      Overall I’m very pleased with the images the camera produces. There are some issues in the operation that, to me, are minor and I believe are being worked on for the next firmware release. It’s funny, the video I’m working on is a partial “review” but I’d prefer to do something more stylistic (like your work) than just a run of the mill camera review. Trying to find balance between what needs to be in a review vs what I want to do instead is a challenge because I’m already happy with the camera but want to make sure to address concerns others might have, too. Anyway, it’s been fun so far.

      The lighting and grade for the Bladerunner sequence was on point, I also like the location too. I dunno about how to make tech/review videos too much, I'd be happy making whacked out art videos all the time....If David Lynch vlogged, lol...Anyways man, great stuff, really dig the vibes.

    Hello, I'm from Poland, I have terra 4K. I have a problem with red and black vertical stripes in recordings, they show up mainly in bright areas of the image, in proress 422HQ they appear on the left side, and in DNG there is only one bar on the right. Does anyone know what this could be? I did black calibrations and then the same.

      Hi Nick - for this video most of the "Bladerunner" stuff was shot on a Canon L 24-70 zoom lens. Most of the b-roll stuff at the end was shot on Leica R primes from the 70s that I had converted to EF mount. all was shot using the KineHancer which increases the field of view of the Terra to 1.3x, which is about halfway between S35 and Full-Frame field of view

    Quick Question: Would you get the Terra 4K or Terra 6K? Not doing too much run and gun but will have plenty of low light narrative situations in the future. I ask because I have the opportunity to buy both but want the most bang for the buck.
    Thanks!

    • @RaafiRivero
      @RaafiRivero  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Terra 4K, no doubt. The T6k has really bad rolling shutter. And you can always get the KineHancer to increase the field of view to match S35 later. Also Terra 4K has better low light sensitivity.

    • @jugjivan
      @jugjivan 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Trust me its not worth it. They work well but are DSLR quality. GH5 is a cheaper and better option. A lot of the ones shipped to Canada have broken down within a few months. The good part is that Kinefinity is fast as getting in touch and within a couple weeks of receiving the unit back in China they'll replace the whole unit for free. Arri Alexa mini 4.6K is better cine camera option in the same price range for Canadians.

    • @RaafiRivero
      @RaafiRivero  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi John - I prefer the Terra4k. The 6k does have a bigger sensor but the rolling shutter is pretty bad on that camera. If you use the Kinehancer (which is similar to a speed booster) and EF lenses on the Terra4k then your sensor size is effectively larger than the Terra6k.

    • @RaafiRivero
      @RaafiRivero  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah but it's not advisable. You need precision screw drivers and stuff like that. the KineBack isn't designed to be taken on and off like a battery. That said, with the side grip you can use Sony-style batteries instead of V-locks on the back of the KineBack. That and taking off the bottom plate makes the camera lighter. Not quite as light as my 5D but much more suitable for throwing in your backpack like a DSLR.

    Great Cinematic great shots, but still, there is something about the image quality of this camera which sometimes seems more like a DSLR than a cinema camera. I am really not sure about that cause the specs of the Terra Cameras are awesome for this price range. With how many fps did you shoot and what prores or raw settings did you use? I am considering buying one but I am not convinced yet. There seems to be a shortage of information on workflow and color science. So please keep up the good work. So far ,I think your footage is one of the best out there.

    • @Yeeeeaaaanoooo
      @Yeeeeaaaanoooo 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Main thing I noticed that sets it apart from a DSLR for me was the dynamic range, color, motion cadence (might be the largest for me), and sharpness. But I'm with you, hoping to see much more footage from this soon

    • @louisamaden2492
      @louisamaden2492 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Charles Coleman I mean, from a spec point of view you can compare the Terra with Red, Arri ,Blackmagic ect. But when I look at the footage out there, I can't find a solid production case . Not even Kinefinity can provide breathtaking images like we are used to have when a new cinema camera comes out. So right now, nobody knows what this camera is really capable of. And this footage here is pointing in the right direction. But as he said, the cinematic look is a combination of set designe, camera motion, light ect...that's why he could have filmed the same scene with a DSLR Camera and probably get the same results. This is the feeling I have when I look at this footage because of the image quality. In this case I think it would make sense to compare this camera with Red, Arri and Blackmagic.

    • @Wolfie99
      @Wolfie99 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes but compare the image out of this to say the new Eva1. They're totally different in terms of how the image looks. This looks more organic whilst the Eva1 looks more Video'esque or Broadcast style to my eye. There's no right or wrong though. Ultimately it's all down to personal taste of course and what works for one person may not work for the other. Personally, I love this camera's image and to my mind comparable to Red at a fraction of the cost. Quite a lot of bang for the buck all being considered.

