Meet the all-new Range Rover Sport SV!
The most powerful Range Rover ever created is finally here, and Mat’s about to see if it’s worth the £169,000+ price tag!
Starting off with the design, this thing is absolutely plastered in carbon fibre! There’s a carbon fibre bonnet, and carbon vents across most of the front end. There’s also an updated bumper and splitter compared to the standard Range Rover. The car also comes with optional carbon fibre alloys and a little side skirt along the car. Around the back, you’ll find quad tailpipes, but all-in-all the car still pairs elegance with sporty styling well.
Step inside and the SV is just as luxurious as the regular Range Rover. There’s leather throughout the cabin, as well as Alcantara on the roof lining. The SV also comes with carbon fibre-backed sports seats as well as a ceramic gear selector, and of course all of the usual luxuries like a fridge in the centre console and soft-close doors.
Under the bonnet, the 5-litre supercharged V8 has been swapped for BMW’s glorious 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 - the same V8 from the M5 CS, no less! As a result the SV now puts down 635hp and 750Nm of torque. Power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic gearbox, and the car can hit 60mph in just 3.6 seconds.
So it’s super powerful and super fun to drive - but it costs an incredible £169,000! So is it worth it? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!

The 2005 Range Rover Sport is quite reliable like 2023 Range Rover Sport.
Why don't you review Japanese luxury cars, Matt Watson?
20th like
Q: Why don't Range Rover drivers wave at each other?
A: Because they've seen each other at the service centre already.
they've seen each other at the service centre already**
Which shop? Waitrose? Sainsbury’s? Tesco’s? Not ASDA!
That actually happened for me and my pal when we both owned JLR cars. Loved my RR but it was a money pit
That’s an objectively shit joke that barely has a punch line.

"land rover is aware of the problem" fucking right they are, every time a car they built gets nicked they sell another one via the insurance.
"Isuzu and Mitsubishi also are aware of the problem".
They sell another one, but it takes five months for the dealership to deliver it. Back-orders on the SV models etc.
Evil but clever. Thieves get a nice Range, don’t get the harsh punishments from the Gov, Range Rover Corporate helps them bypass the security systems and get’s to sell another one and you’d think the insurance companies would be stuck footing the bill but of course not, that gets presented to the owners via higher premiums. Honestly I don’t even think any of them wants anything to change. One way or another it’s the owner who get’s shafted at every turn.
@@GeneralKatoRange Rover definitely want a change. I guarantee there sales in the uk will plummet this year, second hand prices are crashing like mad so I doubt they’re moving a lot of new models either
They are fitting the latest UWB security system to older models. Only 11 cars have been stolen with that fitted because the keyless theft method doesn't work. The problem is there are thousands of older vehicles not upgraded.
They have also engaged a security company at the ports to check Land Rover container exports.
I think it is mindboggling that when a car manufacturer replaces physical buttons with a screen that controls literally everything, they decide to install a tablet with lousy performance? The car might drive like a dream, but that screen will annoy you all the time, every day, all year around.
A touch screen controlling mechanical operations? what could go wrong? Not for me.
Well a lot of companies are cutting costs now so putting all the buttons and switches into a tablet saves them a lot of money
@@TheWarback1 Not many of those companies install a tablet with a CPU from 2001 though.
Even better when combined with the mandated driver attention cameras that beep whenever you look away from the road ...
its more mind boggling that they are sold out... when they cost as much as a Urus
I can't believe how expensive it is to insure a Range Rover or Land Rover. It's ridiculous!
They deserve it for buying the car.
Dont worry about them, like he said, most are paid for by companies, and they are taking taxes they should be paying, and buying luxury cars. Thats why he said how much tax a company would have to pay, he doesnt say that for a corsa. This 500 edition is actually aimed at fleet buyers, they probably counted there are 500 companies in the uk buying lets say more than 10 range rover each, this will be offered to them as a thanks. If any of them dont want them, they will then be offered to footballers etc. So don't really worry about these people and dont aspire to be them, they are all scum.
It's not ridiculous at all, put yourself in the shoes of the underwriters, these things are going missing constantly and the insurers have to stump up the full price of them, would you keep insuring them?
I've a hyundai santa fe,full no claims, protected, no claims...they doubled my premium on renewal.its on all cars with keyless entry which is an overrated extra anyway.

