Not that you need us to affim your relationship, but between the approachable awesomeness of Phily's achievements and the relatable beginner runner experience on your end, you two are an incredible package. It's been cool to see your progress alongside mine. (This was my first year back to running, as well, having not run in the over two decades since high school!)
You know Daniel, if you say you were pretty good at swimming, and now you’re running, all you need to get into is biking to call yourself a triathlete! It would seriously be cool for Phily to cheer you on a half Ironman! I’m serious! In the words of Chancellor Palpatine, “DO IT!”
Good collection of thoughts. One big one for me is that I sleep much better when I’m running. Don’t know if you get that one too, but it’s my favorite benefit.
You've reminded me of what was probably the only experience I've ever had of the runner's high - a group of us (as 18-19 year olds) jogged a sponsored walk and the combination of subverting the intent (it was a walk, darn it!), being in company that spurred you on and whatever self-generated chemicals were in play was, in distant hindsight, amazing.
Like I mentioned on Phily’s another time, these can serve as a form of journal-a chance to retrospectively appreciate where you’ve been and where you’re going. Very cool platform for that! Congrats and onwards!
✌I have been running since december 2022 and part of me somehow still feels like a beginner (this may be the part of me that is impatient and doesn`t get enoough) but another part of me feels pretty unstoppable, and that`s the part of me that reminds me of your thought, that can´t wait to see how my running will develop. i only came across your videos a few days ago and have been watching many of them one after the other since then. i really like them and i`m looking forward to many more🏃♀💖
Running races motivates me to train/run. Mind you, I am over 60, a very competitive age group in its own right, so although on very, very, small races I am still going for top places overall, it is me who I am racing against. All the preparation, all the sweat, all the suffering, sometimes, inspires good racing, and, in turn, good racing inspires training/running. I agree with you on all the benefits of running, I would add one on the physical side, and that is 'functional strength,' to me , its the ability to perform every day physical work in some fashion similar to when I was much younger.
Omg yes to all of this!! This week, for the first time in my life, I did shakeout runs at the end of each travel day. After each one I just felt better in all ways. Who is this person? Lol
I’m 41 and have been running for a few years and I’ve been playing football with some of the dads from school over the last year and every day when I’m playing football I spend the day stressing about if I’ll play well and end up giving myself a stomach ache on every game day. But running on the other hand as it’s just for me and I don’t let anyone down if I’m a bit slow means I enjoy it more. I totally get what you mean about your mental health improving from running too.
Totally agree with ‘it never gets easier’ I say that to myself every time I go out and then I remind myself how much further/faster I’m going and smile to myself. Running huh, gotta love it.
Nov 28th is my running restart date! I ran every day of the last year and lost 80 lbs. I tried to start in late May but I kept getting injured bc I, too, was trying too hard. My first 2 mile easy pace last year was 12:54 pace and today I ran the same route at 9:30 easy pace. Then I went back and ran it hard at 8:00 pace just bc I can!
Absolutely love to see this! I've recently got back into running after a decade away doing other sports, and suffering multiple injuries. You're inspiring me to keep going! ❤
Yes Daniel it is always the second run back after time off that is the hardest. I agree that running is never easy and i have been running for over 50 years (yikes!!!!), but it really makes me feel so much better.........when I am done for the day! 😀
Also I have a question for Philly. I play football and I want to get better at running but I struggle to get enough miles in with football and fear of injury through running might keep me out of football. ⚽️ I train Tues, Thurs & normally have games on Sat 😴 I always take a rest day Friday and Sunday before and after games to feel refreshed. 🏃🏻♂️When I am in a good flow of things and I am going well I run about 20k (12.5 miles) per week. Plus training. Long Run would be on Monday then the run 2 more days between Tues & Thurs. 🤷🏻♂️ Is what I am doing benefiting me or what would you suggest so I can improve at running but yet still be on my A game to compete in training and games. I find juggling everything can be difficult.
Capped off the end of my second year of running with some big positives... 1) 6 months of coaching from Phily and a long-term plan in place to reach running goals; 2) an Ultra marathon under my belt; 3) 43:51 10k and 21:37 5k PBs from the same race! On the less positive side I ended the year injured but coach made up for the missed running with some evil bike sessions. Still a very long 5 1/2 weeks! I still see myself as a beginner. Maybe not an absolute fresher, but sill a novice with a lot to learn! A couple of your points really resonated - the fact that it doesn't get easier is something my PT says each time the weights go up... the goal post move. The other one is that race-day mojo... I've done some training sessions that had me wondering how I hit my 10k PB!
Love the message at 06:09, spot on , I am on my 4th year of running (and yes, still a beginner just not nieve enough to think I am not, consistancy is the key for solid running , regardless of level. btw . Good vlog , thanks for posting
Congratulations on your fitness and new found love of running I’ve been running for 34 years still have bad training days and nervous when lining up for the race start I attribute this to the importance of what running means to me and racing well a tribute to all those who have sacrificed for me Guiding principle for my approach to running no matter how the day goes good, bad, or indifferent my passion never wanes and I’ll be back the next day doing what I love
I didn't realise it had been a whole year, that's brilliant! The one thing I find pretty unique with running is generally speaking everyone else wants you to do well. Good luck for your 2nd year of running, hopefully it produces some great TH-cam content! 😉
The first 3 miles are always tough.... then when your heart rate has calmed down and you have found a breathing pattern you can stick to and those are the days I can stick to a 8/12/16 miles etc etc - just don't head off fast
Congrats bro! You're like a seasoned vet to me. I've been going 5-6 months... what I've recently found hard is I sort of stopped improving :( ... the first 3 months I could structure my runs much better, but the last 3 months I also play football. I find it much harder to balance running around a match day and a midweek football training session. It means I can only get 1 or 2 runs in a week to make sure my legs are ok for matchday. Any advice for runners + sport out there?
Have you considered cross training with something like swimming or cycling? Swimming is particularly good for cardio imprpvements while being easy on the legs.
"Who am I? What have I become" is a question I ask myself every week when heading out early hours on a Saturday morning for my long run... When did I become this person?? Why am I not in bed?? Why am I so happy about this self inflicted torture? 😂
Would disagree on the it doesnt get easier part. For a race effort or hard workout yes, itll be just as hard youll just be going faster than years past but like an easy or steady type run is definitely easier now than when i started running
It doesn't get easier to keep getting fitter. That's true. But you get faster. And going faster is much more fun than going slow. And when something is more fun you want to do more of it. So in a way it does get easier.
"WHO AM I?!?" Yep, that's a familiar question I've been asking myself often, this year. I don't have an answer (even for myself. 🤷♀️) All I know is, I don't want to go back. Enjoy the journey - one foot in front of the other, onwards and upwards. 👍
Maybe I'm misremembering, but Phily made you try a 400m in a video at least a year or more back, yes? And 400m is kind of a prank on non-runners, because you think you can go all out and just blast through it at max effort, but it's more than long enough to completely deplete you and make you feel like you're dying :) now that you know more about running you should try it again!
My Coros that i have only had a few months and been injured and coming back for last month of that thinks i can do a 3 hr 20 Marathon, i am 50 years old and did my 1st last year at 3hr 54 and think maybe i can go slightly quicker but the idea of trying to take well over a minute a mile off seems dangerous to me and i think would likely injure me .I have no idea how they get these figures!

