Those flowers I found you Were the truest red that I'd ever seen Till you cut yourself on their thorns You winced and I kissed you And I kissed your palms and we both laughed So unaware of the gathering storm It's gonna rain, it's gonna rain Till the levee breaks And a tidal wave of fear and pain carries us away Another fight into the night Until nothing else remains How do we find harbor from the hurricane? Now sheltered in shadows The quiet song of your breath stirs the dark Your skin like a rose 'neath my hand And I can't keep from wondering Why nothing good could ever stay Why faith feels like a fistful of sand It's gonna rain, it's gonna rain Till the levee breaks And a tidal wave of fear and pain carries us away Another fight into the night Until nothing else remains How do we find harbor from the hurricane? It's gonna rain, it's gonna rain Till the levee breaks And a tidal wave of fear and pain carries us away Another fight into the night Until nothing else remains How do we find harbor from the hurricane?
I always tell people it's one if the best bands you never heard of! Thrice has been my favorite band for 17 yrs now since their beginning. I'm same age as these cats so I grew up with them "literally" . Need to see them again, been faaarrrr 2 long.
Identity Crisis, Illusions of Safety, & Artist in the Ambulance were good. Vheissu was ok, then after that things started going downhill and I couldn't keep listening. The Alchemy Index was mostly garbage, all that shit about baby bird and the sky is falling and all that shit, it just came off as try hard nonsense. This song is good, great song writing, I'll come back for this type of stuff.
My husband was recently diagnosed with M.S. and by the time he was finally diagnosed, they found multiple lesions along many different parts of his brain. Two of which (one they believe is new as it shown as white matter) are on his frontal lobe, which controls his memory. They said they can't diagnose anything yet but he has been showing signs of what may be early on-set dementia. Already having acute renal failure, malignant hypertension (blood pressure randomly goes stupid high for no reason; like 240/180 stupid) that's destroying his heart (already had 2 heart attacks), and a plethora of other serious health issues, he's been given a time frame (3 months, maybe 6 months with proper and constant treatment and follow-ups with specialists) to live. While we knew his time was numbered but to finally hear it floored us. But worse than that is the fear of him waking up one day, screaming, scared to death because he doesn't this man laying next to him in bed and imagining the hurt and such pain-inducing confusion he would experience as he goes along each and every day, piecing together his and our memories, only to wonder how he forgot and feeling broken; mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I've always loved Thrice but when To Be Everywhere Is To Be Nowhere dropped; I bought it so damn fast. Not having heard any of the songs prior; I started the album and hearing this as the first track gave me goosebumps and brought tears to my eyes. Obviously that was 3 years ago when I bought the album after it released but my husband and I knew because of his illnesses that we would eventually have that "talk" with a doctor and he would be given a timeline. Fast forward to present date, it almost feels like this song was written FOR us and our worries, our love, and now... our pain rather than our worries. Everything from the pain in Dustin's new-found raspy and rugged voice that would visualize a man who has been many places and has hurt in many ways to the lyrics which, as I mentioned earlier, relate to my husband and I as well as everyone who have loved someone in ways that they never knew were possible but only to know that there's a tidal wave coming; no matter how soon or if it will take one or both of them, dragging them into an ocean of pain, leaving that love to only be remembered by people who witnessed their love and what words of adoration and commitment they left etched into the earth. And the question of "how do we find harbor from the hurricane," is a rhetorical question. Nothing and no one can escape death; we just seek shelter to stay together a little longer; my husband taking his medication and staying on top of his treatments to stay a little longer with me. But more importantly, while we may or may not know the shelter won't save us from the inevitable, it will allow us to feel happy and love each other as if nothing could end between us; a placebo, so to speak. A placebo that we are learning to take every day and have no issue with taking it; because it allows us to enjoy every moment we have until the end. Then double the dose afterwards to think of best memories, cherish what they left you, and remember that the wave only took what it was capable of, their physical presence. Love itself will never die and something and someone so special will continue to comfort, assist, and love you until your end, long past their passing. I apologize for such a long, sappy comment. I don't want anyone to feel sorry for us because we have the most amazing gift in the universe; we have a bond and relationship that is beyond loving... a love that we believe is beyond our own understanding or that of mankind's, for that matter. I just wanted to share what this song means to me and I would love to know if it means this much to someone else out there.
