$200 is still basically a third of what is being asked for Cubase 13 Pro and a year's use of Pro Tools Ultimate subscription. It'll be worth updating once the transition into 7 has peaked.
I switched to Cubase during their recent sale. Getting Cubase at 50% isn't much more than Studio One's new price. The Cubase yearly updates are 3 times less than Studio One's yearly updates. In about 2 years someone can break even. After that it's all savings with Cubase. I don't need any of the extra Studio One 7 features.
A very fair take on the situation. I decided to jump ship to Bitwig Studio about halfway through the S1 v6 lifecycle when it was clear the Fender buyout was affecting things. No regrets, I feel like now I'm paying for features musicians want, rather than what accountants think will make money.
Stem separation within the DAW is a great feature, and the Clip Launcher is a great alternative workflow very useful for composition, not necessarily for EDM or live performance specifically. I have a BitWig license that I used exclusively to have access to that workflow, and now having it integrated into Studio One makes other DAWs pretty much unnecessary.
My genre is classic rock / worship - feels like PreSonus is leaving me behind in focusing on EDM type stuff. No reason to leave Studio one yet, but I also own Logic Pro and Pro Tools, so options are available.
After working for 8 hours with the new Studio One Pro 7, (compared with the Studio One 6.4), i can say that by far the BIGGEST improvement, is the ergonomics and visibility ! HUGE difference, to help you see the various "events", and manipulate and arrange them much more easily. Even in the smallest view ( all view window) you can see and move events 500% more easily. So arrangement and composition is much more easy. Also , for those that they have and use splice , its much easier to incorporate a sample in your song. I have tried the rest of the features (global transport , launcher , impact edit view, tempo detection & stem separation) and i can say that although they are very useful , someone will use them from time to time and not always. From the above i found more useful the Impact edit view, which lets you put the kicks, snares, much more easily.
@@brennyC no, i saw the same videos , and because i made the comment in one , i decided to put it on the other videos as well. i probably will. For me i have 6.6 pro. i didnt get the subscription so i dont have all the instruments and add ons that i was hoping to have. i will with the upgrade. the orchestra is priced at $99 alone. so with all that stuff included worth the $150 upgrade for me. but its down to personal taste and if its worth it to someone else. its a personal decision imho. to be fair presonus needs to keep up with Logic with their production tools like the synths. this just solidifies it for me. they needed to do an all-in-one solution for that. now they have it. the synths etc was all they were lacking as far as production tools.
if they can get a mellotron and B3 organ and a selection of electric pianos like clavinet, rhodes etc. im staying with studio one. that's all they need to get. they got everything else.
Agree with you 100%. Just the 12 month of free upgrade pissed me off. That's the reason I stop buying Waves plugin. Also the upgrade pricing is not fair. $149 for Artist or Pro users when the new price is $199?. It just seems like a money grabbing BS. I record real instruments and vocals. Don't need Splice or Sterm separation. Global transpode? Meh. In my 15 years of making music I can count with 1 hand the times I have changed the key of a song. When that was the case, I record everything again.
I’m not updating until I can “ mirror 🪞 plugins “ aka 🔗 link plugin settings across grouped tracks like in pro tools or better. For atmos mixing it’s very useful and needed for mastering atmos. Also great for tasks that can’t be achieved in the same way on a bus. Like dubbed wide guitars going through vst guitar amp sims. It’s better to dial them in together in real time than going back and forth with settings.
I'm very new to Studio One and in fact all DAW's. Perhaps I'm naively optimistic but I like what I'm seeing so far. I've decided to go for the 19.99 a month subscription option in case I change my mind in a few months. Appreciate your content.

The fact that the Bus freeze and track freeze feature wasn't included in this new release will keep me from updating. The cpu handling in S1 is not great. Busses are exceptionally prone to heavy CPU draw. There is a clunky macro workaround for this, but on Protools, it is one toggle.
Under the browser tab inside studio one u can click on "files" and it'll access all the files in you're computer that u gave access to in the settings tab. Mr Green, very good overview, I’ve found someone who asks my language about S1. I’m nosy happy with 7 for my methods. Thank you. Where do I find more of your you tube for recording and playing?
I get the distinct impression that the underlying coding of SO makes it very expensive to recreate some of the basic features that other DAWs have enjoyed from almost the get go. For example using a jog wheel to scroll in increments of less than 1 full bar. So they focus one doing more with what they have, rather than tinker with the platform too heavily. Thus had enough and crossgraded to Cubase 13 for the great price of £152. I still love the simplicity of SO and will continue to use it for mixing stems, but too many limitations for MIDI that are falling on deaf ears and especially now in 2024, and effectively double the price for a 2 year upgrade, there's no excuse. I feel sorry for Joe Gilder as he must feel completely sidelined by the direction v7 has gone. Good video summing it all up.
I don't really get the "hate". For audio recording I'm already very happy, I love how easy it is to incorporate hardware gear and recording and mixing is already a breeze. So really it's going to be the Ableton crowd they will try and capture next. All good with me, I'll buy it to support Presonus. I'm hoping for an improved / pro Faderport 16.
Yeah, I don't get it why companies charge close to full price for an upgrade, when the upgrade only has partially more functionality than the previous version. Should definitely be a fraction of the price, such as 25-35% of the full product.
I crossgraded to Cubase 13 a couple of months back and I couldn't be more happier to be honest. I gave Studio One a fair chance but it just got worse and worse after version 5, and even a lot of the plugins on V5 were really basic.
Thanks for confirming that the v7 upgrade just feels... meh. I'm on v5 so im still considering upgrading to 7 to get all the new v6 features as well, but not sure if i want to upgrade every year again. The biggest feature to me is the global transpose, as i like to experiment with different keys. I do have a remark about the splice integration tho: it looks like you get 2500 (and maybe more?) samples included and the subscription plan is if you want the full splice library. At least that's how i understood it on their website, but you make it sound like you must get the splice subscription for it to be usable. I guess you have already upgraded, so maybe you can give more insight?
It’s a decent update but I am not sold on recommending it just yet.. I think there’s an interest for anyone in the EDM or loop based music. The Splice feature gives you around 1800 loops/one shots from what I could count for free. The quality of the free samples I would say is of similar quality to what you already have from Presonus. The subscribers get the full library of 25k samples which I’m sure has better options.. for free Drum samples (loops & one shots) you get 625.. I’ve not heard any that I would go looking for again. I think the kick sounds are usable but there’s some wild stuff there 😅 they announced it like a free 7 day trial and then you end up paying for it. Splice integrates to your browser tab so it’s easily accessible. I’m poking around at the Launcher tool and it is…. Clunky? I’m sure right now it’s just my fault but it doesn’t seem to be as similar to Ableton as I thought it would be 🤔
Honestly if it is less than "2,500+ Premium, Royalty-Free Samples" it would be just false advertising on their side... And if the library then is 25k, that's far from the advertised "millions" lol. As i just do this as a hobby and don't earn money with it (yet?) i guess i'll wait a few more months
