Mate, you've got it pretty wrong with the Xenyx 302. The reason it has such a high amount of noise is due to the fact that it has a base noise floor, and the less you crank the microphone gain/output level, the closer the microphone input will be to this noise floor. There's a bit of an art to making it output the best signal it can, due to the fact that cranking either knobs all the way up results in a bit of extra noise - though for my purpose (realtime voice communication) combined with the fact that I have to speak rather quietly, there's not much of a choice. Another interesting thing is that you can also use the "high" EQ setting to reduce the amount of hiss by turning it down, alongside turning the lows down just as much. This will result in a significantly worse sound for vocals, but for getting an even cleaner guitar signal it is quite adequate. All in all, if you tinker a lot with it - you'll get a pretty damn clean signal. The "optimal" signal which is around 70% on the microphone gain (the white knob) and 45-55% on the microphone level (the black knob) with highs and lows all the way down, however, requires a very "hot" signal in the first place, which would probably only be achieved with a stronk condenser microphone or active guitar pickups cranked up to output a very loud signal. dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/63152810/xenyxtest.wav Here's a little recording demonstrating good settings (high mic gain + high-ish mic level) with a bit of post-recording gain, then followed up with turning the settings bad (low mic gain + full mic level) and raising the volume significantly post-recording. Quite a bit noisier, like in this video - though even then, much less so. Certainly a far cry from the sound quality you get from properly configuring this thing in the first place, though! IMPORTANT NOTE: In the sound options of Windows, I actually have the volume of this device set to a lowly 3/100, exactly to further smash the base noise floor of the device down the gutter. 1/100 obviously results in the least amount of noise possible, but even if the device outputs a clipped signal it only reaches -10 dB, 2/100 maxes out around -4 dB, while 3/100 has a maximum output of around -0.5 dB with only slightly more noise than 1/100. This is probably the most important tidbit about this thing - it /can/ output a surprisingly loud signal that is very far from the significant noise floor people complain about, you just have to crank it way the fuck down in Windows to allow it to do so.
OMG i bought that Behringer and that noise is already without connected any device. Any records must be modified for reduce noise. Don't buy it now I must sell it or throw in bin.
I just tried a Behringer 802USB compared to my Scarlet Solo. Lots of hiss on the behringer, no matter how low I set the main or the gains, and even with the mic input at 80% in windows. The microphone was barely audible and I still got more hiss than using my solo. I also got more interference noise on the Behringer, including hard drive noise. Too bad, because I really liked the idea of having some compression on board. But, the Behringer is going back.
@@WondersofWatchdom Comparatively it will do poorly, yes. :- ) Probably not even worth considering in the current electronic component drought, as it's likely to have Fire Hazard-tier board components.
I am A rock n roll DJ so I don't scratch etc. however I used the focusrite from my computer into a Mackie mixing desk then into my Bose tower system, unfortunately my Focusrite failed after many gigs. As it was so small I carried the Behringer as back-up. I was pleasantly surprised, after minor adjustments to the eq the sound achieved was comparable, the difference between the sound reproduction was minimal. The dj program on my computer is pcdj red mobile 3. I would say that for the price the Behringer just edges it. I also have less to transport, as my style of work does not involve intricate mixing the Behringer meets all my requirements. I found your review well presented & in depth, though not fully agreeing with your final conclusions it was still extremely helpful.
Great review. Camera is very good, camera work is really good, edited very nice. The narrator speaks clear, sound quality is good. I was enjoying watching it. I bought Q502USB two days ago, I use it for guitar connection, and I like it so far.
This video is actually really well made. Yes the kid might not be a pro narrator, but he sure knows his hardware. Also great job on editing and camerawork! This made me switch from Xenyx 502 (a bit different model) to Focusrite 2i2. Regarding the sound test - that's totally how Xenyx works for me too. Kinda fuzzy with my Rode Procaster. Good job, Aidan!
Thank you!!! I have that exact microphone (at2020) and the 302USB, and I need to set both the gain and mic levels above 60% to get a usable volume level - and it has exactly that hiss (and there is no combination of gain and mic settings which provide decent volume without a significant hiss). Every time I looked for a solution or explanation, I couldn't find any clear answer, except implications that my own inexperience was the fault. And so many guides just said that a pre-amp that wasn't powerful enough, or that was malfunctioning, would just "sound bad" or "won't work well" - without ever saying what that actually meant or the ways to identify it as the problem. Your video finally confirmed that the problem is the pre-amp. I don't need to buy another microphone that is more expensive, or a different computer which might produce less electrical interference, or take lessons from a pro to figure out this basic problem - it's the pre-amp. Speaking if which, the 302USB says it provides phantom power, but it doesn't supply the 48v phantom power that is the accepted standard. It provides 15v and calls it "phantom power", but it doesn't even disclose this on the specs sheet. That's probably why the volume levels are low and the hiss is so loud; it's not providing the voltage the microphone is designed for.
