I really enjoyed this! I've had the rules for ages and have painted a fair whack of Russians, but I've never played. This is the exact type of battle report I need to see to learn passively while painting stuff. Nice armies and terrain as well. Looking forward to the next one!
Thats really awesome 👍😀 thanks so much. Will do, were going to be playing a few other games as well but will have more Black Powder, the French have to keep their revenge going

Another great video! The soldiers, terrain and everything is very well done! You really have a knack for keeping things going, but still comprehensive. That quite an unexpected surprise when Haley pushed your unit back onto the bridge just as it was blowing up! Good work with the smoke and fire effects!
Cheers 👍😀 glad you enjoyed it. I wanted to keep things miving and even though there can be important effects on the orders phase (closing fire for example) i felt we could just summarise on that or zoom in amd slow it down while that is resolved 👍
Great bat rep. I think that you are doing great job to promote Black Powder. I also like that you use advanced rules from supplements like for example four deep line. Keep it up!! Maybe scenario based on 'hougoumount' or 'Quatre bras' next time ? About cuirassiers -95th rifles clash: skirmishers have -1 to hit not cuirassiers, look at page 68 in core rules on ''dice roll modifies' . Also cuirassiers always have +D3 to combat result as heavy cavalry, so adventige of french unit was huge and historically accurate. I was surprised that 95th didnt evade this charge - brave Sharpe's rifles ;) Looking forward for more Black Powder stuff, cheers!!
Cheers, thats great to hear - i love this game and think it should get more exposure. Also just trying to show that it doesn't just have to be played on massive tables which i think could put off a few people who may consider getting into it otherwise. just trying to come up with the next scenario, possibly a variation on Quatre Bras (i.e. scale it down a bit). If you have a preference let me know, basically thinking either the one above or a hill assault/village assault game. Yeah watching everythig back i realised i messed up a little with the heavy cav vs 95th combat 👍😅 ah well, they'll get another chance next time. i asked Hayley if she wanted to evade with them, her response was basically "hell no" 👍😀
@@7thson726 Look at main rule book about quatre bras-ish scenario. For example your hanoverian brigade with some light cover (+1 to morale) and 95th rifles in small building waiting for 2-3 brigades (i dont know how many french brigades have you got) and protect cross road . Rest of British brigades come to battlefield about 3-4 turn (it depends on table size). Should be fun :). Cheers

Haha appreciate it buddy, really pleased you enjoyed it 👍😁 do you mean watching a black powder game or watching a man get taunted for an hour by his wife into terrible dice rolls 😀
Intriguing stuff. Never saw a complete miniatures battle before. Personally play Breakaway's 20-year-old real-time games Waterloo and Austerlitz which are like animated minis. Think they're still available but if you install them make sure to apply patches (1.002 and 2.01 respectively) else game speed is way too high. Good on yer and regards to the wifey for being a good sport; never get mine to join in like that!
30:08 At the battle of Leipzig in 1814 when the retreating frech spotted the russians on the shores of the river they blew up the single bridge leading out of the city with thier own retreating soldiers massed on it. The remaining french forces on the retreat had to swim or cross the cold waters in other ways whilst under heavy musket fire. Kings and Generals made a really good video on the battle.
There's a small monument on the site of where the bridge used to be. I live in Leipzig for seven years and there are historical markers all over the city showing the placements of units on the different days during the battle as well as a giant monument and museum where the heaviest fighting took place. I really enjoyed exploring to different battle sites and visiting to museum, which has a nice collection of uniforms.
Another really fun game. Pardon the questions though but the results of some of the rolling went too fast for me to understand. Guess I'll have to watch again. Shouldn't the french battery have gotten some hard cover protection from the British infantry volley? How does a "small" unit of rifles get so many dice against the cuirassiers and a full squadron of heavy cavalry catching a small unit of skirmishers in the open come out needing 5's to hit? Why does an Hanoverian unit of hussars that just got their heads handed to them count as support?I'll have to pull out my rules & magnifying glass to find the answer to these questions.
