Unpopular Opinions ... 1) Goldfish are a better option for most small-to-medium ponds.
2) Shubunkin Goldfish are just a pretty as Koi.
3) Very few fish keepers can tell the difference between expensive "premium" or "show quality" koi and inexpensive koi.
Isnt this the first time you cleaned this pond? I forgot how deep it is. On Ed the pond professor's channel someone asked if they were still gonna do the infinty edge and hes said you guys are still on the schedule. Thats going to look so good!

It is hard to keep up with the counting as I did not show all the counting . It got repetitive

Cool video. Hopefully aquascape team is comin this year to upgrade the filter and add Infinity pond. Great see paddlefish are doin well. Would be cool see them spawn. And put babies in a tank we can view them from all angles.
I'm sorry I think I seen my favorite koi of all and that was that black and orange one where had big orange splotches with perfect connecting black stripes around it oh he was beautiful

It's not micro managing, it's running the show. It's the Bigg Boss at the job. There has to be a boss. I am that man. This is my house. It will be done the way I say period deal with it. Someone's gotta be in charge and here it's again not micro managing. Josh is helping me.

There IS a plan to put on a whole nother wetlands filter with an infinity edge.
The boys built the pond Bigger than Ed's calculations just cuz they Could. Because they had the liner for it. So they just went ahead and did it. Now we see why Ed's calculations reallly matter ❤

I would guess the sorting of the koi in the back pond at the rear of the property, would be absolutely nightmare if you chose to do it adding the best to Tracy's pond and moving on the rest of them, once medicated? We did it last season. Pulled out 180 koi. Added 5 to our pond and sold the rest

You ever thought about putting white rocks at the bottom so you can see the fish when they are down deep?
The rocks will get covered in algae being as it’s an outdoor pond
You should put some sunfish or bluegill so the paddlefish can eat some meat do they eat meat to or no?

He's doing fine bleeding was from his gills for some reason. Too much going on . Too little time. Couldn't get them all in a sock net
Totally makes sense. That was a massive transfer, and he was the only guy with a boo-boo. That’s pretty f*ckin impressive. Glad he’s ok.

Everybody has an opinion i know but i personally think long fin koi look trashy. I'm not a fan of long fins on anything from zebras to koi.

Isnt gravel on the bottom a bad idea? It traps muck and the water current cannot sweep the bottom into the filter

Are there no good options for the algae? I assume plecos can't handle the cold winters but what about carp?
Koi ARE carp though. They certainly eat the algae.
So do the paddlers eat what is in the water column.

What a nightmare of a job, wow, can you put a bunch of algea eating fish in there? Hope you can get more filtration in there so that will prevent you having to do this so often

No, they dug it straight from the dirt, but you can get in and swim in it :)

Just curious, could you guy's take the time thats its empty to dig out a deeper spot in the middle?
I only ask because there have been winters here in Toledo when the Maumee river froze and its alot deeper than the pond. 👍👍
Only the top portion of the pond will freeze. Frost line is 30" in ohio. Typically only freezes top 10" .... will never freeze solid. 5ft at deepest part. Also not able to dig it deeper

@big rich there is a butterfly in the left pond
It was shown (by a California koi guru type on an importer channel) that koi bleed from their gills when they get distressed. It's not the same as a cut exactly but it is still bleeding. This one was the worst case I've ever seen.
I don't understand what the upside of this kind of pond system is supposed to be. Many of their flashy sales collaboration sessions on YT that I'm aware of seem to end with the other channel having major issues with keeping their ponds clean afterwards. It looks like a closed loop system with no convenient way to get rid of all the old fish poop except by this kind of severe disruption of the entire pond.

The wetlands type filter with enough jets and pumps DOES work great for what you said!
Its just that Rich and Josh circumvented Ed's plan. So we can't blame the system or the people who designed it!

@@brockn7878 Been watching their spiel for years. I also know about the history of these OFR installs. As I said, I also saw numerous other TH-camrs get ponds designed and built via collabs then get them grossly clogged with filth. Some of them have even scrapped theirs a year or so after the YT Amway-style celeb party collab session.
That second wetlands filter at OFR was spoken of since this pond was still being made. The promised second-coming with better landscaping and infinity edge etc has been imminent for like three years now.
To be fair, I watched a rich guy (law student - now lawyer) in South Asia build two huge home ponds with under-gravel filtration which wasn't this brand exactly but a similar principle. He knew going in that he'd need to do this but he had a staff to do his grunt work and spoke openly about all that. A literal truckload of eager barefoot workers would come and do all the heavy lifting and have blue plastic tanks and oxygen tanks with aerators. IF money is no object then everything makes perfect sense. Just pay somebody to do it and carry on. Not a realistic option here.
