Facebook Messenger Notification but No Message FIX

- If you continue to get notifications on your Facebook messenger app even though you’ve already viewed them there is a way to fix this. Chances are you have a message that you’re not seeing somewhere in a sub folder. It’s very common for people to forget about their message request folder. To view your message request folder click on, your profile emoticon in the very top left-hand corner and it should be on that menu.

Another reason you could be getting notifications on your Facebook messenger app is because you have unviewed messages in the marketplace section. Sometimes you have to actually click the marketplace tab and go into the messages that way. Depending on how Facebook has updated the operating system on your phone will depend on how you get there. it seems Facebook is constantly changing a lot of these settings with their sub folders and message icons.

The issue I’m having is when I’m on Facebook and on the messenger icon it shows 1 message. When I click on the messenger icon and it takes me to my messenger page it doesn’t show me any new messages. Any suggestions on how I can get it off my Facebook page. Thanks

Same but I noticed that someone in my messenger had "Reply" on their profile page. It still didn't do anything when clicked.
I think this happens when someone likes something from a past conversation. It seems hard to find when this happens.

Me too! Found it on left navigation bar under “communities”. One of them had an unread message.

@@trinidan_12login on desktop version this will fix it… it’s a glitch on the app you don’t have a message but if you login on the desktop it’ll show you a new message

Solved it!! For me it was Messenger left navigation bar under “communities”. One of the communities had an unread message.

Seems like you helped a lot of people here but I already knew @ tried that before searching the net and finding your video! My issue is it not showing on the home screen bit when I open Facebook it shows! I have even uninstalled both apps and re-installed
I just had this problem with the Facebook app I just uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it worked
Unfortunately neither worked for me. It still states that I have one unread message.
I just found the issue with mine, and I bet it’s a lot of peoples problem. Go to your most recent messages, long press on the message group, press mark as unread. Then open the message and that should do it. If not, try this on several of your most recent messages. Good luck!

Any one else messenger playing up I deleted the hole conversation where u can see all chats u had with different ppl but soon as delete thst one chat it it shows up again deleting app don’t work as still does it when re download

Thank you so much it was the message requests and I had about 40 in spam, selected all, deleted them now notification gone. 🎉🎉🎉

In the notification bar I saw a message request
But when I went to messenger there was no message
When I clicked on the notification message request it took me nowhere.
It's Facebook's trick to block our communication. I wrote dozens of messages to people i know (but we are not friends on FB), but 99% of them don't even see my messages. I also know some other ordinary people having the same problem.
Tried all this still doesn't work
And I have this problem on fb come messages all the time, but there is nothing when I open.

My messenger is okay, what's not okay is my account, it doesn't receive notification. But when i try another account on the same device it works just fine, and when i try my account on another device same thing no notification or no pop up.
My issue is it showing me and my replies as a notification as if I need to be reminded that I sent it

Yeah, Marketplace is the culprit. Can't get rid of the blue dot. Can't delete Marketplace group conversations either.

Sadly none of this applied to me. This happens on the website and the messenger. No matter if sending or receiving the moment a message happens with another user, that icon shows up

What if it shows on FB as messages but nowhere else? Not on the icon or any hidden where you suggested.
Login on the desktop / laptop version & you’ll see what glitch or message is unread
You’re fix did not work for me. My problem is on my iPad. I don’t show two messages on my iPhone, but it constantly shows that I have two unopened messages on my iPad and I have no idea why.

9/2024: I had to do all this then delete the app, reinstall and a requested message appeared that wasn’t there prior. I deleted that and it was fixed.
I have a friend that I have not blocked or whatever but am cannot see or get a notification she sends me a message? But when I open her name our conversation is there?
that notification is always on there when i send one and not just receive one. it's so annoying. i have to constantly look and see if someone else sends me a message.

Hi Minn, issue I am dealing with lately is, when I send a message I now get a notification I sent a message, can you think of anyway how to turn this off, If someone sends a message we get a notification as usual, but this has crept in and is annoying.
I hate it because i have tried all this and more and still have the notification, i literally delete and stop using facebook app because of this, out of frustration more than anything

Alot of times when it happens to me i sign into messenger from a different/"back up phone" an was able to find the message BUT it was the message i sent to someone but messenger though it be good to show me notification for it

It's not an error. Therefore protest and spread the knowledge of this sabotage that comes from FB. Years ago, messaging worked well, but not after 2020.... guess why...
