Hell yeah, man! Used to eat bunch of exactly same rations couple months ago as my food at construction site i worked at. It costs me 320 rubles (about 5USD) for each directly from Rus army distributor. Not best considering i was unable to use any heating, but still it was best choise for place distant from any electric and water support for full all day meals
That's really interesting. I did not know that there were any new major construction projects in rural Siberia. Was your work related to the Power of Siberia pipeline?
Tiles Murphy, Siberia has Novosibirsk, 3d size city of Russia. I was building like 32 social living buildings aside of city. Can see city from site, bit too distant to go during working day.
Great review, and great looking items !! You did well as always, making suggestions, explaining about the foil pouches, tins, etc. I had forgotten about the can of cheese, incident, until you reminded us about it, LOL. Great job at mixing, matching, different flavors and textures. Gundog it up !! Again, all items looked tasty. Keep up he fine work sir, Peace, John.
I realize the latest post is 2 years old, but, I am currently using this exact menu as a taste test. I like using mres for backpacking. The high altitude version lasted me 3 days. This one is unique with the fat. Where I came from it would be used to cook something. As of now I find a fascination with the Russian mres. My Italian and French haven't shown up quite yet.
Great work as always man. I've dated a Russian girl and from how sweet she liked her tea I wouldn't be at all surprised if that entire 20g of sugar is meant for one drink. As in one for each tea and one for the coffee
That's great! I love when I can help someone become a culinary explorer. Always have some extra spices and herbs around to really rock it and you can make cheap army food gourmet. Subbed you and look forward to your review. Cheers!
I found that the simplest way to pull the tabs on those things is to pull as flat and as close to the body of the item as possible. Kinda like trying to peel some tape without making that loud sound. Works even on the store bought foil tops like yogurt or cream cheese (which is thinner).
I think that the color of the apple sauce is from oxidization. Which tells you it's real apple not some goop with apple taste like most baby equivalent ones are... My nana (grandma) used to make apple sauce and it would turn the same after a while.
Late to the party but 'Salo' is basically cured pork fat, it's commonly used basically like butter. Definitely an acquired test. Even the ones where it's rubbed in garlic etc and cured are still effectively like biting into pure lard. To get an idea of this experience, basically spread crisco on bread at home and tell me it's not frigging weird!
Ha! I actually originally saw Salo thanks to Bizarre foods, and back when that was airing, there was actually a russian import store/deli, so I actually tried it. It was..unique.
The different expiry dates (outside of MRE) vs. inside contents isn't all that weird. The first aid kits on the airplane had an expiry date on them. It was the expiry date of the thing inside that was going to expire first. Inside the kit was an itemized list of the contents and their individual expiry dates. Once the kit was expired (actually just before it expired) it was pulled out and replaced. Then the kit was opened up and the expired stuff replaced along with an updated list of contents/expiry dates. The kit was then returned to service... with the witness wire in place. Pre-flight check... kit in date and witness wire intact... check!
Excellent. I just ordered one of these (I hope it was a menu no.2) from a .com source that sells Foreign MRE's. I have been wanting one that has the Buckwheat and the Salo (pork back fat). Salo is typically had thin sliced on Rye bread. Too bad they don't have Rye biscuits in the pack. Plus, that IS a lot of back fat for a single sitting!! Buckwheat is very common in Europe, kinda like Oats are here. And buckwheat is super healthy.
I was very curious about having buckwheat and beef for breakfast.....It really has grown on me to the point I've tried several recipes and have even reached out to Russian viewers for tips/tricks. My favorite buckwheat recipe to date was a vegetable stir fry.....mouthwatering delicious!
Nice review - it can be seen that you really liked it. I like the idea of opening and tasting the whole 24h ration at once. I will do this with my next review. Pity that you cannot eat it , but it can stay in the fride fo some time
I have been enjoying these for over a year now partially thanks to you and a few others who introduced me to the Russia irp. I believe what you have here is the officers irp? lots of extras and more than enough calories for a single day. I have had the enlisted and officers types of a few different manufacturers. I mostly have had the resealable enlisted types and currently they come with one drink mix, two teas and a coffee. 3 sugars, no creamer. 3 mains simular to what you have here. 3 sides as cheese, patte and veggie/eggplant puree. 4 crackers, fruit bar, salt pepper, usually a vitamin, 3 napkins and spoons (no knife) 4-6 purification tabs. 1 apple spread or jam of some sort. I have see now they make single meal irps now for about 20$ each. I still prefer the I day three meal irp if I can get them. more food for the money.I have heard these are becoming more commercial and they sort are.still pretty close to the early types I have had.
