superman at his best even when he's raised in a horrible environment. Just because Superman is raised by Stalin and his regime doesn't stop Superman from saving everyone and saving the world. Even though the US hates Superman he still saves Metropolis from being destroyed by Lex Luthor. Superman is the embodiment of kindness, selflessness, and honor. He doesn't care about countries and politics he just wants to save everyone and sees the good in even the worst people. Superman is always afraid that he'll hurt even those who want to harm him.
Woooooow, Sage´s Rain; you hava made a wonderfull work and description of Superman; he is the best of all Superheroes and all the mankind. Many thanks for share your beautiful toughts.

Superman is the only character in my list of favorite DC characters that doesn't completely represent my favorite aspect of the DCU, Legacy. Wally West and Dick Grayson are and likely will be for a very long time in my top 5 fictional characters of all time for this reason, they represent the idea that you can be the best you even if you have a massive shadow to fill, Barry Allen and Batman. Superman is one DC character I love nearly as much and he doesn't embody this ideal at all. Clark is my favorite not because he is the perfect being, he really isn't, but because he strives to be. He makes mistakes and every time it kills him inside. Wally and Dick will personally beat out Clark on my list of favorites for a long time to come but that doesn't take anything away from my love of the big blue himself either. He is what every person should strive to become, a man who tries to be perfect. I would love to hear what you think about that idea of Legacy that is so important in DC and if it means anything to you like it does to me. Thanks
Tyler Vannosdall I respectfully disagree. Superman still ties into the theme of legacy. The opening tune in this video is Superman’s funeral from JLU. That scene - and Superman’s death and funeral - rocked not just the world in the DC, but also our own real world. His impact didn’t just affect the heroes and his loved ones within the DC Universe, but even people like us (even William Shatner). Superman represented the nonstop unbreakable willpower to do what was right regardless of the personal cost. He taught all of us all to be heroes.
Superman has a Legacy yes, but he really isnt following a Legacy though. Nightwing and Wally have tons of these amazing mentors who have done some amazing stuff,Wally has to live up to Barry who sacrificed his life to save the multiverse, Nightwing has to live up to Batman who is Batman and even Superman's Legacy since thats where he got his name from. Their stories are about living up to the Legacy of these already amazing heroes, and Superman doesn't have that. He is creating a legacy for new heroes. He is the inspirer not the inspired.
Crazy how when I look at life and think "what should I do.. What would superman do?." Superman is my hero and he maybe a God but he's a God who pretends to be human and I love him for being a better person than those who would have his power's
As much as I am a big fan of Spider-Man, I really do like Superman a lot when it comes to DC’s heroes. Mostly because he is everything I imagine a hero should be. Not from his powers or that he’s a god, it’s from his kindness and optimism. I know a lot of people prefer Batman because of how many people like there heroes to be dark, brooding, handsome, and tough. I do like Batman, to be honest, but what I hate about Batman is he’s always overhyped by everyone even his fans and they think he can beat everybody even Superman and say “because he’s Batman”. Or that his rival, the Joker, is always involved in everything when they seem to forget he has a huge rogues gallery and it gives them no time to even shine. And also Batman and Superman shouldn’t be pitted against each other in the first place and there is no point into them fighting each other. In fact they are equals and best friends, so why make that argument? Superman is the kind of hero from why I believe there is such things as heroes exist, because we don’t live in worlds like the Purge where people are jerks to each other all the time or hurt people, heroes exist because people want to do good in the world. We can be the best of who we are to help others, our friends, our family, and the helpless. And Superman is the hero who can try do his best to help people and inspire them to be the best of who we can be. Because all he wants to do is he wants to help people for the sake of the planet and humanity because he thinks it’s the right thing to do. And most importantly he loves us. He can see the value in humanity even the most hardened of humanity. He sees us as people, he treats us like people. And most importantly he is the hero who we can aspire to be.
Supes personality wise is like Spiderman when both are with there entire senses and true states of mind both want to be good and are symbols of hope no matter how powerful or skilled they are they want what is best for people and try to do the right thing even if it makes there life or lifestyle miserable.
I often thought that clark is the most miss understood of all the heroes and the most human even more so then humans. So many people just say he is op with out getting to know him.
