    Awesome video! I'm looking to get a dynamic mic and pair it with this mixer. What is the difference between this and the Behringer UMC22? Will this be one better? I can get this one for 50$ whereas the UMC22 is maybe double the price...

    • @JoeJacksonJr
      @JoeJacksonJr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      UMC22 does not have a compressor or EQ. It does however have the full 48v phantom power. The Q502USB mixer only has 15volts phantom power. But thats only a concern for Condenser mics. Many great mics like the AT2035 I use a lot only needs 12v PP so its a no big deal. A dynamic mic however does not have a phantom power requirement. So if you plan to use Dynamic mics, then this is a way way better option for you.

    this is a phenomenal mixer for zoom calls/podcasts. As long as you select "original audio" in the zoom settings, you are getting a clear signal from the mic to zoom.

    Hi Joe, thanks for the video, do you think this mixer is compatible with the last Mac OS versions like Monterey?

  • @adityabali1939
    @adityabali1939 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Joe, I am amazed you do not have more subs your content is fantastic.
    I am looking to get this mixer for band rehearsal and recording rehearsal demos only. We are a 4 piece band and I would like to use this mixer in the following routing:
    1) Vocal mic--> XLR input (channel 1)
    2) Guitar--> stereo input (channel 2-3)
    3) Bass guitar-->stereo input (channel 4-5)
    4) KLON/MOOG modulator--> RCA stereo input
    I am planning to send the phones output from this mixer to the drummer, and the main L+R output of this mixer into a 4 output LD headphone Amp for individual monitoring for guitar player, bass player, vocalist. My question is, will the main output and the phones output of this mixer work simultaneously with them receiving all inputs?

    Great review. I have had this mixer for a while now and there is white noise coming in on my recordings and yours sounds great. Could there be something wrong with my mixer or is there anything that I should change? Like any settings in Windows? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    • @JoeJacksonJr
      @JoeJacksonJr  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It could be your mic requires a lot of gain, if your getting a lot of white noise you could be driving the pre amps to high. Most pre amps are really clean up to around %75-%80 percent max gain. From there you will get more preamp noise. Mics that require a lot of gain like the Shure SM7B are going to end up with more white noise. Also if you dont have enough gain and are brining up the volume in post, you can be also bringing up the natural noise from the electronics. I recommend to have your gain on your mixer set so when you record your audio its hitting around -12db before any editing is done.. Hope this helps.

    I’m confused since I’m very new to mics and mixers, so with this interface when the phantom power button is on it’ll give 48V to the mic right? or is that phantom power button only for the 15V that you talked about? also since you were recording just off of the 15V does it create a lot more self noise when 48V is on? Thanks for any help on this :)

    I have to agree, love this mixer! I have a different version, the xenyx502, non usb. I use a UCA200 audio interface with it. I do a livestream and during it, I sometimes play audio/video from youtube and other video hosting platforms. I have not been able to turn the sound down from those video platforms. The audio from those videos are WAY louder than my voice going through my microphone. I'm sure it's staring me in the face, but I'm not seeing how to lower that volume. Is there a way to turn the volume down coming from the computer without turning down the audio levels of my voice going through the microphone? I know my version is slightly different from yours so maybe you don't know, but I figured I'd ask anyway.

    I bought it to mix audio from two different computer systems. The audio interface I use for my voiceover is a Universal Audio Apollo Twin, and I wanted the ability to record my voice over and camera together independent from my gameplay audio. I had both the gameplay audio, and the voiceover sounding excellent, but needed a way to monitor them together while recording each on independent computers. This mixer was basically used as a sub mix of two different audio signals being recorded simultaneously. It worked great! There is indiscernible loss in audio quality compared to when I monitor both sources independently. Also great for those whose audio needs don’t require a massive board.

  • @TheRealHucasys

    I've had this mixer for...25 years? I'm guessing the 16bit issue is probably for when they were first launched, of course they could have upgraded it since it's still in production. Having said that, this is the first mixer I ever bought and in fact I still use it for small events where I have just 1 or 2 mics going to PA's or an amp. At my home studio I still use it for one vocal mic (then into a Presonus AR16 mixer/interface) because, yes, the EQ and compressor work super well. The phantom 15V is a con for condenser mics (can be) but other than that, for the price and the amount of years I've had it and the beating it has endured (nothings has broken, nor the pots nor the plastic sides) it's a darn good product. I definitely recommend this for beginners, even as a small interface. Nice video, cheers.

    I'm going to buy a rode podmic. I thought that behringer would be a nice mixer, especially with a Fethead preamp. What do you think about Podmic+behringer+fethead? Or there will be a lot of background noise, because many people speak about that problem on behringer. Thank you in advance

    • @JoeJacksonJr
      @JoeJacksonJr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly I run a sE V7 and it has similar sensitivity to the Pod Mic. I am running about 80% gain and its crystal clear. Only thing you can hear is ambient room noise at around -60 db.. The preamps in these littel mixers is actually very good. Way better then people give them credit for. I actually got the mixer because my Scarlett 2i2 1st gen didnt have enough gain to push my sE V7 mic without having a ton of preamp noise.. This mixers preamps are much much cleaner and more powerful then my 2i2. That said, a FetHead and a Cloud Lifter both need a minimum of 24volts of phantom power. This mixer only provides 15v. As per contacting Triton Audio they confirmed that 15v was not enough to run the Fet Head. Now the Q802USB does have full 48v phantom power. But IMHO you will not need a Fethead or CloudLifter. Now if you plan to get a Shure SM7b, then get the Q802USB and a Fethead. Hope this helps.