I know from 95% of the Russian soldiers & Vets I've talked to they say these are more of a novelty than a ration as the get nearly 100% of their chow from field kitchens and not very much from that. I really enjoy them as it gives me insight into some of the basics of the local cuisine. I can't wait to visit there someday and try the real fresh legit stuff in person!
I know this is an old review but these Russian rations have really peaked my interest and taste buds, I am curious how does that liver pate compare to like liverwurst here in the states, it looks similar, and where and how much, if you know, would a 24 hour Russian ration cost? I'm currently in a Long term care facility due to some health issues and as you can imagine the food here would make a 20 year old MRE taste like a 5 star meal in a fancy resturaunt and I would love to keep stuff like this handy, would just have to figure a way to heat it since I don't think they would let me use the fuel tabs here in my room....lol. Anyway great review gundog4314 you and steve are my fav reviewers and have learned so much from both of you. Keep up the good work brother.
I'd say you could get one for about 50 bucks but now with the USDA/FDA/CBP crackdown its probably safer to find some recipes and make your own stuff. Liver in all its forms as nasty to me but each has likes and dislikes. Cheers
I can get one for about 400 rubles/6ish USD locally, but the postage is a whole nother deal, would probably cost 2-3 times that, seeing that MRE is about 2 kilos/4lbs iirc.
I just got this menu. Im looking forward to trying some salo with some mustard. I heard that its Ukraines nation dish. Nice review sir. Everything looks delishious.
Man O man - Russian rations seem to outclass typical US MRE’s from the reviews I’ve seen. However, the foil packed mains and sides make me wonder how they hold up to rough handling. I appreciate your explanations of how ration may be used throughout the day... great detailed info. Thanks.

There are Russians that do add jam into their tea, so in a way the package didn't lie to anyone about how it could be used. Emmy just forgot to add tea into it. lol
You might want to put the apple butter in tea. I used to live with my grandparents who were very Russian. There's a marmalade made to be put into tea to sweeten it up. What they used was made out of lemon but we live in the USA so maybe trends have changed in Russia.
Gundog, how do you boil the tins? Just straight in the water? And for how long? Thanks! I got one of the slightly smaller rations off eBay and ate almost everything at like 3am lol. I heated up the rice kasha w/ beef tin in the oven for like ten minutes and ate it for breakfast. It toasted around the edges real nice and it's right on par with corned beef hash in my opinion.
Depending on the whether the flexible can has a sticker or info is printed on the foil I fill a pot/pan just under the top for the sticker type to keep it from peeling off and disintegrating in the boiling water. For the printed foil just till it's all under water. I'll keep it in a rolling boil for about 5 or 6 minutes and viola'!
I immediately threw away the veggie ragu. Admittedly, I can't stand bell peppers, but still. It had no taste. My least favorite part of this ration. Thanks for the review, sir! :D
Just because I was watching this one when the question popped in my head ... have you ever heated up the cheese in the cans? Does it melt smooth? I realise this video is older but it just happened to be the one I was watching. Thanks in advance!
I have, and unless your an idiot like me crack open the lid, because I failed to do so and I still have some oily cheese stains on my ceiling to this day! But when you do heat it properly it tends to break down and separate the oils from the solids kind of like mac and cheese if you bake it in the oven. Cheers
It's supposed to be eaten cold, it's a soviet-type hard-ish "плавленый сыр", you just use it like a hard pate on bread or crackers. Modern "melted cheeses" are way more pliable, so it's easier to spread them. We have multiple types of processed cheese, there is "kolbasniy" (kolbasa-type) processed cheese, which is in a shape of a nice thick salami stick and is smoked, there is soviet-type processed cheese in 100-ish grams foil packs, really great to make a cheap and delicious "Jewish salad", there is cheese-like sweet desert called "Omichka" ("Girl from Omsk") which is a classic form my childhood, because I was born in the city of Omsk and later moved to the capital.
