In the end, the mother was forced to return after a crime incident involving the death of one child happened (This is probably the inspiration for why the sister's staged a kidnaping, and the house the children in this game lived in is similar to the living condition of the Children on the Sugamo case, which is full of trash bag and convenient store food because they can't cook/afford anything else) And the worst part of the story is, even after the Mother's neglect has been brought to light, she got off with only some probation and still got the custody of the remaining children. omg my moment. in zim most people don't have or use a dryer (it's a very american thing to me). generally you hang it on a washing line/a rack indoors/put it out on a covered deck if you have one.
I was scrolling through the comments just so I could find a comment like this! Now I know all about drying clothes in Zimbabwe and can go to sleep peacefully haha. Dryer machines also feel very American to me to, although I do know someone personally who has it at home (cheers from Hungary).
@@csongorkakuk5871 I'm from Norway, and everyone had dryers even in the 80s, but we still hang our clothes to dry! Dryers are mainly used for towels and things of that nature, because most clothes in Europe have a low or no tumble-dry symbol on the label. So that makes me wonder if American clothes don't use that label, or if everyone just ignores it and wears out their clothes a lot faster.
@@IsabelPretty As an Aussie Pakistani, can confirm! We hang out our laundry in both Australia and Pakistan. I've only used a dryer in uni, and even then it didn't feel worth the $3 it cost lol.
YESSS Love the every horror game you play but esp CA. Also RE: drying clothes - drying clothes on a rack or a line is actually really common basically everywhere but the States. Here in Europe, it's common to have a rack though folks have dryers too. In Nigeria, we also have a line.
I particularly liked this game from Chilla's. Their other games are great, but this one's story and context around is disturbing. The fact that children out there experience similar situations like Renya and his sis.
I am in China, and Chinese usually hang up their clothes to dry. Now i have become accustomed to doing the same becuase i have literally never seen a dryer XD
Here in Norway we also hang our clothes to dry. In the 70's dryers did start to slowly get introduced, but its still very normal to just have a washing machine and then hang clothes to dry. We never had a dryer growing up, and now at 32, I still dont have one.
about washer dryers.. i'm originally American, but have been living in the Canary Islands close to a decade. Here, off the Morroccan shore, it's summer year round and the people have a very simple "beach is life" mentality and you just don't come across materialism. You CAN find normal things like dryers here.. but it's just not customary and with the constant nice beachfront wind, I decided not to get one, either (despite having one all my life in the US). It's actually nice, here, all condos come with their own roof decks for hanging your clothes.. it's very "trust your neighbour" (we have a front apt key so only our 8 residents can get in). On that note, when you hang stuff to dry, you don't have to do it twice for it to not become wrinkly.. you just have to hang it to dry once properly. The idea of "putting it on a treadmill" sounded so funny to me b/c to have a treadmill but not a dryer i'm sure is pretty uncommon, but i understand the sentiment. As far as why i like it.. it gives me a more structured list of things to do that i think are healthy as someone in their late 20s with no kids, and for some reason i always feel like they smell better compared to when thrown in a dryer.. i'm not sure why. the detergent smell is much more prevalent for.a "fresh cotton" smell. Just my observation as soneone who's lived through both life styles. xoxo
She talks about him in the third person because there isn't a way to say "you" in japanese that isn't like rudeness! people just use the person's name for "you"! So if it's a more literal translation it can sound clunky like that in English! A better translation would just be "I knew you would also feel that way" but that's alright!
The human remains in the attic are the man's dead mother. That's also why he screamed and killed Renya's mom. It's cause he was once again being screamed at by a horrible parent.
So to clear up some confusion, Sarao was abused as a kid by his mother, presumably because he resembled his father who abandoned them and his mother took it out on him, though she regretted it it didn't come soon fast enough and he ended up killing his mom. He was trying to help, but the body in the attic was meant to show that for all of his good intentions he was unstable due to his childhood and while he probably would never hurt the kids and mean it, they were not safe with him.
