🐘🌿 When Elephants Walk into Reception! 🏨🐾

  • Get ready for a wild and wacky sight as our tusky friends, the Mfuwe Elephants, make their grand entrance into our lodge's reception! 🐘🎉
Every year, like clockwork, these majestic elephants and their adorable families stroll into Mfuwe Lodge between late October and mid-December. Their mission? To savour the mouthwatering fruits from the giant Wild Mango tree on the lodge grounds. 🍃🍈
But here's the twist: they have a unique shortcut! Instead of going the long way around, they opt for the fancy route, complete with steps and a tiled reception lobby. Why not, right? 😄🚶‍♂️🏨
For generations, one special elephant family has been making this annual visit, captivating us with their unconventional dining habits and charming antics. 🐘📸 Their story has been featured in TV documentaries, photographs, videos, news articles, and even children's books! 📽️📚
Join us in celebrating the wonder of nature and these delightful elephants. And while you're here, let's also talk about something sweet-protecting honey bees and beekeeping! 🍯🐝 Because just like these elephants, bees play a vital role in our ecosystem. 🌍💚
Don't forget to like, share, and subscribe for more incredible encounters with the wild! 📹✨

Good Wonky Tusk, she's a great matriarch and mother, always leading the herd to good grazing and fresh water. She's teaching her baby Wellington aka Wellie to be a proper little elephant! I love this herd, and the lodge that is smart enough to let the elephants through. The elephants are very well-mannered and come through the reception area to get to the wild mango trees on the grounds. This herd has probably been going to those trees for centuries and have adapted to having humans in close proximity without conflict. That's why Wonky is such a great leader/matriarch! Elephants really are amazing creatures! I hope Wonky, Wellie, and the entire herd will continue their peaceful visits forever!💕🐘🐘🐘💕

Chance Kuehnel You are right in your peculiar way. The tourists centre(motel) was built on a super high way of these wild elephants. Locals and most Africans know that elephants don’t change course. They had a hard time building that centre because the workers had to stop for a while whenever the herd of elephants was crossing! These elephants aren’t like their Asian cousins! Nobody crosses them, let alone chaining them and forcing them into servitude. Besides they are wild and will trample on anything/body when agitated! Ignore them and they usually pass in peace unless they are on heat or protecting their infants(calves)!

@@samwarmate9291 I think you misunderstood what they're saying. They're not saying all elephants only exist in South Africa, they're saying this particular elephant used to live in South Africa. The elephant called Wonky Tusk in this video has been spotted on several livestreams from Sabi Sands game reserve (in SA) where she is called "Fang." So they're saying they thought she lived in South Africa and were unaware/surprised she traveled all the way to Zambia.

Well, the lodge did build their buildings around the fruit trees the Ellies have looked forward to every year for countless generations! I read that the Ellies with their timeless memories feel compelled to walk ancestral migration routes leading them to their much-needed food sources at the right time of year.
And fruits are precious with their nutrients, calories, hydration and easy digestibility. Elephants, obviously, require a lot of food, and most of the time it comes in the form of nutrient-poor, hard-to-digest, grass, leaves, twigs, bark, etc. So the mangoes are manna from heaven for the Ellies, so much so that, when the lodge was built, they took the risk of going through to the courtyard with the trees, gambling these humans were safe. Thank goodness they were! And now a relationship of trust has developed spanning generations. This is wonderful because in so many other cases where humans have built around and blocked an ellie ancestral migration route, it has ended in gunshot, spear and arrow wounds, and accidents with vehicles and wells, or in elephant populations being cut off from the water, food and fellow Ellies they need to survive.
So I'm so happy this is a heartwarming story where humans and wildlife have found a way not only to cohabit peacefully but also benefit each other. The Ellies get their annual windfall of wild mangoes and a safe place to sleep (the scene of them all napping together was very sweet: in the wild lying down makes them vulnerable to predators so they normally doze standing up.) The humans get some wonderful ecotourism as well as an awesome experience!

Who is the group who performs the theme for this and some other videos? I love it, and would like to find more of their music. I also love Wonky and Wellie and the whole story of their visits to Mfuwe. I would love to experience them, but I suspect the music will be as close as I will ever get. :-(

This music made me want to dance. I was half expecting the elephants to sway and swing to the music.