I'd recommend starting with something in your palate comfort zone. May need a little bit a seasoning and spices from your pantry but it all can be very tasty and fun to share with friends. Cheers!
hey I always see your videos and I always wondered what do you do with so many leftovers? do you refrigerate them to eat later? Also, do you eat any other thing other than rations? just curious.. Have a nice day!!
My Faves for 24 hr rations are Russian French and Italian. Thanks for the Review Now for the important Question..... When did Emmy drink the Apple sauce ? 😺 😸 Link please 😺 😸
You were talking up the coffee so much I typed Russian instant coffee into Amazon. I noticed that the only thing that came up that even remotely looked like it was russian was a chicory coffee. I wonder if that's not why this one is so much better than most perhaps it's partly or all chicory.
Buckwheat os The Worst to eat if you unable to pre heat any of those. coz it all turns into paper taste brick. And fat is bad to eat if you have nothing warm with it. But once youcheated buckweat, it changes everything. and fat goes well with it then
That's the beauty of it you can use it however you want I guess as long as you don't light the woods on fire. The way I demonstrated is the way shown on instructional manuals and such But I've even used it with the points down for stability reasons. Cheers
Energy, mostly. If the heaviest thing you ever lift is a laptop you can get by with 1500 calories a day. At the field especially in cold climate with a gear that is half your weight you need 4-4,500 calories a day, and sugar has a lot. Hence the lot of sugar, meat and fat. I hope the answer is not 11 months too late. :) And as John Travolta said in Michael: You can never have too much sugar! :D
I am pushing some strings with people in the army if i find one or two i will send them to you and stevemreinfo but is pretty hard to find rations in greece !! Thanks for replying (excuse me for my bad english) greetings from greece!
i received this ratio today myself and as i eagerly opened it i was greeted by the most foul of stenches, unfortunately one of my mains containers became compromised and leaked all over the inner box and onto some of the other contents, my excitement has turned to worry as a few of the paper sachets have the stench attached to them so i hope the beverages arent ruined! I WILL UPDATE!
That's the problem with EVERY countries rations. Be nice if we all rotated them around like I get to do with these reviews, keeps my morale up to do more!
I've just done these and have asked a ton of questions about them that I just know what things are now. If these freakin politicians don't screw things up I'd love to go there someday and learn more. Hopefully soon. Cheers!
I am so anxious to try mine when it gets here, hopefully customs will not rape it too badly. Not sure what menu I am getting but if I get the same one I will be doing some mix and matching. I will fry the bacon fat and add it to the Kasha. I will have the meatballs with some mashed potatoes.
I have really enjoyed them over the years. I hope you do too. Google translate does a semi-pretty decent job of letting you know what is what too. Of course, you can always use YT for the skinny too. Cheers Kahlest!
No no...you should have way more views...on you're video's. ...and way more subbies....that.s why I shared you on my Facebook. ..you can see you're shared video at...Samsung Sally chadwick. ... peeeeeace ")
rAdiant Jet yea I think russia perfected the ration pack I wish we would do the same I'd probably buy them. I always took my own food to the field in the army i.e. civilian type, mountain house...Freeze dried fruit etc.
You should have way more subscribers hi from the UK. ..and it.s 10 thumbs up from me ,,,,!!,,,, ,,,,!!,,,, ,,,,!!,,,, ,,,,!!,,,, ,,,,!!,,,, Lin-Lee ♡♡ing you're channel
Just think of all the tossing and throwing around it went through being manufactured, assembled, palleted, boxed and shipped all the way from Russia just I I could drop them 3 inches. That should enough to keep you awake at night LOL! Cheers SJ
Yeah, I know. It's a psychological thing with me. Here you get all the things in that ration you've been wanting and you toss things all over. I know you can't damage them any more than they've already been damaged.
That is true but mainly to cool them or get them out of the body and cool them before the can start to deteriorate and spoil the meat. Which is why if you ever watch a hunting show they "dress" the deer or whatever right there or real soon after. Cheers
People eat it every single time they have nice steak, pork chop or bacon. I admit the one in this ration is a bit hardcore even for myself but when in Rome, Do as the Romans do. Cheers!
gundog4314 а можно с вами где-то пообщаться в Facebook или Skype, очень интересно узнать про США от Американца, вы не представляете как я люблю вашу страну!! :)

gydyaka Where were you working? Must be in the East, I presume?
