  • I went fishing for dinner with my family at Loch Raven Reservoir and I caught a big snakehead. We spent a nice day fishing from the rental boats. We were hoping to catch some bass and chain pickerel for dinner, but I managed to hook into a big snakehead. We also caught a couple of chain pickerel that we had for dinner along with the snakehead. Thank you for watching subscribe for more MD fishing content.

      Well I have never caught a pickerel either. Just a bunch of pike! As for snakehead I’ve only ever caught 2. You’re not that far behind go get that snakehead👍🏽

    Bro I'm pretty sure you are the first one to capture footage catching a snakehead out of the main reservoir! I catch em out of the gunpowder but finding them in the loch has been super difficult for me. The population is probably growing! Congrats!

    • @Jonalexxx
      @Jonalexxx  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks. Idk if I’m the first. Maybe on film, but I’m sure someone has caught one out of there before. If they’re below the reservoir it was only a matter of time they get in there

      The earliest that I heard of anyone catching a SH out of the main res was 2 yrs ago and it was a small one. I heard that supposedly someone had dumped a bunch of SH frye in there like 3 years ago. Which going by the size of what’s being caught now kinda makes sense. I don’t know how I feel about them in the res. Part of me was hoping they wouldn’t get in there, but it was inevitable. Not as much for what impact they’d have on other species, but bcuz of what’s happened at Blackwater. I remember going to BW in the 90’s crappie fishing and maybe I’d see 2 or 3 other people in boats. Now it’s like 20 to 30 and a lot of outtatowners are leaving their trash. I’d crappie fish BW for numbers, and LR for size. I pulled a 17 1/2” and a 17 7/8” crappie out of Loch on the same day years ago. I think that a state record SH will end up coming out the Loch in the future.

    FYI. If you keep snakeheads you must "dispatch" them before you transport them.

    • @Jonalexxx
      @Jonalexxx  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I found that out after the trip. I’ll make sure to dispatch them after catching them next time. Thanks for the heads up👍🏽

    Just stumbled across your YT. The Loch has been a fav of mine to fish since growing up in the 70s & 80’s. I pulled 2 pb crappie out of there in the same day drifting minnows over the boulders (that’s what we called them). The first was a 17 1/2” and an hour later I caught a 17 7/8” right in the same spot. I’m looking at them on my wall as I type, lol!! Tight lines brother!

    • @Jonalexxx

      @@Jonalexxx Yupp, it’s a spot that I’ve never seen anyone fishing before that gets overlooked, that my brother showed me. I even pulled a rainbow trout out there one day. There’s some major drop offs towards the Cromwell Road Bridge. The deepest part I found was at the bridge and it was 82 feet and the water temp is much cooler. If you go to the right (the cove the golf course is on) the left is real rocky and holds some decent smallies along the slope. Then during the winter, we’d catch some real nice Northern Pike up by the Warren Road Bridge.

    Great video Jon! I love catching and cooking, but could you please kill and bleed the fish before you put them in the cooler? It’s better for the fish, as they don’t suffer and it’s also better for you, because the fish last longer and taste better if you bleed them immediately. Also I am pretty sure it’s illegal to transport a live snakehead in MD. Great video!

    • @Jonalexxx
      @Jonalexxx  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly it was my first time trying it. It was surprisingly good, but it had too many bones. If you can get past the bones it’s aight, but now I’d rather eat trout, crappie or smallmouth.

    • @Jonalexxx
      @Jonalexxx  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Naw we rented one from the fishing center. It’s not that expensive and you can fish pretty much all day as long as you have enough battery power. I recommend you get a 3rd battery if you plan to fish all day. Weekdays you can ask for a 3rd battery, but in the weekends they might not have enough
