Wow, very interesting, thanks for sharing that Gundog! I didn't even know that the FSRs had been redesigned. I'm almost wondering if this was a very early example of the new ones. The white labels made a couple components almost look like prototypes. Interesting that they made such a major redesign of the packaging. I liked the old ones that looked very much like an MRE (dimension-wise) despite being 24 hours worth of nutrients. Obviously a lot of thought and R&D had to go into the redesign. It's also funny that I've always felt that XMRE's civvie 24HR rations were very different from the genuine ones--and now the genuine ones have a look that's closer to the civvie ones! Quite a few things in here I've never seen/tried before, like the spread/soup (very odd little thing there), the caffeinated pudding (never seen a prepared pudding in a U.S. ration instead of a powdered one you add water to) and I've never seen a fruit beverage powder drink in one of those contoured zip-top pouches--only cocoa and other hot beverages that take less water. Always felt it would be convenient for soldiers to have more beverage mixes in the contoured pouches. Looks like they agree--at least for a FSR!
just looking at the video.......maybe next time make soup out of the whole cheese potatoe and then add the corn nuts to it to make like a chowder type soup, maybe add some of the jerky.
Gundog, remember in a video that you would field strip your mres, when you were in the service long over due appreciations or that sir. Ever thought.about doing a video on that. Most people like me would just push it in a back pack. But for the die hard military people out there. Would be an interesting video for people who are curious. Always thank you sir for your videos. Cheers
I was one to not be shy and load up the snacks onto the troop transport manifold to heat them up. I'd also use them for barter other things I needed that someone else had as was willing to part ways with it for a warn snack.
gundog4314 The sniper scene from Hurt Locker keeps going through my head except this time they have cinnamon buns! Jokes aside, overall the FSR looks great and I love your reviews, keep at it!
Gundog tryout this 24hr ration, 1777 ration with FRESH beef or salt pork, FRESH bread, flour or cornmeal, and peas or beans 1 pound each. I would like two see a 3 part review and see you cook :)
The potato spread thing is an interesting option, but doesn't seem to function that well in either roll. I really hope the pizzas (which I would assume is made by Bridgeford) aren't as not good as their sandwiches. Other then these two components I think that the ration seems great, the sugar free beverage powder has definetly caught my attention as I can't stand most overly sweet powder drinks. Great review as always good sir!!!
+2dividedby3 I've seen a vid on the MRE pizza being eaten by troops in the field. They all seemed to like it, then again when you've been in the field to long what seems good compared to really tastes good gets subjective! haha!
Great review as always !! Interesting selection of food in this FSR . The herb chicken looked tasty. Shelf stable sandwich, not so much, LOL!! Peace, John.
Talking about regular MREs and First Strike Ration, How many menus are they? because there are menus for cold weather... so they are a lot. Regards from Chile.
There are 24 MRE menus and 9 FSR menus as of now. I had a great guy from Chile try and send me a ration from there but I think it got nabbed by customs. Getting stuff from South & Central America is tough. Someday. Cheers!
would love to try some if you ever get one you tryed before would you send it to a poor guy or anyone that happens to have any they need to/want to get rid of
if they just had to change the outer packaging, at least they left the inner bag as was, though now I'd use the outer for trash(raisin, jerky and corn nuts packs and whatever I started the day with). still not happy with the lack of coffee but I guess a troop could get creative with the shake and pudding maybe.
+Kevin Moore I know every time I went out to the field I took my own stuff. I'm sure that's much the same today. Especially coffee with the coffee drinkers.
These are designed to be eaten on the move or on a short break so you don't have to set up heating systems, in fact FSR's don't even have ration heaters. Cheers
kylelee1911 and i have to get fpur of them. I want to do a tryout with my friends. Getting italian rations was easy. I gave up on searching MREs. Maybe FSRs? If not, i think i'll get the russian EPR(IPR? Not sure how it's called.)
Yu should be able to find some good deals then. Try any pawn shop that deal with the military guys and you could score big. Soldiers will pawn anything and everything when car payment time comes around LOL
+Grant Glenndale They are tough to come by as they really aren't used. They are only at bases with special operations of light infantry too. I got mine from an old Army buddy during a reunion down at Bragg.
FSR tortillas sound like really bad idea. If they were readily stuffed with chicken fillet and something and you could squeeze salsa in from a pocket they'd be a brilliant idea!
Planning on doing my first ration this weekend, first time doing a ration video, and I am not sure wether to be scared or excited. I'm still debating on wether doing a vintage or a newer MRE to kick it off, any suggestions?
