I'll look forward to following your training over the next 5 months - if you are doing 7 miles on your long run already, then doing 13 on race day is absolutely within your capabilities!
Those session times are a great improvement. I stupidly went out yesterday and tried some 40 sec intervals with 1:30 rest in between. I totally went out far too fast, basically sprinted them and had to stop after the third one! Hit 3:38min/km pace and I just couldn't sustain it. Think I need to slow down a bit haha. Great effort and nice to see you improving each week!
The Mistletoe Half Marathon in Winston Salem, North Carolina USA?!?!?! It is definitely worth the trip. I will be happy to pace you to your goal. But about that goal… there’s about 1,000’ of gain/loss so we should take that into account. The brilliant thing about that is that nobody can fairly criticize your time, which is perfect for your first time at a new distance. And your second half marathon is almost certain to result in a PB which is good for morale :)
I see that against all odds and reason, I was mistaken about your choice. Regardless, good luck with the race! And remember that the first time at a new distance is best approached as something between an experiment and an adventure! Learn all you can and try stuff that feels slightly risky (if not reckless). Above all have fun and savor what you have built in your training :)
i thought you might have gone for the familiarity of the stockport trail HM but wilmslow was a close second. good choice, see you there. save a little for the kicker at the end.
I absolutely love a good progressive finish long run. I usually try and do the 4th to last-second to last miles at MP and the last mile as a cool down. So like a 10 mile would be 1 WU, 2-6 at zone 1 ez, 7,8,9 @ MP and 10 CD
We considered that one for my wife's first Half and a consolation half for me after having to miss MCR Half recently - foot injury, boo! Ended up going with a foreign half - Lisbon a couple of weeks before! If you really enjoy the training and race distance check out the "superhalfs" series... good excuses to go film in lots of exotic locations, and Cardiff. Looking forward to seeing how the training progresses!
I was wondering if you might do Wilmslow Half, I'm very familiar with the course, as it's actually my PB course, and it's a really lovely one! I'm loving following your journey on here, its inspiring to see. Also a very happy birthday to you sir! Hope you had a great day 🥳🥳
Happy birthday! 🎉 Very sensible reasons for choosing your half marathon. 👍 Enjoy your training - even in the rain. I tend to reschedule/swap with a rest day if it's so much as drizzling outside, but then I don't live with my coach! 😆
Maybe you should check the altitude profile of the 3min splits and the diff between the last and actual one is covered there. You may run last time quicker 3min interval because of light downhill or opposite this time… just compare the route ;)
Same date that I'm going to be running my next half marathon (my 2nd one...but first time im really training for one.first one was a nightmare...lots of vert and walking!)! Looking forward to your training! Will be curious to see how we compare. Think we are about the same pace! Training starts in November or early December...i think!
DISAPPOINTED!!! With that timeframe, I demand you change your HM choise to be the CPH Half (The CPH Half 2024 is held on Sunday, September 15 - Tickets will open by December 1'st.) ! Bring Phily along, as she tends to bring sunshine 😎🌞 You know you want to!!! 😉 Oh btw, happy birthday 🎂
If it's raining .... so what (you are water proof).... do you leak around the house after a shower NO.... so you don't leak..... If it rains - embrace..... and 90% of runners stay at home.... enjoy the peace and quiet and get those miles in - easy pace just enjoy the silence !!!
I'll look forward to following your training over the next 5 months - if you are doing 7 miles on your long run already, then doing 13 on race day is absolutely within your capabilities!
Thanks you for the support and yes fingers crossed 13miles is not so daunting in a few months time
Being a newer runner, super awesome following someone newer on their journey. Which goes great with Philly’s tips. Great work.
Thank you!

Wilmslow half is one of my running club's championship regulars! It's a great course, with a bit of luck I'll be able to see you/cheer on
Ahhh that is good to hear, and I’ll take all the encouragement I can get 😂

Good luck on your half marathon! Am sure you'll do great. When I did my first half marathon 10 years ago I didn't worry about time
i thought you might have gone for the familiarity of the stockport trail HM but wilmslow was a close second. good choice, see you there. save a little for the kicker at the end.
Good luck with it Danny boi, keep working hard,

Lots of good things about the half I hear! And thank you for the bday wishes! 🥳
When you said north, I guessed the Inverness half marathon. Good luck! I think you will enjoy running a half marathon.
Happy birthday! 🎉
Very sensible reasons for choosing your half marathon. 👍 Enjoy your training - even in the rain. I tend to reschedule/swap with a rest day if it's so much as drizzling outside, but then I don't live with my coach! 😆
Enjoy the process without any pressure!
Okay! Already putting it out there that you’ll run a marathon. Right on!!
I think it might happen 😂
Maybe you should check the altitude profile of the 3min splits and the diff between the last and actual one is covered there. You may run last time quicker 3min interval because of light downhill or opposite this time… just compare the route ;)
That’s a good shout! I will do that 😂
Good luck with the Half. Do you have a public Strava to follow your progress?

I signed up for the Leeds Half Marathon in May
I guess the Cambridge half marathon! It's the race I'm working towards for the beginning of next year 😁
Finally.😊Been waiting for this…Phily be on the camera then?
Great vlog, excited for the half! Could you include your pre-run warmup? Maybe your S&C? You ARE doing S&C?
Yes something I can add to a future video 😊
Your first half marathon will be around the same time I will run my first half marathon! Funny that we’re on the same journey at the moment!
Good luck on your first marathon 😊
Pretty excited for your upcoming theatre remake of Pirates of the Caribbean ;)
Should have done Liverpool a week earlier and a much cooler course. Only has one hill in it
I think you are going to run the Farnborough Half Marathon (I know Philly has run it before) 😛
Bit too hilly for me 😉
Their tag line is literally Chilly not hilly 😛@@DanielMoves
Also belated Happy Birthday
London Landmarks Half?
The rate you’re going with subs and increments for challenges Phileas Fogg had better watch his back…
*insert witty Phily/Phileas pun here*
Eyyyy, me and the wife are doing Wilmslow half! Would love to meet you and say hello and thanks for the class content
Absolutely come say hi!
@@DanielMoves you could go the whole hog and organise a shakeout run the day before like a proper TH-camr! 😝✌️
Belated happy b-day!
Thank you 🥳
Comment for Algo. Will wait for confirmation wrt actually doing it :).
DISAPPOINTED!!!

😉
Oh btw, happy birthday 🎂
I don’t know any half marathons in the UK so I can’t guess unfortunately.
Thanks for commenting anyway 😂😉
I’m guessing Manchester half marathon
You should have chosen Houston Half!
Run at the same time as Phily 😂 there’d be no YT video
@@DanielMoves I figured as much. We’ll have to wait for your international running debut 😉
Grow your hair for winter?!
But short hair is just sooo easy 😂
@@DanielMoves But being cold sucks! 😂 I can imagine you’d suit longer hair too
GNR or Manchester Half?!
11:08 😂
Also hats dont suit ne either
Glad I’m not the only one 😂