As someone who owns both (I have the 1002 Behringer instead) the big thing for me is what you want to use it for. For studio style recording - get the audio interface. The higher quality recording of the original signal is the winner here as everything else is in the post processing where you want as pure and as clean a signal as possible. For everything else, get the mixer as it’s far more flexible. Want to take your music live? Get the mixer as you can’t post process when live. Want a loud microphone so you can talk or sing at more of a distance? Get a mixer as you can really dial those things up. Finally, are you skint? Get the mixer because good Lord, those interfaces are bloody expensive. My only 2 gripes with the Behringer mixer is that it needs mains power, and that it gets hot. I don’t mind the hiss so much as that only comes into play when you have dialled the gain up too high but again, it’s decent for a starter home studio who wants bang for buck.
HEY IF YOURE WORRIED ABOUT THE HISSING OF THE 302 PURCHASE AN EXTERNAL POWER SUPPLY, ITS NOT EXPENSIVE AND ERASES BASICALLY ALL BACKGROUND HISS, ALSO IN THE WINDOWS SETTING CHANGE THE RECORDING VOLUME PROPERTY DOWN IT WILL LOWER THE BACKGROUND NOISE ALOT.
In the 302USB test you setup the gain so high that the pre-amp blows and the voice is broken. You should low the gain in the 302USB and could sound as good as the 2i2.
You have a lot more control of inputs and mix routing in the 2i2 Software. The reason there isn't both a mic gain and channel gain is because the 2i2 has High-Z which sets initial gain based on the impedance of the instruments. Focusrite Preamps are much more superior than Behringer Preamps, which you have already determined in your tests.
***** Thanks for mentioning that, I haven't experimented myself with the software of the 2i2, and as such didn't comment on that in the video, but that is a good point. And as for the pre-amps, they are most certainly superior, but for some people the pre-amps of the 302USB will be sufficient.
You could connect the microphone to the focusrite, and connect the focusrite to the mixer, connect mixer to computer, i wonder how the quality would sound then... and then you would be able to use 48v right? I've had the Scarlett focus rite before and done this before with a different mixer, it works, it was actually recommended to me to use both, instead of just a mixer.
You are a resist .. 302 have very minimum unnoticeable hiss sound..u also told that at testing that you raised the high frequency for crysp sound .. I use 302 and 2i2 both ..I did not noticed any differences..but the flexibility...
ya ..but you will never get the live monitoring facility in Focusrite scarlett.and also you can use 3.5 mm audio jack to input microphone sound.also you will never get 4 channel input facility and 2 channel output facility..I think beringer is worth better ...its up to you ..your money your choice.
Hello i have one question about the Behringer 302USB i recently bought one for my microphone but im trying to play it though the speakers what is the 2 Tracks for are those for speakers ? i need to know asap
+EZ 'The Rapper' You can monitor your audio going into the 302USB by plugging your 3.5mm jack from you speakers into the headphone jack and controlling it through the 'phones' dial. You might also be able to run your speakers into the 'output' jacks under 'main mix'. I haven't tried this personally, but that might work.
I own the Shure sm7b and the Behringer, and are considering selling the Behringer. It simply records vocals too low and starts getting distorted trying to go higher.
Quick question for you, I am going to buy a interface to record my electric guitar and acoustic guitar, so what will be better, Focusrite Scarlett solo or Behringer UMC202HD??
Everyone is puzzled by Phantom Power and the apparent lack of it on the Xenyx 302. It has 20V, well short of the standard 48V. But is weak Phantom Power the reason the gain on the 302 is marginal compared to the 212? I thought it was either/or. XLR=no phantom power; condenser mic=phantom power requirement, which is built into the USB mic design. Maybe the 302 would work best with a USB mic, which could draw on the extra 20V for reserve power.
