      @@HighMarshalBiggusDickus that's good to hear! Gosh that's quite the question and frankly worth a video tbh! If you have the money for a big box then the way answer is but into the dark. It's a full starter set and comes with the core rulebook and dice and barricades measuring gauges etc.
      If you're looking to do it super cheap then you're honestly good to go with just these free rules! The lite rules are 90% of the game and the marines are very strong. Coming soon is the annual which will contain 6 full teams. Otherwise I'd recommend checking out wahapedia for the rules of the faction you're interested in.

    Also, the Intercessor Sergeant with Auto Bolt Rifle and Bolts seems pretty good. Two Shoot actions, hitting on 2s, re-rolling 1s, 4/5 damage. And with a power sword, he still can punch stuff in melee, though of course not nearly as well as Assault Intercessor.

      Played this last night. Fire-power was unreal. Gave it the team stealthy and accurate. Stealthy gave me way more advantage than durable would have. And accurate was awesome paired with the lethal 5+ from the scope. Always getting crits, meaning no cover which forced rolls of only 2 dice. Almost guaranteed to get 8 wounds through each shoot attack.

      I think this is cool, but if you want to go ham, then doing a Bolt rifle, Vengeance Scope, and Bolts with Methodical as a chapter tactic is potentially disgusting. With the relevant ploy, you have 2 shoot actions hitting on 2s, re-rolling one dice, 4/5 damage, lethal 5+, P1, and you can Overwatch again on 2s. Then when he dies, you can use Wrath of Vengeance, since methodical will work on that again, hitting on 2s. This is only if you want to go whole hog into the Sergeant, and I don't think it is the most efficient use of resources, but it's pretty hilarious firepower.

    I'd like to see GW start making upgrade sprues for killteam that are sold separately. Like the ones for incursers and pathfinders. I know they won't because *money* but would be awesome to customize and personalize your team's more.

    I really like the looks of this team set up, and it's a good way to use the Black Templars in Kill Team when they didn't get their own rules specific to them.

    This was my first choice for operatives. I'm planning to do different operator configurations for different chapters. Blood Angels are all assault, while Dark angels are all shootee, and one chapter to be determined mixed.

    I once beat a Custodes KT with these guys. My roster was 1x Intercessor Warrior with Bolt Rifle (Reclusiam Blessed Bolt+Vengeance Class Scope), 1x Assault Intercessor Grenadier (Tilting Shield), 1x Assault Intercessor Sergeant with Plasma Pistol and Chainswords, and 3x Assault Intercessor Warrior. Managed to kill 3 out of 4 Custodes, they're tough SOBs I give you that. I killed the first one on the beginning of Turn 2.

    For the Stalker Bolt Rifle - I was thinking about taking it on the Gunner. You still can move-dash-shoot with the grenade launcher, but for that occasion when you do stay in place and shoot twice Stalker will add that little bit of damage. Plus a better Overwatch. What do you think?

      I would disagree, because the Gunner can shoot both his GL and his Boltgun in the same activation - having the Stalker really cuts down on his movement options and hamstrings him. Would suggest BR instead.

      Seems like autobolt rifle is a better choice. Dont want to stack any equipment on that guy either, as its putting too many eggs in one basket. That gunner is priority target

      I agree. Like all SM, he has 3 APL, when you need to move, you move/dash/shoot the aux. When you don't need to move farther than a dash, you can shoot twice and still move up to 3 inches. You're only sacrificing anything when you need to move 3.1 to 6.0 inches. Not much to give up for guaranteed AP1. Put two on your roster, one with stalker, one with auto, and you can take the auto when facing invuln saves.

    Normal rifle intercessor sergeant with power fist / power sword could also be good. Switch tilting shield for second reclusiam bolt again, hits on 2s for ranged

    I'm no expert, definitely no where near Ace's level but at least initially I'm liking intercessor sergeant with abr, power weapon and blessed bolts, gunner with abr, 2 intercessors with bolt rifles and scopes, grenadier and an assault intercessor. A little more thematic for my smurfs too.

    Circle Hello!
    Stealthy (retain 2 normal or one crit save in cover) & Hardy (crit save on a 5+) appeal to me for damage mitigation.
    I’m going to be running demo games of KT21 in the near future, so I’ll probably mirror match this team.

      In the podcast we go over Stealthy, and both of the pros basically say it's useless. Well, not useless. There was only one useless chapter tactic! But all of the others are overshadowed by the few standouts.

    Great guide, I'd make two squads of veteran intercessors for 40K, one ranged and one melee, only have the power fist sergeant so I'll make do. Went a bit extra on the build and paint jobs with them as well so have a nice looking team with zero additional effort.

