    This is a very challenging song to sing for any accomplished vocalist, but Floor does it effortlessly while sitting down! As to Troy's vocals.. We were at the Ziggo Dome concert in Amsterdam last Sunday. Many great surprises there, with Henk as the absolute highlight of the evening. But there was more and that was Troy. They played a "Marko" song "7 Days To The Wolves" and I noticed just how incredibly great a job Troy did here vocally and how immensely he has improved. He really worked his @ss off with all of the instruments and really gritty vocals at times. What a trooper!

    • @NickBR57
      @NickBR57 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Quite right to shout out Troy. He has picked up so much and become far more forward in his vocals - and he is good
      Not Marco obviously, but a very good voice and he's putting a bit more rasp in now (not exactly the word I want, but you know what I mean).
      The full Nightwish version, non-acoustic, of this song is great as well as the acoustic, and they do both now. Presumably arranging it for this session made it obvious it would work in full concerts...

    That's right you cannot find a place to pause that one. Great song, great message. Two amazing musicians doing amazing work.
    One of the best acoustic recordings I've heard. Two mics and the plug in on the guitar really captures the richness of the tone and the picking and string drag giving a fantastic organic feel. Floor's very hot mic allowed her to control all the dynamics especially in the very breathy parts.

    Tuomas wrote the second verse for Floor, her husband Hannes Van Dahl, and their daughter , Freya. Floor was brought to tears when he told her about it.
    Tuomas has said that this song is an 'ode to human empathy'.
    Tribal is another song from the new album that you haven't done yet. Try the live version at either Deichbrand or Hellfest 2022.

      Too much going on to really find a spot without doing them an injustice. I don't like having to pause, but copyright won't really allow us to do much without the pauses. Truth be known, my button briefly didn't work. By the time it did, they only had 30 seconds to go. I figured it wouldn't be a good thing to pause it at that time.

    Fun fact: During the interview on Planet Rock Radio 2020, Troy called Floor's voice for Stratospheric - and that's pretty close!! 😂
    It's a pretty difficult lyrics with all the runs through the scales and no time to breathe - but Floor makes it look so effortless - and she is sitting down..
    On the live versions, she often adds some grit in places, and a more clear higher tone, instead of the airy one she uses here, when she goes up.
    It's amazing how she adjust the songs just tiny bits, to almost every single gig.
    Phenomenal performance.
    And nice to see how you wouldn't dare to pause it - respect 👍😉🤘

  • @TimoArula

    The second verse Tuomas wrote for Floor, her husband Hannes van Dahl and their daughter Freja. This is Tuomas way to say: Thank you Floor for saving the band back in 2012 and make us great again.
    he wrote the part "We met where the cliff greets the sea" about her relationship with Hannes van Dahl (although is also a clear reference to Élan), and "Now there’s one who came from me / A child of light, another tale", which is about her giving birth to their daughter Freja. How cool is that?
    I mean, he really did what the song is about: human empathy. And what a better way to show it by dedicating a little part of the song for his friend and band mate? She said she went to tears when he mentioned it to her. And I can see why, it is a beautiful song.
    Nightwish... Nuff Said!!!
    Well... now I have to subscribe !!!!

    Did anyone but ne catch the clip of this at the most recent shows? There was one night where Floor changed the last choral pass to say, "draw the blade" instead of "burn the rope"... she even made the physical motion of drawing a blade from its sheath! I thought maybe I smoked too much weed...but no, she sang it! It was quite the triumphant moment...since she'd just "gone under the knife" for her surgery...I feel like she owned that so hard!
    Anyone else see the clips from the Nov 28th show in Amsterdam...Floor and Henk Poort performing the *Nightwish* version (made famous by.Marko and Tarja) of Phantom of the Opera...and I'm not a Floor fanatic...but damn...she had a GLS 2013 *moment* with her final note! WOW

    • @MOON-SHADOW-ANNE
      @MOON-SHADOW-ANNE 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@MOON-SHADOW-ANNE Oh that's interesting...I've watched 3 shows but she only did it once that I saw/heard. And when she sang it, she reached for Troy's waist and made the motion of 'drawing' a blade...I connected it to her surgery but also could be an ode to TPATP... I guess we'll find out when the DVD comes out...they filmed in Amsterdam 2 nts. Very exciting...and a bit mysterious...

    Another great reaction! Tuomas' ode to human empathy. I believe Troy is playing a Fylde Oberon Custom acoustic guitar. They also make the Bouzouki he plays. The studio version with the full band is also fantastic with a bit of folk/celtic feel to it. Both versions have been played during the current tour. They played the acoustic version when I saw them back in May in Boston and they did the full band version at Hellfest. The one from Hellfest would be worth doing a reaction to.

  • @nightwisher751
    @nightwisher751 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Thanks souls for the reaction.
    On some of the lyrics the line "another John Doe" could be referring to the song Nemo
    meaning without a name.
    "Come in, the fire's warm
    Burn the rope and dance some more"
    The rope would be the wick in an oil lamp used from thousands of years ago, also in
    Religious settings still today.
    "Dull the blade and dance some more"
    Reference to the blade in Poet and the Pendulum song and the album cover of Dark Passion Play
    also, it could be said to take the edge of one's feelings to dull them
    sending best wishes to all of you

    • @nightwisher751
      @nightwisher751 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for reply you could be right.
      My thoughts for my interpretation are the line
      "Dear one, here I am to share the fear"
      is saying a problem shared is a problem halved.
      How's the heart
      Underneath the silence?
      I think this means by not just listening but listening so deeply you are able to walk a mile in another's shoes you have total empathy for the other.
      And this takes me to another saying "burning the candle at both ends"
      This is thought of a negative. Staying without sleep deep into the night and rising early in the morning would stress the body to breakdown.
      Note burning the candle is burning the wick or rope of the candle.
      My thoughts then are that the lines
      "Come in, the fire's warm
      Burn the rope and dance some more!
      is an invitation to burn the oil lamp deep into the night as you unburden your problems whilst i listen with true empathy and you are able to let yourself go as in dance the night away.
      Same for Dull the Blade, to talk into the night and take the edge off all the problems you are welcome here the fire is warm and our hearts warmer

    i have loved this version since I first heard it a couple of years ago (well nearly) Troy is a wonderful accompanist to Floor here. Floor is simply fantastic, Nightwish won the lottery and the jackpot when they invited these two to become permanent members, Troy gets a lot of flack for his singing which I think is totally unfair because Troy has such a mellow and relaxing voice.
    Troys Guitar is a cutomised Fylde Oberon acoustic that Troy has had for at least 20 years the cutaway was done by Fylde a few years ago. If you want to hear a song that is very special then Marco and Troy on the Nightwish Cruise with a special guest th-cam.com/video/ObT2E9QTIZs/w-d-xo.html
