I generally freeze cuttlefish or squid, seems to break down the proteins. Fruit enzymes also tenderise, but Milk I find makes the squid super slimy and then you need to clean it off with water which is always a no no with seafood.

I recognize this buoy from the 2019 EuroAfrican Championship :) I was there too, as part of the portuguese female team

Hi Daniel I have a question on your breath hold technique (or any other experienced freediver in the chat). As I see it there are three ways to hold in the air under water: 1.) blocking the air flow with the lips, 2.) blocking it at the back of your mouth with the tounge or 3.) using the torso musculature, so that no air pressure is present in the lungs at all which means its possible to hold the air even with the mouth open and without blocking airflow with the throat/tongue. Which is the correct way to do it?

I’ve never thought about it but I suppose it would be option three seeing as I can laugh and smile wide open underwater 😁

@danielMann Hey Dan, any insight into keeping fish fresh after they're caught? I often have the issue where I'm out a mile or more out to sea hunting a rocky outcropping and I'll nail my best fish in the AM then they stay in the cooler bag for several hours going sour. I primarily hunt off a Tahoe Zephyr SUP, Eddyline '14 Carrabean sit on top, or even my Banks Board so not a lot of room for a big Esky. Any ideas?

Definitely need some ice or frozen ice bricks to keep the fish fresh. A cooler bag is a good start but doesn’t do much unless you have ice in there.

@@DanielMann Ice longevity is my main issue then. My bag turns into soup quick. I figure gutting and stuffing w ice then putting each in its own ziplock might extend my ice time. Wasn't sure if there was a work around like packing them in salt or something to keep them fresh longer. Guess I'll need a bigger boat so I can haul a bigger cooler!

A friend of mine used to target cuttlefish while spearfishing. You could always tell where he'd been due to the vast black clouds in the water. 😄

They do squirt a lot of ink. I wish I could have kept some of it for a squid ink pasta.

A 130 is about as long as I’d use.
