  • Hey guys, Daniel Mann here with another catch and cook this time from sunny England. This was probably the best day I've ever had on the water in the UK this year with scallops, black bream, gilt head bream & crabs coming over the side of the boat. Big thanks to JS & Fabio for inviting me out on their boat, true gentlemen. Cameo from Andrew Gomm whom we picked up from his shore dive.
    If you like this video please give it a thumbs up - it actually makes a difference!

    As an Italian born I can say that you cooked the linguine perfectly. Looks delish. Also the way you cooked the breams, perfect. I live in the USA, and so many just batter with bread crumbs and fry to dryness their catch. Great video as usual. Only thing in italy they maybe would have chopped the tomatoes in half or quarters,, but your dinner looked perfect.

    I cook our SoCal sargo (actually a grunt) whole like that, people around here don't really target them, but I dress em up a little more. Stuff the guy with herbs, lemon and garlic, slash the sides and stick lemon and garlic in the cuts and then I bake them on a bunch of sliced onion. People don't know what they're missing when they throw away head meat, cheeks and collars.

    Here in Portugal, home of all things good and wholesome, we don´t simply wash the crab poo away. In fact, we use it to make a paste with beer, other bits of the flesh from the shell, thinly sliced boiled egg and garlic. It then is covered with breadcrumbs and in the oven it goes until the breadcrumbs are slightly golden. All of this inside the shell. Here goes zie link if you want to check it out and be wholesome as well. Peace. th-cam.com/video/uI-upFCEchg/w-d-xo.html

    You threw away the crab paste which is delicious. Mud crabs from Australia don't have the paste in their shells. It was a crime seeing you throw the paste away. One recipe with that crab could have been crab meat+crab paste+Hard boiled egg mixed together.{ You can buy this in some supermarkets etc} and some of your fav herbs. The North east of England is famous for North sea crabs. Try some Herring too, in the form of rollmops or smoked kippers.Enjoyed the video though.

    Hi Daniel, the goop lining the inside of the crab shell is not all poop. You drain off the water and clean out the rest by running your finger around the entire inside of the shell. Then separate the cellulose like material and you are lot with a great extra flavour and texture to your crab meat especially for pasta as it clings to the spaghetti or tag really nicely. Even the bubble gum like white stuff shouldn't be thrown. All the best Cram from Cornwall, where the 500 kg bluefin fin tuna are boiling at the moment. Cant shoot them of course but they are great to video.............

    Hello from a Greek Marine Biologist , scuba diving instructor and free diver and used to do spare fishing till 2007...in Greece. I am amazed, i know that the fish variety in UK waters is not as much as the fish variety in Greek/mediterrannean waters , such as multiple species of breams, jacks, not much bass , parrot fishes, bogues and many others....but deffenetly in North sea you have higher quantity of fish than here. I was 4 years in Bangor Wales for my marine science studies in 2002-2006 and never saw a dive shop selling spare fish guns , suites and associates stuff, neither heard off people doing free diving/spare fishing around there....if i knew it i would had deffenetly try it no matter the currents/visibility etc etc....nice videos...

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s certainly easier but doesn’t keep the fish quite as cold. As they defrost there is then a layer of water around the ice so the cooling isn’t as effective. Okay for small fish like this though.

      You can’t net there at all. The tidal stream reaches up to 7 knots daily. That happens every 6hrs. Slack water only occurs for less than an hour out there.

    Really want to get into spear fishing, live on the coast in Kent but I have never seen anyone doing it. Any tips in getting into it or finding people doing it

      I'd suggest joining the London International Club of spearfishing and checking out this video: th-cam.com/video/qLZDnhWYWpE/w-d-xo.html

    Bro the sea bream the best way to cook it is open it from the belt like a butterfly and just use salt to grill it. About the crabs there’s so many other and better ways.

      It is literally poop no matter if its tasty or not. Its so disgusting what you guys actually eat from that carb. Saw Jamie Oliver cook it like that too.🤢🤢

    How does spearfishing in England compare with Australia?

      There is a big scene here in the UK. I think what protects this area is you can only dive it for about an hour each tide cycle and it's quite deep. Some of those fish are shot at nearly 30m.

    I am actually amazed what kind of fish you have there in UK. Bass (branzino/brancin), that... how do you called it guild head gold head (orada/orata/dorada) - are 1st class fish in Mediterranean. The black seabream (?) (kantar) is 2nd class sparidae (not bad, far from it -but less desirable than 1st class). You're only missing dentex there :)))
    We have always eat conger (ugor) ... really nice meat. I wouldn't mind spearfishing in UK :)))

    • @DanielMann
      @DanielMann  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      People also sometimes get a red bream here but more in the Channel Islands. Someone has allegedly seen a dentex in the U.K. but never speared as far as I’m aware. There are a few nice fish to spear here, nothing like Australia though!
