For those who don't know MTV stands for Music Television Yes MTV use to play nothing but music videos. 41 years ago, I was a 14-year-old boy sitting in front of my tv Godsmack'd at what I was looking at. 1981 The Buggles Video killed the radio star was the first video they played followed by the likes of Pat Benatar and Stevie Nicks and Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. I remember seeing Tom Petty's You got lucky video and Stevie Nicks Stand Back video and then Stop Draggin my Heart Around it was pure Magic. Her beauty and that voice and Tom that voice and that talent blew us away. I am now 56 and when us Gen Xers say we have the greatest music ever we mean it. We put our heart and soul in our music. We fell in love, and we cried, and we danced in front of that TV. Our music was not sampled or copied 41 years later people still singing Stevie Nicks Tom Petty Journey Joan Jett Pat Benatar TOTO they still use all of our music in TV shows and Movies and commercials still to this day. Tell me a song that has come out in 2024 that people will be singing in 2065. We loved our music so much we have held it sacred for almost 50 years. You will never hear us say "That's old Crap" It's our music the only music.
You can thank Jimmy Iovine(Stevie's boyfriend at the time, Tom's agent and well known music producer/agent) for putting those two together. They went on to become great friends. They did another duet a couple years after this called "I Will Run To You". Nicks wrote most of her songs, except for those two duets, which were written by Petty. You should check out some of his stuff as well. "You Don't Know How It Feels", "I Won't Back Down", "Free Fallin'", "Don't Come Round Here No More" and many others. Also, you should 100% check out The Travelling Wilburys, one of the greatest but short lived supergroups put together(Tom Petty, Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison).
The guitarist is Mike Campbell, he co-wrote the song with Tom Petty. There’s a whole background story of Stevie wanting to be a Heartbreaker at one time. When it came to songwriting, Tom was legendary.
For Tom Petty, you can't go wrong with: American Girl, Breakdown, Refugee, Don't Do Me Like That, Even the Losers, and You Got Lucky. For Stevie Nicks, the entire Belladonna album is a treasure trove.
In 1985, Weird Al Yankovic would create a parody of this song, 'Stop Dragging My Car Around'. He made the song about the tow trucks that kept showing up to tow his car away. Tom Petty has a lot of famous music, but it's his music video for 'Don't Come Around Here No More' that had the biggest impact on me. The creepy take on Alice in Wonderland pushed the boundaries at the time.
There had been a debate of who did the better duet with Stevie, Tom Petty or Don Henley. As for me, I can't decide because I love both of them. Another great duet was with John Stewart sing "Gold" from 1979, which I highly suggest.
When Damn the Torpedoes came out in 79 I was in a rock band with my cousin. Break Down, we immediately covered it. I was a Tom Petty fan from that time on. My cousin is a signed artist, he’s the drummer in Interpol.
Your Papaaa did great by convincing you to do this song. One of my all time favs. Supposedly Stevie asked Tom several times to write her a song about a recent breakup. He jotted this down in about 10 minutes. These two were great friends and this song is a masterpiece!!! Great reaction video on your part. Careful with the ‘bonking yourself’
That was beautiful!! You should check out Tom Petty and The Heartbreakers ft. Eddie Vedder singing "The Waiting" i think you would enjoy it. I saw Stevie Nicks in concert in 1978 California Jam 2. Awesome reaction!! Plus Eddie Vedder sang this with Stevie Nicks this song "Stop Draggin My Heart Around last year. 😊🩷🤘✌️
When it comes to Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers, everyone reacts to his biggest hits without delving into deeper cuts. There are so many songs that didn’t get the airplay that songs like Free Fallin’, I Won’t Back Down, etc had that are as good if not better songs than his biggest hits. He and his band had a 40 year career filled with amazing songs. If you overlook deep cuts you’ll miss some outstanding songs. Just a few I’d suggest: Saving Grace, You Wreck Me, I Need To Know, Kings Highway, Southern Accents, A Woman In Love (getting a lot of play since it’s the backing track for the newest Grand Theft Auto video game trailer) and many, many more.
If you want an odd Nicks song with her singing back up, “Gold” by John Stewart. Just make sure it’s the 1979 version with Nicks singing. “Leather & Lace” with Stevie Nicks and Don Henley is also good.
Stevie has frequently said that she would have left Fleetwood Mac in a minute if she could have joined the Heartbreakers. It's not a coincidence that Mike Campbell joined Fleetwood Mac after Buckingham left. One of my favorite Petty records is Hard Promises. That record features Nicks on a few tracks (though I'm pretty sure she's guested on multiple Petty & the Heartbreakers records). Stevie's first solo record, Bella Donna (for which this song was recorded for), is a top notch record.
Stevie has the talent of being able to wrap her voice around any other singer. But Stevie and Tom are ridiculous together. Tom Petty named Stevie an Honorary Heartbreaker.
Stevie's solo version of the song Crystal (originally Fleetwood Mac) is one of the most beautiful things I've ever heard her sing. Lyndsay Buckingham sang the original version, but it just suits HER voice so much better, she makes it something genuinely haunting and ethereal.
It was written by Tom and guitarist Mike Campbell and was intended to be a Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers song. Luckily his producer was dating Stevie and was producing her first album. He had the idea of Stevie being on this song. Tom agreed and even let her put the song on her first solo album.
Here is a rare gem of a song from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. It is a personal favorite and goes mostly unnoticed. The song is titled WOMAN IN LOVE. Another song, YOU GOT LUCKY, has a straightforward message and doesn't get much play. And then, the coup de grace comes with MARY JANE'S LAST DANCE. Stopped by to check your channel. Will give you a fair listen. In the meantime, Enjoy
Go watch the documentary Sound City made by Dave Grolh, it's about Sound City Studio's where Fleetwood Mac and Tom Petty recorded most of their stuff, it's pretty cool there were huge albums from the 70s/80s/90s made their from Fleetwood Mac to Nirvana. It's a cool documentary.
Happy belated 75th birthday Stevie. I have been in love/lust with her since the first time I heard and saw her.😍💕😊 When she goes I'm going to lose it. The last times I broke down was Neil Peart and before him it was Tom Petty. Stevie wanted to join Petty as a Heartbreaker but Tom told her only guys. But, they did make her an "honorary Heartbreaker"😎
Mi tío está enamorado de esta Stevie y me da risa 😅😅😊 algo mejor no me entiendas pero estás mas linda tu ❤ saludos desde México att. Ahuizotl Orrego Hernández
It would be cool if you did some more duet reactions like this ...Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, George Michael and Aretha Franklin....there are so many good ones! ❤
The album is actually Hard Promises. The album title is pulled from a line from Insider. Yes, it’s a great song. The Waiting may be my favorite Tom Petty song. But, I may have about a dozen or more TP&THBs “favorite” songs😁
Yeah, if your Pawpaw recommends something there's a good chance he's listened to it with you around. Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers are one of the greats.
Ray, u should really go down the Tom Petty rabbit hole. It’s … good … hole. Another hole u should consider, although it is not as deep, is THE TRAVELING WILBURYS - Tom is in this band too.
You need to check out JEFFERSON AIRPLANE......Nothings going to stop us.or..we built this city.....GRACE SLICK has an AWESOME voice I think you will like.

