Hey Brian- Just wanted to thank you for such an easy and comprehensive intro to the dash. Just picked up a 2023 Tacoma 4x4 TRD Off Road, Lunar Rock. You covered 10 times more than my salesman did. Brought my laptop into my vehicle and paused a few times until things sank in. Well done!

@@brianruperti i bought it new in 2020 December its a 2021 off road its my baby i love it
Hey thanks Brian. Just got me a 2023 tacoma.
Congrats!
Thank you so much. If you have a video on the CRAWL feature as you mention, I'd love to know.
Glad to help! No video demonstrating yet but the crawl control is just a low speed cruise control for off-roading in 4W LOW
Totally awesome, great job.
I use only voice commands with Apple CarPlay. No buttons needed.
Thank you!
Didn't know I could control the wiper speed. Thanks!
My pleasure!
Thank you
You're welcome
Great Video 😎👍
Thank you!
@@brianruperti Your welcome always 😎
Man you are good
Thank you
Thanks we just purchased a 23 Tacoma
Congrats!
Fantastic and informational video. Please address the high beam manual option. The button that is down on the left prevents manual high beam option. Thanks!
FYI - Left side - the blank you showed beside the auto high beam is for the forward facing camera. Great video!
Thanks for that!
376 miles!? My 2021 only gets around 298 max after I fill the tank. That’s nuts.
It’s a TRD Sport
Hey Brian, please let me ask you if you can make a tutorial for (How to release gear shift stick and unlock the steering wheel) in case of the car battery is dead and the car needs to be moved by?!
Also this is in the same case that the car has a push to start button.
Many thanks for your efforts.
Yes indeed
Great video, Brian! I have a 2022 Trd Tacoma….my issue is when I have Apple CarPlay on, and I have a destination that I am going to in the Map section, the volume voice is really low…I need to find out how to increase the volume of the voice giving instructions as it is set at a very low volume….If you have your radio on, the map verbal instructions will drowned out and the voice cannot be heard….Can you give a quick instruction on how to increase the voice volume when you’re in the map instructions…again, thanks for your nicely done vid! Sincerely, Armand
Hey thanks for watching. Try apps>setup>navigation settings>feedback volume
Awesome video! Thanks for the information. I have one question, I recently got a 2023 Toyota TRD Off road . I noticed when I press the brake to perform the “push-to-start” I hear a buzzing sound ? I was wondering if that is normal? Thank you in advance!
Thank you! Likely the starter relay or fuel pump but if you’re concerned run to the dealer and start up another Tacoma there.
Great video, Any chance you could do a Full Button tutorial for the 2024 Tacoma Off Road with Premium package
Oh definitely when we get them
Just got a 2023 didn’t want the non V6 for the 2024. Maybe in 2030 I’ll get the newer one. But thanks for this video the sales person at Toyota did not explain everything. I do have a BSM button? Will find out what it is.
Congrats! If you have BSM the button is down below the AC system left side of the rear window lever.
The odometer button is also used when clearing the "oil light" reminder, you know the one that makes everyone think there's something wrong with the engine. 😂
You can also reset it by going though the MID menus.
Thank you for this video.
I got you
Very helpful Thank you Brian
you’re welcome!
Just got this truck, and this video is super helpful. Thank you!
Congrats! Glad to help
Great job! very thorough, but I think you missed one.
If you turn off the truck. The radio and windows and fan all turn off.
What if you want to sit in the truck when it is off but want to listen to the radio.
* Push the START button without pushing the break. The radio will now be on while the truck is off.
* Push the start button 2x to turn it off.
IF you want the windows and fan to work as well.
*With Gear in neutral. Turn off the truck with the start button. Then shift into park. It will all be on.
*To turn off. Push the start button again.
Very detailed
I don't have to read the manual
I still suggest you read it front to back!
Freaking awesome video! I just bought a 2022 Tacoma yesterday and this is the first Toyota I've owned so very grateful for the explanation of all the buttons and stuff. Great job!
I do have 1 question - do you know how to increase the volume of Siri's voice using the CarPlay app when she reads back text messages? I've literally tried every volume adjustment on the stereo itself, and I"ve adjusted the volume settings on my iphone. Other vehicles I have owned with CarPlay installed have let me easily adjust her volume, but in this truck I cannot figure it out and its driving me crazy. I can barely hear her with the road noise. I would be forever grateful for some help fixing this issue. Thanks!