You obv have/share something that only some of us can dream of. And to know you are loved like that transcends all. Embrace n cherish what time is left. And when that journey arrives at its final destination embrace n cherish what you had. And when you play this song sing loud sing hard n may it bring you memories of a time when things were perfect
This was so beautiful to read while listening to the song in the back.... thinking of you and the love of your life in these times ... hugs from afar🌌🌠
Dustin is all those things. Teppei is a genius on multiple instruments. The brothers Eddie and Riley setting the foundation and rhythm. They’re a special band
Justin Tarvid You can't. You either like it, or you don't. I happen to choose "love" rather than "like" though. Oh and acoustic performances are my favorite.
They have some a long way since illusions of safety and identity crisis, and I am happy to have been along for the evolution. Almost 2 decades of awesome music
Yes, I am wondering where the shelter is right now for Us!!! The hurricane has swept my wife and I up into a whirlwind of fear and pain and Im grasping at the air trying to hold onto her!!! I LOVE her and will die trying before I give up!!! Your music is deeply moving!!!
Haven't heard this song since I was in a very dark place... Been 3 years since I barely got out and hearing this song for the first time since, this song that helped me hold on.. oh my feels. So grateful for this song!
Teppie is an incredible player, his hooks are some of the most catchy i've ever heard!!! These boys have more talent than any band on radio or at awards shows!!!
Just re discovered thrice after 5 years. Best thing to happen to my ears. i hated this album when i heard it first, that is not the case anymore oh my god was i stupid.. The harmony, melody and rhythm they have is just fantastic. One of the only bands i listen to where every aspect of it gets me so good. the singer is great as are the lyrics and melody. Why aren't they more famous
I first found Thrice when I walked into a CD store looking for a Mastodon album. They didn’t have that one, and I didn’t want to leave with nothing. I’d heard of Thrice and knew of songs like Artist in the Ambulance, but had no idea Beggars had recently been released. I saw the cover and liked it, and in the past I’ve picked up some great albums instinctively, so I went for it. The girl at the cash register recommended something else and warned against Beggars, which further solidified my choice (she didn’t seem like she’d be into the same stuff I like anyway, haha). Beggars is among the albums I’m most fond of to this day-from any artist. Ever since I’ve been a huge Thrice supporter. Lots of their tunes take time to grow on me, and that’s a process I love and enjoy immensely. If I’m not into a Thrice track, I know that’s my problem rather than theirs, and I always assume it’ll click one day. It does every time, without fail. I now love their entire discography for what it is, and what is seem to be in relation to my perception at any given moment. I’ll be seeing them live again next week.
That's awesome! I had read articles about Artist back in the day and thought it sounded right up my friend's alley. I bought it for him for his birthday and ended up falling in love too. Hey, if you see them, tip their merch guy Danny and tell him Brad from Toronto says hey! He's a great dude.
Those flowers I found you Were the truest red that I’d ever seen Till you cut yourself on their thorns You winced and I kissed you And I kissed your palms and we both laughed So unaware of the gathering storm.. Loved this rendition, got turned on to Thrice through Dustin's solo acoustic stuff. I love the growth and evolution of the band, I think it's similar to the transition that Brand New went through stylistically as well. Please keep gems like this coming
This song I play over and over. I lost my mom Feb 2nd. Going through a horrible divorce but with the man that is my complete soul mate. Thus song has multiple meanings and gets me in my feels.
I'm absolutely as a mother of three boys that love four wheeling and getting dirty I let them be inspired by music too since my father is a Latin percussionist. THRICE and the vocalist he's a Christian and a piney I could only be so lucky to be at that acoustic performance
Wow, incredible...this is talent kids. A rare find, unfortunately, amongst most of the "new" music nowadays. It's great to know there are still some exceptions out there creating great music...thank you Thrice! :)
Don't care of this is an old video, I'm here regardless 😂. If I could sing like Dustin I would never shut the f-ck up. They found their sound for real in the alchemy index and haven't looked back. I love the old albums, but holy shit are they so much better now. Absolutely amazing.
I was in Baton Rouge at the time of Katrina and did clean up plumbing after the water was pumped out, was horrible scene. French Quarters was up and running within weeks which was crazy.
What a voice man. I knew the band from the artist in the ambulance and found the other songs just by pure luck.. oh my gosh, what did I miss all this time?!
Those flowers I found you
Were the truest red that I'd ever seen
Till you cut yourself on their thorns
You winced and I kissed you
And I kissed your palms and we both laughed
So unaware of the gathering storm
It's gonna rain, it's gonna rain
Till the levee breaks
And a tidal wave of fear and pain carries us away
Another fight into the night
Until nothing else remains
How do we find harbor from the hurricane?
Now sheltered in shadows