Stevie has one of those voices that literally sends shivers down my spine.

A better Nicks / Petty duet is "Insider" from Petty's "The Waiting" album. 🥰
@@Reclining_Spuds was it a rumor or what I could have sworn that she and Petty were paramours for a very short time.
@rorybisson756 Indeed, that's the rumor. More than rumor is her with Iovine and Don Henley.
@@Reclining_Spuds i knew about henley.
Their voices always seemed made to go together. Another awesome duet of Stevie with Don Henley of the Eagles is Leather and Lace.
stevie nicks is just gorgeous. she’s just a natural and that voice oh wow. .
The guitarist is Mike Campbell, he co-wrote the song with Tom Petty. There’s a whole background story of Stevie wanting to be a Heartbreaker at one time. When it came to songwriting, Tom was legendary.
This song is just wonderful the lifelong Friendship of them 2 😢😢😢😢
For Tom Petty, you can't go wrong with: American Girl, Breakdown, Refugee, Don't Do Me Like That, Even the Losers, and You Got Lucky. For Stevie Nicks, the entire Belladonna album is a treasure trove.
And for another fantastic duet with Stevie Nicks, take a look at Leather & Lace with Don Henley.
People out there turning music into gold@@jasonlaviolette2964
you got lucky for sure!
One of the greatest female Rock voices ever.
In 1985, Weird Al Yankovic would create a parody of this song, 'Stop Dragging My Car Around'. He made the song about the tow trucks that kept showing up to tow his car away.