Thanks, it was alot of fun to play 👍 sorry about that, sometimes i get a bit excited to move on to the next bit, still learning with the filming. The battery gave the british a -1 to shoot at them as it was deployed artillery and recieved a +1 to their save as it was in cover. The rifles got 2 dice in closing fire and 2 dice in the melee. The cuirassiers got 9 dice and i rolled poorly. I neeeded 5's to hit because i was disordered (-1) and fighting skirmishers (-1) but charged (+1) The hanovariean hussars can support, nothing stops shaken units spporting but they can't charge - however i overlooked that skirmishers can never be supported, so technically i would have won by 1 and they would have needed to test. Will remember for next time 👍😀
Well even though you won , I throw my Sheiko into the air and shout viva la Hailey viva la Hailey, viva la Hailey and Ted too. Really like your Battle reports Now I want to paint up Nappies.
I like that you show the dice results, the camera isn’t flying around to fast, the army’s are nicely painted and terrain looks awesome. I’m building my medieval army’s in both 15 and 28mm. Cheers!
Hi there, no problem, do you mean hiw did she order them on the board, its a command roll as standard but with a - 1 modifier. Glad you enjoyed the vid 👍
Question...how could the Rifles, as skirmishers, support a cavalry ( Hussars) unit? And then, how could the Rifles, in turn, get supported by the same Hussars which are retiring? 🤔
If i remember correctly as it was a while ago, they can't. It was an oversight, can be hard sometimes to remember everything, especially when filming 👍
Fun to watch and I was interested in the melee with the Coldstream Guards in particular. I was wondering what happened to a brigade if its commander was eliminated, and you confirmed the way I have been playing it that the entire brigade then becomes broken. I was also hoping that another circumstance might arise but it didn't so - if the French battalion had taken excess casualties in the melee that they had won, what do you do with the excess? Leave it on or remove the casualties so that the unit is just shaken? In the game I have just played I left them on as this seemed more reasonable, giving the player a chance to rally them off later, but also allowing the opponent to shoot at them and possibly force a break test.
Thanks, im glad you liked it 👍 Thats the way i've always played it as it seems to make sense. I've never come across that situation before - which is odd. I think as you describe makes sense, the excess stay until their next break test.
@@7thson726 Glad you agree. It seems to happen to me a lot and once an opponent claimed winning a melee was equivalent to passing a break test and you should remove them. I've been unsure ever since.
Another great battle report, keep them coming. Really enjoyed your painting tutorial on horses using the contrast paints as well. Just a question though, should the rifles not have got the minus 1 for being in skirmish order against the cuirassiers?
I'm really glad you enjoy them, will be carrying on with them, just looking at new scenarios. going to be doing a few more painting videos as well 👍😀 You're right about the skirmish, i was in a hurry and applied it as a negative modifier to the heavy cavarly when it shoiuld have been the other way around
Shouldn't Hailey have gotten another point for the shaken Cuirassiers? Score 8 - 7? I love how you presented the game, fast forward through movement and detailed battle phases. Your narration and grasp of the rules seems strong. I am also glad to see some young people enjoying Napoleonic miniatures. This hobby needs to pass on to the next generation of players, so that is encouraging.
Thats very kind, thank you 😀👍 I'd like to think that i have a good grasp of the rules but there are still things i get wrong, however im of the school of thought that i would rather keep the game running, house rule it for that situation then look it up after, otherwise you loose the momentum. Usually you end up being pretty close to the actual rule anyway. For the Cuirassiers as far as i can see and remember they were only disordered not Shaken. They have a stamina of 3 so would need 3 casualties to be shaken Im working on my 4 year old daughter getting into wargaming, she likes throwing dice but i think shes aiming at the models haha
I agree looks like someone slipped Haley a Mickey great game is always very inspirational have you changed the move distances for the size table you’re playing
You two produce a most entertaining game! Looking forward to watching the others BTW I don't think there is a penalty for fighting skirmishers in Melee. In fact there is probably a bonus or an automatic win.
Thanks, glad you like them, will have another in the future, just getting the time at the second can be a challenge. There is a penalty your correct (-1) for the skirmishers roll to hot and i forgot to add the heavy cavarlies charge bonus as well 🙄 haha
Really enjoying your battle reports! Wanting to get my own armies going.. what miniatures are you using? Im assuming 28mm scale? Again love the videos!