+tetsuya no yoroi I know they taste better in the sense their newer, but I've currently got 3 2004 MRE's, one 90's era MRE, and 2 still in date MRE's. I had another 90's I opened off camera and everything inside somehow held up to time, even the cheese spread in a miracle! I am hoping the corned beef hash is the same as that one is nowhere on TH-cam
+BrowningM60 I'd say film yourself doing an unboxing or of just some stuff you stick in a bag first. That way you can make sure your camera angles, sound and lighting are good. I did a bit of trial an error in my first few vids, my mistakes could help you out. Good luck, have fun and CHEERS!
+gundog4314 Thanks, it may be a little tricky to work with what I got currently, I'm working with a $400 camera with no tripod, what a fun match! I'll have to find one somewhere
My ears are getting weird. I thought your dogs barking after you tried the soup was the soup making you choke or retch. Great review. I may have to see if these rations hit Ebay soon.
I'm not sure about the main course in an FSR...the ration is meant to be quick and easy to eat...no prep...to provide calories to keep Joe running for 72 hours...The corn nuts look thirst provoking and hard to chew...
+gundog4314 nice review, but i don't get why most of the stuff in american mre's and fsr's is artificial, while in other countries rations they tend to use more natural stuff....maybe for preservation purposes? anyway i think it would be nice if you could spare a couple minutes to make a video about your passion for military rations and why you like them...it would be very interesting i think. if you want obviously
+Gabriele Ciciriello It's exactly for preservation purposes. There are reviews of people eating 25, 30 year old MREs and they are just fine. You couldn't do that with an Italian ration. The liquids and acids would eat through the cans destroying the other stuff in each box kind of like the old MCI or C-Rats the US used to use. As for the rations, I just find it an interesting hobby. Some of the other reviewers are really into the history, details and comparisons where I am just curious about how well, and what other countries give their peeps to eat. Cheers
This is just my opinion, but I think it for the serving of "fruits and vegetables" for a balanced diet. Sugar stuff was and is always an issue in the field. It gives you a burst of energy but when it wears off it can really effect alertness. That being said, when we did our timed speed marches everyone ate like 3 or 4 snickers bars right before we moved out and carried about a dozen sugar packets in a pocket for the boost. It also made drinking lukewarm canteen water more pleasant! Cheers Les
davebo riddle there is a review of one on TH-cam but he says in the description that it is a parody vid. The guy claimed there isn't one but I am not sure if that is true.
I always traded those dairyshake powders if I could. Who wants to have a sugar crash in the field? 🤢 The rest of the meal seems good, though. Put some corn nuggets, cheesy bacon spread and chicken in that tortilla, yum yum. ✅
Two dogs helped themselves to a sandwich under my truck seat...the little one opened it...the big one ate it...i only lost one bridgeferd sammitch...oh well...they didn't get into all the mre's...whew!
I don't know why they bother with the nutrition fact card, what grunt is going to read the damn thing? also you don't have a stove or cig. ration anymore, why matches? plus the toilet paper in these rations, to me there's not enough to blow your nose? most guys I know that are in say they carry a roll!
Wow, very interesting, thanks for sharing that Gundog! I didn't even know that the FSRs had been redesigned. I'm almost wondering if this was a very early example of the new ones. Great video, & it was nice to hear some final thoughts & the comparison at the end.
Literally looks like you went to the field and collected various animal scat samples.
😂 it kinda does
I understand wanting to conserve tray space, but I think most people would like to see the quantity of each item.
Nice review Gundog ! Really interesting. I've seen reviews of older FRS's and it seems to be richer and more tasty than the older ones.
just looking at the video.......maybe next time make soup out of the whole cheese potatoe and then add the corn nuts to it to make like a chowder type soup, maybe add some of the jerky.
Very nice review. That "italian style sandwich" is weird, we don't have anything similar to that stuff here in Italy. Cheers!
+Il Barone Rozzo I know what you mean, I think it's loosely based on the type of meat used in the sandwich. But oh well. Cheers!
Here in the US, we have many "italian style" foods that bore no resemblance to the food I had in italy.
Where did you get your FSR from? Been looking to try one myself.
Cheers
Sure that would be a good project.
I was one to not be shy and load up the snacks onto the troop transport manifold to heat them up. I'd also use them for barter other things I needed that someone else had as was willing to part ways with it for a warn snack.
Big meal! I've never had an FSR I'd like to get a few. Thanks for the great video
Its actually a 1 for 24 hours ration where as MREs are a 3 for 24 hours ration
This looks like the tastiest ration I've seen so far. I need to find some of these in date so we can take them on the road.
making tortillas under heavy fire... gotta love it
+Masaharu Morimoto Well, it's not like you are going to open up the Italian Style Sandwich either when the bullets are flying.
gundog4314 The sniper scene from Hurt Locker keeps going through my head except this time they have cinnamon buns! Jokes aside, overall the FSR looks great and I love your reviews, keep at it!