Tiles Murphy, i am at Siberia - heart of Russia.
Nice to know. I assume that you bought your IRPs in bulk in Novosibirsk and spent your days on site?
Another gem of a review. Always find the overseas rations really interesting to watch reviewed. Thanks Gundog!!
glad you are back these rations are great use them for camping and prepping activities
Great review, and great looking items !! Love this!!! Really want one of these rations!!!!

Crombat Rations did dump the whole thing of sugar into his milk coffee I was like "Nooooo"
Laura Millard yeah it's probably how it's meant to be done. Most Russians I've known have had quite the sweet tooth
I usually drink mine black so that much sugar looks just horrible to me.
Great video, GD! The IRPs are one of my favorite rations.
Thanks for clarifying how this is eaten - always wondered about that.
Great review.
Good incitement for the pelmeni with adjika tommorw.
Gotta say, that is a pretty nice spread of food for the day. Another great review as always.
Great video man. I ordered one of these because of you. This is seriously tasty stuff.
That's great! I love when I can help someone become a culinary explorer. Always have some extra spices and herbs around to really rock it and you can make cheap army food gourmet. Subbed you and look forward to your review. Cheers!
I can't even eat half of these things due to allergies but Gun Dog, you make me happy to watch food I can't eat!
I found that the simplest way to pull the tabs on those things is to pull as flat and as close to the body of the item as possible. Kinda like trying to peel some tape without making that loud sound.
Works even on the store bought foil tops like yogurt or cream cheese (which is thinner).

Great review mate. That kasher seems to be a winner in the Russian MRE. Also that apple butter seems like it could be used as a form of currency. LOL
That kasha.

I'm a pro at this stuff now, well at least an informed amateur HAHA!
Ha! I actually originally saw Salo thanks to Bizarre foods, and back when that was airing, there was actually a russian import store/deli, so I actually tried it. It was..unique.
Salo is also eaten after having a hearty shot of vodka😂
gundog youre the man. i just got a case of mres in the other day.
Happy eating!

i'd be tempted to heat that cheese..great video
Wow so much real food in this one! Looks leaps and bounds more appealing then the US MRE where its mostly snacks and cakes
Excellent. I just ordered one of these (I hope it was a menu no.2) from a .com source that sells Foreign MRE's. I have been wanting one that has the Buckwheat and the Salo (pork back fat). Watching American review on Russian MRE from Russia. Thank you, globalisation.
Those who have had these rations, thank YOU. Most European rations are better than American rations, but the Russians are AWESOME. thanks.
Russian rations have really picked up since the old days
Nice review - it can be seen that you really liked it. I like the idea of opening and tasting the whole 24h ration at once. I will do this with my next review. Pity that you cannot eat it , but it can stay in the fride fo some time
It was every bit as good as leftovers as when I sampled it for the review. You should have your box in a week or so! Cheers
That is one heck of a ration. I would happily eat all of it.
Man O man - Russian rations
seem to outclass typical
US MRE’s from the reviews
I’ve seen. However, the foil
packed mains and sides
make me wonder how they
hold up to rough handling.
I appreciate your explanations
of how ration may be used
throughout the day... great
detailed info. Thanks.
The only big issue is how long these last, or don't last. I like the fact it isn't full of additives and preservatives to keep it stable but in doing that they just don't last beyond a year or two before going rancid.
Kinda surprised there's no vodka sample. That vegi ragu looks like a pepper dip we get here in Australia. It's delicious.
I think I know why Emmy thought it was apple cider. The front of the pouch has picture that looks like steam coming out of a cup.
There are Russians that do add jam into their tea, so in a way the package didn't lie to anyone about how it could be used. Emmy just forgot to add tea into it. lol
Nice review
How dare you! the Cheese is the best part! :D
You might want to put the apple butter in tea. I used to live with my grandparents who were very Russian. There's a marmalade made to be put into tea to sweeten it up. What they used was made out of lemon but we live in the USA so maybe trends have changed in Russia.
I did try it when I watched Emmy do it seeing as she said she liked it. Unfortunately it did not "work" for me sorta like liver. Cheers Nick
Review great 3 course meal is a feast 4 1. Keep it up
Gundog, how do you boil the tins? Just straight in the water? And for how long? Thanks! I got one of the slightly smaller rations off eBay and ate almost everything at like 3am lol. For the printed foil just till it's all under water. I'll keep it in a rolling boil for about 5 or 6 minutes and viola'!
