tbh all it really needs is an accuracy buff.
@@v0idvice640 I think an accuracy buff would take away from the inherent design of the weapon. Where as fire rate increase would keep to what the weapon was designed for. Make it too accurate and it's too much like jet squelcher or pro. But if you increase fire rate, it brings it closer to what it's supposed to be, mid range support aerospray

I actually like Splattershot Nova and am fairly good with it. It happens once in a while that I get 25-30 or even more kills with it. Combat is actually decent if you know how to play into the weapons strengths, namingly it's locating abilities and range in addition to a better mid-range performance due to better ink output than the jet Squelcher has.

I guess with Nintendo EPD 5 constantly throwing new shooters at us like a shower of comets, some of them were bound to be bad. But I was actually really looking forward to the Nova before it actually came out.
Oh well, at least they nerfed the Crab Tank to where Splash-o-Matic isn’t a must-use in Ranked.
I actually got the Nova to try out a more support focused gameplan, and it does it's job of revealing and suppressing the enemy really well. tagging enemies with point sensor and basically siccing my teammates on them is so much fun.
So, from what I can gather, the nova is a HARD support weapon. Like, it is not good by itself. It's purpose is to make things easier for your teammates, and nothing more.
True, and as such it's really dependent on your teams performance which can be really frustrating at times, especially since you often find yourself wondering what the F your team is doing 20 kilometers away from the frontline. However, if you have decent players in your team, it can be very good, even on it's own, the 30+ kills I have archieved with it in one match sometimes don't come from nowhere.
Its funny how often video essayists use P5 music for ambiance but this is the first time ive heard anyone use the spaceport theme.
Good video overall. I dislike this weapon for the reasons you listed though i wasnt aware of how opening gambit functioned so thanks for that. Love your sense of humor and how youre able to add in jokes almost effortlessly without it detracting from the actual substance of your commentary.

Funnily enough I picked up this weapon yesterday, played it exactly as you described and it went well! The sup and special spam got so many assists and my friends in vc appreciated the fact that I was playing turf war in anarchy-

I like the Nova after all the buffs it got, I still think it should have a 4 shot kill, but it's still a decent support option.
Even with the 5 shot kill, It's not as bad in fights as you'd think because it has the range to bully short range shooters.
Yeah, and the paint to cut approaches off. Your ink tank efficiency and run speed are naturally good, so you can just backpedal and paint if you're zoning. Otherwise you can move up and harass and make a quick escape.
I have come back to this video many times ever since it has been uploaded, something about this video was great with the *Space Gun* and then later on the negative levels of drip joke (7:38 timestamp a bit before of the joke for added context!). The punchline was delivered so well!

Someone on Twitter once posted a screenshot of a Nova with 32 kills & 5P. It was a round of CB and all he did to achieve that was spam point sensor. That madman had main & sub saver combined on all slots of gear.

I 4 ⭐️ Nova early on and learned if you don’t wanna risk opening gambit, run speed, swim speed, special charge, sub power, and a little bit of intensify can go a long way for the weapon

I'm actually maining this one. If everything goes well I can have 30+ kills on a regular ranked mode match. But I'd say average is around 15.
I used to main the Jet Squelcher, but since the set's of the Jet Squelcher are a hot mess with secondary and special weapons that don't do anything or actively sabotage you I switched.
I actually have to say through that it isn't that bad in combat. Yes, you have to hit 5 times, but I'd say it's kill time is better than the Jet Squelcher since it's fire rate is higher and you're more likely to actually hit thanks to your 2ndary weapon and the higher rate. Also, it can still outrange a lot of weapons which also helps.
I like the Nova! It's decently fun to just goof around with, at least with my playstyle. I do wish it had a bit more damage or a faster fire rate, but as someone who leans towards support, it works for me. But you were right about that one Nova player being cracked. I felt I was gonna comet- er, vomit watching them.
Had to comment how excited I was to see another Splatoon weapon vid! Looking forward to an eventual Splatana vid (and vids for the other new weapons) but I'll be patient cause 100 matches is a lot to get through!
I've played the Nova a bit and it's fun to be a point sensor spammer but it does need a boost. Hoping the weapon gets an update cause the kill time is pretty abysmal.

