    Another advice to avoid burnout is: celebrate the small victories!
    This is very important when you’re doing something as hard as creating an audience for your content.
    Did you have a new chatter on your stream?
    Did you manage to remember a personal fact about a chatter?
    Did you get 10 bits for the first time?
    Celebrate that! You’ll feel a lot better and more motivated to stream.
    For instance last weekend I got a 1€ donation. It was the very first time I got a donation. When the stream ended I danced a little victory dance and talked about it with my girlfriend. It made me feel as if I was a top streamer earning thousands of € per stream.

    I'll be honest I get the feeling that I already achieved that SMART goal by getting out of my comfort zone and just talking while I streamed. However I can point out that the only way for me to become better than my last stream is to research bitrate and what the difference is between an encoder and decoder which will in fact take a day, as for my other goal would be to get employed so that way I can make at least 250 per week since I don't really have to worry about rent so this planning becomes so easy. There is another goal that I always wanted to achieve and that was to upgrade my SSD for higher storage and that's taking another day that I have to research.
    TLDR ;Reached my first goal of being more confident, Day one learn what GPUs are, Day two start hustling, Day three upgrade the storage or delete some ahem things off of it.

    • @StreamScheme

    The comparing yourself to others is a big one for me that I struggle with. I've been at it for 5 months and I'm doing well for myself IMO. I'm averaging about 15 viewers per stream and I just hit 250 followers yesterday. But there are times when I find myself veering into those comparison with my friends and getting down which isn't good. Everyone's journey is unique to them. But more than that, worrying too much about the numbers is a one way track to feeling down, especially early on. do this because you enjoy doing it, because you think you have something unique to present to people. For me, streaming is the first thing I've felt passionate about in almost a decade, working on stuff, adding new things, and trying to create the best content I can is the reason I do anything else that gets me there. these videos of yours have been such a huge help in my journey thus far as a creator as well, so thank you, Eljay. Honestly, so much of what I've done to improve and the steps I've taken have been inspired by these.

      Fairly spot on already with your own thoughts BUT the other issue is that TH-cam is more discoverable IF you make discoverable video content.
      My latest video talks TH-cam gaming for discoverability and my other TH-cam growth video breaks down it as well with some more about optimising for the YT algo.
      YT does lack community compared to Twitch, less features for community focused streaming BUT they are trying to add it so it does stagnate in the middle, but that middle is fixed with consistent discoverable video content as well (Twitch is the same, I stagnated a bit before this Yt channel did well)
      It is a toss up but the core shouldn't be "this or that" it should be "What Discoverable And Engaging Content Can I Make to grow anywhere?"
      Hope this helps! :)

I just stream every time I’m gonna play because I think it’s boring to play alone. So even if I get views or followers or not it really don’t bother me. Just do your stream or content for fun don’t stress it out.

    How do you about when people only come by for streams where they play with the streamer and not come when the streamer is playing on their own?

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can't really understand the comment but I am assuming you mean you've been using the idea of playing with viewers as a way to grow, BUT they aren't coming back to watch you do single player?
      This is a core issue with the Playing With Viewers approach, those viewers have a very specific intent behind finding you, and that is to play with you on your stream, they are incredibly unlikely to come back for other content.
      I'd say you need to either double down, play with viewers a lot, build a community, then slowly cut back to 1 night a week playing with viewers ... OR you need to accept that you are going to lose viewers by doing singeplayer and just go with it, do playing with viewers 1 night a week and go from there.

    • @spiritsery1133
      @spiritsery1133 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    It IS fun to stream for me. But I will also admit that not making money while streaming/off of streaming IS taking some of the fun away. And that's because it's currently the *only* way I have to make money, as I have no income whatsoever.
    Can't say I have any goals, either. I'm not the type of person that does well when they set themselves goals, especially with a time-crunch deadline. I prefer going with the flow. Setting such a goal would just feel like a burden on me and ruin the fun of streaming. I love your videos, they are very clear and concise and give actual instructions on how to improve things, but I guess this one doesn't really gel with me well. Not everyone is good with set goals.

