    I have mine for 1.5 year now and it's awesome car, the package of luxury/driving pleasure/practicality/range makes it more on par with Etron Sportback and Taycan than with Eniaq or EQA. Tried the Mustang Mach E AWD and Kia EV6 AWD and none of these come close in terms of driving dynamics.

      I'm about to hit 3 years on my I-Pace and it remains a joy to drive every time I get in it. I think the finishes are quite nice on the HSE trim and the interior cockpit still seems quite roomy given that the car does not feel like an SUV to me (seems more like a large, boxy but very quick GT than an SUV). I wasn't really a Jaguar person before and still am not that into the brand as some kind of "fan", but people do seem to respond to it.

    Good review. In Sweden this is a really expensive EV if you want the bells and whistles. Still I really like the design and could see myself in an iPace. Must say the comparison to the EQA is a bit strange. EQC is more like the iPace sizewise but is still lower in price. Personally I don't think the ID4 and Enyaq are in the same class as these 2. Neither is the Q4 if I understand several testers correct.

  • @markgeller5900
    @markgeller5900 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Still a compelling LUXURY EV. Sure, you can go buy something with either more mileage and cheaper, or more mileage and uglier. However, not better looking unless it's a 135,000 pound Porsche Sport Cross Tourismo in the luxe group, and the mileage is comparable. Still want an I-Pace!!

    Yes, it is expensive, but it is beautiful. For the same reason that you should marry an attractive spouse, when you walk out to the garage every day it’s better to see something that is easy on the eyes versus something that is not. Unlike a Tesla, it looks like a car rather than a suppository and you won’t hear people say “well, it’s not THAT ugly” as they do about Teslas or other cars that have awkward proportions or forgot to include a grill. And you won’t have the Police pulling you over for defacing public property every time you put it on the road like you do in an I3 or a Kona or some eTrons.

    The biggest problem with the previous generation I-Pace was the efficiency and therefore the range as it often struggled to do more than 300km/190 miles real range (I have a friend who ran out of battery on a 311 km road trip with the I-Pace )
    I-Pace's range is kind of ridiculous when you compare it with something like a Kia eNiro : I-Pace has about 50% larger battery than the Kia Niro but the Kia manages to do 50% more range (450 km real range) than the I-Pace.

    • @TotallyEV
      @TotallyEV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed, its newest rivals are more efficient, as mentioned in the video.

    • @wigiiinvestors3459

      The range of the I-Pace is overstated for sure. In cold northern USA weather, you will be lucky to get 160 miles of highway driving. In warmer periods, MAYBE you can get 180 miles of range while driving 70-75 mph. Because of its awful charging speed (only 100 kw max), it will take you 1.25 hrs of charging for every 2.5 hrs of highway driving. This is a fact. I own one.

    I live in the US so the alternatives are slightly different (we dont have the Skoda or BMW ix3 for example), but even in 2023 I still want an I-pace over any others. The problem is that JLR barely imports any here, so they are pretty much unobtainable and a used 2022 costs more than the original MSRP! Nothing else seems to combine the same level of looks, driving experience, and interior comfort/practicality/price. For example, an etron is more comfortable and has more room but it kind of drives like a boat and is much bigger exterior wise. The Taycan drives even better but its very expensive and very cramped inside given how big it is. All the other cars you mentioned are a big step down in terms of looks, drving experience and interior comfort/quality. Stuff like the ID4, Kia Niro, etc are several classes below and are way less appealing. I mean sure- if all you care about is having a cheap EV go for it. But its kind of like saying you could buy a Toyota Corolla for less than a Lexus LS or something. Or a Golf is cheaper than a Panamera. Sure..but kind of misses the point.
    I do agree that some of the optional stuff should be standard but that seems to be the way of all premium manufacturers; stuff that's standard in much cheaper cars costs $$$ in more expensive ones. Check out any Porsche configurator if you want to see an extreme example of this. As of 2022, Jaguar only sold the HSE trim level here and it came standard with pretty much everything (with a few odd omissions like wireless phone charging).

    • @TotallyEV
      @TotallyEV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Not quite, the comparison is very fair, especially when you consider EV range - more to the point, a premium vehicle should get better range etc, but alas it (and others like the e-tron) don't.
      And of course, Porsche is no better in terms of options, and it's something we equally critique.
      As mentioned in the review, there's a place/market for the I-Pace, just depends on your criteria and budget. Looks like Jaguar's offering really appeals to you!

    • @richardh3587
      @richardh3587 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TotallyEV Not sure I agree that a premium/more expensive vehicle should necessarily get better range. There are plenty of examples of ICE cars where a more expensive car has less range and efficiency (in some cases less than 200 miles of range!). Think about a BMW M3 vs a 330d for example. Or a Prius compared to a V8 Panamera. On a related note, it's also kind of like saying that a premium car should always have more cargo interior room than a less premium one. Of course that's not the case. I think that if range is really a big deal for your daily driving, you probably shouldn't buy an EV at all yet. For most of us anything with 200 miles or more range is enough to get us through 95% of our driving situations. Plus, real world and tested ranges vary so much on individual circumstances. And certain manufacturers tend to be more optimistic than others (Does a Tesla Model 3 really have more range than a base Taycan in the real world? Even if it does would you really rather drive the Tesla? Maybe, maybe not). If you are really stuck deciding between 2 EVs, then sure maybe efficiency or range could a deciding factor. But I think once you get to this price point you are going to choose a car primarily for the way it looks drives and feels, not just because one has "better range".
      I've just noticed that many journalists tend to harp on range as such a big deal and, when you think about it, it's not really that important for most people. I think it leads, in some cases, to buying a worse car just to get better supposed range or overbuying based on your needs (paying more and lugging around more battery weight). Unfortunatley, here in the US that mentality applies to cars/SUVs in general. We'll buy a Chevy Suburban because we might need to haul lumber + 7 passengers while driving on the beach at some point. Anyway, just something to think about. I really enjoy your reviews which is why I'm taking the time to write this feedback.

      @@Wasabi9111 that's a good question. Honestly, the I-Pace is a fantastic all-rounder, just too expensive. If it were say £50-60k it would be an easy recommendation. Like any vehicle, there are always newer models, the thing with EVs is that they can 'easily' be upgraded by manufacturers. Be it in terms of range/efficiency (due to better battery tech and/or software updates that squeeze out performance; like was the case with the I-Pace actually!), or in terms of tech, which yet again the I-Pace got a refresh in this department.

    I agree with you 1000%!! Jaguar isn't keeping up with the car industry. I noticed that you didn't say the Kia EV6 (or I missed it in the end) which takes its front and rear spoiler design cues from the Ipace. Nevertheless the EV6 reliability is the lesser of the 2 cars and that's not saying much for JLR build quality also long term ownership. I'll be waiting on my VW ID.4 in hopes that Ipace will catch up but it's over priced here in the U.S. too $78-89k is too much for lack of range & charging time plus extra for a usual standard feature wireless charging pad is ridiculous.
