This Album was in my regular music rotation about 5 years ago when my Mom passed away. The day she died, as I drove away from Hospice, this song came on. I felt something release in my heart and I was flooded with hope. I felt my faith increase. I must have listened to this song 100 times that day. So, Dustin Kensrue, if you ever happen to read this comment someday, I just want to say thanks. Your thoughtful poetry comforted me on one of the most difficult days of my life and continues to bring me comfort every time I listen to it. God Bless.
I use this song to comfort me with my moms death too ♡.
@Chris Clarke
I played in a band that was very good. We were small time then, but quickly gaining momentum. I had been feeling a tug from God to leave the band for a few months and was having a very hard time giving in. I played my last concert with them in Coleman,TX and the whole set I was just uneasy and fighting God's will. Anyhow after that concert around 2am I was driving back to Stephenville,TX to stay with the the other band mates and this song came on. It immediately grabbed my attention. I had no idea who thrice was. I recorded a little of the song on my phone on the drive so I could remember it. The whole song I'm certain God was talking to me telling me He really wanted me to follow Him and be faithful to Him. I knew on that drive home my music days were over. It hurt but I was peaceful. To be honest I even cried a little. I listened to that recording every day before I could find the recording on youtube and just kept listening and listening.
A few months later I was glad to be out since I could see my walk with Christ would have suffered.
Maybe a year later the band hit it big... that was tough. I questioned God, cried out to Him, and I'm sad to say even got mad at Him. I'm talking they signed with a major record label, and sell out concerts with anywhere from 2k-15k in attendence almost every concert.
It's been years now but occasionally I get down when I see info about the band and how successful they are.
One thing remains though, I chose to follow God's will and it wasn't to be a professional musician. Today I am glad I'm not with my old buddies in the band. Not one of them are in a position to witness if needed. To be honest I seriously question their sincerity with their relationship with Christ. Anyhow, I can't say who is saved or not, God looks at the heart and mankind sees the outside.
Wow! Thank you for sharing this story. God is truly awesome. Our lives in this world is the difficult part, but by enduring loss & the inevitable obstacles & suffering that comes, through Christ we can have peace, joy, & grace. And in the life that follows, the pain and suffering that we experience in this world will be wiped away as pain & sorrow are turned into ecstasy when we enter into life in His eternal kingdom. As the Christ said, “All that the Father gives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly not cast out.” (John 6:37)
Hallelujah & God bless!
Me too
I’m 31 and this playing at my funeral hasn’t changed as an idea since I was 18
Thrice is the best but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave” by SLT 🤘🐺

My friend had it at her funeral. Amazing wife and mother of two adopted foster boys. Huge impact.
Hell yeah. I’m 29. By far the greatest band ever
hate to break it to you but youre not ever going to die
one of the most amazing and brilliant songs EVER recorded.

You've discovered one of the best songs ever. Please tell everyone you know that loves real music.
Thrice is the best but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave” by SLT 🤘🐺
I'm not a Christian but i feel thrice portray the best parts of Christianity and ideas and emotions everyone can relate to. Love this band, and they keep going and going.
Cant say i agree but definitely spirituality
Find Christ brother. It’s worth it. He loves you ✝️
One of the best underrated bands of our time
Thrice has been a constant narrative in my life since around 2003-2004. I moved to another country across the Atlantic only to find that my best friend had also happened to discover them by coincidence.
While I was in Germany, they performed at a music festival with bands like the mad caddies and pennywise, and I was just so fortunate to see them. I came back to America years later and bonded in my deepest relationship over their music, we went to see Thrice on their proclaimed farewell tour, and I was overcome with an existential crisis.
It is so easy to follow their thread of influence throughout my life. I would like to say my ideas of integrity and critical thought stem from my experiences of them. They introduced me to Edgar Allan Poe through 'The Red Death' and E.E. Cummings through 'A Living Dance Upon Dead Minds.' I was inspired in the independent study of philosophy through their song 'So Strange I Remember You' and their references to Aristotle and C.S. Lewis. Furthermore, I learned some piano just so I could play that Teppei outro from 'Deadbolt', most of my guitar playing was inspired by them as well.
My latest romantic encounter began right before the pandemic, she lives in New York while I'm in Florida. I asked her to listen to this song as she flew back without knowing the obstacles that were about to hit. I felt this song captured both of our essences. We are wanderers and I thought maybe we would find a home within each other. Thrice has filled my heart with 'Songs of Forever'
That's beautiful. Y'all still together?
If your home is in Christ, you can have a relationship with your partner in this life that would otherwise not be possible. If you are bonded to Christ, your wife or girlfriend can be bonded to Him through you and something truly incredible, a lasting love and devotion, will be made possible. God bless.