MOS and BvS evaluated the character for me personally, he grew from an outcast kid who was rejected by society to a man who wants find his ‘why ?’ After finding it, he has the difficulty of learning the balance of his actions and his desire to guide us and show us the best parts of ourselves but society has seen good people go bad and destroy everything in their wake. Their cynicism. Their hate. All of it shows him both the bad and ugly side of humanity. He rekinds with Jonathan through a vision and learns that every single person he doesn’t save can scar him for life but having a person to make him see the good can help him keep going. In the film, the bad could be Batman’s unrested rage against him, the ugly could be Lex Luthor’s manipulation and push to fight Batman and kill him for sake of saving a person he loves. As we grew to know, he saved Batman from the demon that took his soul and gave him a way out his darkness. He saved the world from the kind of evil created by the rebuild remains of his home world, the kind of evil that Superman would’ve been he didn’t held back. Everyone sees a brooding Superman in the DCEU but I see the best version of the character brought to the screen. I was inspired by him in the films from seeing the First Flight to the Sacrifice, A man who has gone through darkness and roadblocks and comes out the another end, a man who is the better man and leader. I’ve never seen a character inspire me so much as he did, the complexity of Superman is best type of Superman.
Diana is a princess from a society of imortal warriors and Batman is a rich kid with issues (lots of issues), so it doesn't surprise me that the guy from Kansas is the human one.
"Superman, the alien with a human heart. Superman, the most human of us all" When I really started to read comics with an older and more mature perspective, this was how I came to understand who Kal was. It was his innate goodness and compassion that made him a compelling character. However, for whatever reason DC has gone so far away from this notion of what defined Superman.
I think most people think they don't like him because they believe he's too prefect and alien, but it's only when you read his story that you realize how HUMAN HE is

Humanity is an Idea rather than a characteristic.
@Zain844 ok
Wow that's deep💯
"Clark Kent is who I am, Superman is what i can do."
In Kingdom Come, after refusing to fight, he became a farmer. That's how human he is.
@@gabrielestrella2272 so you hate every version of him superman or only KC?
@Timberwolf410
You pretty much conveyed *EVERYTHING* that I feel and would like to say, nigh perfectly. It's my genuine Hope that *_hundreds to thousands_*_ of years hence, Superman _*_*WILL BE_*_ _*_LOVINGLY Remembered..._*
...just we lovingly Remember other *_icons_* such as King Arthur, or Heracles/Hercules....
And the legacy of Superman has always stayed intact all these years apart from Snyder's version
to what extent tho is that litterally spider man
@@davidakin3840 to what extent that is spider-man came after superman and obviously took inspiration from him as a hero
So Superman isn't just body and power goals, but he's really people and ideal goals
Yes
GOOD.
@@Kal-El207 Yup, Superman is an idea of absolute good

True!
@@SagesRain You should make a analysis about Lex Luthor, specially the "Smallville" version and how Lex represents the greedy and power hungry nature of humanity at its worst. But, also talk about the sympathetic side of his greedy and non-stop journey of trying to become a god-like being.
Who said that?
Superman has always been one of my favorite superheroes. His powers are cool yes but I'm pulled to him by what he stands for. They way he stands tall in the face of evil and fights for all that is good. Even sparing those he could end in seconds. That's what makes Superman so super in my opinion
Agreed!
I love Superman i hate how people often choose Batman over Superman but people often forget what Superman stands for what are his ideals
That's exactly how I feel too
When Martian Manhunter gave that eulogy at Superman's funeral in the Justice League episode "Hereafter", what struck me was not only what J'onn says, but the score (Which I heard at the beginning of this video).
-Saved people from suicide
-Terrified of the monster Doomsday
-has a human wife
-Respects is fellow Justice Leaguers
-And lastly sacrifices himself
Batman makes you to push beyond yourself and Superman reminds you when to pull your punches. I believe that its that grey area where Humanity truly lies.
What I like a lot about batman and superman is how much they contrast. Aside from the obvious light and dark iterations I like how their personalities differ. Batman is batman first and then Bruce Wayne. Between his egos batman is the real version and Bruce is just a tool. He's Batman's mask and source of income. But with superman, he's Clark kent before he is superman. He may be an alien but he's as human as it gets. He doesn't want to be a god and doesnt look down upon weaker beings since he's grown up among us
Why do I find it hard believe
@@WhiteDarkness3113 I ask myself the same question
Screw you Kill Bill Part 2!
Superman is the goal at the end of the day
I agree. Superman is an exemplary figure that we should strive to be more like.
Doc_Ock_Rokc
Remember Injustice Gods Among Us and Injustice 2?
Joshua Hecht That’s a what if story that has nothing to do with the mainstream, original Superman.
