Scientist here! My guess is that the weight gained from a even whole bottle of ink would be insignificant. Most of the weight contributing to a bottle of tattoo ink is water (or some other solvent). During healing, your mast cells, neutrophils, and a whole host of other immune cells would likely move a large amount of this liquid away from the wound site, leaving extremely small droplets of the pigment behind. Not to mention how much ink do we normally see being wiped away from the tattoo site as the artist tattoos? I’d say a large portion of that ink never actually gets into your dermal layer in the first place. These are just my somewhat educated guesses though! 😊

I got a tattoo done by an apprentice who had barely a year’s experience. She drew a super cute art, but 3 hours in on an hour tattoo and she was in *tears* because she couldn’t get the background to go how she wanted. It was supposed to have some “confetti” but the pinks just did NOT work. I asked her if she wanted to call it quits and she agreed. I took it in stride and was happy she tried so hard. Artists gotta learn and I always get a good laugh when a doc or nurse thinks I have a crazy permanent rash because of the pink everywhere!

Ive done this with hair. Whenever I can, I get my hair done at a beauty college. I dont care that much about little mistakes and they have to learn somehow! It's the same with tattooing just more permanent.
The first time I got a tattoo (a year ago) I didn't remove it correctly and it was a pain. I'm getting my second tattoo in a week, so I'm curious as to how much of a difference there'll be with the right technique!

I have social anxiety and went to a new artist 2 months ago for a tattoo for my Nana. She passed the day before so I was messed up. The artist misunderstood what I wanted and although her design was well done, I hated it. I nearly started crying thinking about getting it cause it wasn't right. Thankfully she noticed my expression and told me she's happy to change it, I just needed to tell her what was wrong with it. She came back with a beautiful sketch and it had so much detail I didn't expect. It's to represent my Nana's love of sewing and the design looks sewn. Going back to that artist for a thigh tattoo this year

@@alexshaw8167 I think I would have cried too much before the stencil was even done. I'm pretty good at speaking up about tattoos but I was just a mess that day. She's a great artist though and really helped me. I'm so happy with it and I think my Nana would have loved it
I loved that first video! My parents saw my new sword tattoo and my mom said she is seriously concerned I might get into selling weapons/ being a criminal, because of my tattoos. My parents generally act like my tattoos make me a totally different person, when in reality, they just never knew the real me, because they forced me to push myself down and ignore my own wishes, in order to fit their idea of who I should be. And it's so annoying. I can't wait to have a proper job and become fully independent and cut them off.

I have two tattoos by the same apprentice and I absolutely love that I was a part of his early tattooing journey. He has gone on to bigger and better tattoos and my tattoos have some shaky linework but I was one of his first clients and I love that
I did the same! I don't regret it and I love that I was part of the artists career in an important way. I got some simple designs that were easy to modify and had both tattoos expanded and touched up later by the artist once she had more experience.

Lauren babes, can you do a video on artists who cover scars with ink that matches the person's natural skin tone? It's so flipping cool and means so much to the clients. I know you would do a great job with it 💖✨

I've heard from artists you're supposed to take off 2nd skin in the shower, but pull it like a command strip. Don't peel it back over itself, just sort of stretch it at a slight angle so the adhesive comes off. Super painless for me!

I feel the anxiety-thing so much. When I was around 20, I got this huge tattoo. The stencil looked so bad, but I was convinced that the artist will make it look awesome (also, I already paid the deposit). It was super bad. I will get it covered, finally, this week and I am so excited.