Wow. The Focusrite mic preamp is remarkably better in every way. The noise floor difference is the most renmaerkable, as it's a bit difficult to tell the difference in the sound quality with the limitations of TH-cam's audio quality. Going back over that bit a few times, though, there is an extra bit of warmth, clarity Anne smoothness with the Focusrite. I was really looking for comparisons of Focusrite mic preamps and brands likebAvid and Presonus, but pretty much everything I've seen and read tells me the mic preamps in the Focusrite are pretty much the best you can get for the price. Thanks for the demonstration. You've definitely removed all doubt that fFocusrite is THE choice for pro quality mic preamp sound at an amazingly affordable price.
Yeah, I had one of the Behringer USB mixers for one day, messed with the settings as much as possible and took it right back. The hiss is unbearable. I'll be going over to the Focusrite next.
Hey Aidan Thanks so much for your informative and detailed comparison. I must admit I went phew with your final conclusion as I have just bought the Focusrite having contemplated other brands including Behringer. Your review has helped and set my mind at rest confirming that I have obtained the right kit. Cheers, Keith
Aidan! you rock! You're now officially my favourite kid after my own kids :) I'll tell you why. I was running almost 10 USB audio interfaces in the last week from all over the NET including local forums, and all summed up to these 2 babies 2i2 and 302USB. I love my analog MX502A which is a big old brother to the little 302USB and I know its features and knobs and break points in my sleep. But why have another mixer for the compromise on real USB audio? I'll tell you. In a budget (starting) recording setup I got down from the higher end cards like Steinberg UR22 and Komplete Audio 6 and Roland Quad Capture, and back into the half price range and see where I'm heading. I just bought the 2i2 and LaunchKey 61 MK1 for the price of one of those higher end USB cards, when I know that if this catches on, I'll have a blast on the way, learn to mix and track and master my songs (I have more than 50) and then sell or keep those and buy myself an upgrade set of everything. So... why you REALLY ROCK? You're verbose and in the nicest way, you cover the important stuff which people forget, which is soul, not only technical specs, and you ALSO WANTED TO PAINT THAT AWEFUL RED!!!! This is exactly what I told the store keeper when ordering the 2i2, I'm going to paint it as soon as I have time to get my spray can :) or... acrylic color set... Actually I'll ask my artistic wife to help me on that. And you have AT2020 there right? and Samson C01 which I also wanted to get to compensate my good ol' friend Shure SM58 which I carry around for 20 years and it matches my voice great, especially when recording something at small hours. I think I'll get the AT2020 or another Shure which is low on the low end. Now I'm blubering again... so excited. I'm glad I bumped into your video which is EXACTLY what I needed 2 hours ago when I purchsed the stuff. It is very hard to get the 302USB and I think I'll buy myself that last unit and see when I take it with me to a field recording when I need to quickly EQ a Mic and Guitar input and use a recording machine with some external speakers - its actually a great GIG unit to go with a laptop. I thank you for being kind and sharing your young experience voice, and I wish you to always enjoy your musical adventures and be creative and educative and friendly to all musicians :) Enjoy! ZD
+Zvika Dror Wow, thank you so much Zvika! This really means a lot! I'm glad I could be helpful with these videos, when I started making them it was really to just get some practice and have some fun making videos. I'm super happy that I could be helpful and provide some useful information for you, and help you out with your (super awesome) project! Speaking of that, I have to say that sounds really cool! It sounds like a really interesting idea, and I will be super interested to see how that turns out. Also, if you upload any of those songs at any point, shoot me a link, I'd love to give them a listen! And yes, I'm still using the AT2020. I've been pretty happy with it so far, and I can't really find any issues! However, Shure has some pretty great options as well in their low end lineup, you can't go wrong with either! Once again, thank you for all your kind words, it really does mean the world to me, and good luck with your projects and with painting the 2i2 :) Aidan
good review , i got some questions. 1 ) Can i connect studio monitors with 302 ? 2 ) I saw another Audio .Interface : " Behringer UM2 Audio Interface " it costs little bit more, i wanna ask will Behringer UM2 Audio Interface will give rich output than 302 usb as it is just a audio interface not a mixer. i want good Audio interface for mastering and mixing of my beats music ,which should i prefer ? I really don't need extra xlr connection , one is enough for me . any suggestion ? i have three options according to my budget : Scarlet solo ,Behringer UM2 , 302 Usb.
ItsLovesMusic - R&B Beats | pop beats | hip hop Beats instrumentals No, you can't connect studio monitors to the 302USB. Unfortunately I don't really have experience with the UM2 interface, or the Scarlett Solo, so I can't give much advise on which is better.