@@Auron1Roxas2 superman by definition isnt a mary sue(or gary sue whatever)
a mary sue is the ideal the facade that normal humans see superman as this impossible being that never struggles to do anything(i remember reading one superman comic where this viewpoint was explored with a woman in... i think it was a Harlem or Detroit parallel not the best with American microculture, where she got in the habit of calling on superman every time she saw a crime or something like it and her realizing that he's not this all-powerful saviour when he doesn't show up one day when she confronts some thugs and ends up hospitalized for it)
Clark Kent is the man trying and occasionally stumbling and failing to be that ideal, that all-powerful ideal that can save everyone, he as much as everyone sees superman as something to aspire towards
sadly not every writer realizes this and have occasionally had superman be that impossible mary sue character
in short the superman comics are about Clark kent trying to be superman and while winning most of the time he never exactly succeeding in being that impossible can win everything figure
Kryptonian blood... Human heart... Superman's greatest strength isn't his powers... Its his humanity and compassion that make him the man of tomorrow
Superman humanity is so interesting cause he the most human out of all of us despite being the most alien
Same. I was honestly annoyed by Superman until I actually took the time to read about him. Now, he's one of my favorite heroes.
When you understand the character of Superman, he becomes near infinitely more likable. He's so much more complex than some people realize. I also feel like (disregarding the glaring faults of the DCEU films overall) Henry Cavill's Superman is very underappreciated and mischaracterized by the public, fans included.
👍. Any thoughts on ZSJL if you have seen it?
He was raised to be a good human and he embraces the best of what humanity can be! I agree, All Star Superman is probably the best vision of who Superman could be!
His heart can be broken, and he is at his best when his humanity is showing, and when he solves problems with his head and human heart working together!
People think that superman is boring because they see warrior side of the superman,he is kindness itself and its his best power
Finally found a TH-camr who understands and respects superman
I have never cried over an explanation of a superhero before .
Now I did.
Superman reminds me of a quote I read somewhere that I think is very poignant, and is a good example of why I prefer DC to Marvel overall”
“Marvel writes about everyday people struggling with godlike powers; DC writes about Gods who struggle to be everyday people”
This is one of the best explanations about his character, Superman has always been about having power and use it for the good of others, I know this is not something important but I am a SuperWonder shipper and I can say without doubt that in the new 52 Superman we see a good example of a more human Superman, the one that show his emotions, his fears and doubts but still do the right thing because thats what he believes in, I am sad in how DC simply decide to kill him and change everything to look like it never happen.
They killed him because comic book fans didn't see pre-new 52 superman in New 52 Superman he sucked no offense
And also you may not know this but go read sideways they brought that version of Superman back no joke
@@dcmarvelcomicfans9458 rebirth was better imo but superman's biggest problem is with the writers, they make him a plot device 95% of the time worse than the sentry like they once made him more powerful than the presence for cry out loud

Sage, your voice sounds almost like Martian Manhunter’s lol
But damn dude I like this video on Superman and his humanity
love the fact he used superman's music from jla unlimited when he died, felt nostalgic when listening to this.
Thank you so much Superman is it always will be my favorite character and his ideals have inspired me since I was a young boy this video though short and It encapsulates a very strong side of him that people often overlook thank you
No, thank you!
"When you can do the things that I can, but you don't, and then the bad things happen, they happen because of you."
This quote from spiderman works well for superman. He is a hero that tries to save everyone so the bad stuff does not happen.
Underrated quote! Great comment!
Not a deep quote lol
(Sorry if it is hard to understand, it’s difficult describing something you don’t have the words for)
Have a nice day ☺️
I watched the entirety of Superman the animated series and oh boy.
A shorter video, but none the less still a good video!
As always, thank you!
I always said clarks greatest power is his humanity
And people say that All Might is a better hero than him. This is a real hero
i fucking hate it when the anime fans pull shit like that
Really both are great heroes not gonna lie
the newest superman itterations arent superman anymore, they are just super.
im talking to you injustice
Before Justice League and Justice League Unlimited, I thought all superheroes solved their problems with their fists. Through Superman along with Green Arrow, Martian Manhunter, Batman, Wonder Woman, Black Canary, Doctor Fate, Hawkgirl, and many others, I see the great divide between heroes and the ordinary. We humans often envy those who are stronger, smarter, faster, or simply better than us and yet they help us and drive us to be better. I don't need a superhuman ability like Kal-El, but I can give people hope, and all I need is a few words.
This sums up the coolest thing about Clark honestly! Well done, once again!
So beautifully written
Hearing the music from the Justice League animated series episode where they have a funeral for Superman after they think Toyman killed him made me realise how much Sage's Rain's voice sounds like Charles Lumbly who voiced the Martian Manhunter in that show.
i've been saying for years superman is not a god, just a man who wants to do the right thing.
thank you sage.