I'll give that a shot. Thanks!

Your the man !!
This is a good ration witha lot of Items.
I have never tried any kind of MRE, very interested in getting one and trying it
I'd recommend starting with something in your palate comfort zone. May need a little bit a seasoning and spices from your pantry but it all can be very tasty and fun to share with friends. Cheers!
Sausage is pork, beef and bacon, that's why it smells so good :)
Did you pull out the tea package that you tore off out of your tea cup?
I didn't notice till editing...Yikes!
that too shall pass
I kind of laughed a bit when Emmy made cider out of the jam but hey, if it's stupid but it works, it ain't stupid.
Just started one last night, different menu. Apple jam was leaking slightly, ate it anyway lol. These go better with beer!
I have the same one but its menu #7. Thiose are delicious and are pretty cheap too.
hey I always see your videos and I always wondered what do you do with so many leftovers? do you refrigerate them to eat later? Also, do you eat any other thing other than rations? just curious.. Have a nice day!!
Yep, get tossed in a bowl and eaten over the week. Cheers
Man I love Russian rations
What a feast!
It was Jane! But I admit I think the same thing when I watch your vids too!
thank you!
My Faves for 24 hr rations are Russian French and Italian.
Thanks for the Review
Now for the important Question..... When did Emmy drink the Apple sauce ? 😺 😸
Link please 😺 😸
th-cam.com/video/0lJyHuTVMNY/w-d-xo.html @13;59 I love her, she's such a good sport. Enjoy!
😺 😸 😹
She is a really Sport. Love that girl. I have seen her other videos but not that one.
I wonder if that pork fat could be fried somehow?
You were talking up the coffee so much I typed Russian instant coffee into Amazon. I noticed that the only thing that came up that even remotely looked like it was russian was a chicory coffee. I wonder if that's not why this one is so much better than most perhaps it's partly or all chicory.
I don't know but I may have one of these coffees laying about shoot me a message and maybe I can hook you up. Cheers
Buckwheat os The Worst to eat if you unable to pre heat any of those. coz it all turns into paper taste brick. And fat is bad to eat if you have nothing warm with it. But once youcheated buckweat, it changes everything. and fat goes well with it then
Looks like a cereal box to me!
Russia is like one of my favourite places for EVERYTHING, not just for rations :D
And I'm not even Russian...
не ври xD
How much is the current price for a non expired Russian 24h ration? Just an estimate would really, really help me!
Fifty bucks shipped? Sometimes cheaper. I've purchased them as little as $19 but it took like 3 months to get here. Better to spring for express mail.
I just bought one, the same as Gundogs, for $56 off of ebay with free UPS next day shipping. Mine expires 06/18.
In Russia, the cost of one IRP is 4.3 dollars. But you can buy cheaper in military units for $ 2.
damn this is making me hungry
Shouldn't the pellet go UNDER the metal foil, so that the flame is distributed through the eight little holes?
That's the beauty of it you can use it however you want I guess as long as you don't light the woods on fire. The way I demonstrated is the way shown on instructional manuals and such But I've even used it with the points down for stability reasons. Cheers
Hej Gundog!
Why do they include so much sugar in the rations? Would it be for trading with other soldiers maybe or mixing with water for instant energy?
Energy, mostly. If the heaviest thing you ever lift is a laptop you can get by with 1500 calories a day. At the field especially in cold climate with a gear that is half your weight you need 4-4,500 calories a day, and sugar has a lot. Hence the lot of sugar, meat and fat. I hope the answer is not 11 months too late. :)
And as John Travolta said in Michael: You can never have too much sugar! :D
Three spoons but no three clam shells, i.e. TP...What's Up With That......
Tell me you eat the rest later...Right???
Hee Hee Hee He doesn't know how to work the three seashells...great movie. Now why don't you go shovel it Chief Earl HAHA
Where do you get these at?
can you find a greek ration
I've had some people say they would look around no nothing has materialized yet. Someday I hope. Cheers!
I am pushing some strings with people in the army if i find one or two i will send them to you and stevemreinfo but is pretty hard to find rations in greece !! Thanks for replying (excuse me for my bad english) greetings from greece!