Thrice is probably going to WOLOLO me into being a christian one day. I love these guys.
I just realized what this song is about after all of these years.
Nice aoe reference. Dustin is a great lyricist.
nonono wololo
its been 2 years since you posted that. what are you waiting for?
Proof
Proof of Gods existence is all around us , from the conformity in nature , to complexity of the human eye and entire human body , also God himself has revealed him self to us through the Holy Scriptures , his law is written on our hearts.
Like Paul says in Romans we all know God is real , but we suppress the truth
Like trying to hold a beach ball under water , it always pops up
If you slow down and look around you can see His finger prints everywhere ! Good luck to you in your journey through life ! I pray you find the path to Jesus !!
God bless you !!!! Have a great day !
I remember the first time I heard this song. I was so far away from home and scared. This helped me through some of the darkest times. Sometimes I play this and it is the only way I can look back on that period of my life and smile.
After building towers for 27 years. City to city, town to town. New place every week. This song resonates deeply with me, being 40 and everyone I know has moved on to family's and life, but I'm still just a rolling stone. My roots never too deep anywhere I go. This band I just found is truly a gift.
You sound like a cool ass dude Tito
One My Favorite songs to listen to while im driving through the mountains.
Did that today driving up lookout mountain in Chattanooga!
I like walking home at night to this
Me too
Actually, one of my favorites in general :p
My favorite song to listen to when riding my motorcycle befor the sun goes down
I am an exile - a sojourner; A citizen of some other place.
All I’ve seen is just a glimmer in a shadowy mirror,
But I know one day I’ll see face to face.
I am a nomad - a wanderer; I have nowhere to lay my head down.
There’s no point in putting roots too deep when I’m moving on.
I’m not settling for this unsettling town.
My heart is filled with songs of forever -
Of a city that endures, where all is made new.
I know I don’t belong here; I’ll never
Call this place my home, I’m just passing through.
I am a pilgrim - a voyager; I won’t rest until my lips touch the shore -
Of the land that I’ve been longing for as long as I’ve lived,
Where there’ll be no pain or tears anymore.
My heart is filled with songs of forever -
Of a city that endures, where all is made new.
I know I don’t belong here; I’ll never
Call this place my home, I’m just passing through.
You forgot. Ohhhhhh oh oh oh oholhoh oh
I am david adrianas son
Tonight our Bible study was about 1 Peter 1 and its addressed to those in exile and we had a long discussion on that, and this song started playing in my head.
@Dera Kioandria Williams Evidence please? I'm not sure where this is coming from. Christianity is most certainly real, Jesus is a historical figure regardless if you believe he's miraculous or not. And it is well recorded that there was a following of Jesus from the 1st century and continued to grow throughout the ages.
“All these people died still believing what God had promised them. They did not receive what was promised, but they saw it all from a distance and welcomed it. They agreed that they were foreigners and nomads here on earth. Obviously people who say such things are looking forward to a country they can call their own. If they had longed for the country they came from, they could have gone back. But they were looking for a better place, a heavenly homeland. That is why God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.”
Hebrews 11:13-16 NLT
JD7708 amen
I don't need gods place, I need my own, gods done nothing for me, why should I bend a knee, the only time i'll do it is when someone is down, and i'll try to pick them up, along with myself.
And that's why Trump is our president. 2020🤘😎👍
@@Bullardicus86 Trump and his fervent supporters haven't shown or spoken of much love or respect for the exiles, the sojourners. Caging the children of the downtrodden, those who seek refuge and safe passage away turmoil and violence, isn't exactly in line with this song - nor is demonizing all peoples of color from less fortunate places outside of the US. You know.. those "shithole" countries.
I don't like God - Any form or version of the idea
Thank you guys for making music for people like us...'not all who wander are lost' - Tolkien. See you at the end, at the Gates.
I love all u guys who have discovered this song nd embrace its value
I need to see them live before I die. I won't be complete until it happens.
Thrice is the best but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave” by SLT 🤘🐺
I saw them 2 days ago and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to
I've seen them live, they're great!
This song hit me hard and and at the core during the homeless times in my life. Thank you Thrice!
Seeing them in DC tonight...peace out Thrice. It's been real.
I actually saw them last year in February
I love these guys! I remember when my (now ex) gf showed me this song back in 2015 and I thought it was awesome! But I didn’t like that they were a Christian band because I was a pretty anti-Christian agnostic/atheist. But I’ve since come to Christ and repented of my sins (which are extensive) and I still have to repent everyday but by the mercy & grace of God the Father & by the blood ransom paid on the cross when He sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to die for the sins of all of humanity so that even a sinner like me; a repeat offender finds redemption. Hallelujah and God bless!
