Hey Dan, for super quick hands for knifing plaice I will share a technique a kid taught me for catching flies. A second before you lunge, visualise your hand already making the movement - think about the path your hand will take and the muscles you will use. The moment you've made that visualisation - snap your hand out. 60% of the time, it works every time.

Glad to see a new dive. Does anyone recognise where this is? Im from Cornwall and the only clues are the ships at anchor and the sea wall so i assume South coast within spitting distance of Falmouth? Possibly on the lisard?
I've been out a few times this week going after velvet swimming crabs, they would go so well with that pasta dish, that being said the spider crabs should be starting to roll up any time from now. Class video mate always setting the standard high!

Great video!! I'm local to Plymouth and Cornwall myself, loving the lifting of lockdown as well finally able to get back out and do some diving!! I do a lot of scuba mostly but I'm starting to learn how to free dive and spearfish! would be great to show you some spots I know if you're interested!!
wave your hand towards the bottom so that sand comes from the bottom towards the fish. it forms a small cloud which confuses the fish. then it is easier to catch. I often do in Denmark when I dive. 😁
i wish the scallops here were that easy to grab :3 the variants we have swim super fast and notice the vibration on the water when you get close once it take of there is no catching it
@@DanielMann Im not sure about the name but look very similar to "Adamussium" Atlantic deep-sea scallop. it is however in the philippines. to catch them you need to sink without movement with your arm close to your shoulder then quickly grab it if you move your hand slowly they start to fly away there is no way to actually get ahead of them if your lucky they did not go left or right and they lay on the ground further ahead. They enjoy the "deep sea" (powder mudsand) where in my place luckily is 25m. Same place you find shrimp which is very good at karate :3
I haven’t been back to Australia in two years and not sure when I could possibly get back there. Covid is making it impossible with the two week hotel quarantine.

Love it mate, good job on the scallops 😎😎 I just moved to the south west to be able to dive more regularly, it is amazing here, got a 2kg male spider crab, Gurnard, Flounder and a lovely Plaice on Saturday! Followed by some good sized mullet on Sunday 😁👍🎯 Water here just hit 10.5°c so its warming up steadily.
@@DanielMann I'm new to diving and I suppose scallops are an easier target to catch when comparing to moving fish :). But I live in Azores. So I'm not sure if we have that here

Beautifull dive!try using a pole spear for such dives, it's light and efficient.

I saw Joe Pike did a lovely bisque with velvet crabs, they would have to be big to warrant picking the meat from them. Roll on the spiders!

Edit: What heat do you use to cook the tomatoes with the garlic?
I try and get some colour on the garlic and chilli first with a high heat and go medium to soften the tomatoes down.