Splat1's Custom Dual squelcher was my baby and I cri every time it's not re-added to the game. Splat3 better have an "Everyone is Here" moment with it, or else I'll...continue to cri evrytime

All you need to do to clap with the nova is to play a get off me playstyle
Our Opening Gambit lives begin at our first term and end at the end of our tenth. And during that time we fight to fill our flame clock so we can live longer.

The Nova needs something with more oomph. Maybe the Booyah Bomb. Toss that across the field like a comet. For a sub, I dunno, Squid Beakon? Or maybe just any bomb? Even Autobomb, since that also tells you if someone's in an area.
I mean the increased painting buff already helped quite a bit. But its supposed to be a support weapon which tracks opponenets and paints for its team. Ofc with opening gambit a dmg buff would be nice but that wouldnt be healthy balance wise. Need some disadvantages too otherwise it might get too strong.

Not every shooter should be a copy paste weapon without weaknesses and I think they did really well designing this one. It has strengths and it has weaknesses. Play to its strengths and it can do well but force its weaknesses and you will struggle.

Yeah, while i think it could be better, i main the weapon so im a little biased.

Tbh im perfectly okay with it being a five shot kill, as it gives the weapon more identity. My big issue is the accuracy, as Nova has the worst accuracy of any mid-range weapon. I really wish it had some sort of "fighting mode" to negate the bad rng. Most shooters have a characteristic where the longer you fire the less accurate shots you typically get, and i think it would be cool if Nova had that but to the extreme.
My rework idea:
Upon popping out of ink Nova would get perfect accuracy for about 8 or 9 shots before rapidly decaying to its current spread over the next 5 shots. It would take a full second in ink for the accuracy to recover. Jumping does NOT effect the spread. (Any numbers given here can be tweaked for balance sake).
I think this would be a good change for the weapon not only to make it an overall stronger main weapon, but it would also straight up be more fun to use. Nova would now reward players more for their aim with a trade off of being limited in how much time you can spend in the mode. On top of that it still allows the weapon to play more supportive with the spray mode since it still would paint better.
TLDR: Long aerosplash

My Splattershot Nova tip is to stay hydrated and drink water before every match because you're playing with a water bottle gun.

COMET. Also, I might try the -Splattershot Nova- Space Gun now that you seem to… tolerate playing it. I’ve also been eyeballing the Big Swig Roller, simply because of its niche in Splat Zones. I love weapons that serve a niche in a specific mode because it gives me the excuse to play different weapons from time to time, instead of -slowly and painfully grinding- trying to get five stars with Glooga Dualies.

Comet I sort of like this weapon, but I just don't know why I would play this over jet squelcher or dualie squelchers
TBH I'd be fine with it being a support weapon if it had a different name. The Splattershot name always carried with it the reputation of the basic, go-to weapons of their respective ranges, able to hold up in a fight. Rarely the best, but never the worst. The Nova however feels like more of a support than the Jr, and that just never feels right, especially with a name like Nova too.
Not gonna lie I dont mind the damage being weak but it needs one of two things to compensate and it has neither; perfect shot accuracy (Like Splash) or super high fire rate (Like aerospray, N zap or splash)
Being a 5 shot with mediocre fire rate and unreliable shots is just too much; which really sucks cus I genuinely love being a support player with point sensor
I would def say that the weapon is absolutely still playable though! But I wish it was actually good
The fact they gave a five-shot weapon stupid bad RNG with mediocre firerate makes me really sad...
That being said, I finally found a shooter type weapon I enjoy playing, so I cant complain too much.
Its fire rate isn't mediocre by any means, but for a weapon that only deals 24 damage per hit, that is a bit too slow to comprehend
