  • Pikliz: Haitian Spicy Coleslaw Recipe | Easy Haitian Condiment for Grilled Meats and Sandwiches
Pikliz, also known as Haitian spicy coleslaw, is a popular condiment in Haitian cuisine. The recipe consists of thinly sliced cabbage, carrots, and onion that is pickled in a spicy vinegar mixture, giving it a tangy and spicy flavor.
To make pikliz, the first step is to finely slice the cabbage, carrots, and onion. The vegetables are then mixed together in a large bowl and seasoned with salt and pepper.
Next, a mixture of vinegar, water, garlic, scotch bonnet peppers, and other spices such as thyme and cloves are boiled together on the stove. Once the mixture has cooled down, it is poured over the vegetables and stirred well to ensure that all the vegetables are coated in the spicy vinegar.
The pikliz is then transferred to a jar or other airtight container and left to marinate in the fridge for at least a day or two, allowing the flavors to meld together and the vegetables to become pickled.
Pikliz is a versatile condiment that can be served with many different dishes, such as fried plantains, rice and beans, or grilled meats. It is also a popular addition to Haitian sandwiches, known as "tassot" or "griot".
This Haitian spicy coleslaw is a delicious and easy-to-make condiment that adds a burst of flavor to any meal. Its unique blend of tangy and spicy flavors makes it a favorite among Haitians and anyone who loves bold and flavorful condiments.
