      Im loyal to the dynamo in an unhealthy way usually i get 15-20 kills per match although with other weapons my performance is significantly better
      Tip for getting good: play dynamo an unhealthy amount until other weapons become easy

      @@SaraMxnch Be like Rock Lee, use the slowest weapon in the game for an unhealthy amount of time, until you are comfortable with it.
      Then go and play any other weapon and marvel at how much mobility you now have, it's like training with weights on, and then removing the weights, you now feel light as a feather.

    My biggest issue with Dynamo is the inconsistent hitbox. Sometimes an enemy is well within range but manages to slip through a gap in the flying ink, which is just rng based and frustrating imo. Buff the damage / consistency and it would be really good

      Weapons with RNG when that’s not their complete design philosophy (looking at the 52/96 gals) absolutely ruin them to various degrees. Why is dynamo’s paint less consistent than swig? Why does it almost paint LESS? Why does range blaster love hitting the floor? I know some rng needs to be there for pretty much all weapons, but making it as extreme as it is in these cases just hurts the weapons more than anything.

    As a current Dynamo main i want only two things; the horizontal flick to paint under my feet and at least slightly better hitbox consistency with the vertical flick. Slightly better damage fall off would be nice so its not so punishing to be one pixel out of kill range would be nice but other than that I'm happy with the weapon.

      The RNG really hurts it too, I'm a Dynamo main aswell since S2 and it always is annoying when the whole current hitbox hits the ennemy who should as a result be dead, but ends up actually surviving and wrecking you up in return before you can lift the roller again or get away.

      Dynamo would really stand out if its horizontal flicks were just a full tidal wave of ink. Fill in all those gaps, I say. I want to be able to stand in one place, horizontal flick, rotate 90 degrees, repeat three more times, and to be standing in a clean, perfect square of ink.

    Gold Dynamo got me hooked back in Splat 1, and I’ve been a Gold Dynamo main ever since. Splat 3 is killing me cause I hate the normal Dynamo’s kit in 3 but they refuse to give us the Gold back even though it’s been in the files (and even the trailer) since the beginning of 3. Nintendo please, I just want to suffer the normal dynamo problems but with my Gold Dynamo instead of the normal Dynamo!

      @@marqui-3795 I hope it gets its splat bomb back, it’s had that for both Splat 1 and 2, but the special is where they have fun options. Either they give it something new, or they can reference it’s Splat 1 kit with the tristrike for the special!

      We need a Burst Bomb Dynamo Roller. I've been waiting for 3 games now. Give it to me.
      It would literally be the perfect sub weapon, it's basically DESIGNED for the Dynamo Roller.
      It would help with mobility, painting your feet or walls, dealing chip damage from far away without commuting to a slow swing, and finishing off opponents that barely survived your attack.

      Felt that. My playtime for splatoon 3 fell off hard because dynamo can't get another kit. Hopefully next update they'll add gold dynamo

    For those who saw AP at the start of the video and were confused: AP stands for ability points, and is a way of quantifying how much of a boost you're getting from a gear ability. Each sub ability gives you 3 AP and each main ability gives you 10. So, in that clip at the start, one sub if ink saver main was equipped. Hope this helps :)

      This is also the reason why Ability Doubler is widely considered to be the worst ability in the game - 1 main 3 subs (10+3+3+3=19) is more than Ability Doubler 3 subs (6+6+6=18)

    34:00 When it comes to canceling your flick attacks, you could also make it so that canceling it will consume ink as if you followed through with the flick. This means that the Dynamo will still use 18% (or 17%) of your ink tank if you cancel the flick, and you will still have to deal with the ink refill delay.

      this would balance flick-cancelling a lot better! id personally prefer if it only consumed half the ink it would normally take if you went thru with the flick, since you arent actually flicking, but yeah, great idea!

      another alternative option would be to put the remaining time of the flick being cancelled as white ink frames instead, though I'm not sure which of the three options would be best here...