The real thieves are insurance companies, the moment their service is really needed they quit, god forbid they actually help people
it amazes me how they manage to make such a killing but hardly anybody notices
It’s not the insurers fault. It’s a 100k car if it gets stolen they would need to sell 50 people 2k a year policies to make it up.
Put yourself in their shoes: you know there is a high likelihood that a very expensive vehicle will get stolen; if it is your money, do you put it there or with a different vehicle? I know what your answer is, so I am not sure why you feel that they should do it.
Additionally, as pointed out by someone else in this thread, if one gets stolen, they need to sell more than fifty £2K policies without any losses in order to just break even. The number would really be closer to sixty because about 20% of premium goes to operating expenses.
@@aiexielplays8028 Do yourself a favor and look into insurers' loss ratios. I cannot speak for the UK, but in the US combined ratio (loss ratio plus expenses) was 111.8 in 2022. That means that for every dollar in premium they paid out nearly $1.12. I ask you: is that making a killing?
Just because you had no losses does not mean lots others did not. The whole basis of insurance is spread of risk, where the losses of the few are paid for by the premiums of the many who do not have losses. It is a calculated risk where you are betting you'll have a loss and they are betting that you won't.
You can always feel free to self-insure - at least you can in the US. But, you had better believe that you need to have sufficient cash on hand to pay losses out of pocket, pay attorneys, pay adjusters, etc. when loss time comes around. And, even if you do have that kind of money, do you want to take that chance?

Love the IWC top gun watch you are wearing. I’ve got the 2014 model
I hadn't noticed, it wasn't being obviously displayed quite enough. And good for you for having one too.
The government needs to implement heavier sentencing for car thieves in general to also manage this. There needs to be multi-tier work done to safe keep vehicles.
It’s madness with luxury item crime these days.
Our government protects criminals. They have an incentive as our justice is so weak. Government can only take money from law odibing people. It is obliged to give criminals everything.
Same goes to 2004 Range Stormer Concept...
The government is useless they probably don’t care
Never going to happen under the current sentencing guidelines. Judges are told the prisons are full and to try to avoid custod where possible and to give short sentences. We need an overhaul from the top to the bottom of the whole justice system because it's completely broken.
The gov has gone woke. cops dont even turn up to car thefts . its so insurance makes more money which gov pockets

To be fair, the fault wasn't due to unreliability it was down to human error, if someone had put the oil in the car, the car wouldn't have broken down.
What I like about you Matt is that you're as objective as possible. No bragging about. No extra unnecessary stunts about British cars. Telling it as it is. You deserve an applause and my good luck wishes from Türkiye.

14:23 that's why Xantia Activa was programmed to have some roll, because while system could corner entirely flat, people found it weird feeling
Rolls royce created a entirely soundproofed car but people got nauseous driving it so they allowed a small bit of sound in.

@@eugene9852 that's nonsense, if anything it'll help use tyres more since suspension geometry won't be as affected and tyre contact patch is maintained better, especially for inner tyres.

Land Rover: Yes
So ugly too. On a stupid gigantic SUV in about the most unsporty form imagineable but yeah let's toss some carbon fibre in there...