Hi Great video, I am enjoying this series very much, your scenarios are really entertaining. I am looking forward to more Videos. The only thing that I didn't agree was to have a broken brigade after their commander was killed (couldn't find that rule), I would have given them 1 or 2 moral wounds, then put another commander with a lower command rating. What do you think?. Anyway thank you for the game, Chao
Thanks, glad you enjoye them, we have tried to do scenerios that show it can be played on a 6 x 4 and not just huge boards (although that is still fun to). There is no specific rule about the briagde becoming broken. normally he would be replaced by one with a lower command rating however it didn't seem right in this case and it was more fun to have them retire. another way would be to roll a die, maybe 1-2 the brigade breaks 3-4 he is replaced with a commander with a rating of 2 lower 5-6 he is repalced with someone of a rating 1 lower?
Another great battle report, keep them coming please. A quick question now,. What size table are you playing on and have you reduced movement and firing from the Black Powder rules?
cheers, pleased you liked it 👍😀 we we're playing on a 6 x 4 so reduced infantry movement to 6" and cavalry to 9". We kept the ranges the same, seems to work out well 👍
@@7thson726 Thanks for your reply. Interesting that you reduced movement but not shooting, I would have thought that keeping th ratio the same would have been the case. However, as long as it works for you both, then that's all that matters.
@@michaelhuxley6337 haha to be honest i have only just realised my mistake, i should have reduced it to 9" infantry and 12" cavalry. It did seem to still work well though 😅
Really enjoying your videos as I try to learn this game while painting my forces. Have you reviewed the Warlord Albion Triumphant Volume 2 campaign book? Some of the campaign books in my opinion are too much filler. However as I'm investing in a Hougomont gameboard, I'm thinking the specialized rules and photos in this book might make it a good resource for gaming Waterloo. Any thoughts??
Hi, THanks for the kind comments. i haven't reviewed the book but i use it all the time for my games and battle reports. there is alot of stats in there, points etc, only 3 scenerios and enough of a history to keep you going. I think its a definte good resource 👍
👍 We will be doing more, the table is what we can fit in 😀 though in our last game i managed to get another 1.5 foot on. Too many people are discouraged by the need for a large board, but to be fair it doesn't matter, you can still have a great game, which hopefully came across 😁 Yeah, while annoying, Skirmishers can offer support, they just can't recieve it 👍
This is very nice to see and good to learn the game. The only thing I don't understand is how the hell is she supposed to take the bridge in 3 turns only :/ Are this match rules taken from a book or did you create this by yourself?
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it. Its a custom scenario we've played a few times. Its totally possible, remember each batallion can potentially move 27 inches a turn with cavarly potentially going 45 inches including a charge. A couple of volleys is usually enough to see off the engineers or at least shake them so they can't act. This game was about speed and using the roads to increase the chance of succesful order rolls 👍 Personally i would have taken the cavarly to enter first but Haykey chose not to even when i said "are you sure" haha Hope that helps, it is hard, but war was rarely fair 😁 of you have any more questions please do ask, always happy to answer 👍
Un gros problème cependant : De l'infanterie en ordre dispersé au milieu d'un passage à gué, utilise sans problèmes des armes à feu les pieds dans l'eau pour stopper une attaque de cavalerie lourde...
i've had to rely on google translate so hopefully its ok: The heavy cavalry attack just fell apart becasue of my terrible dice rolling. That, and i forgot the heavy cav bonus they wold have gotten at the end of combat, so they would have won. but it was getting late 👍😀
Suggestion (règle optionnelle) : FISHING : Yes FIRING : No The Ford is a place in the river where the depth cross. Only the Infantry and Cavalry units may cross a wading river at half of their speed. A unit that ford can be shot at but will not able to fire. (sorry for my English).
Thanks very much 👍😀 black powder is pretty easy to pick up i feel. There is a supplement for the Anglo Zulu war which should have all the unit statistics and special rules that you need 👍
I do (well, wife 😅) took 14 years but i got her in the end. In fact she'd honestly rather play this than other games now, probably because she keepa winning 😁

Brill battle,Its all down to the luck of the dice :)
Absolutely - sometimes that luck appears to go just one way haha. glad you enjoyed it
@@7thson726 OK but can't you get odds in your favor through stuff like formation, flanking fire, terrain bennies, leadership, friendly support, etc.?