490.000 views? This song should have millions.
And now it does!
I went to high school with Dustin and Teppea used to skate with Teppea back in the day off my friends block. He was bad ass on the skateboard too... Glad he picked up the guitar though. Irvine produced some talent!
Still so glad I was born into the era of Thrice, all of us are truly lucky not to have been born in the 2000's where the media is saturated by generic edm and pop artists. Artists with talent are slowly dying out (career-wise), and while there is merit in the uniqueness of electronic music, there are few tracks that have a beautiful mix of timbre and meaning. A mixture that gives us the chills, built by talented musicians like those in Thrice. Thanks guys, you've made my life that much richer!
Favorite band of all time. Favorite song of all time
Honestly, if music can bring different people together to just enjoy themselves and life then I say lets have more of it.
There are two types of fans:
1. Fans of an album
These individuals love an album
2. Fans of a band
These individuals can appreciate an evolution and progress of a band regardless of the sound or type of the music.
I am the latter. If you want to listen to some "Artist in the Ambulance" type music, go listen to "Artist in the Ambulance." They have every right to adjust their style as they grow and learn.
Best band to hit the planet.
A few weeks ago I found a colored vinyl record of Beggars in a clearance sale bin for not even 4 bucks. Didn't know the band, but I still bought it out of curiosity. When I put it on my turntable and heard this song for the first time, I immediately fell in love. Best choice ever.
Saying hi from Czech republic
This song is pretty darn good
My love for this band knows no bounds, they saved me.
After discovering thrice few days ago, I cannot believe I missed the most underrated band ever. So many songs should be hits !
Happy birthday Beggars
So glad I started listening to this band again they NEVER disappoint me and have so much range. One of the best bands of my generation for sure,
Farewell Thrice, the Chicago show was phenomenal. I've seen you in concert seven times now and you never cease to amaze me. I'll continue to listen to your music for as long as I live.
Wow one of the best songs ever made and only has this many likes. Shame.
I'm pretty sure he's talking about heaven. He's a very faith-based individual.
This song is definitely one of Thrice's best in my opinion. I love how the hope of Dustin's lyrics is so accessible. While Dustin definitely comes across as someone who is firm in what he believes in as far as his faith, he writes in such a way that anybody can relate. I think we can all relate to feeling like we are longing for more in this life. It's just so beautiful that he references a city that endures. Never ending. All is made new. Everyday.
This song is a prime example of the beauty of this band. I have memories from when I was in high school listening to this song and it always brings me back. Thank you Thrice for being so damn awesome.
Listened to this every night in afghanistan, I'll be eternally grateful for this alone.
new album 2016!!!!
Dustin's voice stays young and smooth ever since the start of Thrice
Kaleb Cooper I wouldn't say that. It's gotten more and more husky over time and his timbre is lower now, which I like to be honest.
It could be from smoking. I'm pretty sure he smokes. Maybe that and just age.
Because he's blessed bro
@@jaym9879 Or that he smokes
That didn’t age well
Thrice wins at music.
This album and The Artist in the Ambulance are my favorite Thrice albums.
Mine too!!
Isaiah 65:17-25. Sad that Dustin's deconstructed his faith, but that's life at times. This song still stands. Tears! So beautiful
I sing this song to my daughter to sleep every night and have for years now. Such a beautifully written song from my favorite band
Thrice gives me a relaxed joy feeling.
True Thrice fan... Doesn't bother giving themselves titles like "original thrice fan" just enjoys the music.
these guys are true musicians.. everything they make is gold.
Original Thrice fan...missing Thrice's Old days...
The drummer lives on my planet.
If my life has a theme song, this is it.
So underrated
Best band in the world. They have progressed exactly in the same way my music taste has. They are doing what they want to do and i have so much respect for them.
Man that bass line is epic yet so simple.
No clue how I'm just catching on this........
Stone jam
This is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave Acoustic” by SLT 🎸🤘
If you saw them at the Fillmore in Charlotte, I was working security for that show. Gotta give props to Thrice's fans. With the exception of a few jackoffs who got to pushing and shoving a little early and one guy who wouldn't quit surfing, everyone was passionate about the music and generally well behaved. An odd lineup of bands, but Thrice's set was definitely one of the best I've ever worked. Wished I gotten into listening to them earlier.
i find it quite impressive that the band's been together for 14 years now.
Great high hat tones on this one.
Bought the beggars album for my girlfriend for xmas :) What a masterpiece!
Haha "for your girlfriend" sly move ;)
Brady Dryer Yeah, he obviously wanted some ass ;)
I don't care what kind of Thrice fan I am called I just love their music!
Thrice and Say Anything. Best bands ever.