Aidan, how can I connect my phone in for interview during podcast by being able to hear the other person and they being able to hear me through the mic or channel?
I'm considering to purchase the 302USB, but does the noise really that audible? I've seen other videos on the 302USB, but none of them show as much noise as this video did.
Ahmad Ilyas The noise is not too bad, it is noticeable but not too distracting. The preamps on the 2i2 are much cleaner, but the 302USB does a pretty decent job, and it is generally pretty clean audio.
Aidan Fryer thank you for the reply, Aidan. I am aware that the 2i2 is sonically superior to the 302USB, but as we know, the price is also substantially higher, which is one of my main concerns at the moment. But otherwise, very much obliged for the excellent review.
I totally understand Ahmad. The 302USB makes a really solid option, and it gives many of the features that the more expensive amps give for a pretty good price. Sometimes you might need to use the noise reduction tool in post, but otherwise it performs really well, and I think in many ways it makes more sense to start with the 302USB, as it is a pretty solid device. Good luck, and thanks for watching!
If I want to record a Guitar (Using a pedal-board that already gives me a lot of gain so I do not need to use the ones in the Scarlett nor the ones in the Behringer) with both interfaces I would get the same audio quality?
Jonah Paz at that point it’s based more on your microphone, the 302 is pretty good tho I have used one for over 2 years, just got the Scarlett bundle though excited to see how good it handles
I've got both and using 2i2 for usb connection and 302 for external connection to audio set ups. 2i2 is for me and 302 when with friends :-) Can you suggest best near field speakers for a home studio?
You've proven the value if not necessity of the ungainly pop filter since, unlike another comparison of interfaces, I'm not hearing pops (a foam cover reduces but doesn't eliminate the unwanted utterances). This helps since I have both units (though I'm left wondering how well the U-Phoria holds up in this company). As for painting? Only if you're content to resell your old model for 4 bits.
Look on sweetwater.com they always have lots of new deals. And you can purchase items on a 3 month payment plan. I just recently got the scarlett 2i2, mic stand, and Akg c214 microphone package for 499.99. I didn't answer your question, but i'd check out the site.
Yeah, while I really like my 2i2 and it works well for my setup, I still really appreciate the 302USB. It makes a solid budget option, and has some areas where it prevails over the 2i2, and the upwards facing XLR is a nice position in my opinion. Thanks for trusting my review on it!
Aidan Fryer I've also noticed my 302 unit has considerably less buzz than yours did. over all, i don't regret my purchase at all, solid review, Thanks.
+Tanvir Ahmed From memory I was using the Audio Technica AT2020 mic into the Scarlett 2i2 for audio. For video I was using the Canon 60D and Sigma 17-70mm.
the 302 seems to sacrifice a lot of things for the USB component, being the same price as the 802, i'd be very interested in an recording comparison of the 802 and the 2i2
If I want to record a Guitar (Using a pedal-board that already gives me a lot of gain so I do not need to use the ones in the Scarlett nor the ones in the Behringer) with both interfaces I would get the same audio quality?
Excellent review!!! Articulate, concise, thorough. Easy to understand. You hit on all the points I needed addressed to make an informed purchase. Many thanks
I think we are hearing the fan from your PC, enough to obscure the difference in hiss between these 2 interfaces. I have the Focusrite Solo, then tried a 302USB as a cheap, portable backup -- because of its basic EQ and mixing functions, option to use simple lav mics with 3.5 mm plugs (using the mic part of mixer's headset jacks) , and low price. But the 302usb definitely makes considerably more noise, at all settings I've tried, with both dynamic and condenser mics, compared to the Focusrite product. I'm guessing this is because the 302usb lacks full 48v phantom power, although the difference is also apparent with dynamic mics that don't need or use the phantom power. If I could choose only 1, I would definitely go with Focusrite -- it's a solid, quality product. Thanks for the video.
I'm not sure why I'm thinking this and I couldn't tell you but it looks as if this comparison is biaised... You are like 80% unfairly favorable to the 2i2
2i2 (gen1) might have exterior durability but not on the inside. the input preamp (both of them) gets nosier and nosier overtime. ive been using it for 3/4 years now. at least with $50 behringer you not gonna get disapointed like i am now with scarlet 2i2. you will consider it as an upgrade anyway.
