Dude when I finished this zone I told my friends "Yall the water zone in this game is better then hydrocity." they didn't believe me. And then they played it.
@DolphynsDeck It was so fucking funny seeing them realize the zone is peak. But yeah all in all I love sonic galactic I will definitely take some inspiration. 🤫
Thank you for playing, I'm one of the artists working on the game. I love how thoughtful you are in your analysis of the visuals, to see the details be noticed and really taken in makes the all the effort worthwhile.
Wow! I just wanted to tell the team that parts of Coral Garden like the green crystal instead of the S3 angel island ramp, the backgrounds of the Knuckles section, and the tree trunks in the loops of act 2 are beautiful I played it mostly blind and and my jaw literally agape for most of the level. You guys have made a beautiful style, I’m eager to see the finished project. I mean this with full honesty. If the finished game is of the quality of this demo, it will be the definitive 2D Sonic game in my eyes, and that’ll probably never change.
The artwork on this level is absolutely stunning. When I was a kid I’d imagine what each level’s world was like through the artwork and this gives me that vibe.
I'm genuinely shocked with how little you talked about the music for this zone it fits the vibe perfectly!! The smooth synth is wavy in the perfect way, almost like it's reflecting the bubbles gently floating around as you zip through the sharp twists and turns of the sea pipes aughdsjgbhdsjkhn I can't even put into words how much I LOVE this game's ost XD
As a pixel artist, yes, we do purposefully limit ourselves to any particular artstyle of our choosing. That's just the artistic vision some of us want for our games. Creativity breeds from limitations. You may not like the more retro look, but I absolutely love it. It's much the same for 3D games that try to look like it came from the PS1 and 2 era. It's just fun.
Fun fact: that cracked wall in the transition between act 1 and 2 is breakable if you play with Knuckles, and there's a completely different level behind it with a extra mini-boss and cutscenes. Btw, it focus more on the purple underground temple and less on the surface paths
The reason why you can't acess the giant rings is because this demo only has one Special Stage, after you get the first Galactic Gem all the rings are gone, there are no ring requirements for the Special Stages as far as I know, just like Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic Mania and sonic Superstars, you find it, you enter the Special Stage 3:06 Also, you don't need the wall dash to clear this part, if you jump before you're too low you can reach just with a jump 16:41 And no, that's not intentional lol, I also did that on my first try, if you hit the missile when you're being launched up in that last part your character will bounce the missile back into the submarine and destroy it entirely If you don't destroy it there, the only thing that will happen is that the submarine will follow you up until the boss, then it gets behind when you face Eggman
@CrystalClear51 After the first time I've played, all the other times the missile wasn't shot while the character was ascending so I could hit it back, I could move on and go to the right without needing to throw it back, I've also seen some gameplays on TH-cam where the person playing didn't return to sender After I while in all my replay playthroughs I purposefully didn't move after I was shot up so I could return the missile, just because I thought the setpiece was really cool
Despite playing 3, M, and Superstars so much more than 1 I always live by the rules of 1's warprings lol. I figured during editing it might be that there's only one made since they'd need to design unique levels. Thanks for confirming! I'd love to get confirmation from the devs on the missile because it could either be buggy or unintentional (in which case that would be the coolest shit I've ever seen). Still really cool to know that you *can* miss. Makes my experience feel special
14:02 I don’t know, man. I feel like with the limitations of certain hardware, creativity comes more into play. Sure, back in the day games on the NES and Game Boy didn’t look very interesting, but paying homage to those games well also bringing unique styles along with them is pretty cool at least to me! Even this game is paying homage to the Sega Saturn with 32-bit inspired graphics, but it still creates its own identity with how everything looks and feels. And what’s really cool is how some of the 3D models in the main levels look they’re pre-rendered, as in it’s just showing the image of the 3D model instead of actually being a 3D model, but I’m pretty sure they actually are rendered.
I've seen ginormous amounts of indie pixel games that seek to just emulate old styles without doing something new or surprisingly detailed. For example, I don't care about the basic sprites in Shovel Knight until we get bigger characters like Specter Knight. It's the level of detail in a drawing that speaks to me. Games like Antonblast and Pizza Tower have pixel styles but manage to cram actual expressions on their character which isn't a thing you tend to see in NES inspired games. This is what I'm getting at. The Genesis had plenty of room for expression but games like Sonic 1-3 barely took that opportunity aside from very specific animations. EarthWorm Jim had no problem emoting yet I see all these homages paying tribute to the basics. Just my take on pixel art these days
I have always wanted to make a fanmade sonic game but im useless at codeing and also under 18, i dont whant to buy any programming softwares but i allready have the plot of the game cooked up this game is what makes me want to make this project a reality some day
Check out this resource for free tools. It's a good read that tells you you don't *need* to have a certain skillset to actually make the game. Just keep trying. develop.games/
Im a bit pre ocupied by school work@@DolphynsDeck so I will probably start making it when I turn 18 and have figured out what i truly want to do but thanks for the help
why do people use steam deck or any handheld with an external controller, like i dont get it. why not just plug it into a tv at that point can someone pls explain to me
When downloading Windows games (exe files) you need to add them to Steam (right click) and "force a compatibility layer" in the Steam settings. Proton Experimental worked for me.
You’re playing a water level on the steam deck. The name of the channel is finally accurate.
Glad someone else noticed lolol
Dude when I finished this zone I told my friends "Yall the water zone in this game is better then hydrocity." they didn't believe me. And then they played it.
Pure cinema