    I honestly feel like double shooting on intercessors hitting on 2s with the sergeant for 4/5 p1 lethal 5+ seems way better than assault intercessors

    A thought about raider: if you start your activation in engagement range of an enemy operative, can you use Raider to charge, but not leave engagement range of that operative, thus activating Assault Doctrine for the reroll when you Fight?
    Edit: oh and you can add Aggressive to get Rending as well. Raider + Aggressive full Assault Intercessors sounds fun.

    Interesting to see the tilting shield in the take all comers list because it seems like it would be very matchup dependent.

      @@DarrinSK tilting shields are a reference to the small shields on the shoulders that knights would wear while jousting (another term for jousting is tilting). They fit in the area where the chest armor meets the armor on the arms, which is a vulnerable spot. In 40K if you see those little shields on the upper outer chest on models those are tilting shields. A lot of the time tilting shields are a spot to put heraldry.

    @Glass your comment about Ceaseless always being on, and the assault bolter being better than P1. Are you potentially mixing Ceaseless and Relentless in your head? I did the same thing not too long ago, easy mistake to make. I think the doctrines kind of cover what ceaseless is doing in this case.

    Good stuff. The Crusader squad does not have a plasma pistol. The sword brother can be built as an Intercessor, but that cape is too good.

    I think on a basic roster you will find a lot of lists factor for both a full 6 man assault squad or a full man ranged squad.

How did you get to the decision that you would need another operative engaged in order to charge out ? I don't understand can you help me get this straight?

      Honestly your best bet is to jump into my discord for this explanation as it's a little bit in-depth. You need to fully rear the charge rules as it states in there when you are allowed to leave engagement range and charges etc

      @@GlassHalfDead Dunno, Champion of Mankind seems like a guaranteed 1VP against hordes to me, with a potential for a second. If you get 3-4 kills on a single dude, which isn't hard with Bolter Discipline, stuff like Guardsmen has to way of catching up. And note that you don't have to achieve the first bullet point to get the second.

    Black Templars don't have a Plasma Pistol, but they do have a flamer pistol which is also an option instead of a heavy bolt pistol on AI Sergeant, and also they have Power Fists in the box.

    For a minimum squad of 6 I picked up a 40k starter set again and one of those 40k intro booklets that comes with a necron warrior and intercessor. As a 40k Necron player it seemed the cheapest route to go for my particular case. Id say its the cheapest route to go in general as you can sell of the Necron halves and put it towards a box of Intercessors or AI to fill out your roster. Trying to buy all of that seperately just seems like wasted money. And now I have both specialist and a AI Sgt and am ready to go

    Sorry I'm completely new and thinking abount getting into Kill Team to play only with a friend (no clubs, tournaments etc). By "normal intercessors" you mean Primaris Intercessors right? Sorry its all new to me and I need clarification to make sure I buy what I need and not something else (like Heavy Intercessors)

      By normal intercessors we mean "intercessors" and "assault intercessors", the two types of intercessors that can be used in the Intercession team. These are primaris models, yes.
      Things like Heavy Intercessors can't be used in this team, they are their own compendium team if you want to run them but there is no cross-over with this specialist team and them :)

      @@GlassHalfDead Great! thanks alot. I'm browsing through my local online stores in Poland and I was looking for "Intercessors" aaaand there was no such thing. There were Space Marines Assault Intercessors and Space Marines Primaris Intercessors (and Heavy and Blood Angels Death Company Intercessors??) hence the confusion.. because I was kind of expecting "Space Marines Intercessors" without the Primaris or Assasult bit.

    Did I miss what kind of gun the Gunner should have for the take all comers list? I think you said Auto Boltgun, correct?

      Auto boltrifle is generally the best option. There will be times when the bolt rifle is better but for a tac, the gunner should get the auto, yes

      Sadly not, no. It has to be a bolt rifle or a stalker bolt rifle. Quite specifically NOT the auto bolt rifle xD

      Feel like hiding from shooting at range is easier than hiding from shooting at 6" or from melee.

      definitely, especially with their lethal 5+ equipment they can take on 3 dudes. Bolt rifle, scopes (3ep) and defensive perks (crit reduction and crit saves on 5+) and you can just outgun almost every other faction.

      Honestly I was thinking taking the assault intercessor Sergeant and then five shooty guys giving A lot of them combat blades. I think stealthy or duellists and the one that lets them disengage would be pretty good too. because if they get charged they can retreat out of engagement range for only one AP and double shoot into the face of whatever just chargd them assuming they survive. So you got a team of guys that are pretty defensive and melee but are also to shoot and can disengage for only one AP.

      @@DarrinSK well, they don't. They're not dying to 2 plasma crits, they can remain deadly at even 1 wound, they can kill a GEQ plasma or melta dude in 1 go on average, two against Marines.