Some will say its inspired by a real life case, but it does have some stark differences to the real case, but its an interesting and horrible story. The movie Nobody Knows closer tells the story and is both a really good movie and pretty heartbreaking, but even that makes the story less dark than the actual story. Im sure others have mentioned the real case but just incase they never mentioned the movie i thought it was worth mentioning
OH MY GOOOD i was wondering if you were going to play it! i know you mentioned you were going to do it in october for horror games month but then after that you didn't mention it in the shareholder meetings so i thought it wasn't up your alley 🥺 i've been rewatching your other chilla's videos recently so this is perfect timing! thank you for the video, i'm excited to watch! 💙
Yes I love seeing some dryer discourse in the comments. It seems to be an American thing to primarily use dryers. In Japan, dryers are uncommon. It's washlines or indoor racks near vents/windows/heater, especially if you live in apartments with limited spaces for bulky appliances. I've visited twice and only saw dryers in laundromats or communal spaces. In SE Asia, it's washlines (it's sun/rain where I grew up). In Aussie and NZ, it's also mostly washlines. Some houses have dryers but it's just for winter or rainy season. The summer sun is aggressive enough down here lol. For less wrinkles, I just grab the shoulder part and whip the wet clothes up and down before hanging to dry. No treadmills needed lol.
Okay idk about Japan, but what you hang the clothes on kinda looks like something we have here in Finland, generally known as a "towel dryer". It's a rack made of pipes attached to the wall, which your hot water runs through, it keeps a stock of hot water for showers, heats the bathroom and you can use it to dry towels, cleaning cloths etc. It's usually not quite that big and I wouldn't use it to hang clothes (it's a bit hot for them since the water is ~60c) but that kinda reminded me of it. We do have tumble dryers, but not everyone has them (I don't). It is very common to just hang clothes to dry (also, a lot of clothes are hang dry only! tumbling wears clothes down faster in general)
10:40 in Ukraine dryers are avaliable but most people don't use them? some people for sure have them but most just don't care to get one lol. it's very common to just hang your clothes out on the balcony to dry, or on one of those folding drying rack things
Same here in Germany. I wouldn’t wanna say that “most” don’t use them, but I personally know more people that don’t have one than people that do. And the ones that do only use it in the winter or on rainy days. Edit: I typed this comment a few seconds before John asked specifically for Ukraine😂 I thought this was just general Dryer related banter
Happy to see you finally get around to this! I liked this one. Hope you get around to the bathhouse remake! Fair enough if you choose to pass on Shinkansen 0. Very excited for FTF EP 5. Hope you get around to playing it! You’ll have fun with it
This is one of my favorite Chilla's Art games, I think! The sequence of the kids playing hide and seek in the long grass and trying to figure out how to deal with the adult stranger insisting on joining them and creeping them out stood out to me as really eerie and had some shots that had me thinking "ooh, I could see this in a suspenseful horror movie." The concept of a little elementary school kid having to live with his abusive mom while relying only on his (middle school age?) sister, them both going missing, and the poor kid keeping quiet about it and still going to school, talking to friends, and doing his homework while worrying about feeding himself and his pets was so sad. Him and his friend talking about both his family members being missing and just awkwardly talking about it before going on with their day felt like such an innocent kid thing, like the friend can't process how alarming it is (because Renya is her friend as ns he seems fine, so he doesn't need help) and that she needs to tell her mom and poor Renya is probably scared of adults or somehow missing the chance for his sister to come home :(
Great video as always! I will say, though, re the body in the attic, I think the character didn't tell anyone about it because you never went and looked at it on your second run after you got caught-- you never technically saw it in your successful run. There was probably a different ending if you had.
One time my parent's cat reacted very odd a whole minute before the doorbell rang. I was relaxing in bed and suddenly I see the cat sneaking unusually slow into my room. It really confused me and my first thought was that he might see something I couldn't see, like a bug or maybe just some item that might look strange to him. I started to talk to him and that made him stop and positions himself in a crouch, staring at me. Suddenly the doorbell rang and he freaked out. It made me realize that he must've sensed a stranger, because when I opened the door it was a maintenance guy that was asking every tenant if they had any problems with their radiators. So, I would say that it depends on the individual cat on how they would react. All though, I'm pretty sure that every cat will freak out if they see a person in a clown mask xD.
