The damage limitation tip is an interesting one. Having never raced IRL it's not something you ever really consider, maybe on instinct in a club event to avoid a head on collision of sorts, so that was a fresh look at things. Handbrake to minimize damage, who knew :D (not me). The others are pretty intuitive I reckon, never been taught anything or even tried to actually study but they have made a way into my system somehow. Good to know it gets approval from someone who knows what they are doing haha. Way 2 (quick tug) and 4 (understeer) seemed related to me at first but after a second watch one seemed more about corner entry and the other about reacting post entry but they still feel somewhat similar to me. Are there any other small nuances between the two?
Rainbow thank you for your comment, for sure these are things you learn with experience so it is a testament to your ability that you know most of them. Way 2 and 4 are similar but a quick tug is something you do intentionally to manoeuvre the car where 4 (understeer) is reacting to the car not gripping round the corner how you wanted. If I watch some of my R2 onboards, I basically hoover over the handbrake in tight corners in case I get understeer as it cuts down the reaction time by more than half!
Wow, thank you so much for these tips Jon, never knew handbrake can be used for DAMAGE LIMITATION of all things so that was new. The others came to me personally pretty much with instinct but it is interesting to know that a quick tug can actually damage a differential in RWD/AWD IRL so thank you for that as well.
Mustafa Hussam I am glad you enjoyed it! I should have said also that the quick rugs are intended to be used whilst still on the throttle, which can cause havoc with the rear axle being a driven one! Thanks for your comment 👍🏻
@@JonArmstrongRallying Well that's kind of obvious to anyone who knows how a differential works lol but thank you for the clarification. By the by, I have a suggestion, would you be averse to making a video about launch control?
All of your videos are very informative Jon. Thanks for them. With respect to Dirt series tutorials, I see only two kinds. 1, how to drive, be clean and finish while being medicore. 2, Professionals flying through, chaining turns and setting world records. However, I seem to be caught in the middle, I can do a clean run, but am unable to do those sweet perfect turns no matter how much I practise. I feels like I am missing something somewhere and I cant point my finger on it. Also, no youtuber does seem to show how to transition from 1-to-2 Any advice on intermediate tips? I do not want to call it that as it would end up being a tips and tricks question. But I am looking to be able to take even lower model cars, but push them to their and my limits.
Hey, does the handbracke go fucll lock in real life like on or off or do you have apply force and the more you pull the more it brakes? Also, is it amplifyed or your strengh? (Talking about a rally car)
Can you describe from which angle you should pull the handbrake. The Winekl can also be transferred to a watch, e.g. when the hairpin curve goes to the right, which is drawn from around 9-10 a.m. Can you describe it like that?
Great video. I'm currently using a TH8A in sequential with sequential knob as a handbrake. How much of a diffrence will it make if I shell pit the cash for an analog handbrake?
Ik Im a year late but if you're on PC you can just use it in analog mode and rotate the h shifter plate 90° as if you were using the sequential plate. The deadzone when you're not in gear on the h plate acts like an axis and then you can set it to be an analog handbrake. They make custom plates so you don't accidentally lock it in gear but honestly I've never used one and I kinda like having the option to fully engage the handbrake and then lock it as it I'm parking lol. Just fyi this trick does not work if you actually use the stock sequential plate ik I'm a year late but who knows gotta spread the knowledge
I need to move mine closer, but don't really have a viable option. So, I have to lean forward a shade to reach it, even with the seat all the way forward.
Hi guys. I am new in this sim stuff. Now in DR 2.0 the engine stalls when I am using handbrake? What am I doing wrong? Actually when I am braking hard, downshifting from 4 to 3rd, it stalls too. Can you help me with this? Thanks in advance
It was helpful bro but I don't know why I'm even watching this, I need to learn to rally with no handbrake... Cuz all my rally games are on console and not pc
You mean if the handbrake was analog in dirt rally 2.0, right? Because even if you have a proper handbrake controller with analog axis, the game only recognizes it as analog in the menus. Inside the car, it's an on/off switch. I feel scammed by codemasters because handbrakes are only useful in this type of game and they let the game go on with such a huge bug.
Been an expert of the quick tug for years; not with a handbrake though.
Steve Lane 😂😂
😂😂
@@JonArmstrongRallying appreciate the really helpful video by the way!
What a great video, I wouldn't have thought of half of these things. Thanks!
Hell yea Jon solid stuff mate! Hella interesting to hear insights to rallying such as this one💪🏼
Glad you enjoyed it brother! I included some Finland footage just for you 😜😂
@@JonArmstrongRallying haha yea that was very much appreciated 😄
Thanks, great video. I'm new to Dirt Rally 2.0 and have been really good at damaging the radiator, so I'll try and remember tip #5 :)
Great way to explain what you are doing in the car and in the game. Love it

Mustafa Hussam for sure! I could make a video about this with my rally car when I next get to drive it 👍🏻
@@JonArmstrongRallying That would be so helpful, thank you so much and I'm looking forward for it.
@@JonArmstrongRallying you can still use the handbrake on awd, rwd cars but with the throttle off. Yes?
Thanks for breaking it down second by second from inside and outside the car
Great! Perfekt Video thank you :-)
Excellent video, great format
really helpful, thank you
Very informative! Thanks
Thank you! very helpful
Glad it was helpful!
Hey Jon. Nice vid bro. When is the next club event in DR 2.0-- I need to finish this one!!
Thanks Sasquatch! There is an event on at the moment, started today in DiRT eRally! 😏

Your stalling the engine because you need to use the clutch if slowing down massively