The baby and the tattoo was adorable, when my daughter was a baby she use to love to slide down my legs and I have a calf tattoo, so I thought it would be funny to cross my legs real quick after she slide down and tell her she rubbed off my tattoo😅, she freaked out trying to look on her butt and everything for it😂😂😂😂😂 she was 2 and is 11 now and it still cracks me up thinking about it!
lmao i love this, now you guys have a funny toddler story to laugh about together as she gets older my mom has one of those with me, the toddler story that makes her crack up laughing every time she tells it to this day (im 20)
I mostly agree with the small tattoo vs big tattoo regarding the pain, but placement really have something to say in this one too. I had a large tattoo done right before getting this small 10-min tattoo done and hooooly shit. The small one was so much worse than the large one, only because of their placements. If I had the same pain for the large one, I would not have been able to sit through it.
If it’s not a too private question to ask, could you maybe tell where the placements where? I’m about to get my first tattoos and of course am terrified of the pain so I want to make the best decisions. Feel free to ignore this question if you don’t like it.
@@sophier1552 Oh not at all! I've only gotten my right arm tattooed, so in my experience the pain really depends on the area on my arm. The large one I got was on my upper arm/shoulder, I would say it was the easiest painwise. The small one I got was on the side of my elbow. But honestly, depending on where and how large your tattoo spans, the pain can easily go from "Oh, this is fine" to "I'm gonna fucking die" in seconds 😂 I have one on my upper arm, above the elbow ditch, and everything was fine until it hit the ditch. But I hope that helps!
hard agree. most of my tattoos are bigger and they were all a breeze. but my tiny little crescent moon on my wrist was SPICY lol. it was my first tattoo too so i was like "oh no do they all hurt this bad?" and every one since has been cake haha.

Spent almost 7 hours in the chair getting the colouring done on my half sleeve. 10000% agree with you about getting bent in all which ways and how it just aches after so long under the gun. I was glad I was wearing a face mask so my artist see when I was gritting my teeth through a painful area.

That last video explains why I'm so hesitant to get tattoos. I've had an apprentice tatoo, I think I was the third one she did on someone and the one teaching her would not let her do "hard" tatoos, so they were more sure there was not going to do a bad one. So at first no colour and no shading, and she progressively made more and more complicated tatoos and honestly she is doing so well, every tatoo is near perfect ! Very happy of mine any way 😁

ACTUALLY, stripper (or pole dancing) poles are very sanitary. Most girls spray & wipe off the pole every single time before their set. They can slip from other girls lotions or oils & no one wants that, plus our friendly Covid & other things. A lot of ppl have really crappy ideas about strippers or pole dancers & its not great to perpetuate the stigmas.
Second skin is meant to be pulled off AGAINST the skin. As in pull it as close to your skin in the same direction it is applied... like taking off a 3m strip. I hope this makes sense!

Just eat before going to your tattoo appointment. To me I was told at least 3 hours prior to the procedure. Enjoy the experience. I'm going back in a few days to get my left side of neck detailing finished and my throat started.
The kinky whip is a riding crop, for ease of finding, and the poles at strip clubs are wiped town with alcohol as they get slippery from oils and such from skin making it hard to stay on via friction, so it may not be hospital clean, it’s cleaner than you’d think. It’s everything else you gotta worry about
it’s meant to denounce the stigma surrounding people with tattoos. they’re stereotyped as being violent criminals so she asked those questions to prove that tattooed people aren’t actually like that
10:15 his line about "this isn't target, we don't have coupons" reminded me of the fact that i was at a local diner recently that had paper placemats with advertisements for local businesses on them, including two coupons for a tattoo and piercing studio!!!! someone asked me when i got my septum pierced why i chose to go to a shop with really good reviews 30 minutes away instead of this place right down the road, and this kind of stuff is why. they were always kind of red-flaggy before, but that was the nail in the coffin for my never going there. i would absolutely not trust a shop that literally prints COUPONS for discount body modifications!!
Hi Lauren, I just wanted to thank you got making this sort of content. I have learned a lot about the tattoo process. I actually just got my first tattoo today for my birthday! It’s a gorgeous black and white botanical piece with my four favorite houseplants that goes from my elbow to my shoulder. It took about five hours straight to finish, and I took it like a champ! Your content helped to prepare me for what to expect and I had a great experience.
When I saw a sketch I didn’t like it, I walked. I went non verbal but the artist understood. I couldn’t communicate cos I was in autistic shutdown I’m glad I didn’t get the design I feel bad for the artist. Obvs they keep the deposit In this case. That’s ok
I have a little ghost dude on my forearm (whom I named Stephano) I got done by an apprentice. It turned out pretty good imo. It could use a touch up, but it's fine. I don't mind getting tattooed by apprentices. My arms are covered in scars, so I'm not gonna bitch about a slightly sub par tattoo.
The number, nice. 👀 All jokes aside, today my winter semester started, and I’m super nervous! I’m taking a fun metalworking/jewelry class, so I’ll be doing fun stuff like welding and forging. 🤘🏻Hopefully won’t burn myself, but knowing me it’ll be inevitable.