dude, funny you had a scarring moment with a puppet rendition of classical Tchaikovsky tunes because i had a peter and the wolf video tape our music teacher showed us in the 3rd grade that scarred me because of how weird it looked, the puppets in particular. i also love it because it's nostalgic, so not scarring as much as yours but it has a weird combination of scar and fondness. i haven't been able to find the exact one after all these years but i don't think i would even recognize it. i just know remember the feeling attached to it as a kid. it was one of the earliest "adult" memories i had, as in i appreciated it even as a class clown that i was. it was one of those things i noticed if that makes sense. most kids don't absorb things in the way adults do, but it felt like an adult appreciation.
i love chilla's art games but I always get nervous there is grudge jumpscare or something with grudge. ju-on the grudge scare me as kid and these old japanese houses reminds me from that movie :D
10:39 glad you asked! in Ukraine it's also common to dry clothes like this. we usually have clotheslines above the bathtub, on the balcony or in the backyard. my family's washing machine has a dryer setting but the clothes are still pretty damp, so a clothesline is a must. also it's important to avoid saying "the Ukraine", as Ukraine has been an independent country since 1991.
I wanted to also second - it can be considered offensive to say "the" before Ukraine, so saying just Ukraine is important. For drying, in a lot of European countries in general we only have washers and then hang our clothes to dry, unless you live in a house with a large family and absolutely need a dryer (or if in the UK, where you'd maybe have a washer-dryer combo which dries to an acceptable dampness where you then hang to fully dry).
16:54 Or a lady with a stroller whips around a corner giving you a myocardial infarction ...and it's funny every single time, John. 😁 [edit] 26:50 Dang... Even in a Chilla Game, you're pulling packs! Pretty funny timing coming on top of your Bluesky posts. Wait a minute... is one of those cards titled "Merperoni"? Like pepperoni - but with extra "Merp"?
If anyone wants to feel sad and depressed, just watch the film "Nobody Knows". It's from the early 00s and is inspired from the true story of a Japanese woman who abandons her several children in an apartment. I think Japanese live action films are usually pretty terrible in terms of quality and acting (and I'm a weeb!) but that movie is a great one.
The body in the attic is the kidnapper's mother. He is saroa(sp?) from the beginning where he kills her with the hammer. Renya and his sister's mother yelling at him and then him killing her is one of the endings showing how he gets triggered into murdering people. Thanks for always entertaining us with your playthroughs John! ❤
Yay! I'm so happy to see a new John + Chillas art let's play. I love the plot twists! I think they should make a game where the plot twist is we (the player) were the killer the whole time but dont find out until nearer the end.
48:14 That blew my mind a little. I'm a programmer, so obviously my view is biased, but I thought people used equations like that all the time. Though it totally makes sense that most people would never need to calculate anything more advanced than a basic + - * /, one at a time.
im always just glad John can provide us with real commmntray with any playthorugh cuz i enjoy thr content, of course the games matter too but you have to hand it to the players who can make it interesting if it may not be the best.
The beginning was the kidnapper and his mother. The body was his mother. He killed her. The letter you read was the kidnapper's mother's letter about her treatment to him being because he looked like his father. In the end, the protagonist's mother yelling at the kidnapper triggered the kidnapper and reminded him of his own mother physically abusing him. Her pushing him made it worse and pushed him over the edge. He killed her in response. The clown may have been the boy rationalizing his sister being missing and putting reason to it with the clown being the culprit. That's my understanding. There is also another ending.
I'd highly recommend Shinkansen 0. As a fan of Observation style game I think it's a better game than the entire Observation Duty series. You physically traverse the train cars looking for anomalies which results in some very good scares at times.
I love all the comments about laundry drying around the world haha I've only stayed in share houses and one airbnb in japan, the sharehouses did have dryers, the airbnb didn't. The airbnb did have clothing lines in the bathroom though, and like a heating fan you could turn on to dry the clothes. In germany it's mixed. Some people have dryers, some just dry them on racks or outside if the sun allows (So like 4 months out of the year lol) There are also apartments where you have to use a dryer because you're not allowed to hang dry your clothes as it could lead to mold. Edit: Also on the 'lock your door' rant, I'm not sure how the doors in japan are (the places I stayed at had door codes), but in germany front doors automatically lock when you close them. You can only open them from inside without a key. I have locked myself out an embarassing amounts of time because of this 😭😭
Hey John! Finally you played this game, I was waiting for a long time. And I like you so much I hope you can get more followers as soon as possible. You are the only gaming TH-camr I watch, I cannot imagine if you do not put videos any more.