    Dynamo main here, some more details about dyna in 2&3: all the buffs and mpu dynamo got in 2 doesn't feel significant cause it only makes up for all the nerfs dyna got at the start of 2, tho it has really good kits to choose from
    Splat3 dyna is really mobile due to sprinkler and squid rolling, mastering squid roll gives u a fighting chance against all the strong weapon kits in 3, cooler can be used as a wall to block attacks and allows dyna to run respawn punisher very effectively as a semi backline in rainmaker
    Really hope it gets more buffs, of course increasing its range and ohko range is really nice but I think reworking vert flick by making it do 60 min damage and more object damage in general can make it a lot stronger(still gonna lose to machine cause that thing is born as a dyna slayer)

      as much potential as s3 dynamo has, the lack of a working special is what puts it off for me + big damage hitboxes are more present than ever
      itll prob get a few more buffs, dont know how good theyll be but it seems like nintendo knows dynamo is in a not great spot atm

    Tacticooler Respawn Punisher is kinda good on the dynamo. Pop it, go ham and get one or two picks with little to no draw back to you getting splatted.
    It's very risky however since getting taken out when you don't have the tact buff is very detrimental.

      i think all it really proves is that 1: ray was broken asf (because now vmachine in splatoon 2 is pretty bad) and 2: machine is just a good weapon in general

      Until the latest updates of 2 mostly replaced it with the Kensa one which is pretty much the vanilla one's current kit in 3, unless I didn't remember right and Kensa had torpedo.

    I wish dynamo's base kit had autobomb or burst bomb instead of sprinkler, it would allow dynamo to apply more pressure and be more aggresive, something the kit was already doing thanks to Tacticooler.

    I actually think Ink Armor canceling your swings was a indirect buff and a neat trick for the Gold Dynamo roller. As someone who played a lot of Guilty Gear, I used the Ink Armor activation as a "Roman Cancel" my swings and either throw a splat bomb, or swim away to throw my opponents off. And yes, everytime I activated my special I would yell "RATED R!" lol

    The best way to actually go about buffing Dynamo is making the minimum damage 60. This improves the vertical flick, making it more of a poking tool, and it also makes the hori flick more consistent in splatting opponents. You might say: "that's too much damage, that'd be insanely broken, especially with the big hitbox", but I counter that argument with the fact that Splatana Stamper gets to do 70 damage with a charged slash way faster than a Dynamo could dream of, even if the hitbox is way smaller.

    Really good video! I’ve been playing dynamo since k dynamo dropped and feel like you’ve covered basically everything. I feel like in splat 3 dynamo is just counted by almost everything so most players having been returning to QR sets and stealth jump. I’ve always played the weapon aggro so it’s interesting seeing the weapon take on a more aggressive role compared to the more passive role from splat 2. Hopefully we get gold’s kit soon 💀💀💀

    the dynamo has been my favorite class of roller since the beginning, but WOW, it's crazy to believe of how much disadvantages it can have (that I didn't know about myself) but still can come out great on top. These splatoon weapon history videos also help me with how I can play better competitively which is great, I hope more of these get created overtime, keep it up 👍

    My brother is a dynamo main, and I use it every now and then, it’s fallen off HARD, also I like this content, if possible I want to see a brush one, as something seems to have “broken” with it, not sure it it’s maps, or lag, but I think it would be cool. All in all, keep this up!

    The inability to paint your feet is consistent amongst every single roller. It isn't an issue with just the dynamo - it's literally a weapon class issue.

      It is in fact a class issue making the splat roller aggressively mid as well, but it just hurts dynamo so much more because of its insanely slow nature

    I hope that Gold Dynamo gets some kind of usable kit. I used to love Dynamo in Splatoon 1, but I took a years-long break between 1 and 3 and I'm really sad to see Dynamo's current state and mediocre kit. I hope I'll be able to enjoy using it again someday.

    Another banger video; you've found some nice video essay material. I would love for one on Hydra Splatling, but that weapon has unfortunately been suffering in silence and doesn't have much to talk about or explore. I will say that I do think it's gotten to play in a more favorable environment in Splatoon 3 now though, similar to Dynamo.
    Looking forward to whatever choice is next. E-Liter, Splash-o-matic, or Bamboozler could make for interesting picks.

    i always found it interesting to compare how dynamo and its polar opposite carbon have been progressing with the evolution of splatoon in equally polarised ways.
    both excellent weapons in the first game that embodied its meta; dynamo absolutely hates having a vertical flick, that option is incredibly good for carbon; carbon doesn't really care about bombs and specials because it can move, but it can't put out any pressure without map control like dynamo can; dynamo suffers in hallway maps while carbon is the perfect kind of weapon to bruteforce QR to move through them, and last but not least dynamo consistently gets kits it can actually give half a damn about while carbon is stuck with an autobomb and a special that doesn't work with it at all on launch. at least we got carbon deco 3 months in.
    very excellent and informative video! hopefully dynamo gets some qol like consistent paint or less hitbox inconsistencies so people can use it, and if history doesn't lie then it should get some pretty okay kits down the line. stupid we have to wait a full year for a weapon on the box of the game though

    I began Maining the Dynamo at the start of Splatoon 3. And to this day. I’ve glad I’ve became one. As it’s such a fun Tank like weapon.