Cool let me know if there is anything I can do on my end. Cheers!
Where could I get one of these rations? Especially this one.... :)
Elmion Ebay
Thanks a million! :)
Ai horosho, blya!
i received this ratio today myself and as i eagerly opened it i was greeted by the most foul of stenches, unfortunately one of my mains containers became compromised and leaked all over the inner box and onto some of the other contents, my excitement has turned to worry as a few of the paper sachets have the stench attached to them so i hope the beverages arent ruined! I WILL UPDATE!
Yeah that can happen from time to time unfortunately. It's happened to me several times. Hope it turns out some of it salvageable.
The main problem with our rations is the lack of variety, IMHO. Three days top and you start wishing for something new.
That's the problem with EVERY countries rations. Be nice if we all rotated them around like I get to do with these reviews, keeps my morale up to do more!
Gundog, in Emmy's behalf lol love that girl but come on now, that girl eats dang bugs🤮 hey 🐊 I heard you girl
My cousin got me a Russian mre and some soviet era money from 1961
Cool
Bro, you should eat it with rice.... It will be very nice.
Do you speak Russian?
I've just done these and have asked a ton of questions about them that I just know what things are now. If these freakin politicians don't screw things up I'd love to go there someday and learn more. Hopefully soon. Cheers!
I wonder if that daily multiple vitamin is just a steroid
Da.
Baked fat! Holy shit!
A. Menchén It's a godsend considering our winters. Still, it's pretty gross.

how come no one who eats these Russian MREs ever add the Vegetable Ragu to one of the Beef Mains? that's 100% what i would've done with this MRE
No no...you should have way more views...on you're video's. ...and way more subbies....that.s why I shared you on my Facebook. ..you can see you're shared video at...Samsung Sally chadwick. ... peeeeeace ")
Your stove is upside down
Why does this look sooooo much better than an American MRE?
rAdiant Jet because it's real food...ours suck lol
WesB840M I just had my first Russian IRP and yes it is real quality food!! Our MREs are way to processed!!
rAdiant Jet yea I think russia perfected the ration pack I wish we would do the same I'd probably buy them. I always took my own food to the field in the army i.e. civilian type, mountain house...Freeze dried fruit etc.
You can call it officer chocolate
You should have way more subscribers hi from the UK. ..and it.s 10 thumbs up from me ,,,,!!,,,, ,,,,!!,,,, ,,,,!!,,,, ,,,,!!,,,, ,,,,!!,,,, Lin-Lee ♡♡ing you're channel
I was raised to be thankful for what I have, not what you "want". Thanks for all the support Lin-Lee!
Thank goodness the russian army dont serve these to there guys, but must say it looks nice.
It's probably just me, but I wish you'd stop just throwing the stuff when you're unboxing.
I know you can't damage them any more than they've already been damaged.
that's one weird looking knife.
It's designed for stabbing and slashing, not your average bushcraft knife eh? Cheers!
gundog4314 lol only in mudda russia.
Ахаха интересно смотреть как иностранец смотрит российский сух панк
ну и как русский сухпай?
Fat is in fact very healthy.
I agree especially for people with active lifestyles. Cheers
I have ever heard that when ancient hunter-gatherers killed an animal, they ate fat and internal organs first.
That is true but mainly to cool them or get them out of the body and cool them before the can start to deteriorate and spoil the meat. Which is why if you ever watch a hunting show they "dress" the deer or whatever right there or real soon after. Cheers
Idk how people eat straight up fat lol It's straight Gag City.
People eat it every single time they have nice steak, pork chop or bacon. I admit the one in this ration is a bit hardcore even for myself but when in Rome, Do as the Romans do. Cheers!
True, there's fat on all meat lol I'm just saying when it's ONLY fat, I can't handle it haha
Привет из россии)
Take pill turn Russian
bakon fat = Russian, Ukrain "Salo".

Иди учись и езжай на все 4 стороны, позорище.
Hell yeah, man! Used to eat bunch of exactly same rations couple months ago as my food at construction site i worked at. It costs me 320 rubles (about 5USD) for each directly from Rus army distributor. Not best considering i was unable to use any heating, but still it was very good choise for place distant from any electric and water support for full all day meals
