i feel like mini would get attention if they buffed its shot damage to 34 per shot, making it a 3 shot. idk if this would be overbuffing but it's already outclassed by most shooters AND most splatlings, its competing for both and getting the worst of both worlds.

Torpedo and Fizzy allow for lots of comboing potential for Mini splatling, Mini being able to combo with torpedo's outer area that deals 12 damage and being able to cause a distraction while fizzy has better paint and better mobility and being able to force people out of long ranges. Super Chump, while not one of the stronger special right now, is a lot healthier of a special and has been shown to be given to weapons that had tenta missiles for all the weapons that got it, Nzap, Clash and dualie squelchers all had missiles in splatoon 2 and got super chump on their second kits, so I think it's likely that Mini will see Super Chump for its third kit. Mini is able to use the special both supportively and selfishly, sending in distractions and body blocks that can also combo with damage with the new buff it received in Sizzle Season.

Excuse me, but as a person whos been playing mini since Splatoon 1, Zimi is the far superior kit to vMini in Splatoon 3. Toxic Mist synergizes with Big Bubbler extremely well, allowing you to push in to set up bubble but also allowing you to defend it with a second mist, and because Mini paints so well and has really good mobility, you create an insane combination that allows for extremely good map control. Toxic Mist also allows Zimi to play wayyyy more aggressively. I'd argue that Zimi is more of a slayer than a support kit. Splatoon 3's dogshit map design also means that Toxic Mist is much better in 3 than it was in Splatoon 2, much in the same way Point Sensor is better in 3. Now that Bubble has been buffed this season, and mini's ability to charge its special stupidly quick, Zimi is probably the best Big Bubble weapon in the current meta.
also: jr is pretty good but its main weapon range is short so its gona get bubble about as often as zimi, jr is also not as good of a main weapon compared to zimi but makes up for it with it's ink efficiency and bomb spam. Squiffer outmatches Zimi 1 on 1 in most situations but zimi has better over kit synergy, can get bubble faster, and can handle itself better in most situations, also double mist combo is better than double point sensor. H3D seems interesting, and I think it fills a different role than zimi and i like how you can use wall to set up bubble better, but it also cant use 2 walls at the same time with bubble like zimi can with mist and one wall doesn't protect bubble as good as double mist.

I was a mini main in splatoon 1, after the velocity nerf tho it never felt the same. It feels that I lose a lot more interactions than Im supposed to because of it.
[Splat 3] I had a really fun time with the Mini Splatling in random queues because it's very versatile. You can go aggro with the fast charge, or you can hang back and use your long range to be a budget Heavy. I do agree that the Zink Mini _really_ suffers from not having any damage on sub or special. Big Bubbler is still really fun - you outrange several shooters, and those that outrange you (chargers, splatlings) you can just bubble up & forget about them for a bit. But it lacks any other damage that isn't its main weapon and that can really pidgeonhole you: if you get into a tough spot, or someone's out of range on a ledge, then you just can't _do_ anything about them.
Former competitive mini player here. This was a nice watch, glad to see mini getting some attention. One thing I want to put into perspective though is how difficult it actually is to use mini, cause it's a deceptively difficult weapon to play, and it only gets harder the better your opponents get. So, mini has a really good matchup spread right? Well, none of it matters if you can't hit your shots at max range with mini, and it is hard as balls to hit max shots at range with mini. This is thanks to mini's slow bullet velocity. For reference, try directing the fastest moving target in the weapon testing range with rapid pro from 2¾ lines away and thats how far mini has to place it's shots in accordance to enemy movement. Imagine having to do that against a sporatically moving target while you're also sporatically running around at mach 3 and if you don't hit 4 shots within a 1.4 second time frame, you get rushed for free while you try to charge up again. It's difficult and it really puts into perspective why the good mini kits worked as well as they did. Disruptor slows the opponent making them easier to hit and pretty much stops them from rushing you and even if they get past that, you have an instant activation invincibility shield. Burst bomb gives you a life line incase you don't hit all 4 shots on a target before your charge ends, and missiles give you a good passive special to use in conjunction with it's supporting painting playstyle among other things that work well with mini.
