Tbh Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen were also in the Tonys as well so obviously, it made sense why this Musical didn’t get the appreciation it deserved. 2016 was a really good year for musicals.....it’s a shame that Waitress didn’t get much.
She did win the Tony the year before for "Beautiful", so it's hard pressed to win 2 years in a row, no matter how good you are. Besides, Cynthia Erivo who won was very deserving as well.
Lost In The Melody right? I just listen to Nicollette recently and I was really impressed in a way that I haven’t been by others. It’s not really a criticism it’s just that Jessie got me in the heart. Where the others didn’t. And I agree the person who’s playing the role now gets me too but Jesse what can I say Jessie!? I show my young theatre students a clip of Jessie in performance Singing this and it always just blows them away without very little introduction. She has that extra quality! That special something.
Jessie and Betsy are my personal favorites, but I completely agree with you. Jessie delivers this raw emotion in the song that was so beautiful. No one else has done a better job at that than Jessie
I noticed she has shortened the length of some notes and gave a feel of a shaky heavy peace to her breathing rhythm and to give the impression that the weight of the baby is putting a large amount of pressure on her diagram ,and also it seems a tad like she is starting labour.
Jessie has done hundreds of versions of this song but I guess (judging from every performance I've watched here on YT) every version different from one another. Such a gem.
I've sat on a couch and had this conversation with myself. When I first heard this song, it was as if someone had ripped a page right out of my life. Today my daughter is 15, and I can tell you, it wasn't easy, but we made it. I am happily married and have 9 more children with the man who ISN'T afraid to love. Heads up girls. It gets better. You got this!!
Ugh... same... so many tears first time I heard this. And many since the first time, every time I play it. It’s like a piece of my soul was ripped out and splattered onto a sheet of music. I just love it.
It’s crazy how you dont even need to know the backstory to this song to understand what is going on. She expresses every emotion so well and so RAW it’s freaking amazing. Hamilton is ok, but even they can acknowledge that this show deserved that tony
I saw this in Boston and remember it being exactly like this: completely raw, real and a MASTERCLASS in how to sing a song. I'm so happy to be alive to see her perform. Some serious star wattage here.
Oh my god this is gorgeous. Her voice, the raw emotion, the power, the lyrics, it's all perfect. I'm literally crying this is the best performance of a song like this I think I've ever seen
Right? I am emotionally undone by her rendition of this song. She is up there with Judy Garland with the way she connects me so profoundly to the song, both breaking my heart and filling it with love in what feels like a sacred act. I am AWED by her artistry.
Josh Tanzer You right i thought that but then i was like maybe it's not that but also thanks for telling me because i was pressing this for no reason so thanks for being calm about it
Okay the word "mine" is officially the worst word ever. In hamilton, Eliza singing "Burn", she says "You said you were _mine_" which kills me. In Heathers, J.D. singing "Meant to be Yours", he says "You were meant to _mine_" which also kills me. Now in Waitress the word is also not okay and from now on if someone tells me that word I will cry.
I honestly prefer the raw, unpolished, small venue performance of this over the overblown scenery, over-dramatic staging, and "glossy" Broadway rendition. I bet Jessie does too.
Yeah I don't think the Broadway version needed to have the visuals at the back. Jessie's (and every Jenna since her) voice is more than enough to deliver the impact.
This version for me is the best of hers. She’s amazing every time, but the pure, raw emotion she shows here speaks directly to my soul in a way that the others didn’t quite do as much.
I have watched so many videos of her singing this song. Each performance is different. It feels genuine like she's actually going through it. The hand movements and the way she says her words it just so realistic. It pulls you in. You feel the pain and relate to her. This is not only good songwriting and singing but also a good actor. I honestly cry watching each performance
Hamilton is great and all, but *THIS DESERVED AT LEAST 2 FUCKING TONYS.* I love hamilton, I had a huge obsession over it a few months ago, but even then I did and still do believe that 12 tonys is pretty extreme. For example, I don't think it should have one best book, because it barely has one. It's an opera with like 18 spoken normal words in all 2 hours and 46 minutes.
It's not simple to say That most days I don't recognize me That these shoes and this apron That place and its patrons Have taken more than I gave them It's not easy to know I'm not anything like I used be, although it's true I was never attention's sweet center I still remember that girl She's imperfect, but she tries She is good, but she lies She is hard on herself She is broken and won't ask for help She is messy, but she's kind She is lonely most of the time She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie She is gone, but she used to be mine It's not what I asked for Sometimes life just slips in through a back door And carves out a person and makes you believe it's all true And now I've got you And you're not what I asked for If I'm honest, I know I would give it all back For a chance to start over and rewrite an ending or two For the girl that I knew Who'll be reckless, just enough Who'll get hurt, but who learns how to toughen up When she's bruised and gets used by a man who can't love And then she'll get stuck And be scared of the life that's inside her Growing stronger each day 'til it finally reminds her To fight just a little, to bring back the fire in her eyes That's been gone, but used to be mine Used to be mine She is messy, but she's kind She is lonely most of the time She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie She is gone, but she used to be mine
I’m kinda mad I’ve only just seen this because it made me fall in love with this song again. For a few years it’s just been the shouty belty big sad one all the girls think they can sing at auditions, similar to Burn or On My Own. But this made me realise how fragile and devastating it is, and how much of a masterpiece the whole song is. It doesn’t feel like I’m listening to a singer sing this song, I’m all the way back to feeling Jenna in her darkest moments as her hope rips apart. It’s beautiful xx
Damn... this... this is acting. This is what you do with a monologue whether you sing it or not. You pour every bit of your soul into it and you take those emotions and you use them to fuel it.
It is more delicate and softer in its vulnerability to me- reflective building to wrenching, rather than the strongly belted (but still effective and nuanced) Broadway version. I like it this way too- it's more real.
Don't matter how many other versions I hear, I keep coming back here for more, cause haven't seen any other performance that got this song as Jessie did on this day. Even if you don't speak English, you get how Rapturous it is and it makes you feel all the pain that Jenna is going through. For me, this is the best Jessie's performance.
A year ago, I saw this video, and it opened me to Waitress. Before I thought that Waitress was a stereotypical show about a, waitress. But when I saw this video, 100% truth, I literally cried for the next 3 hours. Waitress is now my favorite musical because of Jessie, I ♥️ U Jessie!!!
Is the key higher in this version than it is now in the Broadway production? I think so but I can't tell. This sounds like Sara Bareilles' version's key.
This is in the key of G. That's the key that I've seen Jessie Mueller sing in most live recordings, although the cast recording of her has it in G flat/F sharp (one half step lower). Sara Bareilles sings it in the key of F (a full step lower than this recording).
They originally used this key but later on, Jessie's finding it harder to reach the high notes again and again so they lowered the key onwards. Atleast that's what I know
I have heard this song so many times and I have never cried and I'm usually someone who cries very easily so I didn't expect much from this but.....she freaking made me cry for the first time for this song the emotion is so top notch
Hey i'm glad so many people are enjoying this video!!! Sadly all of the waitress bootlegs have been taken down from the website stagedork.com :( if there put up again I will be sure to put it here in the comments section
Heart Broadway would you mind sending me the bootleg you do have? Please message me, I'd appreciate it! I love the show but don't know if I'll ever get the chance to see it live :(
I guess is fine if you want to sing this in a shaky and heavy breathing Cause in the end pregnant woman struggle with breathing cause the baby tends to put a certain amount of pressure in the mom's diagram.
I've heard her sing the song, and it was beautiful, but I always prefer when she performs the song. All those feelings are what really makes this song so touching.
Incredible is an understatement. I felt every emotion watching her paint a picture of the character in this song. What a moving performance, it truly was beautiful.
Another thing i love about the art version is how messy the stage look during this part, the house looks lived in and messy, which should be the case i feel, I mean earl just had a weird breakdown and she wouldn't really be in the mood to clean up right them. That's why some of the newer versions on Broadway look kinda TOO clean in my opinion idk
this is like.... ive been through this once before, ive feel like ive lost part of myself when having my first baby. so many emotion i dont know how to say it but this one here speak loudly of my experience in the past. Now its not so much but ive already accepted that my life will not be like before but actually its even more amazing and wonderful with years gone by.
This emotional breakdown brought to you by Quaker Oats
Collin Romero hahaha the Quaker Oats on the table
OMF I SAW THIS COMMENT AS SOON AS SHE MOVED NEAR THE TABLE LMAO
That couch has traveled more than I ever will
Oh my gosh!!!
That is one of the funniest comments I've ever seen😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
3 years later and still the best comment I’ve ever seen.
HOW DID JESSIE NOT GET THE TONY. SHE IS SO COMMITTED TO THIS ROLE
She didn't win it but the person who did win it deserved it more than her. She was definitely second for me, though.
Any other year and this would have been a landslide victory for her. I think she should have won too, but alas
Tbh Hamilton and Dear Evan Hansen were also in the Tonys as well so obviously, it made sense why this Musical didn’t get the appreciation it deserved. 2016 was a really good year for musicals.....it’s a shame that Waitress didn’t get much.