    Is it safe to assume that ANY dynamic mics will work with this mixer? Or do I have to have a condenser mic that is powered 15v below?
    Also, in case I mistakenly purchased a condenser mic with a 48v, does that mean that I would have to buy a Phantom power for the whole thing to work really good? (Btw, I know that the condenser mic will still work even if it only has 15v, but I guess the quality of the sound is not that great?)

    Great review, mate... did anyone try the Q502USB with an AKG Perception 220 condenser mic? I can't seem to find the "real" phantom power voltage requirement for this microphone. Thanks! *EDIT* it appears to require very close to 48V, so it should not work.

    Hello, thanks for the video review very helpful. I just got mine set up, and I honestly don't understand what's going on to my headphone monitoring. I cannot just hear the output from my headphones without hearing the Speaker Main out. can it be just my mixer? or is this somehow not possible with this mixer? I have some Beyer Dynamics DT 770 Pro 120 ohms, and I also tried it using 3 other headphones. Thanks for your input if possible!

    • @dkamhaji
      @dkamhaji 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Joe, Thanks for replying. But for me there is there is no way to have the main mix volume up and cut the sound from going out to my speakers. I tried your suggestion and every other way possible. I tried it with my speakers connected to the Main Mix out or even to the rca out. If I disconnect my speakers and have the main mix volume up than I do hear it fine through my headphones. another note. I do not have the usb cable connected. just using my analog set up for now. Is this a limitation of this unit somehow? Its such a basic feature that I would be so surprised if this is the case. I mean it doesn't have a power switch so I can see they are cutting corners. If you can really verify for me that you can listen to the phones while having main mix cut off from the speakers..then perhaps something may be funky with my brand new unit. thanks mate!

      @@dkamhaji Danny, Joe's talking about the two black buttons sitting to the left of the little lights. He explains their use in the video, from 5:35 onwards. The upper black button (TO PHONES) needs to be up, the lower black button (TO MAIN MIX) needs to be down. Your speakers should be connected to MAIN OUT, and your headphones plugged in to PHONES.

I have the input from the guitar going into the mic and then the usb into my pc from the pc back to the xenyx and using the phones out to get the simulator tone. If I wanted to hook it to the speakers I have would I get the signal from the USB only out of the lineouts L and R if thats what I wanted? Thank You!

      16bit 48kHz. But honestly I have had no issues what so ever and no one would ever notice I was using 16bit. I do record the audio files as 24bit though to ensure there is no files degradation during post processing.

    My Scarlet 3rd gen pushes my condenser mic way better than the Q502 USB, It adds a LOT of noise when I have to turn the gain up on the Q502. I also have both, And the Q502 only does 16bit 44 audio, my scarlet is more clear at 24 bit. but I guess your saying you don't hear a difference, because you either don't hear it, or don't care. Don't get me wrong im not saying the q502 is garbage, it does work well, it just has to much noise for my Condenser. Edit: P.S. most of what Im talking about is Live streaming, not recorded audio, because with the Scarlett I have to do less post processing with the exception of boosting slightly

    • @JoeJacksonJr
      @JoeJacksonJr  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The gain on the 3rd gen has been greatly improved. As I stated in the video I have a 1st gen model of the 2i2. Also BTW your 2i2 should be able to do 16bit 48kHz. I never said the Q502 was better then any particular recent audio interfaces, but for the value and what you get out of it. It is a very compelling option. As far as noise, my unit actually has clean pre-amps. Perhaps your model doesnt. Now I am not claiming this as "based on what I can hear". I am stating this based on charts and actual testing in software. As far as "dont care", that is actually false as I am very particular about my audio. And as far as being able to tell 16bit vs 24bit audio in your live stream. I call BS on this as you clearly have no understanding that the AAC audio OBS is transmitting in IS ACTUALLY IN 16BIT..

    • @PatricksDIY
      @PatricksDIY 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JoeJacksonJr You are a very defensive person. You can call "BS" or whatever you want, but I have my professional opinion on what I like, and how I feel it sounds. I mistyped 44, meant to type 48. You really shouldn't make videos if you are wanting all the comments to agree with what your saying, because your video is just that, an opinion, such as mine. You are leading people down the wrong road saying that the phantom power supplied in the Q502 is sufficient, it is NOT, it will not push my SM7B and barely pushes my Nt1. Working in a sound studio, I have people wanting stuff tested all the time ( its like being the family computer geek that everyone goes to). Also, when you go from 16bit to 24 bit there is a HUGE difference, Unless someone is just needing this to "play with" the recording quality is TERRIBLE with the q502. when I record or stream my audio at 24bit 192000 from the universal audio arrow, or my Focusrite 18i20 and occasionally on the 2i2 its a WORLD of a difference. So you should ensure people know that when you are saying the q502 is "good" that it would only be good for beginners on cheap mics that may not care about the noise floor. I was not "calling you out" or bashing you by any means, I wanted to make sure that people had information to help them decide based on their needs. As for Streaming I never said this was though OBS, I Use Sam Broadcaster Software, Since I do this for a living, I try to use the best I can. Thank You.

      You would likely want the 802 so you can at least have 2 XLR mic inputs.. But generally most people with a small bad would want at least a 10 channel mixer for the most flexibility.

    How do you know if your mic needs phantom power?

    • @JoeJacksonJr
      @JoeJacksonJr  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Condenser mics require phantom power. Dynamics normally work with just the passive power. But when you buy the mic, it will tell you on the box as some condenser mics dont require a full 48 volts. The AT2035 and AT875r mic I have for example only require 12 volts. But yea its always mentioned on the product specs.

      @@websitesthatneedanem safer to plug the mic in without phantom power and if nothing happens, then trying phantom power. Some devices can tolerate it, others may react in not so great ways if they aren't rated for phantom power but you send it anyway.