I have seen Thrice about 8 or 9 times already. And have tix to their last 2 shows....In all the years following Thrice, it never actually crossed my mind they would have a farewell tour :(
I live their Album "Beggars". It has such a raw, earthy sound filled with worldly despair but with the joy of hope eternal.
I think he's talking about life...life in exile...thumbs up
what do you mean they sound good?? they ARE GOOD!
Everyone can interpret it a different way. Everywhere I go people always throw out that Thrice is a Christian band and what not, but I'm not religious at all, and I love Thrice. I interpret it comepletely differently than alot of people.
thrice is just ahead of time there like "yeah we are here now but we're coming from the year 2030"
THRICE! Always....
This is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave Acoustic” by SLT 🎸🤘
This song is such a feeling and a way of life at points of my time here on Earth, so far
Its great to see old school bands like thrice still kicking ass till now and not like the bands now that would just break. Despite the change in genre, loyal supporters would stay through and not argue bout what they suck now cause they change blah blah all that bullshit. Fuck yeah thrice!
Punk..Punkcore..Metalcore....rockabilly/folk? The evolution.
Now this is a LYRIC
This is so good but you must hear “Whispering Wolf” or “The Wave Acoustic” by SLT 🎸🤘
no i dont belong here..i'll never call this place my home im just passin thru
glorious. long live thrice
I remember my cousin telling me to listen to this. When I did listen to this song, I immediately started to like this.
I typically preach my hatred toward most organized religions. I have Thrice tattooed on my leg. I feel ya brother.
I believe this song. Is about Cain. After Cain killed Abel he was cursed to be a Wanderer. Cain even tried to become a city planner to settle down, but God gave him the heart of a Nomad and even kept him safe from harm.
yes i know the song is biblical but, i feel this way in the physical ow God is preparing me for mission work such that america doesnt feel like home atm i'm ready to move
This is my favorite song of all time. Feels like I could have written this.I'm sure I'm not the only one.
#imageoftheinvisible
#144
The more I've listen to Beggars the more I've realized it is by leaps and bounds their best album.
Can't get enough of this song ❤
this video matches with the song beautifully, THRICE is truly what you call a group of artists, on so many levels and angles. You get to feel what they offer you audibly. it seems like this stimulates and opens doors to some part(s) of the human brain..probably makes you a smarter person appreciating this. Such a genius form of abstract art. You cannot make a piece of art like this without truly adding the element of heart. One of the many reasons i have loved this group from the start.
The farewell show in Austin was amazing! Thrice will truly be missed.
This is one of my favorite songs by Thrice! I can relate to it and love it so much after all those listens. Never goes old.
The song that introduced me to Thrice
one of my favorite guitar tones. ever.
Thrice's music is always surreal and constantly growing in diversity and brilliance. Definitely one of those bands I just never lose grip on. Thumbs up!
This song, just amazing
probably my favorite thrice song, the lyrics are simply amazing... and it constantly reminds me that we are only passing through, that we are really are just wandering around trying to find our way
What's stopping you from doing that, man? Go for it!
Essa letra, mermão....essa letra..!!!! ♡
Judia demais!
This is my favorite song of all time. I've never felt more connected to lyrics in my life.
Thrice and Circa Survive should go on tour together...
Can't wait to see their farewell tour
I can rock out to that melody any day of the week.
favourite band
One of my all time favorite songs. Absolutely love it.
no i didnt see them there, it was at Cats Cradle in Carrboro...yeah you are right, we Thrice fans are loyal...in fact the cats cradle show was so amazing there wasnt even a pit, one person surfed once but he got right back in line and continued behaving...it was just like we were showing them how amazing their band is and how they have touched so many lives with their music...like a whole room of fans respecting them...they loved it and thanked us so much, in fact they came out for TWO encores!!
I agree with this completely. I listen to a plethora of music, sometimes I'm overwhelmed with how much I have. But when I look at my tendencies with music, I always tend to come back to bands that sing a message I agree with. Thrice is at the top of that. Anything Dustin Kensrue writes seems to always reach inside me and hit home. Same thing goes for Jon Foreman.
Their old shit rocks and they where never an emo/screamo band just because they used to scream. Listen to Illusion of Safety, they pretty much invented a genre of their own with that album and they continue to do that. They're sound has just evolved and gotten more mellow.
Agreed! They really did change my life and how I think... Feels so empty knowing they are still not back yet. I really hope they come back soon!
I remember getting into these guys because of the remix Dillinger escape plan did for them for the come all you weary ep, after that I fell in love with the band, bought their back catalogue and everyone after. I even met Dustin at one of their gigs in Cardiff, bloody nice guy, incredible band.
I miss them, Thrice is the best band i've ever heard, they changed my life