Looks like a really good MRE Gundog! :)
Hiii!! I am 12 years old and I love your videos!!!
+Alaina Elayda Cheers Alaina!
gundog4314 Do you know (Steve1987 MREinfo) in real life?
oG x Terminator believe it is Steve 1989.
Think they had a convention and maybe they met there. Many MRE reviewers went.
C Johnston srry
Gundog tryout this 24hr ration, 1777 ration with FRESH beef or salt pork, FRESH bread, flour or cornmeal, and peas or beans 1 pound each. I would like two see a 3 part review and see you cook :)
would it really be so difficult for them to flute the bottom of those beverage bags so it could stand on its own?
The first strike bar looks perfect as it is.
Great Video Sir! Any chance you could get one of these to emmymadeinjapan? Would love to see her response to the shelf stable sandwiches:)
+Daniel Taylor I've got something else special for her that I think she'll like. Cheers
Awesome! Thank you.
Whatever happened to the Zapple sauce I used to see with these things?
Great review as always Gundog!
Scottish short bread biscuits, what you do you think?
The potato spread thing is an interesting option, but doesn't seem to function that well in either roll. great deal for these on ebay right now just bought menu 5
Are the pizza MREs available to the public?
Great review, im sure you had to do what you could to warm things up :)
Do they not put coffee in any of they fsr's
Where can you buy fsr's?
Great review as always !! Interesting selection of food in this FSR . The herb chicken looked tasty. Shelf stable sandwich, not so much, LOL!! Peace, John.

Can someone explain how or why the date codes work like this why not just put the date on it,
great review, I really enjoyed this one!
if they just had to change the outer packaging, at least they left the inner bag as was, though now I'd use the outer for trash(raisin, jerky and corn nuts packs and whatever I started the day with). still not happy with the lack of coffee but I guess a troop could get creative with the shake and pudding maybe.

Great review as always =)
Be careful with all that white powder layin around! Lol. Where can I find the newer FSR.. eBay?
+stickyfingaz745 If that was a Columbian MRE that might have been the end of the vid LOL. I got these down in Bragg.
+gundog4314 do you know where I can get one of these. I have a maxpedition jumbo versipack in black I would trade for a few of them.
Jeff b believe most Mre for sale on Amazon if they deliver to ya. Could try eBay.
I just bought a 2019 FSR and should be receiving it tomorrow. And they are fairly cheap on Ebay. I only paid right around 31, including shipping
Great review. Why could I not leave a thumbs up?
+Estabanwatersaz It works, once you hit the thumbs up thingy it turns blue. Cheers
Looks like You got some goodies in that #9. Trade on the Go.
Aren't you supposed to boil the sandwich? ( in the bag)?
These are designed to be eaten on the move or on a short break so you don't have to set up heating systems, in fact FSR's don't even have ration heaters. Cheers
where can i get one of these?
I got one on ebay for 23 bucks yesterday
kylelee1911 hmm nice. I guess the shipping to italy will cost 193728372782828392728372818$
+Boeing “Stratofortress” B52 sounds about right I feel the pain I have been searching for a German epa under 100
kylelee1911 and i have to get fpur of them. I want to do a tryout with my friends. Getting italian rations was easy. I gave up on searching MREs. Maybe FSRs? If not, i think i'll get the russian EPR(IPR? Not sure how it's called.)
Are these usually priced around $60 or more? They're kindve hard to find but every one I've came across on ebay seem expensive.
kind of* lol
+ImWutzPopular I got these from Ft. Bragg. I know they are hard to get as no one really uses them.
+gundog4314 Ft. Bragg NC? I live only a few mins from there!
Yu should be able to find some good deals then. Try any pawn shop that deal with the military guys and you could score big. Soldiers will pawn anything and everything when car payment time comes around LOL
OK, so besides paying $30 a meal (3 meals for $90) on ebay, where can one purchase a full FSR at?
+Grant Glenndale They are tough to come by as they really aren't used. They are only at bases with special operations of light infantry too. I got mine from an old Army buddy during a reunion down at Bragg.
How many packs of those matches do you have?
+Kristina bradley Honestly I don't know I have cases of unopened stuff with them too!
FSR tortillas sound like really bad idea. If they were readily stuffed with chicken fillet and something and you could squeeze salsa in from a pocket they'd be a brilliant idea!