And that wonderful smoooooth guitar from Mike Campbell!! Great track!
Tom also has a unique voice. Together ... wow
R.I.P. Tom 💔💔
Stevie was my crush for years 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻
I saw Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers in Tucson back in 1986...great show RIP Tom
Steve is amazing, and breath taxingly beautiful! 😎❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Pa pa has great taste ! Both are legendary!
RIP Tom... 1981 MTV rotation for months....
The look that Stevie gives to Tom at the 7:04 mark is priceless. After she sings "You need someone looking after you".
Stevie Nicks and Don Henley
Leather and Lace

Love Tom, love Stevie, absolutely love them as a duet, so wish they did a whole album or two together, that would have been amazing
Another good voice blending is Lita Ford and Ozzy "Close My Eyes Forever"
I've listened to Weird Al for most of my life but never did I know he parodied Stevie Nicks. Makes it so much better.
Stevie Nicks also had a beautiful duet with Don Henley, from Eagles. It's called "Leather And Lace".
And with Kenny Loggins. 'Whenever I call you friend '
You done it again great reaction that huge smile makes my day ❤❤❤
This was also the first year of MTV and music videos. Before the 80s, that just wasn't a thing.
I’ve had a crush on Ms. Nicks since I was about 10. I’m 54 now 😂 RIP 🪦 Mr. Petty 🤘🏻🔥💥🙏🏻💯
Me and the wife are going to see Stevie on March 3 in Omaha can't wait never seen her in concert before.
Love your reaction, and the pun in your channel name seals the deal for a sub :)
All hail the Sennheiser MD441 microphone. Beautiful looking and sounding. Just like Stevie ✨
I didnt realize Stevie nicks was Hot, Ive heard her voice many times but never seen her before now.

I love how you swooned when Tom Petty first came in. Me, too. I absolutely LOVE Tom Petty ♥️
I like your glasses. Reminds me of my youth in the 70's.
Great song! Transports me right back to the early 80's everytime I hear it.
If you want an odd Nicks song with her singing back up, “Gold” by John Stewart. Just make sure it’s the 1979 version with Nicks singing.
“Leather & Lace” with Stevie Nicks and Don Henley is also good.
I took my little sister to this concert. I was her favorite brother afterwards.

Dad listens to this every night ❤
I was in awe of Stevie when I was a kid too😂Shes incredible😂❤
Enjoyed watching that with you.. Suggestion: watch it again and focus on the back up vocals.. Subtle, but gorgeous
So, a couple options, Tom Petty Free Falling, Fleetwood Mac Silver Springs and lastly Stevie and Don Henley Leather and Lace.
Your dad have very good taste for the music... Fleetwood Mac were amazing, and Stevie with her raspy voice were the bonus
This song used to get serious radio play.
They became very close friends!!

Mi tío está enamorado de esta Stevie y me da risa 😅😅😊 algo mejor no me entiendas pero estás mas linda tu ❤ saludos desde México att. Ahuizotl Orrego Hernández
I love Free Fallin ~ Tom Petty.
I think Stevie and Lindsey had the best chemistry and mesh together imo. Even tho I love this song.
Whenever I call you friend - Stevie & Kenny Loggins.
You know what? You don't even have to say it... satisfied.
EDGE OF SEVENTEEN by Stevie...it ROCKS, man!
It would be cool if you did some more duet reactions like this ...Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton, George Michael and Aretha Franklin....there are so many good ones! ❤
Check out another great Nicks / Petty duet is "Insider" from Petty's "The Waiting"album. Edit: the album was "Hard Promises"
Loved your reaction. 🥰

Yeah, if your Pawpaw recommends something there's a good chance he's listened to it with you around. Tom Petty and the Heart Breakers are one of the greats.

Instant great duets: Just Add Stevie Lynn.

You should react to Stevie Nicks and Don Henley together for the song "Leather and Lace".
Yep, that’s another awesome duet that Stevie kills it on. And their voices go great together as well.
Recommend Stevie Nicks "Gold Dust Woman"
Your reacts are unique. Please do Led Zeppelin "Stairway to heaven" live from MSG 1973.....