      Thanks. Re DSLR-looking: Hmm, I've shot on a 5D mk2 for years and this looks nothing like it to me. haven't shot the newer Sonys though. I think what's causing you to say that is that most of the "bladerunner"-style shots were shot on a Canon 24-70mm L lens. Most of the b-roll shots at the end, however, were shot on my Leica R primes. Those feel very organic and cinematic to me. The BladeRunner stuff does, too, but the shot at 2:29, for instance, "feels" like that Canon lens and reminds me of DSLR stuff a little bit. That said, the images from the camera speak for themselves. All of the "bladrunner" stuff was 23.976ps ProRes HQ (Raw won't be enabled on the 4k model until an upcoming firmware update this Spring). Of the b-roll at the end, the first two shots of the woman were 2k 240fps (one was sped up to 200% in the edit). The rest were probably 23.976fps ProRes HQ. Also, very few of the shots had any color correction applied to them beyond a LUT. Either the KineNeutral LUT that comes with the camera or the KineREALColor LUT which I found online and is a free download.

    @voradorlinux 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Raafi, great stuff! Quick question, if you are using the KineMON, are you getting a significant lag on your live view? Something around 1/3 or 1/2 of a second delay? Mine is unbearable and makes pulling focus on tele moving objects not reliable. I finally got my camera but unfortunately there is a significant video noise issue even with no lens and KineEnhancer cap on... I can see in the Histogram there is noise as with the cap on there should be only one thin bar at the very left of the graph. Also the waveform shows there is something rather than just "black". I emailed the guys at Kinefinity with sample footage as I definitely need this resolved asap. Other issues but not that major is the KineMON has a debris between the LCD and the LCD Lens, was kind of hoping it was beneath the lens peel off protective plastic but it wasn't 😓. Another issue, happened once, the Terra OS just froze, no controls worked. Hope that's the only time it gets to do that thing as it is not encouraging! Sucks after all the wait to get the one camera that has all the quality issues 😓

    • @RaafiRivero
      @RaafiRivero  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow. I haven't had all of those issues. I do have a slight lag to the monitor - the guys on the facebook group measured it ~300ms. Don't have the noise issue or the LCD debris. what ISO's are you getting the noise at. I think there's more FPN when you're not shooting at base ISOs, though I have gone up and down the scale and haven't seen significant issues. Which firmware are you on? I emailed the KineTeam with an issue I had earlier and they sent a link to download a newer firmware. I think I'm on 12.25 now. Have they responded?

    • @voradorlinux
      @voradorlinux 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tell me about it... I'm disheartened 💔... But in all honesty, I think this is an opportunity for Kinefinity to show the world how they'll support their customers in case of issues, so in the other hand I'm also optimistic they'll respond swiftly. My KineOS is 5.2(25) so I think I have the latest (hope so as I just received it 2 days ago 😜). It does it in all ISO settings, obviously the lower the setting the lower the noise, but you shouldn't get any noise at Factory Settings with the KineEnhancer cap on at all! Tell you what it feels like (putting my Engineer hat on), it is like my camera is in permanent gain boost mode. If I were going to say seems like when the cam was being fine tuned something got fat fingered in the setting. I'll be resetting to factory settings once more, remove the lens, put the KineEnhancer cap on, and shoot a 5 secs clip and upload it to google drive and share with you. By the way, I tried the same with my BMPCC and the "cap on" clip on the BMPCC is black as a cat in the night in both ProRes and DNG. You can measure the RGB in Resolve and gives you consistent (same RGB number) readings across the screen whilst the TERRA clip ranges from RGB 22 to 28 depending on where the crosshair is (noise). Hope they' will respond soon, it is now Monday 7:36 AM here in Asia, let's see!

      Hi, do you have the 4k or the 6k? Just wondering since I'm in the market for the 4k.

    • @voradorlinux
      @voradorlinux 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      4K... Just replied to your other comment... Regarding the noise issue I mentioned above, I think it is more of a prores thing than anything as I'm used to film RAW, I guess I'll have to wait until the end of Q1 to see if my "concerns" can be laid to rest. I love the camera but there are a few "rough" edges that I'm sure the KineTeam will polish in future Firmware releases. There is one issue though that I would like to troubleshoot with Raafi and see if it is repeatable, if so then we could feedback Kinefinity for improvement. My batteries haven't arrived yet and I only have 1 OEM Sony B-U30 that lasts only 30 to 45 mins as it has less W-Hr than the Kinefinity version. I'll try to get out tomorrow and hopefully there is good weather in HK... Cheers!

      Still dig it. I've shot on three different Kinefinity cameras since the pandemic started: the Terra4k, Mavo S35, and Mavo LF. The Terra's my first so I'll always have a soft spot for it. Also the KineHancer field of view - about halfway between S35 and Full Frame is a great sweet spot for stills lenses. You have a decent chance on pulling focus but the field of view is a bit more forgiving than the S35 crop. I keep the KineHancer EF mount on my Terra.

      @@RaafiRivero Thank you for the quick reply. It really seems like a dream camera to upgrade to from the GH5 - not sure why I haven't heard more about it

      @@HamiltonWard they get a little press on No Film School and NewsShooter, but I think not enough people have taken the leap to buying one so Kinefinity cameras always feels like a hidden little club, which is fun too.