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What has worked best for me was using a skill outside of gaming.
    I am really into photography, studied it, did it as a job for several years and it generally makes me happy. So I used those skills from that to take somewhat artistic pictures in my chosen game, making no reference to my stream overall and try gain followers there before posting another vaguely artistic picture to gain peoples interest with a minor quip or joke to try and get people to come through to my stream. My last one had a picture of a teddy bear quoting that "Brian offers you pumkpin in exchange for you to watch Badger Chomp on Twitch." To which I had people join and then also start chatting to me about the picture, so it also started a conversation.
    That being said, it's still a graft - saves me having to try and make TH-cam content though, I suck at that.

    • @StreamScheme

  • @nasasimp588
    @nasasimp588 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My smart goals:
    S - to step outside my comfort zones in terms of being social and also to become a better video editor.
    M - I’d be able to measure my growth my the way my interactions with strangers and my video quality evolve over time.
    A - the goal of improving my social skills is achievable by streaming regularly and interacting with viewers/ chatters. My video editing skills will improve over time as I regularly try out different features with new softwares.
    R - on a personal level these goals are very relevant for what I want in my life. I’ve been struggling with some pretty bad social anxiety for most of my life and I feel that if I stepped outside of my comfort zone more regularly it would help over time. The fact that I’ll be doing something fun and casual while stepping outside my comfort zone makes it an easier and less daunting task. Improving my video editing skills is also relevant to me right now because it’s something I rather enjoy and would like to do professionally one day even if it isn’t my own content. Right now I’d just like to focus on editing my own content because I’ll have more control over what the content is.
    T - I’m not sure if I’m looking at this one correctly but I think both of my goals are on-going. I don’t have a box limiting how good I want to get at video editing or talking to people. I want to continue improving over time and all I can say is I plan to keep learning what I can online for how to become a better writer and practice at least twice a week.

    I used to have a goal of hitting affiliate. Which felt terrible after every week when I didn't hit it. I have finally got affiliate but took a step back for a long time as I got burnt out and felt like quitting. I have come back to streaming but only stream every now and again so now all the people that used to come into my streams have either moved on or don't use twitch anymore. So now I want to set a new SMART goal. I don't want to focus too much on viewers or subs or anything like that at the moment. For the short term I just want to get back into streaming so I have set a goal to stick to a schedule. From now on for the next 2 months I will stream 3 times a week. Hopefully this will boost my confidence after taking a knock and maybe even get more viewers, etc. Sorry for the essay and thanks for the amazing content ❤

    Honestly about being jealous of your friends and getting burnt out faster because of it, it is true but not for everyone and fully, you could use that as a semi-competitive way like "Oh okay he did it so I'm gonna try my hardest to do it too" but that depends on the person to be honest like for example I saw an old friend (that I'm not that fan of because of their competitive attitude but that's not the point xD) and they had 9 viewers and 65 in a few days of streaming and I just saw that one day from the discord's sidebar and he was streaming Apex Legends and I didn't take it competitively but I was like "If he as a new streamer plays Apex Legends which is a super famous game and gets that amount of views and follows, why can't I try to do the same with other games no matter if they're famous or not?" My point is that others shouldn't see it as a competitive thing that their friend is more 'famous' than them but as a small boost of confidence but I get that it's not the same for everyone

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It all depends on the person, of course!
      The people commenting and saying they are jealous, and the people I am talking about in this video sadly, they see it as a "Why bother, I suck, they are better" which is why I push to not compare like that!
      By the way, welcome into the #earlygang! Hope it helps!

  •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I didn’t think of this as a goal but I’ve been focusing a lot on improving my engagement with chatters and the quality of my content. The engagement with chatters is measurable because I do get more people chatting for longer.
    Improving the quality of the content isn’t measurable per say but I am reading a book on how to write comedy. That by itself is measurable but the book has action points that are measurable too. For instance, I’ve started a writing challenge of writing for 30min every day for at least 2 weeks.