i did say multiple times throughout the video that mini is a difficult weapon to play, thats a large reason for why other weapons were chosen over it also, good MU spread means good MU spread. even if it’s hard, when played properly this thing loses to like 2 weapons ever. difficulty of playing the weapon is mostly irrelevant to MU talk
Really enjoying this series! One that I think might be interesting to cover is the Jet Squelcher, given it's infamously dominant role in Splatoon 2 and the Cjet still being a niche pick in Splatoon 3. (Plus I love playing Cjet despite being a Blaster main)
30:30 I have to defend my weapon as a Splatling player! Splattershot Jr doesn't outclass the zimi and I can explain it. 1. Zimi is better with big bubbler! Pro Chara explained that every weapon with the big bubbler can either fight very well (Squiffer, Blaster) OR paint pretty well (Splattershot Jr), but the Zimi is the only one to do both which is perfect for a weapon with bubble. That's also why I think that the Zimi gets more value out of the bubble than the Jr because it can fight well and its range helps it a lot to control more space! A Splattershot Jr in a bubble can be avoid very easily because its range is very small. Many weapon that easily outrange it can just stay away from its range and then destroy the bubble. 2. The main weapon is better. It is much more accurate which helps a lot in fights, it really has a great charge time for the firing duration it has and the range is great! Squid School explained that in his 2.0.1 tier list. The Jr is a good painting weapon but it is still a spray shooter with bad accuracy. I know that you explained that the Jr has a better sub weapon and I agree with it but I think that a better main weapon that is better with the special is much more important than a better sub. I also think that the Jr is more beginner-friendly and the Zimi is really hard to play well. Overall that's a great video and I totally agree with what you said about the Splatoon 1 minis since I played those too (especially the refurbished mini)
Fellow blaster player! Hello! I don’t think aged too well, I mean, big bubbler now tanks most top specials and has proven to be quite difficult to approach with multiple weapons. I accidentally used on the recent keyboard splatfest, and I was able to focus on holding positions and supporting teammates from there while splatting anyone that tries to approach me.
And here I was thinking the Mini and Zimi would be easy starter Splatlings because they felt right by the look of their kits (mainly their subs, I’m terrible with Stamper for now, and never tried Big Bubbler before). I guess I’ll start with the Edit first, since that’s the only other Splatling I chose that I know I have a chance to be good with. I’ll see how it goes, I still got to try out a few weapon classes, as well as getting my favorite weapons to 4 stars so they won’t get lost in my weapon list. I seriously wish Nintendo added an option to favorite as many weapons as you want and put those in a separate category, have them all be displayed first, or even better, have both options or a setting to choose what you want (favorite category, displayed first in list, or both). That way I can easily find my favorite weapons, because I’m a multi-main and also very forgetful, so since I’m maining 10+ weapons I’m bound to forget a few.
The video is very good, but I thought of some things to improve. Sometimes the music and gameplay footage (which are really interesting) take too much space and I lose track of what you're saying. But overall the video is excellent
As someone who’s recently picked up both the Dynamo Roller, and the Mini Splatling, I am very pleased with this series so far :) Funny coincidence that both of those weapons used to be pretty good in Splat1
Here is a great request for the next one in the series! The Dual Squelcher! I think this vid idea would be great bc you talk about the dual squelcher in s1, then talk about the dualie squelchers for s2 and 3. I would love to see this idea.
vMini was my go-to Splatling in Splatoon 2, mostly due to its Burst/Missiles kit and me having a more aggressive play style and not being patient enough to wait for the other Splatlings to charge up. I dropped it during the beginning of Splatoon 3 because Ultra Stamp was just terrible on launch, switching to Nautilus as that is a Splatling that could also play somewhat aggressively thanks to its charge hold mechanic. Now that Ultra Stamp is noticeably better than at launch thanks to a myriad of buffs and bug fixes, I might just give Mini another chance...