@@jenn4368 Dear Evan Hansen was actually in 2017
NO ONE WILL EVER SING IT LIKE SHE DOES. Sara, desi, Betsy, Katherine they are ALL spectacular but Jessie mueller right here is someone else
Anna Hamilton agreed!
Anna Hamilton
The girl on right now is on the same level in my opinion but Jessie just has a special place in my heart
Lost In The Melody right? I just listen to Nicollette recently and I was really impressed in a way that I haven’t been by others. trinity elder we agree! I’m glad you can “see what I see!🙌🏾💋☀️
I noticed she has shortened the length of some notes and gave a feel of a shaky heavy peace to her breathing rhythm and to give the impression that the weight of the baby is putting a large amount of pressure on her diagram ,and also it seems a tad like she is starting labour.
mariana martinez jimenez It makes sense, since she goes into labour right after this song. It was a nice acting choice.
mariana martinez jimenez
She does? I just noticed this!!
Jessie has done hundreds of versions of this song but I guess (judging from every performance I've watched here on YT) every version different from one another. Such a gem.
You're so right - it's incredible. Incredible that she finds the moment each night again and again as a new thing.
I know right? She's such a talent, to be able to go to this highly raw and emotional place night after night.
Damn girl 10 kids?! Hats off to you Haha
Oh my gosh. 10 kids. Your are a literal hero.
Ugh... same... so many tears first time I heard this. And many since the first time, every time I play it. It’s like a piece of my soul was ripped out and splattered onto a sheet of music. I just love it.
NINE?😭😭
This is just....
So pure.
So raw.
Full of emotions...
Each time she sings differently, but she delivers everything every single time.
Zhou Li
It’s just an emotional role I feel like you can play it differently depending on your show. Angry or sad or hopeful or naive.
CAN YOU HEAR YOUR HEART SHATTERING
Dax Rossel Not over jessie's amazing voice 😍😍
It’s crazy how you dont even need to know the backstory to this song to understand what is going on. She expresses every emotion so well and so RAW it’s freaking amazing. Hamilton is ok, but even they can acknowledge that this show deserved that tony
That whole season was great for Broadway
I saw this in Boston and remember it being exactly like this: completely raw, real and a MASTERCLASS in how to sing a song. I'm so happy to be alive to see her perform. Some serious star wattage here.
Samarastube Oh my god I saw it in Boston, also. And I felt the exact same way.
That moment when you realize every single video in your like section is of Jessie mueller being a total beast and every one makes you cry😭😭😭😭😂😂😂
Kate Oliver yep
I have a special category just for her. If I ever get the chance to hear her live I just might have to be taken out by ambulance.