    One of my thoughts to improve dynamo roller was to give it a "quick charge check" like mechanic. So, the name mainly comes from bamboozler; it has a quick charge, but not enough to act as a tap shot. How this would be done for the dynamo would act like this, when you flick, either jumping or not, just tapping the ZR button will do a vertical flick while if you hold the button, it will do a horizontal flick. I feel like this would help a lot with what flicks the dynamo wants to do.

    I used to use gold and K dynamo in splatoon 2 as a meme, but steadily started enjoying its gameplay. I don’t play it much in 3 due to the kit not working for me, so here’s hoping the gold dynamo will have an awesome kit

    Play into dynamos mechanical feel and allow it to have the dynamo motor kick in and transform vertical flicks into horizontal flicks by simply keeping the button held for a moment longer. To balance this it will take slightly longer than a normal horizontal flick, this will be insanely useful and best of all let dynamo actually use squid rolling.
    Also just a fun addition but playing into the mechanical feel even more you could make it so continuing to hold the button after a switch horizontal flick will rev up the roller and let you peel out with a sudden burst of speed, still fits being a long setup for BIG results

      i like this! though i think itd overall be ineffective on the weapon if you’re suggesting that the vertical flick -> horizontal flick will take longer to come out than a vertical flick normally would, at that point it doesnt seem worth it. i could be wrong tho!

      @@jacobcats_spl oh no, I meant that's it slightly longer than a horizontal because it plays a small fraction of the vertical flick anim before just switching to the normal horizontal anim, it should feel a teeny bit slower than normal horizontal while being way faster than a vertical.

    If gold dynamo were to ever be released it would most likely have a kit of big bubbler and splat bomb. Because big bubbler was one of the two "Armor replacements" the other being tacticooler which is already on vanilla. This kit will probably be as almost as good the squiffers. But still it's a step up and we can never know what kit it's really going to get. It may better it may be worse. We don't know.

    Though the weapon is laughable at 3's new player base us splat 1 vets will always have the memories of being scared by these things

    The original Dynamo has been my first and only main since the early days of Splatoon 1. I am very happy to have come across this video so I can relive all the memories and feelings I've had with the weapon. Early Splatoon 1 original Dynamo (or "vanilla Dynamo" as it's referred to in this video) was *definitely* something else lmao. I'm still going strong in Splatoon 3. :}

    Dynamo is extremely fun when it works, i had so much fun with kensa dynamo in splatoon 2 and its still my main in 3. Hoping we get a similar kit!

    Dynamo is great in salmon run, i’ll add. There is no kit holding it down all the time. It’s incredibly strong and in a specifically co-op mode where a lot of people love the dynamo in rotation, your team might try to especially protect you or keep you alive because of how strong it makes you. I think it’s generally okay no matter the rotation sometimes it just can’t work with other slow weapons who struggle with swarms (splatlings, chargers, or super low damage weapons)
    I think dynamo is super cool and a fantastic weapon in salmon run, being the only mode i can handle it. One or two shots most bosses with a hit point you can roll over, is good at keeping glowflies at bay by blocking and just running them over, similarly is amazing in goldie seeking and gets a shit ton of eggs if you just ram the goldie with it, etc.
    In pvp, i can’t use it. I struggle with slow weapons and ink hungry ones especially, but i believe it’s a really cool weapon that needs some major comeback.

    im ngl tho, as a dynamo main i think the vertical is kinda pretty good for dynamo, at least in a vacuum. also adds an interesting dynamic of "will they come towards me or will they back off?" if you vertical people backing off, they get chipped pretty badly. if they run at you when you vertical, you die. if they run at you expecting a vertical, but you horizontal, they may die. adds a lot to the weapon's design apart from splatoon 1's unga bunga, and also just gives it better and more consistent poking. a lot of midrange matchups would be hell without it. if it didnt come at the cost of horizontal range, and instead the extra vertical range was added to the splatoon 1 range, i think it would have been seen more favorably.
    id definitely recommend you DO use verticals with dynamo. they are necessary for the weapon to do anything sometimes.
    final note, thank you for making this. ive been playing this thing since splatoon 1 and it's great to see conversation revolving around this weapon again.

