Although this is less polished and a bit pitchy compared to the other recordings of this song on youtube, I always find myself coming back to this one specifically. I just love the little embellishes sprinkled throughout the song; these girls really did a phenomenal job.
I remember being little and idolizing them because of this song! they got me singing in the first place. I used to go to my moms chorus practices just to see them. Everyone always asked them to sing. I love and miss them.
@sampaiomarcia1 - thank you! These girls are from the San Francisco Bay Area in California and yes, they were only 14 when this video was done. They have since changed their name to LoveNotes quartet.
I was in a few acapella groups in high school, and these women were always my idols re: melodic sound, arrangement, and tone. Since then I generally haven't enjoyed listening to acapella music or singing in a group, but these songs always give me actual goosebumps. I know this video is old, but it inspires me to start seriously singing again.
Being a huge phantom of the opera fan, and one who enjoys to sing it as well, I really appreciated the harmony and the strength in which you all sang this. I was very impressed.
dejavuchick, they actually aren't out of tune at the the minute mark. It's the bridge. They are changing keys so the notes sound out of place when they are heard out of context. I'm sorry if I sound like I'm being a pushy teacher. Just clarifying. Anyways, Great job!
WOW that first girl is amazing and the 4th girl has a really deep voice and the other two are in between WOW IS ALL I GOT TO SAY!!!!!!!!!!!! GREAT JOB GIRLS!!!!!!!!!!!
@nichris5566 Sorry, no -- in Barbershop singing, we call the parts, from high to low, Tenor, Lead, Baritone, Bass. We use men's barbershop terms. I am a Lead in a small Sweet Adelines chorus. This quartet, with a new member, is now called LoveNotes and they will be among several quartets representing Region 12 (N. Cal. & Nevada) in the International Competition in Seattle this October. Good luck LoveNotes!
This was awesome i hope you ladies always continue singing im a big fan of yours my fav is and so it goes. if i could make a request i would love to hear hey jude :) Thomas PP
I also sing women's barbershop. I'm in a chorus and a quartet and another chorus wants me to join them. It's tenor, lead, baritone, bass. I sing lead. But I was a bass for a little while. My chorus director actually knows these girls.
I think it's a personal thing really, if hand movements are what you feel, that's what you do. Whenever I play any instrument, be it sax, piano, trumpet, guitar, whatever, I move with the music, just as a byproduct of the feeling I put in.
From Left to Right here are there roles - Soprano, Alto, Tenor, Bass. By height and size, are how you can reconize which one has which role. Not saying a hefty girl can't be the soprano! But in this case, size happens to be a key component.
How strange....I did not remove your comment. I do not know how that occurred. I'm sorry you find this arrangement so distasteful. Please look at the updated version of Phantom Of The Opera listed under LoveNotes Quartet......and let me know if you find it equally objectionable.
I must say i agree with you. I looove Phantom, and I hate that it's been made into a performance quartet spectacle thing, the whole mood and the feeling of the songs are just totally changed. (The rest of your comment is probably a bit harsh... but I totally agree with the last bit of your comment) They are all amaaaazzinggg singers!!! Just the actual medly i didn't like so much...
That's just part of their performance. Barbershop singers aren't supposed to stand still. When being judged in competitions, animated bodies is actually encouraged. I competed in my regional competition for my Sweet Adelines Chorus and we were moving all over the place.
Tenor.... Amazing.... I LOVE the baritone though. She has a beautiful voice and the tone of her voice is sooo good... The Bass has bad posture. But they sound so good.
I think they're from left 1st soprano, 2nd soprano (lead), mezzosoprano (or 1st alto) and alto (or 2nd alto)... it's the same as it's for men (1st tenor, 2nd tenor/lead, baritone and bass) but you can't use the same term for women as for men... the categorization of women voices are soprano, mezzosoprano and alto, for men voices is used tenor, baritone and bass
okay, seriously. bbsbari has it right. its tenor baritone lead and bass. women and men often sing TOGETHER in quartets, so they made it unisex for ALL quartets. if you want to argue, go ahead, but i'm afraid you are QUITE wrong.

The ending was a killer ... I watched this in the morning and the last note must have woken everybody in the house :D

I absolutely LOVE how this all came together! WOW!
Being a huge phantom of the opera fan, and one who enjoys to sing it as well, I really appreciated the harmony and the strength in which you all sang this. I was very impressed.
They all have amazingly mature voices for 14-year-olds. Wow!

@luvharmony4 wow only 14! absolutly top notch amazing!
Brilliant.
they did a great job of this. .The two taller girls seemed to be Tenors. the other two semmed to be an Alto and a Soprano. correct me if I'm wrong.
These girls make me happy to call myself a Barbershopper... That and the Baritone (second from the right) is a cutie!!!
Awesome :>
Goosebumps.

difficult piece. well done.
chills!!
The one on the far right. What was she singing before "The Phantom of the Opera." It began at around 1:13.
How strange....I did not remove your comment. I do not know how that occurred. I'm sorry you find this arrangement so distasteful. Please look at the updated version of Phantom Of The Opera listed under LoveNotes Quartet......and let me know if you find it equally objectionable.
wow!
I agree, that's a VERY high pitch at the end!

Pretty neat arrangement, although I found the soprano a bit shrill... I did enjoy it, though.
I've listened to this several times in a row. It gets more amazing each time. Yikes!
i couldn't understand what the forth lady sings after 1:10. could somebody gimme a hand? it's some part they added up to the original lyrics?