TY FOR COVERING MY MAIN WEAPON So basically, im on a journey to give weapons that are underrated more attention Ike the mini splatling, carbon roller deco, or even bamboozler! (These weapons are such hidden gems)
Yay my favorite weapon! The Zink Mini was my second most used weapon in the first game, and now it's my most used weapon in the third game (and it'll be my first 5 star weapon too, I'm almost there)! The Big Bubbler buffs last patch definitely helped, but I really want to see something done with toxic mist because it just feels like a waste most of the time. The supportive playstyle of the weapon is still extremely fun regardless so I'm sticking with it :p
As someone who is VERY NEW to the splatoon scene, I greatly appreciate this history lessons :) I would love if you would make more videos about other interesting bits of history throughout the 3 game releases, no pressure tho ofc

@@dawsonsmith7905 a lot of that stuff fits into what i already do, so maybe going a little more in-depth would be cool, but if anything, I'd want to expand into the speedrunning scene of the game, seeing as nobody has done that sort of speedrunning documentary stuff for splatoon yet (that i know of)
This might get lost, but I'm gonna say something regarding gear as a mini main in s3 While its important, I personally think you don't need that much run speed. Mini mostly needs 1 main and 1 sub rather than 2. It's part of that advantage that the weapon is nimble and fast. I personally would swap that 2nd area for swim speed instead or comeback (depends on the kit)

I became a mini splatling main really quickly. I decided to use it for ranked and didn't realize how long I played it for and only realized when I got to 3 stars.😅
this series is Great, the moment I see one of the weapon history videos pop up I immediately click it. if your taking weapon suggestions you could do the sploosh-o-matic!
You probably arent going to see this but if you do. Can you please do the nozzle nose next? I was just revisiting splatoon 2 and all of a sudden i wanted to see the history of nozzle nose
It is unfortunate the state of Mini in Splatoon 3, but I feel like eventually this thing can honestly rise to be strong. Utility subs always have more chances of buffs randomly, so Zimi may someday be decent, and VMini with more Ultra Stamp buffs that help all weapons (like pls give it front protection) may honestly give a lot more of them spots in the meta as an actual way in through enemy lines, rather than just “wiper can use it and not worry too hard if it dies through the front”. The current state of mini may be unfortunate, but I strongly think this thing will have a 3rd meta spotlight someday. We'll have to wait and see though
As bad as the Zink mini splatling set may be, i have to admit it's so much fun to use. For damage you have to rely only on the main weapon, but it's so strong that it doesn't matter. I also prefer this set because i don't like using the vanilla mini splatling special, i feel like it puts you in a bad position and is too risky to use. Again toxic mist is bad because it uses a lot of ink but big bubbler gives me a (false) sense of security and i like it. Not relating to the comment, but i still want to compliment you for your videos, they are interesting to watch and very educational.
please nintendo give mini wave breaker in its next kit, that's all i ask. the synergy mini as a main weapon has with wave sounds so fun. between scouting locations and getting extra chip, it could use the wave breaker to hide behind between charges. it also just fits mini's aggro-support playstyle so well. so right now my hope for a 3rd mini kit is torpedo wave. i just love this thing and i'd hate to see it be stuck with nothing but mediocre kits for the whole game.
mini splatling’s kit is great. not only does burst offer some combo potential, but ultrastamp is a fast killer, you just need to be in the right environment, which I feel is a weakness for mini.
This thing desperately needs a fizzy bomb, it’s practically made for it, but since ballpoint already has it it’s not gonna get it :( I think ink storm is pretty underrated in this game, I use explosher and it’s a pretty good special, your ideal kit would make it viable again for sure
something of note about mini is its extremely slow bullets. all splatlings except for naut take 8 frames for shots to reach max range, which is pretty slow, there are short range shooters with faster shots than a hydra. because mini has such short range for a splatling, its shots move very slow as well, the only weapon with slower shots is ballpoint short range mode (at least between dualies shooters and splatlings) this while an unfortunate downside adds a lot of potential for mechanical improvement, if you can master shot leading you will find you have more range than you thought.