Some washing machines have built-in dryers but too expensive. We do have dryers but most of the apartment or house complex doesn't have enough space to leave them. So might as well hang them up, less electricity bills as well.
Living in Japan and they do have dryers but not everyone has them since a dryer takes up space that a lot of people don't have and a combo wash/dryer machine costs too much. Most people I know just like to hang clothes out to dry.
Yes, they do indeed hang their clothes as the norm in Japan. Same with their futons. I do believe some places like businesses or wealthier homes have dryers, but they don't see it as necessary. Sorry for the Japan lesson, I just like to be thorough.
"If only you guys weren't here, I should not have given birth to you..." Oh that's just great... my mother's in this game. I can already tell I'm going to be pissed off.
no John, im guessing it's just an American thing regarding use of dryers! 😅😆. We (in Asia) use dry racks to dry our clothes, or just hang them outside (hence the use of clothes pin so they wont fly away). We only use the dryers when we need our clothes to be dry as soon as possible so we can use them the next day! Also, why spend another sum of money to use dryers when sunlight is free 😂
As someone still learning kanji for my 2nd language, writing it over and over IS my homework. XD Learning it all at once instead of over an entire school life is much harder and less fun...

JOHN!! An early Christmas present for me? I've been waiting for you to play this! ❤ Happy early holidays to you and your beautiful family. Love from Canada 🇨🇦
I'm guessing that body in the attic was the mister's mom, based off the note we read. We can infer his mom raised him in a single room isolated from the outside world, and he ended up growing deranged into adulthood, and eventually snapped and killed her. It might explain why he wanted to play hide and seek with them, as he's mentally still really a child. This is also supported by how he reacts then the kid's mom confronts him, which presumably reminded him of his own mom, causing him to lash out in violence again.
ok so I taught preschool in Japan and we used the clean up song but that's because it was an English academy... I had some serious flashbacks when John read those words out omg I didn't know it was that common either

So that makes me wonder if American clothes don't use that label, or if everyone just ignores it and wears out their clothes a lot faster.
We hang clothes in Australia too! It’s usually pretty warm and dry like 60% of the year so clothes dry pretty quick.
@@IsabelPretty As an Aussie Pakistani, can confirm! We hang out our laundry in both Australia and Pakistan. I've only used a dryer in uni, and even then it didn't feel worth the $3 it cost lol.
Also can we talk about how fast John did that math and while talking and not trying XD omg
YESSS Love the every horror game you play but esp CA. Also RE: drying clothes - drying clothes on a rack or a line is actually really common basically everywhere but the States. Here in Europe, it's common to have a rack though folks have dryers too. In Nigeria, we also have a line.
no people in the states do it too idk where that line of thought comes from
@@ashleyyjinxx It's just a lot less common in the states nowadays.
Here for John just being an absolute menace to these characters

How complacent of the orphanage employees to let the mom just waltz in and pick up her kids again after abandoning them for what looks like weeks.

I particularly liked this game from Chilla's. Their other games are great, but this one's story and context around is disturbing. The fact that children out there experience similar situations like Renya and his sis.
9:48 I think it was meant to hint that someone has been digging in the dirt, but they have no garden (farm).
OMFG.. that thumbnail gave me shivers. i was shocked to see it was one of John's videos. It creeped me the F out!
Perfect timing! Just got off work! Time to chill and with a John video!
So glad to see this playthrough of this! Was just thinking about it today after watching your playthrough of Parasocial and Jiatsu recently
John’s dressed like luke from Gilmore girls and I’m here for it 😂
The human remains in the attic are the man's dead mother.
"Let's skedaddle" translation of "let's go" is too funny😆
OH MY GOOOD i was wondering if you were going to play it! i know you mentioned you were going to do it in october for horror games month but then after that you didn't mention it in the shareholder meetings so i thought it wasn't up your alley 🥺 i've been rewatching your other chilla's videos recently so this is perfect timing! thank you for the video, i'm excited to watch! 💙
John always delivers sooner or later 😁
But is the cat ok?! 😭
The dead fish in the tank will serve the cat well.