      it doesnt really make sense to say the vertical flick is good in a vacuum and then reason as to why its good. it has uses, sure, but dynamo is so much more capable as a weapon without the vertical flick, a major reason why splatoon 1 dynamo was looked at a lot higher than splatoon 2 dynamo. even if splatoon 2 dynamo had 3 really good kits, the vertical flick is that bad for it. you can say it’s good in a vacuum, sure, but when you take the weapon out of said vacuum and put it into practice (which is how we should think about splatoon, significantly more productive to do so), it hurts the weapon far more than it helps it. it’s good to be optimistic but dynamo just has a harder time with it’s vertical flick, especially in s3

    I spend a lot of time talking about kit design in this game. The two kits I want to see on this weapon are
    Fizzy/Booyah
    Splatbomb/Wail
    A close third that I think would be even better for it than sprinkler is
    Marker/Wave

      My ideal kit would be Burst Bomb and Ink Storm. Both the sub and special weapon could be used to apply paint and chip damage to the opponents, as well as controlling space, which are very useful on a support weapon.
      However, this isn't just support, because the chip damage from Burst Bomb and Ink Storm would also make the Dynamo Roller more dangerous, being able to weaken the opponents with chip damage, and then finish them off with a flick would be amazing. Not to mention that burst bomb would be a godsend for mobility, painting your feet and walls, and generally finishing off opponents that barely survived your flick.
      It would be such an amazing kit, with perfect synergy and a super fun aggressive support playstyle.

      I don't care if it gets an awful special like Reefslider or Zipcaster, just give me my Burst Bomb.
      Although, if I could choose a kit, it would be the one with Storm.

    If i could buff the dynamo I would make the roll faster, and allow it to cancel swings, but onlly before the hitbox comes out, not after. So basically it would be able to cancel wind up, but not cooldown.

      My idea to buff Dynamo is to make the swings always default to the best possible RNG. So its damage and paint would be consistent and overall better.
      Also, DRASTICALLY BUFF THE VERTICAL FLICK, that thing is absolute dogwater. I'd say increase it's range by 25%, and increase the minimum damage from 40 to 70. If it's going to be as slow as a Charger shot, then it better HIT like a Charger shot.
      With more range and damage, it's now a better poking tool, and now paints more far away, which makes up for how damn tiny and thin the hitbox is. Its also actually useful now, because it's significantly more powerful than the horizontal flick, compensating for how incredibly slow it is.
      Right now it's like a Splatana Stamper charged slash, but deals half the damage, is way slower, and has inconsistent damage, with similar range.
      It's barely stronger than the horizontal flick, and the one hit KO range isnt even that much longer. Not to mention how it paints less, covers less area, and is super easy to dodge when compared to the horizontal flick.
      Yep, the vertical flick needs MASSIVE buffs in order to be worth using at all.

    As someone who adored using Dynamo Roller towards the end of Splatoon 2, Sting Ray was my go to counter to Chargers so I'm not pressured with my range. Otherwise I was literally an anchor for my team, and forced the enemy to come to me so that I can plan my swings and mines in advance. Unfortunately nowadays it feels way too bad with it's sets for me to consider running, especially with how fast Splatoon 3 is.

    as a die-hard dynamo main it hurts to see my beloved weapon that wasn't so great from the start getting outplayed into oblivion and not being able to keep up with the current meta. but despite all of this i refuse to drop this weapon anytime soon
    i guess all that's left is to pray that Nintendo blesses dynamo with decent kits and more useful buffs

    Kensa Dynamo was so good and it was one of my mains in S2, I used it a lot and was one of the weapons that got me to X Rank in all modes. I still use Dynamo in S3, but not as much as S2 due to its kit.
    Really hope that when the Gold Dynamo releases, it gets a better kit than vanilla.

    After watching this video, it's honestly a miracle that I became a Dynamo main given that I didn't play Splatoon 1 at all. Also, it's a miracle I'm still a Dynamo main after having to wait a full year for my baby Gold Dynamo to get into Splatoon 3. I ended up making the Painbrush my most used weapon and just pretending it was a dynamo roller.

