I discovered this album while on a plane. Borrow it from a friend and listened to it while flying. Now every song reminds me of being up in the sky at sunset
It's odd how you say that. I had a similar discovery of this while flying to Cali for the first time. So it reminds me of California and flying every time also.
I found this album a couple of days before I was supposed to go on the road, but it was but by car, not by plane. However, I have very similar memories - I also drove through fields and roads at dawn, looking at the sky, clouds and sunlight, with this track in headphones.
What is it about the sound that Thrice produces? How to describe it... There is a depth to the emotion, a sort of sweet youthfulness yet tormented melancholy, and also the colour of nostalgia as the music reaches me after so many years have past. It is lovely to revisit Thrice's early work, especially this album, and especially this song! Epic crescendo! It's just lovely from start to finish! And the lyrics from this track are truly affecting.
I've been listening to Thrice since the Beggars release in '09. This song has gotten me through 15 years of repressed memories from being sexually assaulted as a child, teenage angst, cutting myself, suicide attempts, drinking myself cold... 15 years of writer's block as well. The lyrics are so personal to me, and I truly believe in them. The only way to rid yourself of your pain is to share it; so here I am. I will die with all of my self-harm scars, but one day I might free myself of all the internal turmoil that caused them in the first place. Thank you Dustin, Eddie, Riley, and Teppei.
Wish you the best of luck hopefully it went well! :3 After listening to this song for the first time a while back I too wanted to learn this song not only on keyboard but guitar as well. :)
I know one day, all our scars will disappear, like the stars at dawn And all of our pain, will fade away when morning comes And on that day when we look backwards we will see, that everything is changed And all of our trials, will be as milestones on the way And as long as we live, every scar is a bridge to someone's broken heart And there's no greater love, than that one shed his blood for his friends On that day all of the scales will swing to set all the wrongs to right All our tears, and all of our fears will take to flight But until then all of our scars will still remain, but we've learned that if we'll Open the wounds and share them then soon they start to heal (As long as we live, we are bridges to someone broken heart There's no greater love, shed your blood for your friends) We must see that every scar is a bridge, and as long as we live We must open up these wounds When some one stands in your shoes and will shed his own blood There's no greater love. We must open up our wounds
This song has always been a masterpiece. Thrice fans, please arrange a cover of this song that truly pays homage to the beauty of this piece. It's the only way we can really show our respect to such an epic.
Back in 2009 a friend of mine showed me a video of "A Very Long Engagement" set to this song, called "Miles in the Trenches" I've tried looking for the video, but it's gone now

Dead space for radios. Resistence radio coup de tat. If only God music could take over though we can scan the dials and find music:
Seven years after your comment, I'm telling you: this should be played not "across this nation", but on radio all over the world!
