GBO2 RX-0 Unicorn Gundam (post-buff): Melee berserker general!

  • This video contains two matches I had with the recently buffed Unicorn Gundam on Gundam Battle Operation 2. It is a 700 cost general with good mid-range damage in normal mode, absurd melee output in NT-D mode, good stagger output, great NT-D mobility, access to LV2 Power Accelerator and good durability in Awaken mode. Its weaknesses include only having 20000 HP, having poor ranged damage in NT-D mode, awful ranged damage in Awaken mode, high HP drain in NT-D mode and much more modest melee damage in Awaken mode. This suit was recently buffed to have LV1 Maneuver Armor in normal mode, 5 seconds cooldown time on the beam magnum, 300x11 power, 5.5 seconds cooldown and 10 seconds reload for the shrapnel bazooka, 10000 shield HP, time to enter Awaken reduced to 30 seconds, +10 melee modifier in NT-D, LV2 Power Accelerator in NT-D, 90%x2 downswing power and 0.5 seconds swap time for the dual sabers. This suit was pretty much the worst 700 general for a while now, and it has gotten a great list of buffs to make up for that. I hope that you enjoy watching!
    Its primary ranged weapon is a beam magnum with 3600 power, 5 ammo, 5 seconds cooldown, 14 seconds reload, 0.77 seconds swap time, 350m range, 0.8 seconds focus time and 10% stagger value. This needs to focus before firing, but it does incredible damage and has a small splash radius. It can really chunk enemies if you are in normal mode.
    Its primary melee weapon is a single beam saber (two in NT-D) with 2900 power, 2.5 (2) seconds cooldown, 0.77 (0.5) seconds swap time and standard melee modifiers (70% combo modifier and 90%x2 downswing modifier in NT-D). This is a pretty standard beam saber before transformation, but it has a wide sweeping moveset with amazing speed and damage after NT-D activates.
    Its first sub weapon is a head vulcan with 150 power, 40 ammo, 600 RPM, 11 seconds reload, 0.5 seconds swap time, 200m range, 1500 DPS and 6% stagger value. This is really strong for a head vulcan, with great DPS and the ability to stagger in just 1.7 seconds.
    Its second sub weapon is a shrapnel bazooka with 300x11 power, 5 ammo, 5.5 seconds cooldown, 10 seconds reload, 1 second swap time, 200m range and 15%x11 stagger value. This is a versatile weapon with both high damage and stagger power, more accurate at close range. This has incredible stagger value so it can stun suits in one shot, you can follow up with vulcans if you miss some shots.
    Its third sub weapon is a beam tonfa with 3500 power, 2 seconds cooldown, 0.33 seconds swap time, 100% side swing modifier and 150% downswing modifier. This has absolutely incredible power, but all the swings are quite slow. It isn't practical to initiate combos with this, but it is excellent for using after a double saber downswing.
    The Unicorn Gundam has 20000 HP, 24 ballistic resist, 25 beam resist and 29 melee resist. This level of HP is quite low for 700 cost, it is tied with the Nu Gundam for having the lowest at this cost for LV1 suits. It gets better once Awaken mode is activated, but it isn't great before that. It has a 10% leg buffer, LV1 Maneuver Armor and LV1 Emergency Evasion before NT-D; but it gets a 15% leg buffer, LV2 Emergency Evasion once it does turn on.
    It also has 135 (140) walk speed, 225 (235) boosting speed, 75 thrust and 75 (87) turning speed. It has decent mobility before NT-D, but it gets pretty amazing mobility once it activates. It has LV2 Forced Injector and Flight Control normally, but these are buffed to LV4 and LV3 respectively once NT-D turns on.
    Its most important skill is the LV1 NT-D System, which can be activated via the touchpad at 80% HP or less. This drains 75 HP per second, but grants +40 melee modifier, -20 ranged modifier, all the aforementioned skills and stat boosts, LV1 Offence System, LV2 Power Accelerator along with fully repairing leg and head HP. After 30 seconds have passed in NT-D it can then activate Awaken mode via the touchpad. This restores 4000 HP, stops the HP drain and decreases incoming damage by 15%. This comes at the cost of -45 melee modifier and -20 ranged modifier though, so carefully consider if it is worth activating or not.
    Overall I feel like the Unicorn Gundam is in a really balanced state right now, obviously not as strong as the cost breaking Banshee Norn, but it is powerful enough to at least stand a chance against it and the other 700 costers. I think I didn't show off the full potential of this suit since I always activated Awaken ASAP, rather than staying in regular NT-D for the insane melee damage output. That is the primary weakness of the suit, NT-D drains a lot of HP and Awaken stops that drain, at the cost of a massive 45 melee modifier. I think it is definitely worth playing now, I could see it being one of the stronger 700 generals once Norn gets nerfed. Thanks for watching, and I hope that you enjoyed it!

      S- playing the most OP suit in the game, runs away and comes back only when its 2v1, shuffles on me after I die. Even after all that this dude only did 24k damage 😭😭😭

    Glad the the OG got a buff. That Maneuver Armor was definitely needed. Now they need to nerf the living hell out of the Norn.