    Additional to thesub/swim-form cancel window, a rework to the whole jump flick to where by holding ZR transforms the vertical flick to the horizontal flick. so dynamo can go high in the air and still horizontal flick for massive painting area AND it'd be faster overall as it no longer needs to start the flick on the ground then jump.

    Honestly, Dynamo might feel a little better if Sprinkler wasn't as bad as it currently is. The only situations where it feels good to use is
    1) right at the beginning of a match to help charge your special (and currently, weapons with sprinkler either don't need the help charging special or don't have a special worth rushing out)
    2) Splat Zones on maps like Undertow where you can throw them on the ceiling or a protected part of the wall and passively help control the zone.
    3) when it randomly gets a kill so you can impress the boys with the replay

    As a splatoon1 player, I miss dearly, within the depths of my inky soul, my precious Tempered Dynamo Roller. Even if it came back now, it probably wouldn't be the same. I need the original kit back, I don't care for lasers with my sound cone nor would I trade seekers for any other sub or special. This game 3rd iteration has crab tank, you can tolerate boats then. Thanks for reviewing my favorite weapon. Dynamo Rollers for life!

    I feel perhaps tacticooler could have something that maybe decreases the time it takes to active an attack
    Maybe this would be too powerful, but it’d help tacticooler be better if things like chargers, rollers, splatlings, and more could have _____ amount of time reduced

    As a Dynamo main, I can say that maining Dynamo in Splatoon 3 is like maining Ganondorf in Smash Ultimate. We don't play it because it's good, we play it because it's absurdly polarizing and that's what makes it fun; It's a rollercoaster of emotions, and the few godlike moments we get are well worth the sea of absolute depression we have to swim through to get them.

    I’ve played dynamo like once in multiplayer and didn’t like how slow it was, but funnily enough it’s probably my favourite weapon in salmon run. Just rolling over all the lessers in on hit is sooooo satisfying.

    I mained the Dynamo in 1 and honestly all the nerfs I feel like it just laughed at. Even with the kill zone range nerf, it was still a CONSISTENT kill zone. When I tried it again in 2, I could never get more than like 4 kills with it on average best (even hitting in the middle, if they're just too far back they don't die, and sometimes point blank does fuckin 93 damage), and of course the jump flick on it has range and a sweetspot that feels atrociously small for how long the windup is and how open it leaves you.
    I tried playing it in 3 and I think the idea of its kit is the tacicooler is meant to help its lackluster movement, because HOO BOY is it like acutally hard to pull off squid rolls using the Dynamo bc of its heavyweight speed (and imo heavyweights need a small upside to counter this, perhaps if you're brave enough to use a heavyweight weapon you get like 10 extra HP or light natural sub efficiency compared to other weapons that run the sub, literally ANYTHING to justify how ink hungry they are, pleASE). You NEED speed to squid roll without any intensify action, but Dynamo wants swim speed up instead but even with that boost you can still fail if the acceleration is too poor or if the turn isn't fast enough.

    being able to cancel my flicks would be such a god send omg.............. im not even a dynamo main but getting locked into a flick when youre being targeted can be so punishing for all rollers (as a flingza main............ the amount of times someone has thrown a bomb right under me as soon as i flick............................. its tragic 😭)

    as a dynamo main in player matches, just a few frames cut off the start up would be all i want. i'm okay with the weapon being pretty bad, since the game is flexible enough that a player can adjust their play style around a weapon's strengths and weaknesses rather than there being a one way to play.
    i would like the gold or kensa to make a return (since i like wearing kensa fashion and not because i'm attached to the kit) to give us a new kit to mess around with, whether it gets beacon (useless, you are the beacon if you're dynamo) or curling bomb or an angle shooter doesn't matter to me as long as it's fun. the special can be missiles tho, god please, you gave a splatana missiles so now the floodgates are open and i want some. if not that i'll take inkstorm i guess.

    I think a buff dynamo could really use is the removal of random deadzones. This is a stupid phenomenon on rollers in general but it can just entirely ruin dynamo sometimes in combos

    Honestly I wonder how it would be if they buff Dynamo give the user a larger health bar, like 125-150 HP? Like play into it being a heavy weapon class, let it survive bombs way easier and is a trade off for the decrease speed