@@jonshive5482 yeah definitely 👍 all of that has a significant effect, i was just citing my normal dice rolls 😅
I think its a definte good resource 👍
please do more..though your table is too small but it does'nt seem to matter....hussars supported by foot skirmishers for modifiers...no way
👍 We will be doing more, the table is what we can fit in 😀 though in our last game i managed to get another 1.5 foot on. Too many people are discouraged by the need for a large board, but to be fair it doesn't matter, you can still have a great game, which hopefully came across 😁
Yeah, while annoying, Skirmishers can offer support, they just can't recieve it 👍
Fun game.
Cheers 👍
Good game.
Thanks very much 👍
Pretty cool scenario. BTW, a woman that is supportive of her man's hobby is a good woman...... I know, I have one myself. Cheers!
Cheers 😃 she is that haha just wish she'd roll lower 😅
This is very nice to see and good to learn the game.
The only thing I don't understand is how the hell is she supposed to take the bridge in 3 turns only :/
Are this match rules taken from a book or did you create this by yourself?
Thanks very much, glad you enjoyed it. Its a custom scenario we've played a few times. Its totally possible, remember each batallion can potentially move 27 inches a turn with cavarly potentially going 45 inches including a charge. A couple of volleys is usually enough to see off the engineers or at least shake them so they can't act.
This game was about speed and using the roads to increase the chance of succesful order rolls 👍
Personally i would have taken the cavarly to enter first but Haykey chose not to even when i said "are you sure" haha
Hope that helps, it is hard, but war was rarely fair 😁 of you have any more questions please do ask, always happy to answer 👍
Ahoj is the cat in background yours or hers?
I hope you will make more battles like this i am realy enjoying it
Hi, thanks im glad you enjoy them, 👍 the cat belongs to both of us, well, he bugs me more for food anyway 😁
Your cat is realy beautiful😏
Can you pleas make more battle reports like this🙏
enjoyed that thanks - just getting into black powder - you are not far from me so perhaps can meet up sometime as some of the rules confuse me lol
Awesome, whereabouts?
Im always up for a game time and space allowing 👍
@@7thson726 im over in bury st edmunds - have a french /russian and some brits
@@nickdawson4817 i know Bury well, good to know there are others so close. I'll have to organise something when all this craziness is over 👍😃
@@7thson726 great look forward to it
Good stuff. I subbed
Cheers mate, thanks for the sub, welcome to the channel 👍😃
Great battle, where did you get your British flags from?
Thanks, glad you like it. 👍 i get all my Napoleonic flags from GMB Designs gmbdesigns.com/ highly recommend them
Un gros problème cependant :
De l'infanterie en ordre dispersé au milieu d'un passage à gué, utilise sans problèmes des armes à feu les pieds dans l'eau pour stopper une attaque de cavalerie lourde...
i've had to rely on google translate so hopefully its ok:
The heavy cavalry attack just fell apart becasue of my terrible dice rolling. That, and i forgot the heavy cav bonus they wold have gotten at the end of combat, so they would have won. but it was getting late 👍😀
Suggestion (règle optionnelle) :
FISHING : Yes FIRING : No
The Ford is a place in the river where the depth cross.
Only the Infantry and Cavalry units may cross a wading river at half of their speed.
A unit that ford can be shot at but will not able to fire.
(sorry for my English).
What scale are the minis? Looks great!
Thanks 😁 they are all 28mm
Please tell me where did you get the stuff for the map, it looks so cool!
Hi there, most of the terrain is either home made or from Last Valley Terrain on FB 👍
@@7thson726 thank you very much!
Excellent video mate I am working on the Zulu war but I have no idea about the rules
Thanks very much 👍😀 black powder is pretty easy to pick up i feel. There is a supplement for the Anglo Zulu war which should have all the unit statistics and special rules that you need 👍
7th Son cheers mate and when are you doing another one of these battles with your wife?
Hopefully in the next couple of weeks, got it all planned, just need the time haha
You play with your GF? Thats awesome.
I do (well, wife 😅) took 14 years but i got her in the end. In fact she'd honestly rather play this than other games now, probably because she keepa winning 😁