I'm thankful stuff like this can exist. 🙏

It's a love letter to real sonic fans ❤

I just want expression and detail. Something like Rivals of Aether 1 lacks expression which I don't find creative.
Dolphyn went to use his deck to sail the ocean
Cinema. 🖊️ 🔥

I love the design and style, really keeps the classic feel and look
THEY ACTUALLY FOUND A WAY TO FIX UNDERWATER STAGES IN 2D SONIC
*YEAH*
I don’t normally care for water Sonic levels, but I have to admit, this looks great.
!! It plays fast too. Some of Aquatic Ruins were like that, but not on this scale

the missle part also happened to me, feels to me that parts scripted.

You HAVE to play Knuckles' version of this zone. It has a little extra story content to it as well as a gorgeous background towards the end of Act 2.
Absolutely!! They saved the best for my boy it seems

@ I see your point

And that was Sonic Galactic four the PC
Can I go home now?

Knuckles has a unique Coral Garden Act 2
0:29 you can get to this place and there is a secret room with a new character
the second act for corral garden looks sort of similar to lagoon city's background but at night.
I love Lagoon City!!! This is a great point.
The only downside is the Act1 very long.
You can replay the tutorial with other characters through the Extras menu
Love to see a fellow water enjoyer
It's a beautiful level.
🙏 so happy I could share my thoughts on this, it really scratched an itch for me
the best water level design, and also sonic fucking dies which is always a plus 😁
He WHAT
If they make a port for android ,my soul is for team galactic ✋
got yourself a new sub, man! God bless ya and Jesus loves ya :)
When the final game is gonna realesed?
2090
When it's ready :P
It's highly unrealistic to set a release date for a game being made with 100% volunteering
People who get paid to make games still end up taking years
ALMOST AT 20KKKKK
Hopefully I get there soon! Thanks for caring my man
why do people use steam deck or any handheld with an external controller, like i dont get it. why not just plug it into a tv at that point can someone pls explain to me
It was more convenient while recording specifically. I'm not typically going to use it on my desktop while playing casually
Okay ya leaf shield is literally just instashield
Whenever I think about the leaf shield I think about Mega Man
@DolphynsDeck honestly I was waiting for someone to say this
How did you get this running on the deck ? Please tell me

*READS THE TITLE*
Hydrocity is better
Hydrocity would be best if it was consistently fast. Too many vertical segments, but I do love that level
Hydrocity is a smooth second place, and still the best *official* Sonic water stage.
That cursor!!! Move it! Please!
You won't hear from him again dw
I disabled it after this recording session but I genuinely didn't notice it at the time lol
@@DolphynsDeckyeah, we cancelled your cursor! Victory for the good guys!