I'm afraid the guy with the "taiya" tattoo doesn't have an infected tattoo. It looks like he actually branded himself with a cattle brand. Not sure if hot or freeze branding, but seeing how scorched his skin is, I'm gessing hot, which also must have been incredibly painful. In the video you can see the horizontal line that goes across the letters, which would be the metal bar that holds the design together. And especially the last "A" you can tell they placed it twice, because it's not perfectly aligned. My man does really have to love clout I guess :')

I saw a tiktok about second skin (I don't think you watched it so forgive me if you did lol) comparing it to Command hook strips. You wouldn't just rip a command strip off the wall, it'll take the paint with it, like second skin will take off the scab and ink. You have to pull it down against the wall so it stretches and peels off cleanly. I thought that was the best comparison! Though of course the comments were full of people saying that tattoos shouldn't scab/scar/bruise/lose ink so, I shouldn't be surprised even when very tattooed people know nothing about the tattoo healing process haha.

Pretty sure the one where you didn't understand what was going on and called it an infected tattoo, I think it's in fact scarification. Like he got the letters burned into his arm with hot iron or so
3:55 the best thing to say to anyone in that regard is "I hope you get everything out of life that you deserve." It wishes the best for those that deserve it and anyone who takes it as an insult basically confesses to being a horrible person.

The last one is my worst fear! 😭 I get so paranoid when a tattoo artist doesn't post anything about their personal life or anything that gives away something about their personality on their social media. No matter how amazing their work is, i'm probably going to be to afraid to book an appointment. 😬

@@stellannie86 do you hold the same standard to doctors like would you not get a surgery because the surgeon doesn't show their personality on social media? You're going to have the scar from surgery forever just like a tattoo and you're a walking portfolio of their work. Just don't name the artist or use common sense by separating the art from the artist
@@stellannie86 I see it as hypocritical and something that goes into a weird parasocial relationship aspect. If you can't separate art from the artist because the risk they may be an abuser, does something against your moral code, even does something illegal, etc then you can't and probably shouldn't enjoy anything by living artists as that risk is there.
I got a Terrible tattoo from an apprentice, hated it but never blamed the artist. I only paid 30$ for the work because he was an apprentice. Paid around 3,000 to have it covered.

In two weeks I'm doing the first inking for a huge front piece, from pec to navel, it's going to be my dragon (I'm a huge dragon guy) and it's going to itch soooo bad. Plus my top surgery scar (from 2020, they're fully healed) sometimes itch on their own for no reason. I'll probably look like Tarzan slapping my chest and abs (jk, it's no abs, it's a pudge).
don't forget to moisturize your scars and protect them with sunscreen! [don't moisturize your tattoos as that helps to push the ink out, sunscreen does the job just fine] Just because scars are healed doesn't mean they don't need to be taken care of, moisturizer can help alleviate itchiness, dryness and discomfort, it can also improve the appearance of a scar as well. I know this was something you had to do when you were healing as well, but truthfully there's no reason to stop the habit, especially since they still itch sometimes.

That last tiktok really made me think. I don't have any tattoos yet, but I've thought that maybe when I do I would ask the artist if they would like to sign their work (I haven't seen anyone do it, but I want them to feel like I truly do appreciate them and see their work as a part of them that they are putting onto me), but now I worry that if something like this were to happen, and I found out later, I would probably be even more upset and disgusted by my tattoo.