I will admit that to this day, even though I don't main this weapon anymore because I just found better alternatives, I still love it and on Turf war and even Rankeds I make horrendous numbers with this weapon :>
i swear this weapon with full run speed up is OP if played well, bcuz most people cant control that mobility power, but in the right hands its crazy but i have to admit in splatoon 1 it was the best version, pls bring back disruptor
"burst bomb rush was a waste of a special" me in the 5th grade, running special charge up, sub saver, and ink recovery on refurbished mini splatling so I could spam burst bomb rush:
Wait I almost forgot that people were actually scared of refurbished mini because at the time burst bomb wasnt nerfed and a lot of people ran dmg up. after the nerf tho the kit was dead on arrival.
I assume you didn't know about the fact that zimmy is easily the best bubble weapon and the bubble buff makes it a lot better, I'm not a big fan of mist but it doesn't really need a sub imo because of its amazing paint and great dps
While the video is good, I dont quite agree with the use of "outclassed" with zimi, since zimi still has some strengths over the 3 weapons mentioned like better fighting power over jr or better mobility over h3. I can see where you were going with mentioning it, but it didnt quite feel like that was the right word to use. Similar thing with wiper vs mini, as that comparison could be made with any stamp weapon. L3D prolly couldve been briefly brought up since its a shooter with the same kit that it works a bit better on even with the 200p stamp. Again i see the idea but it just doesnt feel like "outclassed" fits in this context

this is like a splatoon history channel i love it
As a mini main and never playing splatoon 1, I really needed this video.
Great video. I really miss old splatoon 2, and might go pro in 3. Totally forgot how much like science this game was.
But it lacks any other damage that isn't its main weapon and that can really pidgeonhole you: if you get into a tough spot, or someone's out of range on a ledge, then you just can't _do_ anything about them.
your videos need so much more attention
really enjoyed this and how informative it was!
Burst bomb gives you a life line incase you don't hit all 4 shots on a target before your charge ends, and missiles give you a good passive special to use in conjunction with it's supporting painting playstyle among other things that work well with mini.
i did say multiple times throughout the video that mini is a difficult weapon to play, thats a large reason for why other weapons were chosen over it
also, good MU spread means good MU spread. even if it’s hard, when played properly this thing loses to like 2 weapons ever. difficulty of playing the weapon is mostly irrelevant to MU talk
your splatoon weapon history videos are great! i enjoy them lots
It was as if TH-cam knew I was playing a lot of Mini Splatling... Awesome video! Love hearing about the comp history of this weapon.
Us Mini-mains are just happy to see any sort of content on it right now lol
These videos are so good, your channel is incredibly underrated (will comment on the other parts to boost algorithm)
Used to love the sheldons pick mini back when i was younger
I’ve been getting into the mini recently and it’s been a fun time overall. I’m happy you decided to make a video on it rn
love your content so much and fr becoming one of my fav splat youtubers. keep it up!! ❤
Lovely work as always, keep it up!
Really enjoying this series! One that I think might be interesting to cover is the Jet Squelcher, given it's infamously dominant role in Splatoon 2 and the Cjet still being a niche pick in Splatoon 3. (Plus I love playing Cjet despite being a Blaster main)
love this series as always :]
the note about chimera vs almost kids made me feel so seen as a splatoon boomer lol. keep up the great work
These videos are so much fun to watch like it’s actually entertaining
And the nostalgia is the cherry on too
My favourite wepon has its history video!!! :)
I don't really play mini splatlings that often, but the video got me interested the whole time.
Good video!
Mini is best weapon
Fellow blaster player! Hello! I don’t think aged too well, I mean, big bubbler now tanks most top specials and has proven to be quite difficult to approach with multiple weapons. I accidentally used on the recent keyboard splatfest, and I was able to focus on holding positions and supporting teammates from there while splatting anyone that tries to approach me.