Thank you. Sorry I’m not sure what it would be if you already adjusted the phone volume and stereo volume. Perhaps it needs a software update, then a disconnect and reconnect.
Don't know if you already figured this out, but try the volume button on your steering wheel. This worked when I was on a call and couldn't hear the person on the other end. I was turning the volume button like I do on my GMC, but that didn't do anything. When I use the steering wheel volume controls, it worked.
🔥👌💪👍💯
This was a great help. Thank you. I will play in again while sitting in my taco. I’m very eager for your 22 pro, as that is what I have.
In mine I have a few more buttons than in this O R that you demonstrated on.
There is also one thing I’m curious about. When sitting in the drivers seat, looking up at the roof, then is a plastic thing the same shape as a button. It looks like a button or a cover for something or like a decorative cushion button. If you are looking up while sitting at the wheel it will be on your left, pretty close to the door. It has lots of little holes in it.
Well thank you again.
Oh! One more thing. I’m fairly close to Canada so I’m wondering all about how to best drive on a curvy icy highway. Would that be the all wheel traction button? I’ve only had it for a couple weeks and I don’t drive it everyday. (I’ve driven it 5 times so far). I find that it is hard to make a tight turn when it’s in 4 hi. So I turn it to 2 wheel right before I turn into my driveway or a sharp turn into a different street. When I go skiing , I may get stuck in deep snow. Which crawl control terrain would be recommended for being stuck in snow?
Again thanks so much. Sorry for the long length of this.
Glad to help. That may be your voice control microphone you’re referring to, but will check when I can.
Driving in an icy highway with curves is the same for every vehicle, slowly and carefully.
Remember not to drive in 4WD on dry pavement! That can bind up your transmission. Only use 4x4 hi or lo when you’re in slippery conditions. I’m assuming you know that.
Very tight turns in 4Hi will usually be a bit bity. I only recommend driving with tight turns like that if the conditions are very slippery. I also go back to 2WD when doing very tight turns, as very tight turns are at slow speeds. I’m not one to try and K-turn in a snowy forest. But for those who do, the trans will be grabby because you’re locked into 4WD. Hence why it’s natural to want to go to 2WD.
I hope that helps.
@@brianruperti yes thanks. I think you are right about that thing being a microphone.
I did not know to never drive in 4H on dry pavement.
I have to drive almost 80 miles every day. And about 35 miles each way is a curvy scenic byway that crosses rivers and swamps. So it is always subject to patches of glare ice due to the warm steam and fog rising into the damp bitter cold air. So now that I am informed I shouldn’t drive in 4hi, I wont and I’ll just continue mostly using my little Honda Civic with the front wheel drive. On days when there are snow drifts, then I will take the taco. But I don’t even go faster than 50 ever and closer to 40 for most of this stretch.
Another problem is at my job I have to drive up and down a very steep and icy forest hill to get to the parking lot at the bottom where it is a hairpin curve. It’s all good though. I am learning to work with it.
Sounds like a beautiful drive! Yes on dry pavement do not use 4x4. I recommend checking out the user manual and seeing what is in there for 4x4 tips as well!
@@brianruperti thank you so much. This is the best advice!
You’re welcome
thasks for the info!!! I just got a 2023 off road does this tutorial apply to my truck? thanks so much
Yes it does!
thanks very helpful@@brianruperti
@chugbugwarner8252 you bet
Thanks for such a detailed explanation of all the buttons. I have a question on the cruise control that I didn't see being covered here. The lever where you turn it on and off, pulls forward, but I haven't noticed anything happening when I pull it forward. Is that supposed to do anything?
Thanks for watching. I’ve never pulled it forward during use I will try next time I drive
@@brianruperti The manual says it should turn off the cruise, just like hitting the brakes, but mine did not turn off.
@user-zx6oy1ye3c interesting
mine turns it off. . .
Does it have hill assist? I see a lot of post which say it doesn’t and if stopped on hill, taking off is tricky as it rolls back
Does not
Thank you. I noticed my remote start system shuts down when I open a door. Is that normal?