I got my first tattoo fifteen years ago, on my shoulder blade. They used one of those things that looks like it's for a package of meat. I started getting tattoos again this past December, and the artist was very clear on how to safely remove the SecondSkin. Watching these people YANK it??? OW! Any extra pain you feel from yanking is on you!
That last one resonates with me cuz I had put a deposit down for a neck tattoo with this guy who had recently moved to my area from a different country. Something about him gave me bad vibes but since I know I’m not all knowing and I have a bias against white men I tried to push through it but ultimately cancelled the appointment. He recently started posting shit about “progressivism is a gateway to p3d0ph1l14”, which is an alt right dogwhistle. I’m so glad I cancelled. The queer woman of colour I decided to go with was so lovely and my tattoo is gorgeous. I’m excited for the next session in 2 weeks. I don’t think anyone should have to cover up a tattoo they got from someone who they later found out was awful, but it would have sucked to have such a visible tattoo from someone like that especially since I got bad vibes from him in the first place.

My tattoo artist is pretty fair with his prices, but I always make up the difference in the tip, and bring it up to what I think the tattoo is worth, so he ends up with a really high take home, instead of the percentage with a small tip ( people around here don't tip and our shop minimums aren't that high in the area, most of them are bellow 100 usd)

So, I've always kind of been on and off about getting tattoos... but right after christmas last year, my cat sadly got put down because of health reasons. I am pretty sure I want to do a tattoo in his honour, and I have some ideas, but they're quite a lot and also quite different. I also am unsure about where I would want the placement to be, as I don't know if I want my tattoos to be in spots that are always visible, but at the same time, it would be nice to be able to easily see my own tattoo. Another problem is that I love like lineart tattoos and watercolour tattoos (and mixes of them), plus I would prefer a medium to small tattoo, and I already know the longevity of those are way worse. TvT
@@treacletatts Ohh, thank you! I completely forgot that getting a tattoo on the inside of the bicep was possible. 💀 I mostly thought of either inner underarm or rib cage somewhere (most likely on the side), but I also felt that the underarm might feel too exposed and the rib cage would be hard to look at without a mirror... now that I think about it, the inner bicep does sound like a pretty perfect place. Thank you so much! 💜
@@Jarino507 Yeah, was not planning on having it be very detailed at all. Either a simple lineart of the sillhoutte or a fully black paw print. At least, those are the two options I'm leaning most towards at the moment. Although I do have some other possible ideas, but they're more detailed.
Lauren, I‘m watching your videos for months now and I‘m in loveeee with them & your content! And because of you I got the knowledge I need for getting my first bigger tattoo. I did research on the artist & know how to take care properly and did not listen to my cousins opinion who said the studio I was going to is bad & too expensive (this was coming from a person who got the majority of her tattoos by a friend of hers who isn‘t a tattoo artist at home🫠). During the 4 1/2 hours I sat through the tattoo I talked a lot with the artist and she also knew your channel & loves your content 🫶🏻 Love from Germany!
That first one a lot it was just repeat for me lmao Most went straight to my chest piece. It hurt the most, it always grabs ppls attention cause well it's on my entire upper chest, AND it's a cover up. It's sailor moons broach with red roses. I can still sorta see the old tattoos but they're an after thought now and honestly it's healed my self-esteem greatly.

I wanted to treat myself to tattoos because I’ve had a *rough* few years, (cancer, chemo, surgery, radiation, sudden death, coma, having to learn how to do everything again) and I wanted it to be good and I live in NY so I went to bang bang for a quote…I love spending money but not like that.
I didn't tell a tattoo artist that their design, though cool, wasn't quite what I wanted. I still like it, but as it's on the back of my thigh, I forget I've got it, so it doesn't really bother me.

The outdoor one with script like really.... It's meant to look like that he is showing off it goes from looking like the text is 3d to looking like it's carved into him depending on the angle it's a optical illusions and seriously skillful

Yeah, 100%! And the tattoo artist would probably be glad you asked, seeing as it will affect how your tattoo heals. Also, if you wanted to, you might be able to check yourself beforehand- where I live, the chemist sells opsite flexifix (a particular brand of second skin/saniderm etc) which is what I used on my tattoos. So you might be able to find whatever brand they use near you.
I was kinda scared of taking off that second skin but literllly the day I got the tattoo it started to come off by itself … which like, nice that I didn’t have to suffer but I also panicked cause I didn’t know wtf to do since it should’ve been on for 2 days
12:34 I think that's tattoos over scarification. I personally don't support scarification because there's no way to know how it heals. It's illegal in a lot of places though.