The beauty of fitness. That 30 minute barrier. Things change after that. Fitness is for everyone keep progressing in your journey.
You should do Trail running! We can walk, have snacks in the aid stations and run out there in nature 😄. Join the Dark side, we have cookies!! 😆
😂😂 maybe… you make a very convincing argument
Good collection of thoughts. One big one for me is that I sleep much better when I’m running. Don’t know if you get that one too, but it’s my favorite benefit.
YES! Especially after the really tough days
Completely agree with the mental health aspects. Has done me a world of good.
Hands down the best part of running!!
You've reminded me of what was probably the only experience I've ever had of the runner's high - a group of us (as 18-19 year olds) jogged a sponsored walk and the combination of subverting the intent (it was a walk, darn it!), being in company that spurred you on and whatever self-generated chemicals were in play was, in distant hindsight, amazing.
dude...at 1st I HATED the idea of running too; and I resisted for the longest...now I am doing 50 - 70 miles a week...talk about a convert
Damn!! I’ll be there one day! 😂
Like I mentioned on Phily’s another time, these can serve as a form of journal-a chance to retrospectively appreciate where you’ve been and where you’re going. Very cool platform for that! Congrats and onwards!

I run my 25th Parkrun on Saturday but Daniel, you’re a much more experienced runner than I. Don’t be so humble, you’re crushing it!
Omg yes to all of this!! This week, for the first time in my life, I did shakeout runs at the end of each travel day. After each one I just felt better in all ways. Who is this person? Lol
I like your candid enthusiasm ! Always leaves me in a good mood 😊
Thank you 🥰

Go Daniel! Love the running journey. First Comment too!

And I need to get a PT something I really want to work on next year is building some muscle!!

Soo true! The vast majority of the running world is so positive

We started abt the same time , made exactly the same mistakes and are seemingly at the same fitness level. Only difference - the pro runner;)
On the 1st Jan i will have been running 3 years, just about accepting i am not now a beginner!
Great video, loved hearing your thoughts, and thanks for that clip 👻 🎃💕
Thank you!
So great to see your improvement over the last year or so. Have the runs helped to reduce your migraines?
Yes they days I exercise my headaches tends to be better 😊 although I have to admit so hard sessions can make it worse but that is rare!
"Who am I? What have I become" is a question I ask myself every week when heading out early hours on a Saturday morning for my long run... When did I become this person?? Why am I not in bed?? Why am I so happy about this self inflicted torture? 😂
I’m just so desensitised living with a pro 😂 the running life has slowing taken a hold of me and I didn’t see it coming 😂
If it was easy, everyone would be doing it danny boi
Truth

😂 yea I have been asking that question a lot aswell
Oh Daniel!!! stop releasing vids in working hours, I have no choice but to watch them, when i should be working!!!!😂🤣
😂 this made me laugh out loud!
@@DanielMoves I was watching your video on my "lunch" break. Ok OK I wasn't but i was 😉
If any of my work colleagues see this, I decided i was on Lunch!
Maybe I'm misremembering, but Phily made you try a 400m in a video at least a year or more back, yes? Runner or non runner ive always struggled to understand how people can sprint 200m, how on earth would anyone think they can sprint for 400m?? 😂😂
Now then, young Daniel - why does my Garmin say I can run a 5K in 24 minutes, but I can’t break 25? 😅
I believe in you!
Fortunately you are not yet up to 10k followers otherwise you'd have a lot of training to do! ;-)