Quick question, I'm looking between the 302USB and the 2i2 and I plan on using a Shure SM7B with it once I buy it. Will either perform the job for it? Thanks :)
Necronyx While I haven't had personal experience with that mic, it requires a fair amount of power. Shure recommends 60db of gain for the microphone, and the 2i2 only puts out around 48db. If you are going to use the mic with a 2i2, I would reccomend using something liike the Cloudlifter CL-1 to boost the gain of the mic, and to add that extra volume if you find that the pre-amps on the Scarlett 2i2 aren't cutting it. As for the 302USB, I would advise against it as the pre-amps are not up to scratch for a microphone like the SM7B.
Individual level controls for highs and lows? What is that? I think sound quality is the most important thing. All kinds of knobs and sliders are not valuable if the sound is not up to snuff. "HISS"!!!!! Noticeable hiss is not acceptable these days. Thanks for a well done video. You speak clearly and the picture is good. You obviously prepared it properly and edited very well. Keep them coming. No complaints. If I comment it is because I think it's worth my time based on the big effort you put in.
hi, what do you recommend for me? i want to create a small home studio, which one is more preferable? xenxy qu 50 mixer or focusrite you show in this vidio.?
Hi, Aydan, very nice review. I have the two devices and has very illustrative. I want to know how I can rip my vinils with one of these. Sorry for my bad english and best regards from Montevideo.
For usb302 If you put the mic volume all the way up it makes a lot of hiss put the volume knobe at 60 degree and gain at 90 even if you put gain all the way up it may start clipping but it wont make any noise unless and until your mic level is less.......thats what i notice with my interface.....its weired......
The raw testing wasn't quite polished here. You should start with both DACs set to roughly 50% on gain, and 50% volume on the 302. Then adjust them with the camera pointed at the DAC and not your face so people can see where the fuzz starts on each, then repeat the test while playing music in the background so people can find the right levels. Maxing out the volume on the 302 is going to create a hiss like it would with any device on max. It's not a fair test.
Am I able with Scarlett to record both microphone and audio coming from my PC? With Xenyx 302 audio is coming through USB so I can do that. Is it the same with Scarlett ? Also will I be able to change gain for audio coming form PC in Scarlett separately from microphone ?
I've got a problem with my Xenyx 302 usb. When I record sound in Audacity, everything is okay. When I start to talk on TS3 or Skype, every louder spoken word is a 'coupling'? So that means I started to be iDubzz when I don't want to. Any ideas what should I do?
Hey Aidan, I'm looking to buy one of these alongside an AKG P420 Condenser Mic. I was looking at these two optionsand wanted to go for the 302USB because of the on board EQ, but I heard that the Pre-Amp on it isn't too good. Will the 302USB be a good option to use as an interface? Thanks
+Anmar AJ Hi Anmar, the 302USB would be a decent option for that microphone, but as you mentioned the pre-amps aren't that great. They do the job, but for a mic at that pricepoint you would probably be wanting to look at something like the Scarlett 2i2 to power it, as it is a little bit more demanding, and you will probably get a better result from it. I would recommend doing your EQing in post, or running it through a filter on your PC. The 302USB would do the job for the P420, but I stepping up a notch would get you better results with that mic.
+Aidan Fryer What effects do you recommend? I use Adobe Auditon and I use the parametric equalizer and boost the bass and treble a little bit, then I normalize it and use noise removal, is there anything I should do differently?
+Anmar AJ I also use Adobe Audition, but I'm by no means an expert. Usually I do largely the same process, although I do usually apply multiband compressor with the preset for boosting the lows. While the EQ settings on the 302USB are slightly useful, I never found myself using them, and just kept them flat almost constantly. In the end you will be needing to bring the file into Audition for noise removal anyway, so having the EQ on the mixer didn't save me much time in my experience, and wasn't an addition I found that compelling.
Alpha yaaa he is sucks. he should increase the gain, not the volume till the maximum. if he want to compare the audio quality. he should use same dynamic mic and 2i2 phantom power must be turn off. then It will be fair
+Prashanth Beats They are both very similar, just a mixer has level controls, and the 2i2 can also run headphones, instruments and speakers through it. They both power microphones, and act as a pre-amp and the device which carries the signal to your PC.
***** the Q802usb Xenyx seems to be better for condenser mics, they have the 48v phantom power, i can't tell on practice because i do not have one, but the reviews seems better.
focusrite 2i2 ,I am using it for recording in USB otg interface in smule (I sing - karaoke) for android. but when I use my monitoring headphone, I get a statter or lag at hearing the background while I karaoke, what should I do?
focusrite = "more elegant", 302 can usb speakers too, I guess is whats MAIN MIX is for, oh, and you can turn down the gain and lv switches from behringer mic, they were made to control that gain lv putting red... definitely a "not biased" video...