I'm always like "removing my second skin didn't hurt" and then I realize I've always removed it ✨️CORRECTLY✨️ because I listen to Lauren 😇
The first time I got a tattoo (a year ago) I didn't remove it correctly and it was a pain. I'm getting my second tattoo in a week, so I'm curious as to how much of a difference there'll be with the right technique!
My Tattoo artist told me how to do it and it was painless. People are so dumb and at this point are probably just doing it for the video

Just because a person doesn't like your sketch, doesn't mean it's a bad sketch. It's just not to their taste. :)

Thank god the artists noticed and you weren’t stuck with something you hated for the rest of your life.
Sometimes you need to speak up.
Same. But im 38 with a 13 year old and hide my tattoos

That bubba in the video was so cute. And your lil one sounds adorable!!
lmao i love this, now you guys have a funny toddler story to laugh about together as she gets older
my mom has one of those with me, the toddler story that makes her crack up laughing every time she tells it to this day (im 20)

I need to do that too with my artists

It takes hella muscles to do that shit and I think it's cool
Not a big fan of naked people though
Second skin is meant to be pulled off AGAINST the skin. As in pull it as close to your skin in the same direction it is applied... like taking off a 3m strip. I hope this makes sense!

On the 16th of January I'm going to get my first tattoo!! Your content helped me get the courage, thank you!
Ahhhh how exciting 🥳 have a great session!!
It’s everything else you gotta worry about
I’m so confused by that first video!? 😂 why did it suddenly get dark like that and ask about mugging after tattoos!?
it’s meant to denounce the stigma surrounding people with tattoos. they’re stereotyped as being violent criminals so she asked those questions to prove that tattooed people aren’t actually like that
10:15 his line about "this isn't target, we don't have coupons" reminded me of the fact that i was at a local diner recently that had paper placemats with advertisements for local businesses on them, including two coupons for a tattoo and piercing studio!!!! someone asked me when i got my septum pierced why i chose to go to a shop with really good reviews 30 minutes away instead of this place right down the road, and this kind of stuff is why. they were always kind of red-flaggy before, but that was the nail in the coffin for my never going there. i would absolutely not trust a shop that literally prints COUPONS for discount body modifications!!
Right? Right up there with going to another country for cheap plastic surgery. Anything that modifies your body you do not want to go cheap on!
i get like coupons for jewelry, but not the piercing itself!! oh my god
I couldn’t communicate cos I was in autistic shutdown
I’m glad I didn’t get the design
I feel bad for the artist.
All jokes aside, today my winter semester started, and I’m super nervous!

The one at 12:10 I'm almost certain is a brand (like for cattle and such), not a tattoo.

@@ayajade6683 Having someone's ARTWORK on my body is a little bit more personal than a surgery scar.

12:27 is that branding?
if someone put my name looking like that on their arm, i would run.
[don't moisturize your tattoos as that helps to push the ink out, sunscreen does the job just fine]
Just because scars are healed doesn't mean they don't need to be taken care of, moisturizer can help alleviate itchiness, dryness and discomfort, it can also improve the appearance of a scar as well. I know this was something you had to do when you were healing as well, but truthfully there's no reason to stop the habit, especially since they still itch sometimes.
I used a fly swatter for my back piece...it's cheaper than a whip. 😄

I'm currently in hospital and I'm binging this series and it's so good! Also as you said get my food and beverages I got my supper lol
I'm getting my first tattoo tomorow and i'm kind of nervous but also excited about it so wish me luck
I hope it went well and you love your tattoo!!
@@tillydavvers it did, thank you! It didn't even hurt half as badly as i have expected. But then again, i'm used to having my body waxed and this felt very similar so i guess i'm kind of imune to the sensation at this point? It just gave me goosebumps.
The artist was also real nice and not the talkative type either so we both just put our respective music on and went through 3 hours before i even knew

