This easily looks like the best Fantastic Four movie, and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

    • @captcrais101

+CrazyFoo501 The Thing looks terrible. Reed is like 10 years older than Sue. The Torch acts terribly. The Jeweler is a bad version of the Mole man. This movie sucks.

CrazyFoo501 Actually the best Fantastic Four movie was made by Pixar and a year before the newer Fantastic Four movie. It's called The Incredibles and it's still amazing.

I agree and if the new movie is as bad as everyone says it is going to be, that means Brad Bird should be the guy to direct a Fantastic Four movie since he did the Incredibles.

  • @BlackburnBigdragon

Here's the thing about that movie. It has more heart in it than the three Fantastic Four movies that got released and it feels a LOT more like the comic book than those released movies do. That's why I actually enjoy the Rodger Corman version with all of it's shlock, bad practical effects, and cheesiness over any of the three released Fantastic Four movies. I recall that the director for this film actually went out and purchased a whole backlog of Fantastic Four comics and sat down and read them, using them as reference material for the movie. The directors for the released films, I understand didn't care less about source material. This movie in my opinion is still the closest thing we have to a Fantastic Four movie that's like the comics originally were.

I agree. And the effects are really good for the price tag and time. Compare this to see me of the Superman movies and how truly bad the effects were. This movie was light years beyond the tv superhero schlock yet didn’t “feel” like a theater release. Ultimately, it was far better than it deserved to be. The Thing suit was great imo.

    Alternative Timeline:
Roger Corman's The Fantastic Four was released worldwide on December 24th, and to everyone's suprise made 500 times its budget back. Critics praised it for its faithfulness to the source material, and a sequel was immediately greenlit. The Fantastic Four 2: The Mole Man, was released on October 21st, 1997. Now with more money, they hired Warwick Davis as the Mole Man and Tim Blaney as H.E.R.B.I.E. the Robot. The film featured a Mid-Credits scene in which someone known as Uatu the Watcher (Max Von Sydow) shows up at the Baxter Building to warn the Fantastic Four of an "incoming galactic threat", then a Post-Credits scene where a silver figure (Rutger Hauer) flies through outer space on a silver flying surfboard talking to an offscreen presence that the Earth "has much potential", setting up the third movie. The second movie was as beloved, if not more beloved as the first film, grossing 800 million dollars worldwide. The third movie, The Fantastic Four 3: The Silver Surfer, was released on August 8th, 2001, to celebrate 40 years of the team, becoming the first movie to gross 1 billion dollars worldwide. Based upon "The Coming of Galactus" 2-part story-arc, it showed the team going up against Galactus, in a memorable performance by James Earl Jones, who threatens the existence of the planet by consuming its energy, which will kill the Earth soon after. The 'Silver Surfer' as Rutger Hauer's character is dubbed, a herald to Galactus, decides to help the Four after being inspired by Alicia Masters, and is ultimately the one who defeats him, forcing Galactus to retreat, but not before cursing his former herald by trapping him on Earth. Despite the film being more of a success than Constantin Films thought it would be, the cast and crew decided to take a break from making these films, to make room for more superhero movies. At San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, Roger Corman announced an animated TV spin-off series in the works at Marvel, now re-owning the rights, to be released on Disney+, continuing the adventures of the heroes, with all the stars (minus Rutger Hauer and Max Von Sydow) set to reprise their roles. A special teaser for the shows first episode was teased with the announcement, revealing the villain to be the Molecule Man, and is ready to air on January 1st, 2023.

Have to hand it to Roger Corman..... They actually gave some plausible reasoning for some things that just happened for the fuck of it. I mean, Reed getting grey hairs for _aging_, and Ben getting super strength because he was _already_ muscular. Holy shit, Roger Corman's still alive, right? Let him make the FF sequel for 2017 and I bet he'd George Miller the living shit out of it.... I'm not joking, he would probably make actually make a good FF movie if he had the standard comic book movie budget.

You know, the story and script are actually quite good. They show the Fantastic Four getting their powers, the connection to Doom, the plan makes sense, the Four have to deal with the new situation while also trying to take care of each other and they do good. With a slight rewrite and a bigger budget, they should use this script for a movie today.

I really like this movie. It's easily available on TH-cam. I don't think that they ever said his last name before he turned in to Dr. Doom, so you can't say for certain that his name was Doom, plus, the Thing looks pretty good for a low budget 1994 movie. The jeweler is kind of silly, but if you cut him out, this would be a pretty good movie. I like all the jokes, the actors, and the lighter feel. It is definitely the best fantastic four movie!

The "Snob" is right, this movie does have a "Masters of the Universe" feel to it...
The "Thing" costume looks like it could pass off as a Disneyworld animatronic, at best... Cool "Reservoir Dogs" reference, and the final scene of the episode was very clever... "Grizzly II".

And most of the effects were done physically which is a lost art in itself. Even stunt work these days have more CGi doing the work than the actors doing them as doubles.

I ended up with a copy of this when the Jessica Alba Fantastic Four movie was coming out. Found it on the market place where they sold dodgy dvd's (or vcds at the time) it had the box art for the (at the time) new Fantastic Four movie and my young 12 year old brain didn't question the fact that it had yet to be released in theaters.
Got it home and found this movie... I was disappointed but still, the movie had its charm and is easily the best fantastic four movie to be released so far... Which is pretty scary when you think about it.