    Hey Avenger nice teamwork in the Arctic base match, was running my alt account Turantal at the time clearing dailies and the 2nd place damage was quite behind by around half. Anyways i run a different build for the Unicorn maximising it's damage potential per mode instead of stacking Beam resist for damage reduction. I gave Unicorn mode 65 range strength which is quite handy in dealing big burst damage on players while having 73 melee strength in Destroy mode at the cost of having 40 beam resist. The build at least allows the Unicorn to do some more damage in awakened mode too being 15 range & 28 melee. Another Unicorn gameplay showing off the base mode would be nice to show off it's range damage capabilities as it's damage output is quite good now thanks to the weapon buffs.

      Would have been reasonable tbh, even just 21000 like pre-nerf. If Banshee Norn doesn't get nerfed then maybe they can buff Unicorn again.

      Maybe, but that would probably be a few months away. I really did find myself regretting using the Awaken so early considering how little damage I was dealing. NT-D let me kill another Unicorn in one melee combo, really absurd damage lol.

    I really dont understand nerfing the melee and range power once you Awakened it. In the anime, awakened unicorn is godtier. Also after surviving the 1st NT-D with the cost of 75 HP second it should reward the player better than nerfing the stats.

    Base banshee is just being left in the dust. Being possibly the worst of all unicorn variants

      It might be the worst of the Unicorn variants, but it's still not the worst native 700 raid. Banshee is held back a lot by not having an Awakened mode to stop the HP loss, and needing to use a stop-to-fire weapon as the only ranged follow up.
      Zaku IV IP is still hurting from being huge, having one melee hit with two different weapons that are awkward to land, and not really keeping up with other suits at the cost that tend to get a noticeable spike in power through hitting a certain HP percentage or NT-D. It's almost rougher to play than Nightingale, because it really needs to be played a certain way (which involves landing those melee hits while being a slippery hover suit), where Nightingale can at least hang back and shoot with Heavy Stagger and various other weapons, and then literally fly into melee range when there's an opening.

      @@ianchoi7142 If it helps at all, Banshee is the only one of the series so far that feels very different from the others. Unicorn and Norn feel like they are different loadouts of the same suit, similar to any variation of a grunt that has two versions at the same cost.
      Phenax has a similar feel to them before NT-D, but the ranged focus, funnels, and team healing change the pattern the other two have of just wanting to downswing. It has a good melee moveset, but it feels weird to unlock melee that is easier to land and combo with while also noticing that your base melee damage goes under 20. It's the most unique of the generals with things like the boost ram (which I can't say I've ever seen anyone use on purpose), shield funnels, and having your back cannons be an integral part of combos that you may forget can't fire while they're off attacking someone.
      Though I've found the Banshee itself often plays best if you're willing to be a little reserved with activating NT-D and embrace the still decent melee and slightly stronger ranged damage. Similar to using EXAM, you're often best to save it for when it makes a big swing in the fighting. The mini meme beam is also a more handy tool than people give it credit for, since it can stop MA or nail a support from a distance, including the fact that it can basically ignore Kshatriya's stun resistance.
      Though we now have two other heavy attack raids at 700 (I don't really count EZZ with how hard it is to land without a lot of practice and setup), and both have a lot of ranged game and heavy stuns available. So Banshee is probably due a buff, and if I'm being honest, it kinda feels like it should have one more weapon or a way to change the main gun for some additional effect.
      I wish you luck with pulling one of the others. But if it helps, I'm a huge fan of mid-range generals, and Nu with Hyper Bazooka is on pace or better than Phenax in many situations. +20 onto beam and melee defense, everything else into ranged damage, and Psycoframe if you have it, and it can just deal out near-constant damage and stuns to as many as 3 enemies in a very short time. So you can kite from a distance with your high walking speed, multiple dodges, and funnel shield, as your funnels and ballistic damage really add up. Or apply the same situation for when your team pushes.
      I'm assuming you have Nu if you have Banshee, since it's been a free suit recently and in RT before that. Phenax actually has a bit more trouble being as consistent from a distance, but gains the ability to push with funnels shields, better melee, and the boosting skill that increases speed and lowers stun after about a second of boosting, along with that crash damage that I really wish I remembered existed. But everyone always stops short of hitting anyone so they can stun or go for melee, which seems silly when you remember there's a guaranteed 2k damage and stun from just bashing into things like you're playing GTA.

      @@scottwrathfon9872 I'm on PC so we didn't get that event (yet, maybe). I don't have Nu but I have Hi-Nu instead. Not a fan of it's beam rifle charge being burst fire. Walking speed also too slow for my taste. Damage output is also lower than I'd like especially if I'm playing in 700. Honestly I can chalk it up to me not skilled enough for 700 or not knowing how to use Hi-Nu. Recently got Sinanju Stein and watched Avenger's video on it and claiming it to be OP, while I look at it and try to figure out how to should be used given it's odd loadout and not understanding why its claimed as being OP. As much as I want to like Hi-Nu (being one of very few 4 star suits in possession) it's overall feel doesn't suit me. So far I'm only finding real success with Freedom than any other suits I have, what with most suits I have at 700 being LV2 or not native to cost at all.
      Reading this back it does sound like skill issue, but I genuinely can't figure out how some suits are suppose to be played even after watching videos on them. Sad to say I was happy to get my hands on a general ReZEL, but disappointed it doesn't live up to expectations likely due to reasons stated above contributing to it (or maybe it's a bad suit, which I hope it ain't).