Great video! I’ve been binging your latest! ❤The tattoo artist that did two of mine was a friend of a friend (who did ALoT of his tattoos so I felt it was pretty safe) well he got invited to my friends wedding and got smashed drunk yelling at my fiancé how he tattoos drunk and high all the time no problem! Then proceeds to drunkenly bang on the tattoo shop door in the same plaza (thankfully closed) to let him in so he can tattoo the wedding party! Needless to say I’m never going back to him 😅
Edit for spelling 😖

That last tiktok really made me think. I don't have any tattoos yet, but I've thought that maybe when I do I would ask the artist if they would like to sign their work (I haven't seen anyone do it, but I want them to feel like I truly do appreciate them and see their work as a part of them that they are putting onto me), but now I worry that if something like this were to happen, and I found out later, I would probably be even more upset and disgusted by my tattoo.

@@chirstopherj No thanks mate. Red flags all over your message. Kindly screw off.
I was just asking myself where the next tiktok video was, and here it is

That "Taiya" thing is a branding mark he did himself. He has a video of it on his Instagram.
im 2 months late to the video but i scrolled so long through the comments to finally find someone else talking about that video. at first glance i was also shocked, thinking it was an awfully done and very infected tattoo. as the video replayed and i looked closer, i was like “no way that dude freakin branded himself!”
since you seem to know the source, is there any chance you know/remember why exactly he branded T-A-I-Y-A on himself?
I might be wrong but the 'Taiya' tattoo looks more like a brand or burned design rather than an actual tattoo

TvT
For a placement idea I say inner bicep not that noticble of a placement but easy to show also 😄
@@treacletatts Ohh, thank you! I completely forgot that getting a tattoo on the inside of the bicep was possible. 💀
I mostly thought of either inner underarm or rib cage somewhere (most likely on the side), but I also felt that the underarm might feel too exposed and the rib cage would be hard to look at without a mirror... now that I think about it, the inner bicep does sound like a pretty perfect place. Thank you so much! 💜
You could totally get a medium to small tattoo so long as it's not overly detailed.
During the 4 1/2 hours I sat through the tattoo I talked a lot with the artist and she also knew your channel & loves your content 🫶🏻
Love from Germany!
Watching while eating ice cream under my new giant heated blanket I got for Christmas
Does the ice cream melt faster that way? 😋

Call me fickle but my favorite tattoo is usually my most recent one... 😅 Though too be fair my I've gotten better tattoos the more I've gotten. I got my last tattoo done last friday. It's my first one with color and it is absolutely gorgeous

Big blanket you say? I am wrapped up in my super king size duvet (I do not have a super king size bed).
The one that you said looked infected is a brand. They branded themselves.

The guy at 12:30 I believe branded himself, quite recently aswell.
the seat on the pole for this long probably hurt a thousand times more than the tattoo...
The man showing his arm is most likely a brand. There is a line in the middle from when the letters were attached to each other.

With everyone taking off the second skin the wrong way, I've got to wonder, is the artist not advising them on how to do it or did they just not listen?? 🤔
Love being early! Hope you had a wonderful weekend!
The outdoor one with script like really....
It's meant to look like that he is showing off it goes from looking like the text is 3d to looking like it's carved into him depending on the angle it's a optical illusions and seriously skillful

12:10 looks like he decided to brand himself with the same brand as his cattle.
I have an allergy to some kinds of adhesive would it be ok to ask for a small strip of second skin to test if I have a reaction?

I was kinda scared of taking off that second skin but literllly the day I got the tattoo it started to come off by itself … which like, nice that I didn’t have to suffer but I also panicked cause I didn’t know wtf to do since it should’ve been on for 2 days
my best friend got tattooed underage by a guy who pretended to be a cop to kidnap and beat a sex worker.
12:34 I think that's tattoos over scarification. I personally don't support scarification because there's no way to know how it heals. It's illegal in a lot of places though.
