I bought the Deros 2 a couple of months ago from an online decorators company in a kit with 150 6” sanding disks for £530, so the sander itself cost about £400. Couple of weeks ago I had to sand several rooms that had been recently plastered and it was a joy to use the Deros, very little dust and absolutely no fatigue in my arm or hand from doing all that sanding. Although it’s a lot of money for a sander, I feel it’s definitely worth it over a more basic sander. Your review of the Metabo version is interesting. Both hand-i-craft Leo and Keith Rag n Bone Brown had problems with the speed controllers on their Deros 1’s, Keith’s was repaired twice. As you say its a 3 year warranty but for the money you expect it to last
@@geoffreycoan thanks for the great comment, I have had a very similar experience to you with sanding walls with the metabo, the difference it makes having a quality sander with fantastic dust collection makes it worth the initial cost. Yes, I saw their videos on it, I think there was also someone else who said they had that problem as well. Both of them bought the Deros 1 a few years before it was re-badged as metbo, so I'm expecting that they updated the part to stop it failing
The vibration looks to be the kicker for me between the two sanders. I am imagining fine finish sanding millimetres of filler that's barely covering scrim tape being more difficult with a little more vibration like that. I can see your hand being moved by the sander considerably more in the background of that cupped water shot while using the metabo.
To be honest, this is all it probably comes down to, as there is hardly anything between the 2. The mirka is a better option for long sanding periods, but if you don't do that, then the metabo is probably the better all rounder and price
@@sizif717 well I don't know many people with the metabo, but I do know that mirka upgraded the electronics themselves on the Deros 1 after the issues they had. The people I've heard of talk about the metabo have had no problems. I know one guy on here who has the 150 and 125 metabo version and uses them to sand motorcycles, he's loves them
@ Thanks! The Metabo is probably what i will get. It sells for around £300 in the UK at the moment. We have a Mirca Ceros in the workshop - and after 15 years of abuse - it starts to have some issues with the power. But it is really an extension of your hand, that is how comfortable it is to use.
I Would love to see a comparison with a NON Pro sander. (One look at my channel and you will see I am not a professional) I have the Dewalt DCW210N Cordless Brushless 18v XR Random Orbital Sander which works well for the low level products I am working with and wonder what difference it would make if I started making cutting boards for example ?
Well just looked that sander up, it has a 2.6mm orbit. If you got one with a 5mm orbit you would notice a hell of a difference with sanding, especially on pallet wood. Would remove more material faster. The vibration, fatigue and dust collection would also be better. I have a very similar to your DeWalt, and I thought it was great, until I got the metbo one in this video.
Good video James and great to see the vertical dust collection test still going strong! 👍
@@10MinuteWorkshop thanks Peter, don't think there is a better test out there that can beat your test method. 👍
Metabo bought the Mirca patent (first version)
Mirca has version 2.0
Thanks James, gives me some real food for thought before I buy my next sander. Great video
@@DGear86 it will be an interesting day when you purchase a sander! 😂
Helpful as always James

Have Metabo fixed the reliability issue of the Deros 1st gen.? I read that it has slightly upgraded electronics.

@@JamesManCave That will be my 2025 New Years Sale present to myself then. I think I am the only one in woodworking that enjoys sanding !!
I actually enjoy sanding myself! Now that I have these sanders, I put my headphones on and sand away for hours