Your skin like a rose 'neath my hand
And I can't keep from wondering
Why nothing good could ever stay

How do we find harbor from the hurricane?
Thanks for posting these lyrics. This is a beautiful song.
You guys gotta get them back in for more songs, this as well as Black Honey was just beautiful.
I love it so much Beautiful song I love black Honey to
Thank you for these !! Wow. Shedding tears.
Excellent..👌
Thrice is one of the most underrated bands out there.
So good!
rock steady

No words! I cant live without this band!
People who stopped listening to Thrice after their first few albums are really missing out.
Hopefully they'll eventually realize there error in their ways.
I started listening to them shortly after Artist came out and haven't stopped. I feel like I grew as a person the more they grew as musicians.
The Thrice I heard a while back sounds nothing like this at all
Identity Crisis, Illusions of Safety, & Artist in the Ambulance were good. Vheissu was ok, then after that things started going downhill and I couldn't keep listening. Thrice should composite all of their acoustic renditions onto an album
It would be a Thricegasim!
Can we take like...partial credit for inspiring this rad idea?
i would die of happiness.
This needs to happen.
Great idea.
There is such an emotional ache in his voice that is somehow comforting
Right? What a talent!
Beautifully put
That's what I love about his voice. It's visceral.
i relate to this so incredibly much
Very comforting
The most unique chord structure combined with lyrics..simply Powerful
I used to rock my son to sleep humming and singing this song. Dustin is an incredibly talented lyricist, vocalist, and songcrafter. Thrice 4evaeva
This is so good but you must hear “The Wave Acoustic” or “Whispering Wolf” by SLT 🤘🎧🎸
Dustin is all those things. Teppei is a genius on multiple instruments. The brothers Eddie and Riley setting the foundation and rhythm. They’re a special band
One of the best Thrice songs acoustic! All are good but this one… amazing!

Telling the story. A real treasure. If you’re not moved there is no hope.
Who in the hell could like Thrice and dislike this performance?
Justin Tarvid
You can't. You either like it, or you don't.
I happen to choose "love" rather than "like" though. Oh and acoustic performances are my favorite.
Justin Tarvid probably someone who just doesn't like this song. This whole album was awesome. I think Beggars might be my favorite though.
Probably some rap fan.... :D
This song has a country vibe to it , but as far as music goes I think its great
Forest almo How did you get a country vibe from this song? Is it because they are playing acoustics?
They have some a long way since illusions of safety and identity crisis, and I am happy to have been along for the evolution. Almost 2 decades of awesome music
Yes, I am wondering where the shelter is right now for Us!!! The hurricane has swept my wife and I up into a whirlwind of fear and pain and Im grasping at the air trying to hold onto her!!! I LOVE her and will die trying before I give up!!! Your music is deeply moving!!!

oh man I am glad I just discovered this
Those flowers I found you
Were the truest red that I’d ever seen
Till you cut yourself on their thorns
You winced and I kissed you
And I kissed your palms and we both laughed
So unaware of the gathering storm..
It’s gonna rain, it’s gonna rain
Till the levee breaks
A tidal wave of fear and pain carries us away
Another fight into the night
Until nothing else remains
How do we find harbour from the hurricane?
Now sheltered in shadows
The quiet song of your breath stirs the dark
Your skin like a rose ‘neath my hand
I can’t keep from wondering
Why nothing good can ever stay
Why faith feels like a fistful of sand..

There's nothing better than this.
NOTHING?! That's a hell of a compliment, thanks!
This piece is like a kick in the stomach. so many feelings.
I’ve never heard a more perfect song. ❤️
This is literally the saddest song..
Ever? In the history of all songs? Well, damn!
Try The Whaler live at Interface sessions, now THAT is sad ;)
Are you familiar with All Star by Smash Mouth?
Salt and shadow by Thrice is a tear jerker.
Salt and shadow is more meloncholly. This one is more about the persistence of the human spirit I think. It's not sad to me. It's hopeful.
Incredible song and performance 🙏🤘🏼

What a voice man. I knew the band from the artist in the ambulance and found the other songs just by pure luck.. oh my gosh, what did I miss all this time?!