Honestly, zink mini of splatoon 3 has worked for me very well on tricolors on Splatfests and just in general a good support for me :D
Always a great time to see that you made another great video thanks
Keep making more of these please!! These videos make me wanna try these weapons and I end up loving them 😊
And here I was thinking the Mini and Zimi would be easy starter Splatlings because they felt right by the look of their kits (mainly their subs, I’m terrible with Stamper for now, and never tried Big Bubbler before).
You should talk about the nozzle noses.
Love watching these, can’t wait to see the next vid 👍🏻
As someone who’s recently picked up both the Dynamo Roller, and the Mini Splatling, I am very pleased with this series so far :)
Funny coincidence that both of those weapons used to be pretty good in Splat1
its not a coincidence, its part of the plan! thats why i made a video on slosher too
I love your videos they are so fun and interesting to watch. You always do a great job on these videos keep up the great work. :)
if mini gets a 3rd kit it better be good
Here is a great request for the next one in the series! The Dual Squelcher!
I think this vid idea would be great bc you talk about the dual squelcher in s1, then talk about the dualie squelchers for s2 and 3. I would love to see this idea.
Mini is really fun I love the zinc kit from s2
Also the video is really well made nice job
A new viedeo from our legend thanks dude!
vMini was my go-to Splatling in Splatoon 2, mostly due to its Burst/Missiles kit and me having a more aggressive play style and not being patient enough to wait for the other Splatlings to charge up.
So sad my favourite kit from 2 got broken up. Toxic mist Ultra stamp was the only reason I picked it up and now stuck with either in 3
TY FOR COVERING MY MAIN WEAPON
So basically, im on a journey to give weapons that are underrated more attention Ike the mini splatling, carbon roller deco, or even bamboozler!
Lmao I didn’t even know that refurbished mini ever existed because it just sat in the shadow of zimi
YOOO been waiting on this for a while!!
As someone who is VERY NEW to the splatoon scene, I greatly appreciate this history lessons :) I would love if you would make more videos about other interesting bits of history throughout the 3 game releases, no pressure tho ofc
what other interesting bits of history are you thinking about?
@@jacobcats_spl yooo like... turnaments, pro players, game metas/strategies, map playstyle evolutions, significant updates, weapons/kits/classes, new weapons/clothing brands, characters, story mode, etc
I realize thats a lot, but your video style seems suited for it. If i were to narrow it down to one idea, I would like to know how competitive play evolved over the franchises lifespan, what kind of new discoveries and tech revolutionised how people played the games?
hopes thats not too much, your content is great as it is, maybe this will give you some other ideas?
@@dawsonsmith7905 a lot of that stuff fits into what i already do, so maybe going a little more in-depth would be cool, but if anything, I'd want to expand into the speedrunning scene of the game, seeing as nobody has done that sort of speedrunning documentary stuff for splatoon yet (that i know of)
This might get lost, but I'm gonna say something regarding gear as a mini main in s3
While its important, I personally think you don't need that much run speed. Mini mostly needs 1 main and 1 sub rather than 2. It's part of that advantage that the weapon is nimble and fast.
I personally would swap that 2nd area for swim speed instead or comeback (depends on the kit)
This video is so informative, your subscriber count actually makes me mad you deserve at least 10x your current subscriber count!
If you need more ideas for weapons to make videos on I think the Luna Blaster could be good although I'm a bit biased lol
Just finished a small audio project, happy to celebrate with new Sploon history lessons!
(edit: just to be clear I wrote this without expecting anyone to reply to this and mainly wanted to provide my perspective as well as having this comment on hand in case I wanted to put these thoughts into another reply of a different video or something, so people can ignore this comment if they want as it wasn't intended to be interacted with -ps sry if this sounded offensive, I'm not trying to be mean or anything, I just couldn't think of a better way to write this)
Many top players say that Zimi would be the best bubble weapon currently released if bubble was actually good (i.e they release maps with actual flanks like Reef so it doesn't get shredded by all 4 players shooting it at once and can instead divide the opponent's attention with a player shooting behind a giant shield) because it can do a mix of both supporting & fighting with the bubble while other weapons besides roller can only do 1 or the other, & H-3 is at the end of the day just a really bad main weapon in S3 and is honestly probably harder to play than Mini, plus Mini would be able to get into those flanks more easily than H-3, while Jr is just considered to be too weak at fighting even with a bomb that you lose too much dps and/or range in your comp.
refer to pinned
Ik im late to this video but as someone who plays splatlings you covered this very well incredible
I love watching these videos of yours! They're great! If you don't know what to do next, how about h-3 nozzlenose?
