The Khmer temples of Thailand….I would love to visit them. The purpose of this temple and surrounding area makes sense. In Buddhism, care for the old and sick is an absolute necessity and teachings on death and how to deal with death is common.
In many of our $100,000 nursing homes, something simple like decent food does not exist, let alone care for the spirit. It’s nice to think that in some part of our history, people weren’t always treated like a commodity.

Yes, there is much to be learnt. They had a particular passion for medicine, which they sourced from countries as far away as India and China. Life for them was just as precious as it was for us.
It is an educated guess, but I would say the average life expectancy was the mid 30s, it was the same in Egypt in the time of the pharaohs hardly anyone ever made it to 80. So we have something to be grateful for with modern medicine.

Thanks so much. It is a Long and Winding Road. I travel tens of thousands of kilometres every year. I have so much further to go. So far I have clocked up about 60,000 km ❤️
Speaking of a statue, there were many priceless artifacts and statues being looted and sold through Thailand to the USA, Europe, and Australia. Some of the valuable statues were being sold for millions of $$$. There is a great investigative report, which can be seen here, done by 60 Minutes.