IT'S JUST SO GOOD THERE ARE NO WORDS
Josh Tanzer I don't get it. Explain please.
just me it's an inside joke
Gabrielle Potts Explain it to me please...
Josh Tanzer You right i thought that but then i was like maybe it's not that but also thanks for telling me because i was pressing this for no reason so thanks for being calm about it
I find it so interesting to watch the progression of this song to what she has done in Broadway, and how can we not mention THAT Tony's performance 😍
Gurl. Sang that baby right outta her body! Yes ma'am!
ColtraneAndRain 😄
This is so fucking heartbreaking omfg. i cannot cope
Okay the word "mine" is officially the worst word ever.
In hamilton, Eliza singing "Burn", she says "You said you were _mine_" which kills me.

Now in Waitress the word is also not okay and from now on if someone tells me that word I will cry.
ąvąmøłđş same ahhh
But most sadly, in Lazy Town, Stingy singing "Mine", he says "This mailbox is mine" which kills me so much.
avamolds it’s actually a very hard word to sing too
snoozebuttonx omg I was thinking this
@@fireflyishere LMAOO
i love when she's sat on the couch arm and is slumped. makes it feel so raw and real
I honestly prefer the raw, unpolished, small venue performance of this over the overblown scenery, over-dramatic staging, and "glossy" Broadway rendition. I bet Jessie does too.

hamilton wasn't even that good,, like sure they're rapping on broadway, but the hype was literally way too much
It's not simple to say
That most days I don't recognize me
That these shoes and this apron
That place and its patrons
Have taken more than I gave them
It's not easy to know
I'm not anything like I used be, although it's true