There's really a serious rumble going on below 80hz in this video, quite disturbing in my headphones. You should cut everything below 80hz next time. Just an advice...
+Gear Head HD You could connect them to the 302USB, and I did try that out. However, I found that the 302USB struggled to provide enough power for the microphone and the speakers at once. I could connect them, but it didn't work very well in my experience.
+Aidan Fryer I only want to record Guitar / Bass so no power is needed but still will it be a proble ? And If I do buy the 302USB where do I plug in the Studio Monitors ( In RCA form ) to the Output or the Headphone jack ? Thanks :)
+Gear Head HD I can't say as I didn't get the chance to test it out myself, but I would not rely on it working. To plug in your monitors you will need to get a cable to run your monitors to the RCA, then you plug it into the 'Output' on the top of the mixer under 'main mix''.
15V, more than enough for nearly all consumer grade microphones, from 15V to 48V there is as little as 2-3dB difference in the gain in most microphones, voltage just adds more sensibility.
Set speed at 1.5 and thank me later
Thank you sooo much!
what do you mean? if u d'nt mind..
=D gaadddzzz
that intro music tho
If you try 0.5 its still funny xD

That's probably why the volume levels are low and the hiss is so loud; it's not providing the voltage the microphone is designed for.
can you connect both
As someone who owns both (I have the 1002 Behringer instead) the big thing for me is what you want to use it for.
Do you have testing that option?
Hey,how do you use it through FL Studio
You could connect the microphone to the focusrite, and connect the focusrite to the mixer, connect mixer to computer, i wonder how the quality would sound then... and then you would be able to use 48v right?
I've had the Scarlett focus rite before and done this before with a different mixer, it works, it was actually recommended to me to use both, instead of just a mixer.
You are a resist .. 302 have very minimum unnoticeable hiss sound..u also told that at testing that you raised the high frequency for crysp sound .. I use 302 and 2i2 both ..I did not noticed any differences..but the flexibility...
subhadeep das can I use 302 instead focusrite without compromising audio quality....
ya ..but you will never get the live monitoring facility in Focusrite scarlett.and also you can use 3.5 mm audio jack to input microphone sound.also you will never get 4 channel input facility and 2 channel output facility..I think beringer is worth better ...its up to you ..your money your choice.
The 302USB has direct monitor but you can't turn it off, right?
I wonder if the Vehringer couldn't be better If you played around with gain and level more two knobs. Focusrite has just level..
Aidan Fryer thank you bro !
@@AidanFryer I think he was asking what the "2 Track" RCA inputs are for. I have the same question.
I own the Shure sm7b and the Behringer, and are considering selling the Behringer. It simply records vocals too low and starts getting distorted trying to go higher.
The hiss isn't really a bother to me because of processing after but for pricing purposes the 302USB is the way to go
The Xenyx 502 is even cheaper. What would the benefit of using the 302USB over the 502 be?
Quick question for you, I am going to buy a interface to record my electric guitar and acoustic guitar, so what will be better, Focusrite Scarlett solo or Behringer UMC202HD??
Everyone is puzzled by Phantom Power and the apparent lack of it on the Xenyx 302. It has 20V, well short of the standard 48V. But is weak Phantom Power the reason the gain on the 302 is marginal compared to the 212? I thought it was either/or. XLR=no phantom power; condenser mic=phantom power requirement, which is built into the USB mic design. Maybe the 302 would work best with a USB mic, which could draw on the extra 20V for reserve power.
cheers for the audio comparions!
+Marco Riosa No problem!
Aidan! you rock! You're now officially my favourite kid after my own kids :)
I'll tell you why.
I thank you for being kind and sharing your young experience voice, and I wish you to always enjoy your musical adventures and be creative and educative and friendly to all musicians :)
Enjoy!
Once again, thank you for all your kind words, it really does mean the world to me, and good luck with your projects and with painting the 2i2 :)
Aidan
Proper gain staging is needed to remove the hiss on the 302usb mixer.
good review , i got some questions.
Is the behringer mixer any good for guitar recording with reaper?
Did you try to adjust the eq or gain to reduce the noise of 302usb?
I've been looking for a good review on BM800 + 302usb, this is the best so far! Thank you, sir!
