I had 2 Vaers MAN! SUPER SOLID! but... the higher up models had a super steep import tax for me man haha. But hey, no regrets trying Vaer.. i had an S5 quartz and lasted me 4.5 yrs before the crown broke.. because there was no crown guards :) but still... no regrets! a beater watch.

I own the D4 Meridian, the solar quartz version. I think that's the version to go for when weighing pricing and dimensions, as the D4 is 38mm with a 39mm bezel and 45mm lug to lug vs. 48 lug to lug on the D5. I think the smaller case size wears much better given the case shape.
The fit and finish is adequate for the price. The applied indices are very thin and could use more height to enhance the visual depth. I don't know if my version has the same lume application, but I find mine to be mediocre. I don't love the bezel action. I do wish they offered a matte ceramic bezel (or a sapphire bezel would probably work well too) instead of the aluminum, it just ups the value proposition. The D4 Meridian Black offers a black ceramic bezel.
I do appreciate the navy and gold color combination and the American assembly though.
Overall, I like it, but I'm not sure I'll keep it long term.
Assuming everything on the D4 holds true on the D5, I think you can get more for your money elsewhere.

The crown on my D4 kept digging into my wrist and itched like hell. Weird because my D5 and C5 don't give me any probelms whatsoever.

The D5 is a higher end watch with more attention to detail.

From whom? Im new to watches and i don't want to spend a rediculous amount. Im specifically looking at US made or assembled. I've been looking at this or something from Nodus or Shinola

I would have liked to see a ceramic bezel at that price point.

Your lighting does a fantastic job at making every watch look like a$$

I like Vaer but $700 is a bit steep ask for a miyota and uninspired design. Although it is 🇺🇸 assembled. I wish they would use a clear sapphire. crystal and move away from the aqua terra case. There are quite a few Swiss Made watches at this price point.

The "story" is kinda...unconvincing. This watch is average at best and yet another homage of few watches (Omega old-school case and hands - similar to Helson nad Borealis watches). There are better options for this same price so I find it kind of hard to believe they couldn't find a nice watch for their budget.

Good point, although I will say that those options are much truer to the original SM300, while Vaer have done more to incorporate their own spin.

42mm would be better for me. Oh well.