    I wonder if one would go with the fist, if then range sarge could be useful - you are fishing for crit with fist for 7 damage either way, so 4+ is not that different and blessed round with autoboltrifle (ceaseless, 2+, 4/5) could be very reliable.

    Rapid is equivalent to guardsmen move move move, correct? Just no spending CP and permanent across entire game?

      Aside from your sergeants not being able to have the same loadout you can. Online bits store got you covered on another plasma pistol in case

      You could absolutely do that. Each squad box comes with 2 pairs of identical sprues. Each pair will make a set of 5 guys with the options, so you can assemble 2 squads of 5 or 1 squad of 10. That's why grenade launchers are 1 per 5 guys in the 40k data sheet. Each of you will take a pair of sprues from each box so you each get 5 guys of each type and all the weapon options.

    So the grenades (1x Frag 1x Krak) are free of EP cost, and limited, so no others can be taken, but how does the Auxiliary Grenade launcher work? I assume it's not limited, as it doesn't say so in it's profile, so can you fire it every round, in addition to the grenadiers grenades?

      The aux grenade launcher is not limited. It can be fired each round.
      It's good, but because it doesn't have indirect it basically plays like a rocket launcher.

    I had to laugh when you said P1 you have to roll a 6 it may not always happen, while Ceaseless is always in effect. technically, you have to roll a 1... so it logistically has the same chance of being 'in effect'...

      I found I didn't need ceaseless as I was taking a doctrine each turning point. For those rerolls. Used the int sgt and gave him scope and bolts, paired with accurate and stealthy. Stealthy done way more work than durable would have. Was able to straight up prevent 6 damage from one crit, and used the extra normal save on 2 occasions just on my leader. Hitting on 2s, doctrine giving 1 reroll, 5 up lethal removing a save and giving no cover to force those rolls. He became a huge target but I ended up taking out 3 or 4 corsairs with him before he went down. I'll take 1/3rd of a team vs 1/6th as a win.

      @@kanemurray3790 I always preferred the standard Bolt rifle, especially on the Sgt... With the doctrines, you're right Ceaseless loses some value... While P1 does not.

    For the couple "peons" on the team, why do you prefer the Assault Interecessors over the regular Intercessors? Are Auto Bolt Rifles with Bolter Discipline just not stacking up against the Chainswords as well?
    (Thanks for the earlier reply about a plasma pistol and power weapon combo. I saw the note on the PDF saying that wasn't kosher, and deleted my question apparently right before you sent the answer)

      I think it's because if you are playing well and moving towards objectives and the like, you will eventually hit melee, in which case you really really want to not use fists. Against far shootier lists in open terrain set ups, you probably want a few guns, but primarily, its about moving up and smacking things with this team to claim objectives. The number of models you have only being 6 is also probably a big factor.

    Your comment of Ceaseless vs P1 seemed a bit odd. P1 only comes into effect if you roll a 6 and identically Ceaseless only comes into effect if you roll a 1. I would argue P1 is the better of the two, each has a ~16% chance of having an effect on your shoot action, and while Ceaseless may give you an extra hit (or two), P1 guarantee's one less defence dice.
    With a bolter :
    If you roll 4 dice and get 3 hits and a crit. With P1 your opponent can only possibly defend two of the four hits. Minimum damage 6
    If you roll 4 dice and get 3 hits and a 1. With Ceaseless you can reroll the 1 into a fail/hit/crit but your opponent can still defend against 3 of them. Minimum Damage 0 (3 if you reroll into a hit)
    If you rolled a 1, 2 hits and 1 crit. With P1 minimum damage is 3, with Ceaseless Minimum is 0 unless you roll into a hit then its 3

      Right now it seems that they are the go to squad. Stronger than Phobos (not sure how many top top players have been playing Phobos though), and unsure about Legionary, but probably the same or better.

    Did you saw that the methodical chapter tactic lets you ignore the "heavy" in stalker rifle without taking out the AP1? It says "all" or "any" meaning you can choose what to ignore. Basically you could take 4 intercessors (maybe more would be a waste), with a 3+ 3/4 AP1 weapons that can shoot twice. (+2 if you pick a sargent)

    So, Black Templars don't have sergeants, their squads are led by a member of the Sword Brethren. So if I stick to BT do I use the larger base that SB's are supposed to use?

      I mention it in the hobby bit that what I like to do is put my models on the smallest base I'm going to be proxying them for (in your case a marine is on a 32mm base0, and then if I ever want to run him in 40k (I basically never play it, but I like to be able to do it in theory!), then just blutac him to a 40mm base!

    These seem to mulch just about any other kill team. Huge wounds, loads of damage, lots of movement.
    I don't see anything in the Into the Dark box standing a chance against them.
