My Ram's corner pressure horribly is inefficient and i was having trouble cracking their defense or people were slipping out of my corner pressure all the time. So your tips were super helpful. Using your tips and with some practice hopefully i'll improve my corner game thanks bro
17:38 is one of the reasons why i love Ram , shes such a flexible character and you're able to just freestyle and do whatever you want. I hate being restricted
Great video! I really like how you illustrated the rps of Ram’s blockstrings. Not enough people resources show that and it’s very important thing to know.
Stumbled upon this a year later and the information is useful but something that could be added in future guides or w/e is for things like block strings/ combos if (and I dont know if GGST's combo search thing was in the base game) they were in the combo share thing in some way so people like myself who need to visually see the inputs and do them to learn.
I've been looking for your channel or socials since I saw you in the online tournaments weeks ago. I'm still just a noob to fighting games but I've gotten to floor 10 trying to watch your tournament matches and just trying to copy some of the movement. I'm super excited to find you actually have something like a youtube channel and a full guide! Edit: Do you have any advice for people who notice ram likes to run up and will counter grab you a lot? I've been trying to read them and just do a hop backwards then punish their grab whiff but it still messes my game up a lot.
Usually if someone is doing that you need to keep your offense tighter, use more low hitting attacks or do attacks just outside of throw range. Just out of curiosity, how did you end up finding my socials?
@@SQuirrel147 Thanks! I'll try and have better spacing in the future to avoid being grabbed so much but anyway, I found your socials just by looking at the smash gg user profile and googling your username which kinda led me to some people talking about you in youtube comments and your twitch. Maybe it's because I was specifically looking you up but youtube actually recommended this to me.
You can jump out of the blockstring without FD and the 6P is quite risky to do. What is the best answer for very jumpy opponents? Jump and jab em or air grab?
Thanks for the video bro im a dbfz player with 3000hours and started switched to strive 2weeks ago, playing ram only aswell. I managed to get to celestial/vip after failing the challenge only twice, but im still learning like i was doing wrong corner blockstring/my own versions where i would sometimes fail to pick up the sword, or opponents just jump or dash out, but finally i found a vid which explains easily the best corner blockstring :D subbed and liked
I tried to reproduce the inital loop from your video with the dummy but I can throw consistently when he's dashing in (i'm not using FD). Is it due to the new patch or am I too slow when I record the dummy doing dash + cs?
Honestly if they reduce Mortobato's damage, reduce the damage sword toss does to the wall (so it can't give her the mid screen confirms into wall breaks), remove the infinite block string and play a little with her meters (reduced RISC gain primarily) I think that'll be enough for a lot of her most significant issues. The existing tools Ram has work together such that any individual nerf to how they function would severely harm her, and while her corner pressure is amazing that's kind of the point since her options outside of the corner aren't that great outside of her being able to do some relatively nonthreatening pokes. I think that she needs to get less reward and that'll be enough of a nerf to keep her good and closer to the rest of the cast. But in exchange I want Slido to actually be made useful.
@@TheInfiniteDraw Doesn't even need to be in the form of nerfs, but usually it would. Mortobato, as Ram's only reversal, shouldn't be made harder to hit but it does give a massive momentum swing for how much damage it does. I'd say reduce the damage even a little bit to 150 (which would put it in the camp with other reversal supers) or if they really want to make Ram bullyable even go as low as 130, but the range and invincibility shouldn't be touched. The infinite blockstring can be removed by increasing the pushback 6H does on block, and reducing RISC gain is a general means of hitting a character's damage output without needing to significantly defang them. And this is me talking from the perspective of "Ram has to be nerfed" which isn't even necessarily my opinion. She has some really strong stuff that probably is too powerful. Being able to confirm a wallbreak from a properly spaced 5K is a certainly "why is this allowed?" type of thing (though some of the people probably haven't realized that you need it to be properly spaced) and Mortobato feels like Potbuster for how much it swings momentum thanks to the damage. But as a whole I do think that the meta should be given more time to explore how to fight against her before any game changing nerfs come, she's not like Sol where people are finding new broken stuff on a daily basis. When I think of a lot of the nerfs people suggest like gimping Morto's range or making her pokes have hurtboxes on the swords I can only think of how that would be overkill and probably make Ram helpless since she already gets bullied by rushdown so imagine if she were made afraid to cover the space in front of her out of fear of whiff punishes.
@@Zetact_ Nah her swords should have extended hurtboxes on whiff considering there's characters like Nago who are considered better than her that have them. But everything else you said i agree, literally her kit is redundant outside of like 2 specials which is why i feel they should nerf some of her stuff but alter the rest to give them actual use rather than just extra options.
Isn’t it possible for the opponent to throw Ram when she tries to reset her pressure after sword explosion? While labbing and during matches I’ve struggled to get the pressure so frame tight that when I go to restart my pressure again after the H Sword explosion with C.S, I usually get thrown if the opponent tries it.
It depends on how far you need to run up after the explosion happens. In the example in the video it is absolutely not throwable if you do everything fast enough. But the farther you need to run up the less frame advantage you have to work with. If you are really spooked about a throw just do an early 2K or something
What can Potemkin do against Ram H Sword and then jump back forward air dash S? She can air dash over Flick explosion, beat backward Megafist, auto block heat knuckle and beats Pot's jump P.
The blockstring on 3:26. I think you can get thrown out of it even if they are not FDing. I recorded myself doing it to test if and I could throw that. Is it just hard to time or something?
Hi! Appreciate the guide. Quick question in regards to the basic blockstring. Isn't it possible for a blocking opponent to throw Ram after the sword explosion and 2k, right as she tries to come up to pick her sword and close slash? I've labbed the string for a while and just can never get the close slash to be a true string after the 236H --> 2k, even at point blank range. Thanks again!
If you are doing it correctly it should not be throwable. You probably need to do things faster than you think you do? It is harder to time correctly the farther away you are so keep that in mind.
When doing that block string is the dash up close slash supposed to hit them mid air or after they land? Idk if I’m doing it right or not bc I never hit them with it midair (even in training)
Hey ISQ - I've been working on my ram (got to celestial in large part due to you and bachiru) and I wanted some of your thoughts on the potemkin matchup. I struggle to get the true block string after sword throw against pot and still pickup the sword without leaving room for or a throwable gap. I either fail to grab the sword or get thrown most of the time; but I don't seem to have this issue with any other character. Is this because of his size or?
Thanks for the helpful guide. I do enjoy playing Ram, however I am a Potemkin player, and I was wondering since he doesn't have a dash, can you use hammerfall to get out of the corner just as efficiently as a dash? Does anyone have an answer to that?
Hammerfall does not work. Potemkin can megafist out of the gap between close slash and sword toss however and he can megafist out of the gap between the sword explosion and whatever normal she presses. Hope that helps ^.^
How do you practice the actual dash up close C btw? I’m having trouble in real matches where I’m either not dashing far enough and I’m not getting my sword, or I’m dashing too far and getting punished by buttons
I don't mean to alarm you, but I think patch 1.10 changes to sword toss is based on this video. You can no longer trade sword explosion with 6p or DP. And they fixed something about the location of the sword after being tossed to the corner (i.e., you may be able to pick it up again after the YRC). That said, please make more videos downplaying Ram.
I think the swords should not embed in the wall and then explode on block or hit. That's how Eddie works so idk why the swords are different in that regard. They can trade as projectiles but the fact they give you full combo punishes on trade is kinda ridiculous.

I'm not a ram player but I love this as it helps me understand future Ram opponents better In the future, good video