Couldn’t agree more, I had 2022 SVR, then went to this. Of course the performance is different but the feel and controls in the car we poorly put together old model way more practical
The "old rotary dial" at 5:22 is not a gear selector, it's a drive mode selector.
Try getting that insured. £2680 annual for me and I’m nearly 50. Utter bonkers how insurance companies are being allowed to continually rip us all off. Something needs to be done across the board

Fantastic resale values, mine locked me out in the middle of a field with the engine running, headlights on, couldn't use the app to open as it thought I was driving it, eventually AA opened by forcing the window and using the window button, infotainment useless, and weeks to get into the garage, where one of the Jaguar guys said they were being asked to work on LR but didn't want to as there was so much wrong, had it new for 6 weeks, went straight back, it was in the garage more than on my drive, I was so looking forward, but wouldn't go near them now,
9:21 The previous LR RR Sport was available with carbon fibre pkg as well.
IWC Topgun.... Nice !
What I don't understand is why can't they just work on the security of the damn car ???
They’re spending £10M doing just that, but the thieves will overcome it or the people to get the vehicle.
Exactly
I believe they are, all new cars have better security and update are being rolled out to older vehicles, but the insurance companies don't want to take the risk as there is no hard evidence yet.
Security of the car is fine, it's the 1000s of foreign criminals in the UK that is the problem

Does the new model have dual round or square exhaust? I believe I've seen both.
They have been bumping up the insurance on my Focus due to keyless theft. My car doesn't even have keyless entry, only keyless start; yet it still affects it the insurance. On top of that my insurer has tried justifying nearly doubling my premium over a year due to "inflation". I understand that insurance prices are rising, but you cannot blame inflation for nearly doubling my annual premium.
higher insurance is also because new cars are getting more and more expensive at least on paper, but when you buy you get huge discoun but insurance company uses sticker price for value, this is the biggest scam

I just insured my new (2020) Defender and the situation changes day by day. Elephant won't quote for one today, but they did last week and luckily I saved the quote ref - £630 fully comp on a P400.
It's amazing how such a low-quality vehicle can be so expensive and sought-after. It's not like Land Rover is new to building cars. They've been building the Range Rover for over half a century, and they still can't get it right.
Just because it’s not Asian
And people with more money than sense keep buying them, which is just as bad.
Low quality? You don't understand how sophisticated this thing is and you certainly cannot afford it.
I heard it's a pleasure to drive and that's why people buy it. I don't think it's low quality and i don't think it's less reliable than any other European car. I really don't think a new BMW, Audi, Mercedes will run passed 300k km without some fixing. Myself i like Japanese cars
Honestly, it is sad because I just love the looks and can (luckily) afford to buy a RR. However, the cost of maintaining my RR Velar (2021) has so far surpassed having TWO Volvo XC90's (2018 and 2022) that my dad has. Full insurance included. Never had so many issues with a SUV before :(

The phrase 'a fool and their money are soon parted' comes to mind with regards to people buying new Range Rovers. The running costs are truly eyewatering. Between the fuel economy, benefit in kind, depreciation and insurance, I reckon you'd honestly be cheaper running a Veyron. At least it wouldn't depreciate.
Autocar published DVLA data which shows a 28.6% fall in RR Sport thefts year on year. The theft rate of the current RR in the UK is running at 0.08% and none of those where by keyless entry.

Good grief insurance is expensive in the UK!! I only pay around £450 pounds per year for third party, full comp for my Discovery 5 and that also includes insurance for riding bicycles (as is now mandatory here in Japan). It is true that we have compulsory insurance and optional insurance here. The compulsory insurance is paid at the time of the bi-annual M.O.T. to the Land Transport Bureau and is about £270 (covers 2 years) but is insufficient cover, hence almost everyone gets optional insurance on top. It is still way less than a £1000 pounds per year. As for Land Rover's insurance, it is administered and provided by Wrisk Transfer Limited who also do insurance for BMW and Volvo etc.. It makes sense that Land Rover are also therefore refusing to insure vehicles of people living in certain high risk areas. The only way that Land Rover can fully offer all customers insurance is if they set up their own subsidiary insurance company. Even then it isn't that simple as all insurance companies will themselves take out insurance with reinsurance companies such as Lloyds, Swiss Re and Transatlantic Reinsurance Company etc. which will have limits on the amount of risk they are willing to undertake.
