- I host a few challenges a year where I invite fellow furniture refinishers to refinish a piece in 48 hours. This was the piece I did for the challenge. It was a Tuscan inspired chest with vines, fruit and flowers. I loved the curves of the piece and the carving details under the top.
I thought it was a perfect candidate for another Serena and Lily dupe. I chose Sleepy Hollow by Sherwin Williams and painted out the entire piece. I then decided to pinstripe the drawers with gold for a subtle detail and highlight the carvings with the same gold. I considered adding more gold, but a little goes a long way and I wanted to keep to elegant and not overdone.
We started the challenge at noon on Wednesday and finished at noon on Friday for a total of 48 hours. I posted my pic at 11:38 am with just a few minutes to spare!

Beautiful job. Love the soft blue and understated gold, keeps it elegant. Too much = tacky for me. I would have panicked when the drawer slides didn't fit, great job working through it.

That is impressive for two reasons:
1. You are brave to work on heavy furniture while wearing sandals.
2. You gave that yucky, cheap-looking chest a whole lot of Napoleonic elegance! I see that early 2000s "Tuscan" furniture in thrift shops all the time and I run away before someone breaks out a bucket of olive green or mustard yellow paint.
You have a talent for seeing beyond the obvious. What did you do with the feet?
Ha! Well, it’s hot here in Oklahoma 🥵 Yes, a client gave me this piece and I didn’t realize it was a wood composite of some kind until later. It’s not a piece I would normally source, but I did my best with it. I ended up spraying the feet and reattached them to sell. Some people only like furniture with feet. Who knew? 🤷♀️

Ha! My earlier videos have music. I gave up on it and liked the ambient noise better. It’s more relaxing to me.

What is the tool you used to cut the screw, I've never seen one before and it looks very handy to have in the toolbox 🧰
It's just a wire stripper. They have a handy little area where you can cut screws down too. 👍