    Heck I am just having fun streaming on my twitch channel yes it is lonely when no one talks too you in chat box area. Or watches your stream but the way I look at it is that if u are having fun doing what your doing that is all that counts. Yes sure some of my videos get views and at times I get new followers but I make content everyday. With nobody watching me or chatting with me and I am ok with that because I am having fun with my streams on twitch and I also found my nitch and that is to do karaoke with rock band 4. It gets me to open up a lot more and it also got me to talk constantly even when the game is in load time. Yes I stream from console xbox to be exact but what matters the most is that you have fun during your streams heck I even make myself laugh just by some of the things I say and when singing.

    I guess my long term goal is to reach affiliate. Not going to lie about that. But, in the short term, I want to translate the views my VODs get into live views. It appears, from all indications, people like my content. They're watching it, but just not live. I'm not sure what to attribute that to. Maybe I should reconsider my schedule and stream in the evenings rather than early mornings. Maybe I just haven't found my "sweet spot" as yet. We'll see. I'm currently sitting at 2.1 average viewers with all other affiliate goals met. I don't think it's unrealistic to have affiliate as a long term goal. I just need to figure out the live views.
    Great video, as always. Thanks for all your hard work.

    • @StreamScheme
      @StreamScheme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Remember VOD view count isn’t just people watching your VOD, it’s a compilation of every viewer who sees you while live.
      This also counts the same viewer who refreshes or afk’s and coms back, it can be bots scanned through twitch and see your stream. Every one of these interactions adds a view to the VOD once the stream is finished.
      VoD views are tough to evaluate what is actually a person. Hope this explains and clears up a bit about how those work.

      With content creation, I think long term goals should really just be focused around trends and concrete projects.
      "I want to never miss a video release all year! 52 videos, 1 a week"
      OR
      "I Want To See My Subscriber Count Trend Upwards"
      It tends to be better for your own mental to focus on creating and long term trends.

    Because I’ve been streaming half assed for a few years, I have over 100 followers. I’m thankful for them. But I still have an average of 0.4 viewers lol. I don’t think I’m engaging enough.

    My new goals are 1: To create an actual logo for myself and my brand, I'm giving myself 2 weeks to get this done.
    And 2: To be better at After Effects. I want to be able to create my own stuff at a higher level than I am currently. I'm giving myself fee weeks for this one.

    I have met most of the requirements, just need three concurrent viewers LOL but in all honesty I just love to stream, I don't see myself quitting. For me I love getting to meet new people and having fun playing games I haven't yet. But I can see where your coming from because there are a few people I've seen on Twitch asking for help to get to Affiliate or Partner.

      You’ve reached 50 followers but are still working towards the 3 average you mean? Why do you think your follows are following without coming back to stream?
      Do you have a schedule that doesn’t change? Playing the same games or at least the same genre?
      Would love to hear more about your stream :)

      @@StreamScheme I've been on Twitch for around four years and nobody ever used to watch my content, I think I maintained around maybe three or four followers in my four year stint on Twitch, so I deleted all of my content and started fresh. .I learned to loosen up a bit and play different games, stuff that others wanted to see. I put a suggestion box and began playing zelda, animal crossing, retro games and I now have 70+ followers, I had a schedule but could never stick to it as my day changes all the time, I have a part time job and my boyfriend needs help as he is in a wheelchair. I think it's just down to some of the content, I'll have a ton of viewers react to one game and then as soon as I start something different I hardly get any viewers, like right now I'm playing through parasite eve, never played it so decided to give it a shot but nobody is really interested in it.

      Report as many bot accounts to Twitch, write in the ticket you didn’t do it, and sit tight.
      Twitch is aware of the botting going on currently, and are working on it!

    I remember I said my self my goal is affiliate. But I very fast backed off. I made goals like stream x time week stream x time hrs. And x time followers. Now I love streaming even though I stream Under 10 viewers. It’s not all about viewers.