Yes on current Toyotas. This is getting phased out
Brian,
I recently sold my 2012 Manual TRD Off-Road and it had a RSCA button to turn for Air Bag roll sensing and now this button is not present in my 2021 Manual TRD Off-Road. I have checked the owners manual on the web and forums and nothing is listed to denote it still has this feature in third gen Tacomas. It does show it as a feature for 4th Gen Tacoma’s. Could you provide insight into this feature in Third gen Tacoma’s.
Hello, as far as I am concerned it doesn’t have the ability to turn them off anymore in the 3rd gen, but I also have not received a direct answer either.
Hi, just bought a 2020 OF and to my surprise, i couldnt locate the traction control button anywhere in the vehicle, it auto disables when in 4LO but keeps intruding when doing serious sand dune offroading in 4HI it keeps cutting the throttle and applying the brakes in critical moments, pls help!!
Congrats! You should have a button on the left of the dash near the auto Highbeams button. Come to a stop, put it in park, press and hold the button (car symbol w skid marks) and that should do it. Lmk if this helps.
Does the 22 tacoma come with auto start stop feature? I do not like that feature at all.
It does not
Good demo….Q: does the Tacoma have a tow/haul mode?
Thank you. No just hook it up and go
It recommends using the ETC button when towing.
How would I locat the compass in the rear view mirror , I have a 2019 trd pro
If it has it, it’ll light up right away. If not, you won’t see it
Question on the MID any way I can display the time?
Not on this vehicle only on the infotainment screen
Is there a way to use The cruise control without using the following distance feature?
Yes, hold the cruise control button down for 3 seconds and on the dash, the green symbol will change to a symbol without the car and the arrow moves to the left. Now you’re in steady state (old school) cruise control
@@brianruperti Thank you again.
I got you
How do you engage Trailer Sway Control? It's my understanding that is standard on an off road. Thx
Not standard on the Tacoma sorry. At least in my region
@@brianruperti do u have a 2022 TRD Off Road? The Toyota ebrochure sez it is standard. Pg 19 of 24 of the ebrochure. I couldn't figure out how to paste the PDF in my reply.
@@brianruperti I think I found the answer. Trailer Sway Control is automatic and is part of the vehicle stability control button. Turning that button off will disable TSC. If engaged, the truck senses sway and applies braking to a single wheel to stabilize the trailer. There was a brief description of this on p 26 of the Quick Start Guide truck manual. There was also a discussion on Tacoma World forum. But it seems to be a misunderstood feature.
I stand corrected! Sorry! I’ll have to look into this for you because it was not apparent during my tutorial.
Thank you for this valuable info!
Ect power is when your pulling a trailer so you’re not being so hard on your engine
Thank you
Do it have any setting for the garage?
If it does it will be on the mirror
376 miles to empty?!!! 😲 DANG!! I just filled my 21 TRD Pro and I've got 293 to empty. 😭
The Trail Edition definitely looks better than the Off-Road and it sits higher with the 1.2" factory lift.
The Off-Road has more off roading gadgets however with crawl control and bilstein shocks.
So ask yourself which one you like more.
I bought a Trail and I absolutely love it.
Nice pick!
@brianruperti Thanks! I really like your videos by the way. Great reviews and indepth tips and tricks. You taught me allot about certain features in the Tacoma. Also your car washing video helped me out allot.
Just bought a 2022, the key type icon to the right of the temp/mode display keeps blinking red...?
That means the alarm is active
Thx u
How do you activate passenger airbag?
It activates when there is a passenger
How do I display the current mileage on my dash?
Press the stalk that’s poking out of your speedo glass
How do you get 376 miles to empty??? I be getting nomore than 300
Lots of easy driving and strategic braking. But this isn’t accurate because it was a new truck never really driven
Makes sense thanks for replying
@@alejandroTorres-dw4fq You’re welcome! There are a couple really good videos on hypermiling. It’s definitely a completely different mindset. It makes driving very technical. I squeezed 27.4 out of my truck. Then I went back to normal driving and spend a few extra bucks and actually enjoy my truck 🤷🏼♂️
One thing that kills me about this truck is the steering wheel not being able to skip or go back on songs on the steering wheel. Can't believe it doesn't have it. As small as it seems, it was the deal breaker for me for getting this.
It has it
Is there a rear window defroster in the Tacoma?
No
@@brianruperti Thanks. Enjoy your videos.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