I became a mini splatling main really quickly. I decided to use it for ranked and didn't realize how long I played it for and only realized when I got to 3 stars.😅
Another great video lezz goooo
this series is Great, the moment I see one of the weapon history videos pop up I immediately click it. if your taking weapon suggestions you could do the sploosh-o-matic!
You probably arent going to see this but if you do. Can you please do the nozzle nose next? I was just revisiting splatoon 2 and all of a sudden i wanted to see the history of nozzle nose
1: which one
2: doing range blaster
@@jacobcats_spl H3, i feel like it sees 0 usage compared to the L3
Hell yeah i love these weapon history videos
mini splatling’s kit is great.
not only does burst offer some combo potential, but ultrastamp is a fast killer, you just need to be in the right environment, which I feel is a weakness for mini.
This thing desperately needs a fizzy bomb, it’s practically made for it, but since ballpoint already has it it’s not gonna get it :(
I think ink storm is pretty underrated in this game, I use explosher and it’s a pretty good special, your ideal kit would make it viable again for sure
something of note about mini is its extremely slow bullets. all splatlings except for naut take 8 frames for shots to reach max range, which is pretty slow, there are short range shooters with faster shots than a hydra. because mini has such short range for a splatling, its shots move very slow as well, the only weapon with slower shots is ballpoint short range mode (at least between dualies shooters and splatlings) this while an unfortunate downside adds a lot of potential for mechanical improvement, if you can master shot leading you will find you have more range than you thought.
2nd favorite weapon after hydra ,just glad they both had fun kits this time
Fun fact your local inkling and octarian have probaly commit genocides due to salmon run
Nice video! Btw can you cover the H3 and the L3 nozzlenoses next?
ill do them in separate videos since they are very different from eachother, but yes!
I request you do TRI SLOSHER history plssss
Rip to the though of 3rd kits and mini stuck in a outclassed zone
Most underrated splatoon youtuber rn
jacobcats upload yipeeeeeeee (very excited)
my dream kit for mini would be splat bomb + tacticooler. not because it would be good, it probably wouldn't, i just like both of those
I will admit that to this day, even though I don't main this weapon anymore because I just found better alternatives, I still love it and on Turf war and even Rankeds I make horrendous numbers with this weapon :>
i swear this weapon with full run speed up is OP if played well, bcuz most people cant control that mobility power, but in the right hands its crazy but i have to admit in splatoon 1 it was the best version, pls bring back disruptor
I would love to see your history of the H-3 from the top of Splatoon 1 to the bottom of Splatoon 3
Ready for a new epic video!
jacobcats upload day successfully made good
I want to see tri slosher next video, 6 unique kits with many stretches of relavance even today
"burst bomb rush was a waste of a special"
me in the 5th grade, running special charge up, sub saver, and ink recovery on refurbished mini splatling so I could spam burst bomb rush:
this video covers the weapons in a competitive context, its okay to do whatever you want outside of that im not judging
I forgot how small the kraken used to be omg
Wait I almost forgot that people were actually scared of refurbished mini because at the time burst bomb wasnt nerfed and a lot of people ran dmg up. after the nerf tho the kit was dead on arrival.
Been watching since the rapid blaster video and I have to say I really look forward to these videos! What do you plan on covering next?
I assume you didn't know about the fact that zimmy is easily the best bubble weapon and the bubble buff makes it a lot better, I'm not a big fan of mist but it doesn't really need a sub imo because of its amazing paint and great dps
Glad both my mains from splat two, kensa dynamo and mini splatling, suck in this game lmao, but it's a hella good video
Man, splatoon 1 maps look like actual fun.