Jeez man, I feel like every video you make, no matter who is about, really hits on a different level.
Beautiful just beautiful
Justice League and JLU show why Batman and Superman are great, it shows how Batman cares about human life, like when he sat with Ace until she died, and it showed how Superman is chill and human before he is powerful and alien, which is how I saw him before I watched the shows, but they showed why he is a great character, same with Batman
The DCAU is awesome
Someone who gets Zack Snyder's depiction of Superman. Thank you guys 🤜🏾. I am sad I see this only now
Sadly there are still some people in the comments who are trying to trash Snyderverse Superman
I'm never truly prepared mentally when i see you put out a new video they always inspire me keep up the great work
This video still helps when I see people who don’t understand Superman. He’s not trying to be the best of anything, he could, he could be all the evil things people feel that he could be. But he never will because despite everything bad, he holds his heart out for everyone and won’t stray from it. He’s the best superhero because he is truly human.
Sage hits and knocks it right out of the ballpark! Damn, this is the kind of stuff i'd support!
I used to not like Superman for being over powered, but everything changed when Ben Affleck's Batman attacked.
The scene in Justice League when Bruce is talking to Alfredabout Supes was what made me realize how human Superman truly is, despite him being a literal alien.
"He's more human than I am. He lived in this world, fell in love, got a job, despite all that power"
I agree with you completely. Another amazing video Sage.
There's a comic where Superman loses his powers, and despite that Superman still tries to do save people. It just shows, power or no power, Superman will do his best to save the world.
True and there was also an episode of Justice League TAS when he didn't have his powers but still managed to prove himself to be quite the survivor.
This video is just breathtaking. The way you describe Superman and what he TRULY is is just wonderful.
You definitely have a golden tongue💯❤️

I'm not crying, you're crying
People forget that Superman isn’t about a super who is a man.
It's about a man who is super.
Exactly!! People need to understand that he's Clark Kent first, Superman second. He's raised as a human, as Clark Kent.
The video is beutiful and you cleary understand the core of Superman.
I have always said that Superman's story isn't as much a conflict of a hero and his rogues gallery but a story about humanity. What shapes us. What drives us. It's why his most well known enemy as well as his most well known friend are near foils of each other-
Lex Luthor, a normal man who uses his intelligence and resources for the benefit of himself in spite of others.
The best superhero 🔥🔥🔥
I would love that you make videos about the Heroes in Crisis stories since I love their confessions. My favorite is Superman where he tells that Clark is not his secret identity since Clark was first and he sometimes has problems with his identity as a person.
love the way you narrate the stories bro💯
Soviet Superman is the only one I love because it shows Superman at his best even when he's raised in a horrible environment. Just because Superman is raised by Stalin and his regime doesn't stop Superman from saving everyone and saving the world. Even though the US hates Superman he still saves Metropolis from being destroyed by Lex Luthor. Superman is the embodiment of kindness, selflessness, and honor. He doesn't care about countries and politics he just wants to save everyone and sees the good in even the worst people. Superman is always afraid that he'll hurt even those who want to harm him.
idk if you do this on purpose but each and ever video is so soothing, so calm and collected. you my friend have earned my sub

Superman is not a god or a symbol, he is just a good man with a lot of power and responsability
Truth!
Thanks
Thank you!
Superman came from another planet but he has always been more human than any of us ever since he was found and raised by humans.
that first quote from Batsy is one of my fave Batman/Superman Public Enemies
Crazy how when I look at life and think "what should I do.. What would superman do?." Superman is my hero and he maybe a God but he's a God who pretends to be human and I love him for being a better person than those who would have his power's
Underrated channel
Wonderful commentary, thanks for the continued videos they always are awesome
I often thought that clark is the most miss understood of all the heroes and the most human even more so then humans. So many people just say he is op with out getting to know him.
Your channel is one of the most quality content channel. Can't wait for the next video!
Thank you man!
dude, you had me chocked up a bit watching this.
Respect.
👍. Thoughts after ZSJL?
Zack Snyder took the "God" part to a hundred.
Diana is a princess from a society of imortal warriors and Batman is a rich kid with issues (lots of issues), so it doesn't surprise me that the guy from Kansas is the human one.
"Superman, the alien with a human heart. Superman, the most human of us all"
When I really started to read comics with an older and more mature perspective, this was how I came to understand who Kal was. It was his innate goodness and compassion that made him a compelling character. However, for whatever reason DC has gone so far away from this notion of what defined Superman.
Naijagyal01 have you read rebirth?
christian crusader What I read is what kept me away from it. Now I'm keeping more of a summary review interest.
