It takes me back to 1971 maybe 1972 ( nz ) as a kid being taken for a sunday drive in a school friends fathers brand new Charger . As I recall, he complained to the dealer about one of the bucket seats falling apart , and they gave him another brand new Charger .He was a dutchman, and they tend not to put up with any nonsense.
Chrysler had this thing about three speeds. Love the five speed upgrade. My brother purchased a Sportsman option brand new. Silver with a white stripe with red slash. White interior with tartan inserts. Went very well. I was a Monaro man, but had a soft spot for the Pacers and Chargers.
My brother bought and owned a powder blue Charger back in the early 80s (the one with the sqaure headlights). I think he bought it for about $500. I only rode in it once with him, the V8 sounded so good! I think he ended up selling it (no doubt at a profit) not long after. The next car he bought was really weird- a Nash from the 50s.
Wow! Excellent restoration and with all the additional clever hidden upgrades makes it a cut above. Impeccable attention to detail, true craftsmanship.
Wow, this takes me back. My 3rd car, before marriage and kids, was a VH Charger. Exactly the same colour, but with a clapped out 245. I swapped it out for a 318 out of a VF VIP and put Hotwire mags on it. Love what you've done to this one.
My second car when I was 18 was a two year old ex dealer principal 1972 VH XL 265 manual in autumn Gold as I recall with bone interior Should have never sold it Worth a fortune now
Number twelve off the line. The original owner would have been very excited back then, and very happy if they knew it is still on the road and better than new. One lucky car.
Very beautiful charger it always astonished me why Chrysler never made crossflow heads with full hemi chamber and canted valves for the 265 would have been a very powerful engine
very nice job well done. these days with summer temps getting up and over 40 deg you really need A/C.......Sanden still make period correct under dash units. ...personal choices i know
Salesman on Bell St Heidelberg wouldn't let my wife pick up her new to us Charger - too powerful & she wouldn't know how to drive it being a floor shift. I exited the car lot sideways onto Bell st - shit !!!- immediately took it home and put a couple of return springs on the loud pedal. 265 hemi with a clapped out Carter carb that I replaced with a 350 Holley (brand new on sale). What a difference. Did my usual tinkering with the front torsion bars but They went back to close to normal eventually. a real fun car that we drove until the rust wrecked the door hinges, it leaked under the instrument panel, the spare wheel kept the driver;s seat almost upright and I lost all but one rear wheel stud on a trip to Port Fairy. Life wasn't dull.
This is true about the power steering! My CM has very light steering and anything above 80kmh and she also tends to wander in which I find most annoying as the front end was rebuilt but I guess that’s just how she is? At lower speeds it’s fine. Bloody beaut charger ✌️
@@Tk-ou9ec How wide are the front tyres? , on my VH sedan Iv'e found that up to 235 wide is fine , but wider and it got wandery. Also maybe consider the alternative wheel alignment settings that I have mentioned. On the subject of Valiant power steering, it reminds me of a time I took a VF VIP for a test drive, and wasn't used to how sensitive it is , and damn near crashed it into a gutter. A friends 1970 Dodge Coronet was the same.
@@Tk-ou9ec Hi there, so ,not wide at all , just what they came with . How about switching to manual steering ?, my VH is manual, and with 235's on the front it's not what I'd call tough to turn the steering wheel when parking etc, and with some speed up it's definitely easy steering , and very stable.🙂👍
Theres an RT one of them thingies parked under a tree up the road...Dosnt look like it ever gets used been sitting for years...theres a few classic old cars around here...with grumpy old owners !
Beautiful car!! Why do you call it a hemi when it doesn’t have a hemispherical head. Is it just a badging thing for your country? Love the 3 dues set up!!👍😁
It has a "Hemi" 6 because according to the advertisers of the day it had a hemispherical head, it sort of does but not really. Marketing was skirting around the edges of reality even back then...
Just wondering if you have tried on your Valiants, the alternative wheel alignment settings mentioned in the book "Hey Charger " , as recommended by the race driver Leo Leonard for the Valiant Charger, he has specs for racing, and also for a street car, I used the street settings for my VH sedan and found it made a quite noticeable improvement in stability , I told the owner of a VH Pacer about it , and he got his done , and he also thought it was an improvement. I wish I'd known about it years prior.
@@ValigruntPerformance It wasn't all that hard but like you say it was hard on the tyres - I also fitted airshocks to the rear that gave me a bit more adjustment
This reminds me of my late dad. He had an orange Charger and it was his favourite car that he ever bought. The engine bay is large and there's lots of room around the engine. Why did you put the battery in the boot?
He wanted a very clean look with all the focus being on the engine in the engine bay. Hid as much as possible, including wiring, ignition, washer bottle, power steering pump etc...

That 5 speed upgrade is brilliant !
Nice original looking vehicle with some nice unseen upgrades, gotta be a happy customer with that one

Now each of those square headlights, if you can find them, can sell for $500.00...

Bugger 😟, a mate's Val has a 4bbl and extractors too, they love to breathe those 6's.
Very tidy Charger✌

Imagine 230kph in E38.
318 VJ power steering is dangerous at high speed 140kph.

We set them up for race spec on race days but not for everyday driving as it chews the tyres out too fast. But yes it does make a difference.

No power booster for the brakes would be my first upgrade
Is the body protection moulds along the length of the car glued on or holes in body?
Stuck on no holes and clips. This was a dealer option back in the day.
The charger with rego KYJ 214 was my dads car he bought it brand new for 3k
Glad we put it back together again, client spent a bit more then 3k on it now though.