I also have Focusrite 2i2 gen 3 and PC-K200, but it's not very good, do you have a PJ for me to sing for fun, thanks
Which mic have you used in testing?
Does one really need mixer now days? DAWs have EQs built in and even if they don't you can download them for free.
2i2 is for me and 302 when with friends :-)
Can you suggest best near field speakers for a home studio?
You've proven the value if not necessity of the ungainly pop filter since, unlike another comparison of interfaces, I'm not hearing pops (a foam cover reduces but doesn't eliminate the unwanted utterances). This helps since I have both units (though I'm left wondering how well the U-Phoria holds up in this company). As for painting? Only if you're content to resell your old model for 4 bits.
after watching this i got myself a scarlett soso. can you suggest me a good budget condenser mic? btw very good review
Look on sweetwater.com they always have lots of new deals. And you can purchase items on a 3 month payment plan. I just recently got the scarlett 2i2, mic stand, and Akg c214 microphone package for 499.99. I didn't answer your question, but i'd check out the site.
I prefer the 302 (I bought it because of your review) because it has the XLR facing up, and it works with my setup.
TDPEquinox Really? I will have to take a look at mine, maybe I got a faulty unit, I will take a look at that.
considering I got a 302usb for $30 on eBay, I consider it a good deal
What was your recording setup during the shoot of this video?
+Tanvir Ahmed From memory I was using the Audio Technica AT2020 mic into the Scarlett 2i2 for audio. For video I was using the Canon 60D and Sigma 17-70mm.
+Aidan Fryer Another question,Is AT2020 suitable for recording songs with high notes?
+Aidan Fryer Another question,Is AT2020 suitable for recording songs with high notes?
what microphone you are using?
the 302 seems to sacrifice a lot of things for the USB component, being the same price as the 802, i'd be very interested in an recording comparison of the 802 and the 2i2
If I want to record a Guitar (Using a pedal-board that already gives me a lot of gain so I do not need to use the ones in the Scarlett nor the ones in the Behringer) with both interfaces I would get the same audio quality?
I enjoyed the smashed monitor as a background for the outdoor display of the products
You are like 80% unfairly favorable to the 2i2
I have the 2i2. Awsome!
Please do not paint it!!!!!!!!!
2i2 (gen1) might have exterior durability but not on the inside. the input preamp (both of them) gets nosier and nosier overtime. ive been using it for 3/4 years now. at least with $50 behringer you not gonna get disapointed like i am now with scarlet 2i2. you will consider it as an upgrade anyway.
how about the individual channels while recording? does the 302 also read all the input channels as individual channel on recording
Can I get sound from my PC + TV at the same time, while sending my XLR mic to my PC? Hope you could answer this question. Nice review btw!
Thanks for the answer :) so do both basically work with any dynamic/condenser microphones?
Necronyx Yes, they both should work with most all microphones, it will just vary in performance with higher end mics.
Thank you so much :)
You can drive speakers with the 302 and it has an extra input.
Does the Behringer Q1202 have the same noise issue?
Individual level controls for highs and lows? What is that? I think sound quality is the most important thing. All kinds of knobs and sliders are not valuable if the sound is not up to snuff. "HISS"!!!!! Noticeable hiss is not acceptable these days. Thanks for a well done video. You speak clearly and the picture is good. You obviously prepared it properly and edited very well. Keep them coming. No complaints. If I comment it is because I think it's worth my time based on the big effort you put in.
How hard is it to power off and back on again?
Can you tell me the exact levels you had the 302 at ?
I'm trying to decide between a budget mixer and an interface so that I can get enough gain for my podmic, which is a dynamic mic. Any suggestions?
Video starts at 9:30
what job does 2i2 and behringer does?
hi, what do you recommend for me? i want to create a small home studio, which one is more preferable? xenxy qu 50 mixer or focusrite you show in this vidio.?
I ordered xenyx behringer 302
Hi, Aydan, very nice review. I have the two devices and has very illustrative. I want to know how I can rip my vinils with one of these. Sorry for my bad english and best regards from Montevideo.
can i plug my guitar to xenyx 302 so i can record to my computer?
For usb302 If you put the mic volume all the way up it makes a lot of hiss put the volume knobe at 60 degree and gain at 90 even if you put gain all the way up it may start clipping but it wont make any noise unless and until your mic level is less.......thats what i notice with my interface.....its weired......
How many volts of phantom power does the 302 have?