You’ll have fun with it
Your commentary cracks me up, but that music is doing my head in!
I love Chilla's Art
You SAID he was going to be right behind you and I STILL jumped. Thanks, I hate it.
The cocaine line made me lol at work 😂
i love chilla's art games but I always get nervous there is grudge jumpscare or something with grudge. ju-on the grudge scare me as kid and these old japanese houses reminds me from that movie :D
We also hang up our clothes to dry, here in germany dryers are not uncommon but they use way too much power, its just not efficient xD
Also, many clothes have a "do not tumble dry" label, so it's just not worth getting a dryer here.
I love chillas art so much 💗 one of my favorite indie game company's
Mum: “I WISH YOU WERE NEVER BORN”
Kid: “I love you too, mum ❤”

1:09:24 yep that got me. Great jump scare (and great reaction John)
Shocking lack of Zimbabweebs in this audience.
Hi,
i really like your videos.
Greetings from Germany.

26:50 Dang...
Excited to give this a watch! Thanks for the good meal John!
58:31 I thought that was John making that meow
I laughed when the bike bell rang cuz I already knew the John angry react was coming 😂😂😂
Missed the Chillas art games
The body in the attic was Mister's own abusive mom, he killed with the hammer in the intro.
Some washing machines have built-in dryers but too expensive. We do have dryers but most of the apartment or house complex doesn't have enough space to leave them. So might as well hang them up, less electricity bills as well.
Yay Chillas!! Thanks John!
Aight John I see you with the snapback lol dripped out man we like to see it 😂
i love how John audibly sighed when he found a character named Tsumugi. she seemed really plain to me
Living in Japan and they do have dryers but not everyone has them since a dryer takes up space that a lot of people don't have and a combo wash/dryer machine costs too much.
10:12 "They just hang clothes to dry"
It might sound very alien, but we do that quite a lot here in Brazil as well, it's more common than using dryers
"If only you guys weren't here, I should not have given birth to you..."
Oh that's just great... my mother's in this game.
Hyped for this! Thanks John 😁😁
As someone still learning kanji for my 2nd language, writing it over and over IS my homework. XD Learning it all at once instead of over an entire school life is much harder and less fun...
Curious to see what you think of this one John. From what I remember it's a little different than their other games.
As an elementary school music teacher surviving the last days before holiday break, the sudden inclusion of the Nutcracker March gave me immediate PTSD. I come here to ESCAPE these real-life triggers, John!!
It's implied the guy was also abused by his mom, and that's his mom dead in the attic... And some cyclical stuff with the little boy.
Nice video john❤ plz do make more videos on these types of horror games
The dead body in the Attic was Mister's abusive mother.
JOHN!! An early Christmas present for me? I've been waiting for you to play this! ❤ Happy early holidays to you and your beautiful family. Love from Canada 🇨🇦
Will you be playing any Christmas horror games?
Note to self. Don't drink HOT coffee while watching a John wolfe game video.
Because of laughing so hard you spill it or getting scared so bad you get hot coffee all over you?
I'm guessing that body in the attic was the mister's mom, based off the note we read. We can infer his mom raised him in a single room isolated from the outside world, and he ended up growing deranged into adulthood, and eventually snapped and killed her. It might explain why he wanted to play hide and seek with them, as he's mentally still really a child. This is also supported by how he reacts then the kid's mom confronts him, which presumably reminded him of his own mom, causing him to lash out in violence again.
10:18 I don't know about Japan, but here in South Korea, my family got our first dryer in 2023. We used to hang laundry.
ok so I taught preschool in Japan and we used the clean up song but that's because it was an English academy... I had some serious flashbacks when John read those words out omg I didn't know it was that common either
The voice at 58:31 creeped me out so bad, I was looking at the screen for jumpscares and thought that was John doing a weird voice to call the cat, it was only when he talked about it and I rewound to see the look on his face and how his mouth wasn't moving thst I realized it was something else. Spoooooky.
51:30 this music is amazing