+TheLittlestMig I tend to agree, I am not a super fan of the tortillas unless it was prewraped in say a burrito or the like Cheers
gundog4314 they sell something similar at the grocery called a rev bar. Has bread and protein. Tried but not fond.
how much did you end up finishing? that a ton of stuff for one sitting.
+janenba352 Most everything gets eaten over the course of the week in moderation. Cheers
i am eating while watching someone eating... strange
Planning on doing my first ration this weekend, first time doing a ration video, and I am not sure wether to be scared or excited. I'm still debating on wether doing a vintage or a newer MRE to kick it off, any suggestions?
+BrowningM60 newer MREs tend to taste better, and have slightly clearer flavours. I say go for the new ones
BrowningM60 i'd do the 2004 one, as its still somewhat relevant, and would be more likely to show up in searches, which is important for new channels

+repetey That was the demon dogs defending the house from unforseen bad guys. Cheers
repetey Amazon sells us rations as well.
put the main meal pack on top ur head under ur hat or helmet-most of ur heat loss is thru ur head-that should warm up the packet nicely
Where can I get these
Ebay has them for about 20 bucks check em out.
gundog4314 I know a website where you can get either just one or an entire case! Just have your currency converter ready ( it's in Canadian dollars )
How the hell is a taco something you assemble and eat on the move?
I often wondered the same about the tuna that's in these things. Cheers
Damn all that stuff looks damn good
like kiwi dude excellent video's subscribed! :)
+Gareth Bertram Thanks! He's a great mate. Cheers!
Just got a whole case from this same set(2015). What does everyone think, still safe to eat in 2020??
Should be fine. Always trust the sniff test though! If your brain or your senses say, Nah, don't listen to your stomach HAHA
gundog4314 haha right on,Thanks man
So there are no likes or dislikes on this video what!?.!
Waaaay back in the day (years) I didn't really find it that important. You guys seem to like them so I added them to my more recent reviews.
Nice!
that's a nice ration
I'm not sure about the main course in an FSR...the ration is meant to be quick and easy to eat...no prep...to provide calories to keep Joe running for 72 hours...The corn nuts look thirst provoking and hard to chew...
this MRE seems to be a 24hr ration.
+sevenpointsixtwo Yes sir, right there in the description box. Cheers
A challenge for you MRE guys.... Can you heat up spam in an FRH? I mean wrapped in something.
+Myra Madd Sure, you can heat up pretty much anything in a FRH
gundog4314 yes and the commercial ones really claim you can cook food I believe. Right?? I believe I remember kiwi dude saying that.
First ive seen with no tea😱 NO TEA👎 tea is lifeeeee😍
Why a drug reference
+gundog4314 nice review, but i don't get why most of the stuff in american mre's and fsr's is artificial, while in other countries rations they tend to use more natural stuff....maybe for preservation purposes?

gundog4314 outstanding answer as always! ;) yeah i guessed it was for preservation
Why raisons?, butter scotch and high value protein sweets, (candy), on the move., just my take my man, Gundog. with regards ..Les.
This is just my opinion, but I think it for the serving of "fruits and vegetables" for a balanced diet. Sugar stuff was and is always an issue in the field. Can You a North Korean Military MREs Or IRAs +gundog4314
davebo riddle there is a review of one on TH-cam but he says in the description that it is a parody vid. The guy claimed there isn't one but I am not sure if that is true.
One of the more appealing MRE's I've seen. Except for that block of nutty poo (as if they put their branding on that...)
Нда...куда же вы с таким питанием?..
I always traded those dairyshake powders if I could. Who wants to have a sugar crash in the field? 🤢 The rest of the meal seems good, though. Put some corn nuggets, cheesy bacon spread and chicken in that tortilla, yum yum. ✅
Falta el bicarbonato
Two dogs helped themselves to a sandwich under my truck seat...the little one opened it...the big one ate it...i only lost one bridgeferd sammitch...oh well...they didn't get into all the mre's...whew!
lot of bread full of soya
man these are awesome, want one so bad, just started doing some more mre videos, check it out. have a good day boos
I don't know why they bother with the nutrition fact card, what grunt is going to read the damn thing? also you don't have a stove or cig. ration anymore, why matches? plus the toilet paper in these rations, to me there's not enough to blow your nose? most guys I know that are in say they carry a roll!
+keith moore I would think the only reason to waste the money for them is it's in the contract between the government and the vendor..
Soup sandwich
weird looking sandwich
I can't stand those corn nuggets
Uhhhgggg why in the word they keep putting raisins in MRE's?? Gross.....
+John Cross Nutrition.....
MRE = Meal Rejected by Ethiopians😀😀
I can't stand those corn nuggets