+Chilean Magician It provides 15V of power over USB.
Hello.. Can i input guitar in 302usb.. Because i want to record guitar in pc.
Am I able with Scarlett to record both microphone and audio coming from my PC? With Xenyx 302 audio is coming through USB so I can do that. Is it the same with Scarlett ? Also will I be able to change gain for audio coming form PC in Scarlett separately from microphone ?
I was wondering this aswell.
Pelo cabo USB não será possível fazer com som Vindo do PC, a 302 sim, deverá trazer áudio analógico por saída P2 da CPU fazer chegar no Foscurite.
I've got a problem with my Xenyx 302 usb. When I record sound in Audacity, everything is okay. When I start to talk on TS3 or Skype, every louder spoken word is a 'coupling'? So that means I started to be iDubzz when I don't want to. Any ideas what should I do?
Widzę, że nie tylko ja interesuję się tym tematem xd
Hahah :D
Use headphones.
Do i need an interface if i buy this one?
what mic was you using in this video?
+Lukman Hakim I was using an Audiotechnica AT2020 XLR mic.

0:43 that one guy at the park who does this
how many voltz does the 302usb
I have behringer 302 usb interface is this compatible with AKG P120 condenser microphone ?
Kindly help Brother
+Aidan Fryer That's exactly what I wanted to hear, check out my channel if you get a minute, thanks for your help!
+Anmar AJ No problem, glad I could help! I also had a quick look at your channel, it looks pretty good, you have some cool content on it, keep it up!
so who wins??
I have Xenyx 302usb, It's very bad w/ constant white noise listen carefully at 09:42
Solom Boda sorry i dont understand the video, i dont speak english, so the winner is the focusrite, thanks bro
YOU'RE CLIPPING!
Probably should turn the gain down a little.
Alpha yaaa he is sucks. he should increase the gain, not the volume till the maximum. if he want to compare the audio quality. he should use same dynamic mic and 2i2 phantom power must be turn off. then It will be fair
what is a mixer and audio interface?
+Prashanth Beats They are both very similar, just a mixer has level controls, and the 2i2 can also run headphones, instruments and speakers through it. They both power microphones, and act as a pre-amp and the device which carries the signal to your PC.
La comparación correcta es entre Behringer U-Phoria 202HD (204HD) y la Scarlett 2i2
Thanks for the input Aidan...
the main outs of the 302 are disabled when headphones are plugged in? i cant see that.
Yeah idk why he said that, I can monitor w my speakers and my headphones at the same time
the behringer works better with dinamyc mics
you should have tried one
Can you elaborate? I was thinking of buying a Focusrite to replace my xenyx 302 because of noise for my dynamic mic.
***** the Q802usb Xenyx seems to be better for condenser mics, they have the 48v phantom power, i can't tell on practice because i do not have one, but the reviews seems better.
Focusrite is way better... but it all depends on your preference. theres no right or wrong. you get what you pay for.
yes
focusrite 2i2 ,I am using it for recording in USB otg interface in smule (I sing - karaoke) for android. but when I use my monitoring headphone, I get a statter or lag at hearing the background while I karaoke, what should I do?
9:10 scary scarlet bomba
What are those monitors name man
focusrite = "more elegant", 302 can usb speakers too, I guess is whats MAIN MIX is for, oh, and you can turn down the gain and lv switches from behringer mic, they were made to control that gain lv putting red... definitely a "not biased" video...
one more thing, 2i2 comes with lot of focusrite software which is a must have.
There's really a serious rumble going on below 80hz in this video, quite disturbing in my headphones. You should cut everything below 80hz next time. Just an advice...
Isn't there anyway I could connect Studio Monitors to the 302 ? Using RCA ?
To plug in your monitors you will need to get a cable to run your monitors to the RCA, then you plug it into the 'Output' on the top of the mixer under 'main mix''.
can you get rid of the hissing somehow?
you can use a program called audacity for a feature called noise removal.
how many volts of phantom power does the 302 have
15V, more than enough for nearly all consumer grade microphones, from 15V to 48V there is as little as 2-3dB difference in the gain in most microphones, voltage just adds more sensibility.
Behringer Xenyx 302USB mixture zero latency audio?
Hey man does the 302 work with mac
I know this reply is late but I have a 302 hooked up to my iMac and I really like it.
very well put together video review!
wait for the price of the 2i2 you can buy a much better mixer than the interface
Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is winner? I don't understand English.
