- I made this video by request of my subscribers. When I first moved off the grid in 1984, I Needed a way to make a living from the comforts of my cabin. I made limited edition prints from my pencil drawings and my career as a freelance artist began.
Homesteading off the grid and on the mountain certainly has its challenges but there's no place we'd rather live. We restored the old camp and transformed it into a cozy home for ourselves, then we cleared more land, built a workshop and greenhouse and in spite of the challenges of living on ledge -we succeeded in creating an abundant garden. Little by little we're reaching our goals of having a self sufficient homestead.

Today I celebrated my 48th birthday. All 3 of my children surprised me on my lunchbreak along with my 11 month old grandson with a homemade dinner of backstraps and fresh cut fries. My wife of 26 yrs made me my favorite cake along with some chocolate custard ice cream. Then I get back to work and find this gem of a video! As I grow older I have learned to appreciate the little things more and more so to you Boss I say thank you. Your timing for this video was superb. It really put the icing on my birthday cake! What, no drawing of bubble foil, rubber cut outs???? Just kidding! What a true talent you have in your drawings! Husband & I visited Alaska (he was paid by his company for a month to work in & around Anchorage & beyond a bit) & it was so beautiful! Saw Beluga whales along the Seward highway, went to Chugach state park & a conservation park with moose sparring, bears playing in a huge pond. Saw ice floes & the water was sooooooooo cold! (Really liked Girdwood, AK). Had the best Halibut & enjoyed the Moose's Tooth pizza! Good times. Enjoyed your video.

I do remember your work... I have no idea where I may have seen it, likely an outdoor show. It shows some real talent JC... and given your other talents and outdoor skills, and homesteading expertise... it’s fantastic. Your videos, I’ve enjoyed for years, and the evolution of your journey has been good to see. You and Lori are authentic, organic, pioneering, and fun. You both see the best in situations, and together make a great team. Lest I forget the border collies, you really should consider drawing them! It would be all too fitting.

My mother was a fantastic artist and did a lot of black and white like this but also did some water color and different colored ink drawings. She absolutely loved Norman Rockwell. I am restoring my Grandfather’s old hunting camp and I purchased your “Little Stinkers” print which more than likely will be hung in the bathroom. LOL. Thank you for this wonderful chance to buy a piece of your collection. Also, when you are back in NY, I am about an hour away from your cabin there, I could lend a hand if needed. Take care.

If I could buy one it would be the hard choice of the Boss with his Dog, or the last one with all his things he grew up with, or the one with all those raccoons, but his things he grew up with with the puppies ( one his) would be the one I would go for. I'm looking at the print "Country Comfort" that I have hanging next to my family heirloom antique wood cook stove and I think you "overlooked" a little detail when describing the calendar on the wall, ok, I won't say. Ordered "Forgotten Treasures" to add to my collection of JC fine art, hope I ordered in time and your art sale is a sellout. The hidden details in your drawings is like Bev Doolittle's art which I'm sure you're familiar with.

I would love to say that those prints are absolutely beautiful. I wasn't much good at art but I can write a story or a poem/ verse now, but I have never had any published. woo hoo, just bought two. so happy as I have no art hung up currently in our cabin on higher ground, but hubs and I both felt it was so reasonable and we adore you, got the outhouse for our bathroom and the raccoon driving the truck for the living space. We just have one room with a bath cabin so we stopped there but what treasures for the rest of our lives. juanita mae

After all the years I finally have the joy of seeing your artwork.
Must say after tagging along these years and have gotten to know you and all of the wonderful other things you have created I find your drawings and your talent even more grand then I imagined! Your attention to detail was shown to be amazing and the drawings are so good they could be actual photographs. Being an artist myself as I mentioned along the way I can so deeply understand the hundreds of hours it took to create just one masterpiece.
Always hopeful this day would come to get to see some of your work. Finding it meant to to come full circle and after all the years will be funding a business of yours once again...
Extra special for me today as this is one of the special things I can think of that could make me smile through my tears of the most difficult medical news I never dreamed I would ever hear.
So a heartfelt thank you my friend. I know you know exactly what that means. Chilling to the bone and holding tightly to my faith as I will continue as always to stay as positive as I can be and thankful beyond measure for the miracle of life

Surely hope if you have a spare prayer I would be so thankful. Lol when you were going through your ordeal I recall my words with God brought such amaxing assurance that you were going to be wonderfully fine because you just weren't finished yet! That sensation to me was some special kind of miracle. I have had a few very poignant ones over time and that one definitely is on that list. Just goes to show the power in prayer in faith and in God and how we can all be there for each other no matter. Yes even for the ones we've never personally met but are blessed with a friendship from afar.
Medical will likely be taking most or all of my pennies so sadly I won't most likely be able to order. But the pics will forever be part of my memory which is probably the most lasting place anyway.

I ordered one of your prints a couple of weeks ago. It’s the trout print, A Cast in the Shadows. It will go great in our cabin. Our cabin is surrounded by trout ponds in the Georgia Mountains. *I just ordered Little Stinkers too. It will hang proudly in the Shit-ah! My wife is a Savanna College or Art Design grad. She used to draw too but hasn’t for many years. 😔

Those drawings are amazing! I'm curious though, what about the originals? Do you keep them in a safety deposit box? How do you keep them from degrading over time or getting damaged?

I do or have done art work / sketching myself and every time I see yours I tell myself get off your lazy arse, I'm retired now and just need to make the time.
