Ireland prepares for Pope visit amid Catholic abuse and adoption scandals

  • The last time a Pope visited Ireland, it was John Paul II in 1979. Almost half the population turned out to see him. Back then around nine out of ten Irish Catholics would attend weekly mass. Contraception, divorce and abortion were illegal. It will be a very different Ireland Pope Francis will visit this time. While there will be crowds, they're expected to be well down on 39 years ago, as scandal after scandal has taken its toll on the Church's moral authority.

Here in the UK there we have the Freedom of Information Act. The Republic of Ireland clearly needs something similar which would force these people to release their records.

Mary is evidence that even the strongest of people experience lifetime traumas because of the destructive treatment they received from the church. At her age I can't see her EVER resolving her fears. Imagine what those who were no so strong are experiencing.

Poor woman even now she weeps at night. What a horrific story and this is only one of many women. An apology won't do it how can you get over something like that is beyond me. I live in Ireland and to think this is the history of our country is just shameful.

This dame abuse is occurring all across the world in all religions and cults. Unfortunately, our government turns it’s head in the name of religious “freedom”. We need to change laws and make new laws in our Countries to protect our citizens from the religions abusing children emotionally, physically, and sexually. We also need to protect our citizens from being victimized and exploited medically and financially from TV televangelists. Just listen to the religious sponsored networks impose their religious beliefs on its viewers. Look how the alt right has aligned with racist to divide the citizens in the United States!

The academics want to turn the laundry at Sean mc Dermot street into another place where middle-class people can go and stare at the working-class poor - ie. a museum - on the weekend. Whilst I understand that what happened to these women (mostly working-class) was pure evil, I think it's important to not allow the academics at TCD and UCD etc. to appropriate this issue and tell the rest of the nation what 'should' be done with the site. The homelessness problem is this country needs to be addressed. Why can't the space be given to an organisation which is trying to end homelessness?

Michael Kelly of the Irish Catholic in his interview tried to spin it that over 750,000 people would turn out for the papal visit in Ireland. Lets deal with an indisputable fact. 500,000 tickets were issued for the papal mass (which took place in the park behind him), only an estimated 130,000 turned out. The papal visit was designed to coincide with an international Catholic event which drew about 20,000 visitors from around the world, to Dublin.. So if that event hadn't been held, the figures for the papal visit, would've been actually far less.

I hope Science, knowledge, goodness, kindness, tolerance and love takes over the world one day. If you have a spiritual relationship with God or a Fairy, good, you should be allowed to find inner peace but religion and state have to be separate, always. I pray to a God because it helps me gain inner peace but I don't force it on others. I'm Muslim by the way and hate countries that implement the Sharia law.

    20. Either you are a Christian and you follow the prophet that the Lord Jesus-Christ has sent in your time or you remain home. You cannot be a Christian today unless you follow Kacou Philippe, the prophet that God has sent for your time. [Ed: The congregation says, Amen!].As at the time of Noah, you could not be a Christian unless you follow Noah the prophet that God had sent for your time. You see? Stop to be Catholics, Protestants, evangelicals and Branhamists. Stop to follow the devil and come to God through His living prophet. Because John 6:28 says that the work of God is to believe in him whom He has sent.

I'm sorry. But you are a grown adult. Dont let the church fear you, you were abused enough without walking with fear to this day. Be strong walk with strength. And know you choose this time not to be abused again. In no way will you be locked up if you go to Ireland it's 2018, not 1718. Lol. I watched the magdalean sisters it was brutel the nuns and priests abusing. And controlling shocking movie so so sad. Thank God it's changed but just about only in the 90 s. Which wasn't far of when they were still at it abusing and controlling. Head and chin up lol 😁 lol 😁 lol