I still remember that girl
She's imperfect, but she tries
She is good, but she lies
She is hard on herself
She is broken and won't ask for help
She is messy, but she's kind
She is lonely most of the time
She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie
She is gone, but she used to be mine
It's not what I asked for
Sometimes life just slips in through a back door
And carves out a person and makes you believe it's all true
And now I've got you
And you're not what I asked for
If I'm honest, I know I would give it all back
For a chance to start over and rewrite an ending or two
For the girl that I knew
Who'll be reckless, just enough
Who'll get hurt, but who learns how to toughen up
When she's bruised and gets used by a man who can't love
And then she'll get stuck
And be scared of the life that's inside her
Growing stronger each day 'til it finally reminds her
To fight just a little, to bring back the fire in her eyes
That's been gone, but used to be mine
Used to be mine
She is messy, but she's kind
She is lonely most of the time
She is all of this mixed up and baked in a beautiful pie
She is gone, but she used to be mine
Oh, god, and now I'm crying just reading the lyrics.

She is messy, but she's kind
She is lonely

This is by far the best I've seen from her for this number. Raw, pure emotion.
I cried hearing her singing this the first time I listened to it

My heart was shattered with this one.. what a great performance..absolutely the right jenna for that role
Wow.....superstar....emotion is raw and on display....as a songwriter I can't imagine how it feels to hear this
the emotion that is shown is just so powerful... jessie is jenna. no one else can beat her.
this is one of the most truthful performances i have ever seen
I really believe that if Hamilton hadn’t been nominated this year waitress would’ve done so much better

My favorite version of this song. Hands down.
I guess is fine if you want to sing this in a shaky and heavy breathing Cause in the end pregnant woman struggle with breathing cause the baby tends to put a certain amount of pressure in the mom's diagram.
This feels like the most honest of the the performances. Very touching.
I've heard her sing the song, and it was beautiful, but I always prefer when she performs the song. All those feelings are what really makes this song so touching.
Why am I crying over this? I never usually cry at these kinds of performances(okay maybe in Ham and Philip Ham's Death in Hamilton)
I'M SHIVERING
One word.... GOOSEBUMPS
Incredible is an understatement. I felt every emotion watching her paint a picture of the character in this song. What a moving performance, it truly was beautiful.
jessie captures everything
I'd love the full show as well tbh thanks
Check StageDork!
Jessie is beyond incredible
Thank you for sharing this. Such an incredible performance.
This is absolutely gorgeous. I am moved to tears.
she is a fucking legend. jessie mueller > sara bareilles. dont @ me
This example of sing-acting is stellar. Each time she sang this song it was a fresh experience for both her and the audience. Love!
This deserved a tony and that’s that.
exactly 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
She is truly amazing
The definition of talent:
I don’t know if they’ll ever be a time I listen to this and don’t cry.
Perfection
*chills*
This is the best version of this song out there
kudos for this performance !!
i cannot for the life of me get over how great she is.
It seems every woman that has played this role is phenomenal. Wow ladies. Bringing the heat.
That emotion...so fucking raw. Wow, Jessie. Wow.
Okay, so i cried a little bit when i listened to the studio version. This is giving me waterfalls of tears tho.
GODDAMN when did I start sobbing my eyes out
Another thing i love about the art version is how messy the stage look during this part, the house looks lived in and messy, which should be the case i feel, I mean earl just had a weird breakdown and she wouldn't really be in the mood to clean up right them. That's why some of the newer versions on Broadway look kinda TOO clean in my opinion idk
If she didn't compete in the same year with Hamilton... probably she'll win. It's 2022 already and I still watch her.
Oh wow. I may never experience this but she made me believe it was my life.
Bootlegs are on Stagedork now! :)
I can't put my finger on it but when she reaches the climax at 3:09 I'm so awestruck ~
THIS WOMANS JUST PERFECT fodasse 😭❤️❤️❤️❤️
This somehow explains my life right now
Anyone who wants to sings this song should start by watching this version. I feel like this is gospel ya know
this is like.... ive been through this once before, ive feel like ive lost part of myself when having my first baby. so many emotion i dont know how to say it but this one here speak loudly of my experience in the past. This is great!
Wow! Just…. Awesome
Man! This is so good!
This is beautiful I would love to see the full show
Do you have the scene before this? If so please please upload it! And thankyou so much for what you've already uploaded!! ♡♡♡
I just randomly decided to watch this and it DESTROYED me emotionally. Holy fuck the version I saw in person does not hold up compared to this
I LOVE JESSIE MEULLER
The Mueller family. How is one family so musically talented
For a second there I forgot that I was watching an actress...
Brilliant!
My favorite perfromance so far
i want to see you all the musical!!! link?? please!!! is amazing!!!!!
I feel like this was better than the one on broadway
Brilliant
